Let’s Discuss: The Supernatural S9(?) Happiness Thread
Comic Con is behind us, the Supernatural season nine spoilers teasers have been shared, the dust has settle a bit and the speculation has begun!
Just like prior seasons after Comic Con, some fans are just so damned happy over everything they heard they’re ready to burst! Don’t burst, share! This thread is for you. What exactly made you happiest? Yes, just the mere fact that the show is back in action and the boys look mighty fine works. No holding back! We’re here to share.
Since this is a Let’s Discuss we’ll be light on the moderation, but I can’t imagine I’d have to step in because of too much happiness. Just respect other posters (don’t jump on someone who isn’t happy enough), no Sam vs. Dean (I’m happy because Sam sucks and Dean is perfect in every way), and no bashing characters. Just share the joy.
For those of you really, bitter, unhappy folks, we have you covered as well. Just go to the Bitterness Thread:
Okay, let’s discuss!
I’m super excited about this coming season. THRILLED to hear that Charlie will be back, and totally loved what Felicia said at the Con- how the show needs a “teflon vagina.” So true, and so glad that she was the one to say it. Sad that no one mentioned Garth at SDCC, but tempered by the fact that DJ Qualls was THERE, and a great pic of him looking really tiny in the grips of a Padahug at the WB Party gave me some hope. I was surprised to see Jason Mamoa there- dare we hope for a guest appearance? Double wish for a guest appearance by Zach Levi, his Nerd Machine gets more awesome every year.
Word of a “secret” gives me pause, but I’m really trying hard not to pre-judge it. The interviews with Sheppard and Padalecki give hope that they are not rehashing old conflicts. Jared’s interview in particular was so filled with enthusiasm for all kinds of great new stuff that he was dying to talk about, but couldn’t. I can’t help but smile and be excited by that.
LOVE what Singer said about Crowley being the Winchester’s own “Hannibal Lector”, all locked up in their dungeon, at least for a while. That’s a fun dynamic, and I think there will still be a lot to be revealed between Sam and Crowley. I am excited to hear that the latest bone in Sam’s craw is continuing to find ways to cure demons. At least he has a goal, he’s best when he has a goal.
One thing that does really bother me, but hopefully I’m wrong about it, so maybe Alice can correct me? But it seems that despite the many mentions of Crowley wanting to be King of Hell again, not a SINGLE interviewer asked about Abaddon. You know, the OTHER being that also wants to be King of Hell? Did I miss it, or was she completely overlooked? That would be very disappointing.
Actually, Abaddon did come up I think in the panel and a couple of times in the press room (not my interviews) but the question wasn’t heavily asked because the TV Guide interview for the Comic Con Edition that came out that week gave the answer. There’s no clear word on whether Abaddon will be back. They only said she “could” come back. It won’t be played by Alaina Huffman, we know that. Crowley is definitely going to be facing opposition in Hell, but they wouldn’t say who.

I am VERY excited for Season 9! This is pure speculation on my part but I think the secret is that Sam was about to die because his demon blood had been purified out of him and Dean injects him with Crowley’s blood to save his life. This would make for a VERY interesting dynamic between them and interesting growth for both of them (let him die human/I’ve been impure my whole life). I love that Bobby will be back but hope with a new dynamic – Metatron is lonely up there and finds Bobby, Bobby realizes what he did and has a heavenly mission! And Dean. He is the general and his strategy talents will be sorely needed in this new world! And Cas. They teased the silly parts of being human but we know the skills and talents of these actors. I sense some real angst just over the horizon. I think there is more than enough story line to go around. I shall be squeeing non-stop until October!
Happy because the guys seemed thrilled to be back and it’s always a good sign when the stars of the show still seem to love to go to work and play these same guys for the 9th year in a row.
LOVE that we’ll see Bobby again. Even if it only turns out it’s for one ep or whatever…Jim Beaver is the coolest dude on the planet and Bobby is just awesome.
Charlie! YAY! Love her non-afraid-to-be-geeky self and her little sister relationship with the boys. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for her this year.
Jared is so psyched about what heals him…he’s contagious and has got me psyched too. So many theories out there, I can’t help but wonder will anyone guess it? Or will we all be completely surprised. Jared thinks we’ll like it, so, I’ll put my trust in his hands.
And then the fact that so much of this crap seems like it’s gonna fall on Dean’s shoulders, esp during the first part of the year…if anyone can handle the weight of he world on his shoulders, it’s him. Dude must have the strongest shoulders in the history of the world.
I was worried heading towards the end of S8 that they would kill or humanize Crowley completely and that we’d be left without one of SPN’s greatest characters…but now that they didn’t and that Crowley will be in his limbo land in the Bunker’s dungeon….ha! Ye-ah!
