Top Ten Motel Rooms – Part One
Yes, now that the excitement of Comic Con has passed, I’m writing up random lists at work while bored. By popular demand (both of you!), I present The Top Ten Motel Rooms of Supernatural. There’s no real criteria here, just that they stand out.
#10 – “Playthings”
In going through the possible list, I vividly remembered that two great looking but tough guys being mistaken for gay antiquers shouldn’t be hanging out in a luxury New England inn with a really weird wedding dress on the wall. “What the?” indeed. Dean for the first time actually had to deal with tipping the bell hop. It did have a courtesy bar though, thus allowing Sam to get drunk. I didn’t envy their hotel bill though, those things are expensive. Their room also had a nice toilet for Sam to puke in. Plus all those creepy dolls, grandma in the attic, and a perfect covered pool for Sam to jump into and come out all wet. Not your average hotel by any means.
Anyhow, as someone who has seen a few of these lodges firsthand, they got this one perfect. I especially laugh over the fact that Dean is seen in this lodge cleaning the guns. That’s way more than these “deer hunters” do with firearms. Also, this room introduces the infamous deer’s head. The one that’s seen in several other episodes, including #10 on this list.

Alice Jester is the founder, editor-in-chief, head writer, programmer, web designer, site administrator, marketer, and moderator for The Winchester Family Business. She is a 30 year IT applications and database expert with a penchant for creative and freelance writing in her spare (ha!!) time. That’s on top of being a wife, mother of two active kids, and four loving (aka needy) pets.
Every time I see one of these rooms, I wonder what the bathroom plumbing must be like. And then I think of Dean enjoying the steam shower in Bugs.
So double the fun, and thank you Alice for the reminder!
Oh that deer head..we sure do see a lot of him haha
Since I’m not from the US, sometimes I wonder if there are certain inside jokes that I’m not getting, since the set designers say they decorate the motel rooms based on whatever the particular state is famous for. But whether there is or not, some of the rooms just make me laugh anyway. Faellie, if you think of the plumbing, I imagine the kind of smells produced by some motel rooms, lol.
(On a sidenote, omg! The ad at the bottom of this page is advertising antler ceiling fans. What?!)
I love checking out the motel rooms — even after so many viewings (and they keep growing) I find something new to laugh about and appreciate.
Thanks for doing your own top 10! I love these.
Those set decorators kick ass — I want a job there! 😀
*gg* I love that, by day you’re a no-nonsense (whatever your title is) and by night you’re one of US — oohing and ahhing over details such as their motel rooms. IMPORTANT details, mind you. Okay, I’m looking forward to seeing what your #1 is (and if it’s the same as mine).
I love the rooms, though, as someone from the US, I have never seen anything like it. Now I have to admit that that last time I stayed in motels like that was the 1970’s, but still, they were not like this(pretty basic inside). You don’t see too many motels like what Dean and SAm stay in anymore, and when you do, you wonder who uses them?
I really enjoy how massivly tacky the motel rooms are … Most sets in TV land are all bland and tasteful and dull as dull but these are great! I wouldn’t want to actually stay in one, mind you … But the hideous decor does makes Sam and Dean look even more tasty in comparison! 😆
I was just wondering why every room has “funky-themed” dividers between the spaces 😉
