Supernatural’s Top Ten Funniest Scenes – #3
#3 – Eye of The Tiger ““ “Yellow Fever”
Let’s face it. If I allowed multiple scenes from the same episode to make the list, “Yellow Fever” would be taking most of the top ten slots. This was a gem filled episode, with one riotous bit after another in rapid succession. I was surprised I didn’t collapse from a heart attack after this one. Luckily, the dark ending saved me.
I mean, how could I choose? Do I go with the vicious hellhound chasing Dean disguised as a tiny yorkie, complete with adorable head accessory? Or do I choose the squeamish autopsy with removed heart and squirting spleen juice? What about Dean driving like an old man, refusing to make the left turn? Dean’s side-splitting fit of anxiety during the conversation with the dead guy’s neighbor, the reptile collector? The taunting book and clock? Dean volunteering for flashlight duty and screaming like a girl over a kitten, then running like the cowardly lion? Dean drunk in the sheriff’s office, complete with Sam’s hysterical denial and Dean slurring to the deputy “you’re awesome”? Dean freaking out over him and Sam being fake FBI agents? Oh, and I can’t forget Dean’s priceless resignation from his job as hunter with full diva rant.
I had to pick one scene though, and the “Eye of The Tiger” video at the end wins. I chose this for two reasons. For one, I’m a child of the 80’s, and Jensen nailed every cheesy and clichéd move from the era with sheer perfection. He pushed the funny to fall-over-my-seat-and-hit-my-head-on-the-coffee-table hilarious while on top of the Impala, when he played his leg as a guitar. That’s the nugget I got to share with all my non-Supernatural friends and it made them laugh in hysterics, thus making it one of the most extraordinary pieces of work ever to come from this show. Judging by the staggering number of hits on YouTube, other fans found themselves in the same boat.
I’m prepared though for the “cop out” screams and the accusations that since “Eye of The Tiger” was a separate video clip at the end of an episode after the credits rolled, it doesn’t count. So, for those thinking that, I’ve also attached the scene from “Yellow Fever” that’s my personal favorite. Which one is yours?

I was hoping you’d put Eye of the Tiger on your list! That was one of the greatest things EVER. Like you, I too showed it to each and every one of my non-SPN watching friends and we all laughed together. It was quite the talk at the office – and since we’re all women, there was drool involved too.
Everything about Yellow Fever was delightful. The “diva” I-Quit scene is another classic. I don’t know that I could pick a favourite from this episode – the cat scream is definately up there though.
Can’t wait to see what makes the top three!
I just want to say thanks for all your posts Alice, I so look forward to reading what you put up – it’s alway one of the highlights in my day. When I’ve had a bad day, or week (as the case may be) I can always find something to make me smile. Thanks for that.
My theory is that since it aired on television, it’s part of the episode so it’s fair game. It’s not like you pulled it off a DVD extra and included it. So game on! GRIN
So here’s a poll for you – how many of us showed this clip to our non-SuperN fans – cause I did too.
I love the I Quit scene too. However, I always find it kind of interesting that at the end, before he walked off he actually told Sam to stay away from him. That was very contradictory since even in the height of the sickness when he though Sam was possessed, he was prepared to save is brother.
So being the suspicious soul that I am, I wonder if that was an oops or if there was something else that made him say it that way.
Otherwise, that is got to be my favourite (other than the music vid) from this episode too.
it’s not just the terrific writing and jensens performance but jared’s as well. the look on sam’s face when dean is ranting is hilarious esp when dean is going on about how long they spend in the car and that he listens to the same five albumns over and over again sam’s face just says “well yeah…but” and also his face when dean say and you’re gassy….it’s annoyed exasperated and a little guilty. just brilliant. who knew home truths could be so funny!
As a bit of a superannuated rock chick I’ve seen a few hysterical air-guitar solos but that one tops the lot by miles, 😆 playing his leg was genius!
I loved Dean’s gold star I-quit-and-you-smell hissy fit, my kids all fart like trains … If you feed them you have to drive with the windows open.
Not sure about the cat, the whole sawmill part was rather wasted on me as I spent the entire time thinking it was a bit odd that it had stood around empty for years and no one had moved even a piece of paper. Obviously a most law-abiding sort of neighbourhood …
The cat did not work for me either, but I loved the dog. Especially the part when Sam comes back and asks: “How did you get there?” and Dean answers like a little boy “I ran.”
The rant was great too, but not so very FUNNY. I took it seriously. Spent time thinking about what he said and all.
But The Eye of Tiger WAS the best part. BTW, I really hated this song before. Changed the station, when it came from the radio and when my online-companions listened it while we were playing WoW and cheered, I moaned and asked them to please, please, please not to play it again. (They did, anyway and I turned off the sound).
But it was greatgreatgreat fun, Jensen and his wonderful little show, and now I even like the song without video, when I hear it.
Because of the good memories it brings to me.
I Loved that Jensen did this,it shows just how adorkable he is and why we LOVE him as much as we do. 😀
I loved that you chose Dean’s diva moment as your fav in episode moment!! That was my absolute fav! Although the cat scream was funny it was to OTT for my tastes. Dean’s outburst was damn hilarious and it was also a indication to what Dean’s really going through post-Hell. Regardless of ghost sickness its not surprising if this pressure and responsibility gets to him.
I thought this episode provided some great comic relief to a drama filled season (though I’m not complaining about the drama, mind you, just expressing that I enjoy the balance between drama/comedy that the show typically embodies).
I love the OTT scream (laugh at it just thinking about it, actually) but not so much because of the scream, but because of the line that follows it. “That was scary!” For some reason, the delivery of that line tickles me every time.