Honestly, I can’t think of one spoiler type thing that has me concerned or upset. I think the show’s in good hands with a crew and cast that still get excited about bringing the stories to life…that in itself makes me happy for S9.
Oh, one more thing I’m psyched about for S9…I’ll be going to my very first SPN con in May 2014 in DC. WOOHOO!
Okay, the only thing that makes me upset? The fact that mid October is still so far away…sigh.
I’m thrilled that the show still makes me excited for the new season after 8 years. I’m glad Dean is going to get some girl action this year. Hope it’s not a monster. I’m thinking along the same lines as Teresa (3) about the demon blood, but that seems too easy. Besides wouldn’t Crowley rat Dean out? Love that Cas will be back more, love that we’ll see Charlie and hopefully Garth. Can’t wait! Can’t wait!
i’m super excited as well. jared’s joy and excitement during his interview was totally contagious..i was excited for him and the rest of us.
i don’t think sam will be healed by any blood. jared gave me the impression that they’re going to do something they haven’t done yet. blood is old news. tbesides, the only way dean can get blood into sam is if sam were unconscious. dean can’t really disguise demon or angel blood. sam would know something is in his drink. he’s drank demon blood before so i would think he could recognize it.
i don’t think show will be going the blood route to fix sam. i think dean will go a different route, albeit a shady route. i could’ve sworn they said that the way in which sam is healed is based on lore so it will make sense, you could double check me on that . personally, i think sam will be healed by someone/something show hasn’t dealt with yet. .
i keep going back to last season and how they dealt with witches. firstly crowley has made it known that his mother is a witch. show also added to/amended witch history from show. when we first came in contact with witches, they got their powers from demons. then we had the 900 yr old he witch. now i was always under the impression that he was born a witch. then we got the witches from shut up dr. phil. then in s8, there were a variety of witches who seemed to congregate at a special club. witches could put thoughts in people’s heads. spells have become quite powerful, as crowley demonstrated killing tommy, sarah and almost jody mills. show doesn’t seem to have specific canon for witches. they seem to have witches adapt to the story they are telling.
i can’t help but wonder if all that witch stuff last season wasn’t just random storytelling for that specific eppy…i wonder if maybe a witch will play a role this season….maybe dean goes to a warlock for help in healing sam.maybe sam is healed by a spell.
did jensen indicate that dean didn’t think things through and it was more of a bandaid. so maybe dean goes to a powerful warlock/witch he finds while scouring through the mol bunker. this being uses a spell to heal sam. it could be possible that the spell in some way changes sam.
i keep leaning towards the changes in sam being “supernatural”, that sam will be able to do things he’s never been able to do before. i’m not saying they’ll make him a non human, just a human who has certain abilities.
again, it’s probably not the case, i just think this kind of a scenario is more of a possibility than dealing with the blood issue especially given that that’s old stuff and Jared seemed to indicate this was all something new.
i’m excited no matter what they decide. i’m really excited that the boys are genuinely thrilled and i’m happy that the fandom is bubbling with excitement. it’s a nice change.
I’m happy the guys all seem excited with what they know so far.
I’m happy there will be a season 9, and that it looks good for season 10.
I’m happy the comic con interviews were interesting, and gave no really offensive spoilers.
I’m hoping for decent writing and plots that intrigue me and bring back some of my passion for the show.
I am keeping it simple. I love this show. I love these characters. I don’t think there is anything that will make me stop watching this show. I know, in spite of not always being 100% happy with everything that has been done, that I will cherish this show long after it goes off the air. I am looking forward to the new season as I have for every season since S1. Done! 🙂
re: #2 Oh, thank you, Alice, this is both happy and sad news. Sad because I was hoping for her return, but happy that she hadn’t just been forgotten.
re: comment 6 – I agree with you nappi, I don’t think it will be blood either. I can’t imagine what it could be, as I’m sure Dean would never do a demon deal like he did in Season 2, so it will be exciting to find out.
I think since the cure is being based on lore one of the objects catalogued by Dean will come into play. I’m thinking specifically of the spear of destiny. We know it’s in the bunker and the spear has a tradition of being a great and powerful device that has magical healing powers. I think its capable of healing Sam.
I like this idea Debi, now we just have to figure out why Dean would keep it a secret
I am happy this show is coming back for at least one more season. It is the only show on tv right now that I make it a point to watch. I am happy that it has the 2 best actors on tv as the leads ( how is is possible these guys have not been at least nominated fr Emmys?) and all the supporting actors are also excellent actors. I am happy that the writers continue to tell compelling stores and keep me guessing. I am happy that the look and feel of the show continues to be be as good or better than what is done for feature films due to an amazing crew. As for the info that came out of Comic Con, I am happy that there will not be a time jump, that the brothers will be together, and that the stars seem psyched by the stories they have read so far.
