My planned article today, a well written thought provoking analysis, suffered greatly from one vicious case of writers block. So what happens to a fatigued and stressed mind that missed a deadline? Easy, it heads for the gutter. In going through the archives and updated photo gallery for inspiration I found my articles last…
With the show going into its final season, I started to reflect on the past fourteen years and the episodes that are still, to this day, the nearest and dearest to my heart. To me they are my comfort episodes, the ones I go to when I need a laugh or a cry or the…
There’s always a certain amount of filler episodes in every season, and while they often vary in quality, it’s a good chance for the show to let its hair down and experiment, as well. So I’ll leave the mytharc to people more qualified than myself. But I’m a fan, and that is all the qualification…
Welcome back to “Top Six Favourite Episodes”, this time for season thirteen. These episodes are, still to this day, the nearest and dearest to my heart, my comfort episodes, the ones I go to when I need a laugh or a cry or the comfort of an old friend. Before you read my list, make…
#1 Manic Depressive Teddy Bear – “Wishful Thinking” You just don’t get more absurd that this. This show has prided itself on attacking every sacred institution imaginable. It’s ruined Christmas, Birthday parties, fairy tales, parenthood, mellon ballers, so why not teddy bears? What do you visualize when the impossible happens and your teddy bear comes to life? In the…
Editor’s Note: In anticipation of Supernatural’s final season resuming on Oct. 8th, The CW is rerunning several of the initial 13 episodes from season 15. To get us all back into the groove of watching and discussing each story, Deb has agreed to once again share her recap reviews of the good, the bad and…
The Skin shapeshifter, in my opinion. I adore both of them, but Skin is probably one of my favourite episodes in the first season… I don’t know. I just find the idea of psychotic shapeshifters very, very creepy, and on the side of the mytharc it’s a good old horrorshow and I like to be scared. I like to be creeped out. If I didn’t, I’d watch My Little Pony.
I think the way each shapeshifter is written is clever, in that it shows how each of them “begins” the same, but grows to be what they are depending on their reaction to the circumstances and events of their up-bringing Mmm sounds a bit like our boys and the way they have reacted and grown. I personaly prefer the “darker” one in “skin”, still have a soft spot for the fun in Draculla!
Waiting for the next offering

I’d go with the Monster Movie shapeshifter, but the Skin shapeshifter gets bonus points for choosing Dean’s skin 😀
Hi, Alice,
Great comparisons between them all, I agree, for this particular adventure the shapeshifter in Nightshifter is out as his character wasn’t really part of the story, Ronald and Henricksen got those parts so we never knew the shapeshifter.
Both characters (Skin and Monster Movie) got to show their vulnerable sides, what haunted them and ‘made them’ still, they chose their paths and choosing evil is always a way to get killed, in the Supernatural world certainly.
I loved them both and can’t choose. It’s nice to have a multiple monsters from multiple seasons to curl up with when I’m in the mood for a shapeshifter triple play.
Great list.
Although i liked the shapeshifter in skin i just adore dracula! just so funny. both had a vulnerable side, similar experiences growing up and use violence to obtain their own ends, but the dracula monster i just feel is something a little deeper, he’s not just rage but is looking for love (going about it the wrong way) but is creative and random and has a million shades to him whereas all you see with the skin shapeshifter is rage and anger. plus loved the cloak!
Hmmm … Tricky …
Nightshifter ‘shifter gets points for being in such a total blinder of an episode and for inspiring Ron and his fabulously useless Mandroid theory … Bless …
Skin ‘shifter was evil, horrible, manipulative and twenty-seven flavours of vile so well done
him/her/it …
In the end my personal biscuit goes to the Monster Movie version for being splendidly daft ( the Vespa, the coupon, the leiderhosen … I could go on all night ) and actually rather touching at the end. It’s hard not to love a movie spod, whatever shape they are!
