Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections “Fan Fiction”
The first video I chose was a fan video that took a humorous angle to the episode. I have seen few of these before and they are hilarous. The music and the text are combined with the scenes and they all together give the comedic timing and the tempo to the video. It is like gagreels/bloobers about behind the scenes but on these they use the real footage from the show.
“SAM : I’m special agent Smith. This is my partner, special agent –
DEAN : Smith.”
“DEAN : Hah ! Well… I mean, if there was singing, you know… And that’s a big if ! If there was singing, it would be classic rock. Not this Andrew Floyd Webber crap -“
For the second video I actually had one that I made myself and I am glad I can introduce and tell my thought process how I made it. I really loved the music of the episode on bought the songs immediately when they were put up in I-Tunes. Only thing that I was dissapointed was that I couldn’t buy The Single Man Tear version that had the exorsism on it. So, to my video I combined both versions because the exorsism one really gave me goosebumps. That was about the song choice so moving on. Because of the song my first and only choice for the video was “The Brothers”. I wanted to start with the monologues that I remembered from Sam and Dean that I remembered and made an impact to me.
“Sam: Yeah, I’ve been following you around my entire life! I mean, I’ve been looking up to you since I was four, Dean. Studying you, trying to be just like my big brother. So yeah, I know you. Better than anyone else in the entire world. And this is exactly how you act when you’re terrified. And, I mean, I can’t blame you. It’s just…
Dean: What?
Sam: I wish you would drop the show and be my brother again. ‘Cause… just ’cause.”
“DEAN: Hold on, hold on! You seriously think that? Because none of it — none of it — is true. Listen, man, I know we’ve had our disagreements, okay? Hell, I know I’ve said some junk that set you back on your heels. But, Sammy…come on. I killed Benny to save you. I’m willing to let this bastard and all the sons of bitches that killed mom walk because of you. Don’t you dare think that there is anything, past or present, that I would put in front of you! It has never been like that, ever! I need you to see that. I’m begging you.”
Then I thought about the seasons I would use and I could only see it with the episodes that had the earlier years and it fit also to the theme of Fan Fiction because the scenes the audience got were from seasons 1 to 5.
The real opening scene I chose was none other than the first scene we saw in the pilot that had the adult brothers. That is one of my favorite scenes still. Pilot was used a lot because I guess it really has a special place in my mind. The rest is all brothers and about their family and I tried to choose scenes that fit to when “Sam” was singing and also to when “Dean” was singing.
I hope you enjoy both videos.
“Dean: I think he wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things. The family business.”

A single man tear by Alyssa Lynch, Katie Sarife, Christopher Lennertz & Cameron Stone
Sam sings
A single man tear slips down his face
He shows emotion without a trace
He hides behind a mask so strong
Worried that he could be wrong
I wish that he could see the way I see him
The perfect brother, a man without sin
Cause underneath the manly sheen
It is my brother, a boy named Dean
A single man tear
A single man tear
A single man tear that’s all we fear
Dean sings
A single man tear that’s all i’ll spare
I bury feelings, don’t show I care
Even though I’m haunted
Must be the man daddy wanted
Wish I could be as strong as Sam
Blaze my own trail, be my own man
But underneath this broken mask
It is my father, with all his wrath
A single man tear
A single man tear
A single man tear that’s all we fear
Quotes:
“Maeve: Did he just quote Rent?
Marie: Not enough to get us in trouble.
Dean: Now you get out there and kick it in the ass!”
Trivia:
“The song “A Single Man Tear” refers to Dean Winchester’s propensity for crying a Single Perfect Tear. Sera Gamble once said the writers referred to the phenomenon as “A Single Perfect Man-Tear.””
“John DeSantis, who appeared uncredited as the Scarecrow, previously played Freeman Daggett in 3.13 Ghostfacers and the Golem in 8.13 Everybody Hates Hitler.”
“Fan Fiction” is one of only three episodes in the shows history along with 1.06 Skin & 2.20 What Is and What Should Never Be where the only death is that of the monster of the week.”
Composers:
“Christopher Joseph Lennertz (born January 2, 1972) is an American musical composer for films, television shows, and video games. He is perhaps best known for his musical score for the 2007 film Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hop, Think Like A Man, and Warner Bros. comedy Horrible Bosses. He composed the score of Supernatural and more recently Revolution, two television series created by Eric Kripke.”