Also happy that the show supports such a great fan base, particularly this site.
I love Jared’s excitement! I haven’t been that excited. Really kinda nervous, but he was so completely exuberant that it was infectious.
I love that Bobby is coming back.
I love that Bobby is coming back.
I love that Bobby is coming back!
I love that Charlie is coming back.
I love that Crowley is coming back.
Me too Kelly!! 🙂
Lately I’ve been asked repeatedly (my friends seemed to get tired of my SPN obsession) what is it I like so much about this show. I gave it a thought and realized that in fact there is actually nothing I don’t like. This series’s really opened doors to me and acquainted with things I didn’t suspect of existing, at least in their actual form and shape. Now I know what is the difference between cast and crew, learned a few things about the production process, not much but enough to understand how hard this work is and respect all the efforts made by the show team day after day throughout all these eight years. Now I know how passionate and protective, and at the same time how demanding fandom can be. Never before it occurred to me that fans are that strong and can really influence TPTB. It’s amazing! And never before I’ve invested in a TV show so much personally, thanks to the actors’ performances and great mythology and partly to the numerous reviews I took interest in, the reviews which helped me to get a deeper insight into the story and the characters’ development.
I don’t know what is in store to us in the next season, but this show never disappointed me, so I am not afraid to see more angst and confrontation between brothers, Cas as a comic relief, Sam’s frustration and Dean being a cook and a nurse for his sick brother. I’m sure that our favorite actors will be able to cope with any “less than stellar” scripts and turn them into something brilliant. In fact, I’ve got a lot of wishes for the future season, but mostly I just want the show to go on, and since it is so I am happy.
(my friends seemed to get tired of my SPN obsession)
I totally relate to this, my sister said she doesn’t know how my family doesn’t punch me hahaha
Things I am happy about include basically all the characters! Charlie coming back, Cas as human, Crowley is just awesome and of course the Winchesters together against practically everything. Boo to Metatron but am happy at the idea he will get his just desserts! I can’t wait to see him smited! (smitten..?) Angels we haven’t met before should be fun and yes that the show is returning. So happy dance!
This thread needs more action, and more hugs (we wuv hugs)! I love this show and loved season 8. I am excited for season 9. While I hate a concept as cliche’ as the cliff-hanger, I am willing to live with them as Tv just can’t seem to grasp that it’s viewers have changed. But, whereas past seasons have left me saying “how are they going to get out of this mess?” Now I am seeing so many possibilities. As long as I have Sam & Dean, I am happy. And I have the feeling we’ll be seeing the wrath of Abaddon very soon and that just sounds like so much fun, tho I’ll miss Aliana Huffman. It just feels like there are so many doors open now and I am so excited to see what happens next.
Thisoldbag (18) You are so right about more postings being needed here. So even though I have already posted I will add that I love the great acting on the show. I love the way Robbie Thompson, a newer writer, watched all the episodes before he started writing. Like you I’m glad the season finale was less a cliff hanger then a door opener to endless possibilities. I love the fact that my husband, who watches very little TV, loves SPN too. I love the addition of new characters who enrich the brother’s world. I’m gratefull to have the impala back after S7. I’m happy to have found the WFB site and other crazy fans who are older like me.
I am happy that the show got season 9!
and that
… Dean may have good news on the *SPOILER* front (it is in the Nerd HQ video) and
… Dean is probably not going to have to feel like he has the world on his shoulders alone for a while (unless he wants to).
… Sam is going to get better quick and that maybe for a bit he won’t be getting blamed for any world shattering disasters.
… Castiel is going to get new clothes and is not going to be comic relief all the time.
… Crowley is going to be forced to face up to a lot of things, which ought to be fascinating. I have a wonder about how he is going to get out of his predicament but it is all spoilery so I can’t comment on it.
… Kevin could have just as big a role this season, and maybe get his Mom back (yeah like anyone on SPN gets their mother back in any way that is good … 😕 ).
… Jodie! (just that …)
… Sam and Dean are going to be on the same page mostly, and not fighting with each other. (I am sure we can do it on their behalf though, so that’s ok :-* )
… there is no reason why we can’t get all sorts of people, creatures and things back that were in other seasons. (In less happy news they will all be lost again before the end of the episode but I suppose you can’t have everything)
… the guys will all get more time off to go try cocktails in bars (ref:Twitter) and hang out with their wives and kids and hopefully they won’t all get the flu like last year.
Happiness is sort of an after/during the event feeling, I feel this is more like antici ….. pation.
This is where we left it:

What happens next?
