#3 – Gordon Walker
I know, this guy rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. My husband absolutely hates him. When you look at it though, Gordon is the first ambiguous character in terms of crossing undefined lines, something this show has chosen to explore constantly since then, even with its main characters. Ever since Gordon met his end by jaw dropping slow decapitation, that line between black and white has not only grayed, but it’s almost completely washed out. To think Gordon started all that just by having motives of ridding the world of evil, motives no different than all the other hunters, including the Winchesters. His definition of evil was a bit too restrictive though. Okay, way too restrictive. No give and take with ole Gordo.
Sure, I’ll admit by “Fresh Blood” the “Sam Winchester must die” mantra got a little old, but if you think about it, how wrong was he? Despite all his mumbo jumbo about Sam being the Anti-Christ and his annoying desire to kill Sam before he used any of his abilities, his fear of Sam bringing the apocalypse seems to be valid now. That almost makes Gordon a prophet. A really scary, bat shit crazy prophet. Gordon’s obsessive behavior over killing Sam is strangely similar to Sam’s obsession for revenge on the yellow-eyed demon and Lilith. Being that driven means being blind and with that blindness comes some pretty dark behavior.
Gordon mostly took his chilling wrath out on Vampires, and no one became more feared in that realm. Part of his menace came because never believed that those not purely human could straighten and restrain the evil inside. He even hunted down and killed his own sister after she turned into a Vampire rather than give her a chance. Of course being that much of a supernatural racist eventually got him in trouble.
When he turned unnatural himself thanks to a hot vampire who gave him his long deserved comeuppance, Gordon’s blind obsession of ridding the world of Sam wouldn’t rest. He would only kill himself once he knew to world was free of the soon-to-be-evil Sam. He even killed a fellow hunter so he could accomplish that goal. Interesting how he took the life of an innocent human so the ends could justify the means. Sound like someone we know in the season four finale? It’s incredible the parallels between Gordon and Sam.
Dean’s relationship with Gordon is fascinating too. At first Dean adores Gordon because they seem cut from the same cloth. Gordon even understands Dean’s pain over his father’s death, relating to that deep hole inside and how it keeps him hungry for hunting.
Gordon: Know why I love this life?
Dean: Hmm?
Gordon: It’s all black and white. There’s no maybe. You find the bad thing, kill it. See, most people spend their lives in shades of gray. Is this right? Is that wrong? Not us.
Dean: Not sure Sammy would agree with you, but uh…
Gordon: Doesn’t seem like your brother’s much like us. I’m not saying he’s wrong. Just different. But you and me? We were born to do this. It’s in our blood.
By the end of “Bloodlust” Dean gets wise about Gordon, but it isn’t until “Hunted” that he realizes how far psycho Gordon will go to serve his brand of “killing all the psychic kids” justice. Gordon even has the nerve to tell Dean that John Winchester would have done the right thing if he had to. Thems fighting words! Of course Dean has other issues after getting knocked out and tied up while Gordon sets a trap for Sam. Everyone admit it though, seeing Dean bound to a chair and gagged isn’t exactly a waste of time.

YAY! Love hateful Gordon … Hope he comes back as a vengence-crazed headless zombie vampire sometime …
Getting better, therapy’s working, didn’t mention the A-word once … Ooops! 😆
