Top Six Favourite Episodes: Supernatural Season 10
Welcome back to “Top Six Favourites Episodes”, this time for season ten! These are, still to this day, the nearest and dearest to my heart, my comfort episodes, the ones I go to when I need a laugh or a cry or the comfort of an old friend.
Before you read my list, make your own list of season 10 favourites! It will be fun to compare your unbiased choices (before you are unduly influenced by my memories or picks) to mine. Nightsky reveals her top 6 season 10 favourites after mine, so you’ll have two WFB staff lists as a comparison!
So without further ado, here’s my list of season ten favourites! The list is by order of appearance only, as they all are equal in their importance to me.
1) “Fan Fiction”
Sam and Dean head out on a missing teacher case.
When the brothers show up at the school, they are mortified to find out that the school….
……..is doing a stage production of Chuck Shurley’s books on the Winchesters stories.
After some investigation the brothers realise they are dealing with Calliope, a muse of poetry.
She wants to see the play go on.
This episode brought some very memorable music including a version of “Carry on Wayward Son.”
Which had a strong emotional effect on both Sam ….
…. and Dean.
2) “There’s No Place Like Home”
Sam comes across a video of Charlie beating up a man.
They find out that in order to defeat the evil in Oz, she had split her personality into two -one good and….
…one evil. The evil side is seeking revenge on the driver who killed her parents.
Sam and Charlie research how to re-unite the two Charlie’s. They find information on Clive, a MOL who found a key to Oz and is still alive.
Meanwhile, Evil Charlie confronts the man who killed her parents. Dean allows her to say her peace not knowing she plans to kill the man.
Evil Charlie makes her way to Clive’s place to stop him from re-uniting her with Good Charlie.
Dean arrives to stop Evil Charlie. As they battle each other, the Mark starts taking over Dean and he beats Charlie badly.
Sam brings out Good Charlie and stops Dean from nearly killing Evil Charlie.
Both Charlie’s are re-united into one.
3) “About A Boy”
Sam tells Dean about a missing persons case.
Once in town, Sam checks out the missing person’s home while Dean checks out the bar where the man was last seen. While there, Dean meets Tina.
When Tina leaves the bar, she is followed. Dean investigates and both are captured by a stranger.
Tina and Dean wake to find themselves locked up… and transformed into teenagers.
Dean manages to escape and returns to a confused Sam.
While returning to where Tina is held captive, Dean wonders if he wouldn’t be better off staying a teenager, leaving behind his liver problems and the MoC.
Sam and Dean return to the site to rescue Tina.
The Witch Katja enjoys cooking (fresh young children).
Dean manages to get a hold of the magic bag, save everyone and return to his adult self.
4) “The Executioners Song”
Cain is killing all of his bloodline.
Cas confronts Cain about curing the MoC at the massive grave site of all his descendants. Unfortunately there is no cure.
Austin is another descendant which…..
…the brothers, Cas and Crowley come to save while laying a trap for Cain.
Dean confronts Cain and a battle ensues.
Dean gets the upper hand and Cain accepts his execution.
An exhausted Dean collapses into Sam’s arms.
5) “Book of the Damned”
Charlie is being hunted by the Styne family. She manages to contact the brothers and they arrange to meet.
Charlie shows them the ‘Book of the Damned’ which may have a spell to cure/remove the MoC.
The Styne family uses the book to locate the brothers and Charlie.
Sam throws the book in the fire, so the Stynes will no longer pursue them.
Meanwhile, Cas has Metetron captive and if forcing him to lead Castiel to his grace.
After a bit of a bumpy trip, Cas is reunited with his grace and…
…..his powers.
At the end of the episode, we find out Sam didn’t burn the book and is making a deal with Rowena to translate it and find the cure for the MoC.
6) “The Werther Project”
Back in 1973, a young Suzie finds a safe and releases a guarding spirit that tricks her family into killing themselves.
While searching for the Codex to decipher the ‘Book of the Damned’, Sam learns that Magnus put the book in a Werther Box.
Sam goes to an old MoL property to retrieve the book, however, an older Suzie refuses him access into what had become her family’s house.
Dean follows Sam. Dean manages to get into the house as Sam sneaks into the basement.
Sam accidentally releases the guarding spirit and it enters both Dean …..
and Suzie. Suzie ends up killing herself and become a ghost that torments Sam…
… while Dean hallucinates that he is back in purgatory with Benny.
Rowena shows up to help Sam open the safe, but it’s really the box’s spell, not Rowena.
The safe needs MOL blood to open but Sam nearly dies from blood loss.
Dean escapes his delusion and helps Sam open the safe. They now have the Codex.
Those are my top favourites for season ten! As promised, here are Nightsky’s “Top 6 Favourite Episodes” for season ten, in order of preference:
- “Fan Fiction”
- “Soul Survivor”
- “Brother’s Keeper”
- “The Executioner’s Song”
- “The Werther Project”
- “About A Boy”
Nightsky: There are a lot of good episodes in season 10! Comparing my list to Karen’s, I have to acknowledge the heavy broment, myth arc season ten bookends of “Soul Survivor” and “Brother’s Keeper”. “There’s No Place Like Home” is #7 for me. “Inside Man” and “Hibbing 911” are my #8 and #9, all still within my top 100 favorites. While I like “Book of the Damned”, it didn’t make the cut.