Mark Sheppard interview:
I think they have a lot of fun writing my stuff
Interviewer: We have a lot of fun watching it.
That’s the thing, the enjoyment is contagious. The show is made with passion and love and it shows, if it wasn’t we wouldn’t be on the air still.
Truth!
I loved season 8, especially the second half. I love, love, LOVE the Men of Letters concept… love that Bobby, Crowley and Charlie are all coming back. Love that Jodi is still alive and hope that we get to see that as well.
I love that all of the actors are so excited. Don’t mind a little brother fighting (I loves me some angst!).
Elf #20 – sorry, but one of the things I am grateful for is that they apparently killed Mrs. Tran. I found her to be singularly annoying. I actually liked Kevin a lot more without her. Sorry – that being said and if you are right and she survived, I will deal.

No worries at all Grace 😀 I found it funny last night trying to come up with positive things to post on the happiness thread. Not because it is hard to be positive but because this is supposed to be a positive thinking zone you don’t want to come up with positives that will annoy people – and that is nearly impossible! 😀 I have other things that I am happy about that I wouldn’t post because I KNOW they would annoy people.
(A less contentious example being the character being used to illustrate this page is one I am not fond of, not because I dislike her exactly but because I don’t feel that she is genuinely part of the show’s mythology – she is too self-aware – one of my happinesses is that the show runners have said they are going to use her sparingly because they say she is not really a part of the shows mythology… that understanding has made me happy)
Love it, Eilf. I really like that character a lot, but agree with you that a little goes a long way. Glad I did not offend you. Truthfully, I love the show so much that a little annoyance here and there is no big deal for me.
I’m really excited for S9. I liked all the Comic Con spoilers this year and especially loved how excited Jared was for Sam’s storyline in S9. His enthusiasm has me both intrigued and all tingly with anticipation.
I LOVED where the events of Sacrifice left the brothers’ relationship, I can’t wait to see how S9 further develops their relationship -with no doubt plenty of angst and some fighting but hopefully there will be the brotherly hugs and closeness too.
I’m looking forward to seeing Kevin, Crowley and Bobby back again and I’m very happy that Jodie is still alive. I hope we’ll see her soon too. Also looking forward to more of the MOL storyline. I’m also very happy that there’s no time jump and S9 is picking up exactly where S8 left off.
And I love that Carver said that they are going to “mine even more rich emotional territory” with the characters.
One slight grouchy moment – there was no mention of Garth in any of the Comic Con spoilers I’ve read around the fandom. 🙁 I do hope we get news that Garth is also coming back as I love his character.
i love everything…it’s really that simple. 😆
but what i really am happy about and what i really love is that we got sam’s voice. It was 8 years and about ten minutes in the making, but not only does dean see sam, i mean really see sam for the first time, but so does the rest of the fandom.
i love that when i rewatch from the beginning, i’m seeing the show in a new light, well not really so new as i’ve always leaned more towards sam and i’ve never had a problem understanding him. but to watch now, every action sam has ever taken makes sense. this may only apply to me, but this is the what makes me happy thread right.
for example. i’ve seen posts where people were upset at sam in heartache because he told dean that dean would be better off on his own. i’ve seen sam get jumped on because it was presumed he wanted a normal life. but after watching sacrifice, for me at least it’s become so clear that sam wasn’t talking about wanting a normal life. sam was referring, at least it’s how i see it, to the fact that he is forever a disappointment to dean and dean would be better off without him.
that’s just one example. there are more and not just regarding sam. it’s amazing to me how long the boys have mispercieved ea. other….and now, after two little speeches, the entire 8 seasons is seen, at least by me, with clearer vision…like getting glasses for the first time…such clarity now.
it’s put new life into a show that is going on 9 years old…..new life…heart….brotherly bond stronger than ever….and a now newly excited fandom….
happiness = sam and dean winchester
thanks carver….for bringing the happy back 😆
#26 i agree, where is the Garth love? 😆
#27-oh Nappi , YOU make me happy, because you said exactly what i was thinking, but i coudnt articulate. I see Sam the same way, and it really does seem to be clearer this year. Thank goodness and add my hope for more of the same.
I’ll throw some Garth love out there! I love Garth! I don’t agree that he has somehow ‘slighted’ Bobby by taking over the organization of the hunters….I mean, someone had to do it, so he stepped up. And he’s somehow oddly effective as a hunter in his own awkward way; he’s not a bad ass, but he gets the job done pretty well. I only didn’t throw out some Garth love in my previous post because I hadn’t heard anything about him coming back in the comic-con spoilers, but I really hope he does. He was at the party that they threw for Jared’s birthday, so I am hoping that that means he’ll be back.