He has composed the musical score for dozens of one hour TV dramas with over 500 hours of shows played internationally. He is the recipient of 3 EMMY Award nominations, one GENIE Award nomination (Canadian Oscar), and 9 ASCAP awards. Some of Gruska’s best known scores are Lois & Clark:The New Adventures of Superman (main title theme and all episodes), Charmed (all 8 seasons) and Supernatural (10 seasons/100+ episodes).”
Title cards:
At the start of the episode you had the title card for this episode plus few of the old ones after it. The title cards are imaginitive and cool art and animation themselves and they are meant to tell the story/give a hint of the season/episode in general. When you see one you immediately know that it is Supernatural. Can’t wait for the season 11 one.
If you are interested on all the other title cards and believe me there are many you can check out:

Lilah, excellent job. the first video had me laughing and the second one made me want to cry. Well done!!
Thanks, glad you liked them!
I guess the videos were good opposites when you think about it. And I am glad that there are “Urban legends” called the comedic videos. They are rare but those that have been made are usually good and bring a smile on your face. 🙂

Lilah, Your video was really cool. I love the editing to the song. Nice job!
Thank you. Glad you liked it! 🙂
I really liked the exorcism version of the song that was on the episode. I loved everything in that scene specially the effect when the demon were leaving the host. Old time theatrical effects made me in awe. But the music was the cake. Who could have thought that Latin would sound so good?

Very nice Lilah. Loved your selections and your video was great. I love that version of Single Man Tear.
Thanks!
I was really between The Single Man Tear and Carry On My Wayward Son version because that song was pretty nice too, but it had been used already 10 times in a fan vid of the week article so decided that it was not COMWS time this time. 🙂

omg Eric’s lost a lot of his hair
I haven’t seen him that much so can’t really tell. Those I have seen I think he has looked the same so they must be recent. 😉

Lilah. Thank you for the presentation of the videos. The first was a good compilation of funny moments and made me laugh. Your video was excellent. You really captured the essence of the brother relationship with the use of dialogue, choice of imagery, and haunting music. It certainly elicited an emotional response from me. The Pilot silhouette scene of introduction to the boys as they face each other established and defined their relationship from the start and still stands through to season 10.
Thank you for watching the videos and your very kind words. It is good that first made you laugh and the second was seen like I was thinking it myself. The song was all about the brothers so the video could not be anything else in my mind than just them. It is also nice that we are getting more videos about Supernatural with humor. Those have been pretty rare and opposite effects usually are stronger when watched back to back.

Lilah, another brotherly moment that I felt was defining and had a huge impact on me was the scene in 7.02 Hello Cruel World in the warehouse when Sam, having his mind cracked by Castiel was suffering from the severe hallucinations of Lucifer and Dean reached out and took his hand. The acting in the scene by J2 was excellent and heart wrenching. It touched on the effects of mental infirmity and how family can help pull a person back from the edge.
Dean: I am your flesh-and-blood brother, okay? I’m the only one who can legitimately kick your ass in real time. You got away. We got you out, Sammy. Believe in that. Believe me, okay? You gotta believe me. You’ve gotta make it stone number one and build on it.
Even though I didn’t like season seven as a whole I did enjoy it when other characters were focused on than the Leviathans. This brother moment was one of them. And it is nice that Dean could pull Sam back to understand what is reality and what is not. That wound on Sam’s hand makes me cringe every time I think about it because that kind of wound really hurts and can make a huge damage how your hand works and how it feels. I did enjoy a lot more the MOTW episodes than the big bad.
I agree that it is a good brotherly moment. During 10 years luckily we have had many of them.
