I accept, I’ve always needed a “catch all” thread going here. The one where you can make comments about the little jarring changes I keep making to the site, suggestions about what you’d like to see (yes a spoiler page is in the works once spoilers actually start happening) or you might have a question at large about Supernatural or any Supernatural related news you’ve heard recently. Here is the place to post all those non-article related things. No question is too burning! I might not always know the answer, but I am a bit more informed that the average fangirl so try me. We’ve got some time to kill during this hellatus, so fire away! Just not literately.

On another site (can’t remember which) someone said that Jensen said that season six would be his last season. Sounded definite but you never know. Have you heard anything like that? I like to hope that even though their contracts are up this season that they could be persuaded to continue. (Selfish of me, I guess). Just don’t want to say goodbye to the Winchesters. 🙁

I have a suggestion of sorts, and I hope it doesn’t create too much work for you or Jenniffer, but I was watching the new video you posted as the video of the week, and I thought it might be cool to be able to go back and see the other videos you have posted in there for previous weeks. Maybe there can be a page with the links or something so we can check out any ones we miss? I really liked last week’s and wanted to watch it again, but I couldn’t remember the name.

Ardeospina’s comment just above mine prompted me to take a look at the Episode Guide section and OH MY GOODNESS THAT IS AWESOME!
Thank you for the photos and the list of articles along with the particualr episode…wow. BTW, love the photo that you chose for The Song Remains the Same. I never noticed the brilliant blocking of that shot so that Anna is laid out on the hood of the firebird(?) so that the wings frame her perfectly. It’s those little touches that make it all so special.

Quite a few times a musical episode of Supernatural had been discussed during convention panels and my take on it is that although everyone would like to do it, nobody knows exactly how. Of course it would be ridiculous to have a demon or deity make them sing and dance like in Buffy, the musical.
I’ve thought about it really long and maybe a musical episode could work like this:
a) every now and then common people like to sing, so maybe we could hear Sam singing in the shower, Dean singing in his car or Bobby singing while cooking hamburgers.
b) Sam and Dean accidentally meet a shapeshifter who is so impressed by womanizer Dean that he changes his form into Dean Winchester to hit on girls – and apparently the shapeshifter likes to dance and do Karaoke. Of course it would be funny to start the episode with shapeshifter!Dean performing on stage.
c) this time it’s not a movie set that’s being haunted but a music hall by the ghost of a rock star. It’s like a death echo and they have to perform the old songs to get the ghost out of his loop. Of course in this one we can have both Jared and Jensen playing guitar as well.
d) or going for all three options above and combine them
A problem of such an episode might be the song rights. Maybe they could find a rock band from the seventies who is still out there and would love to have a little boost through Supernatural. Maybe even some of Jensen Ackles’ friends like Chris Kane would like to perform on the show – as the ghost of a rock star because Chris Kane definitely has the right hair-do.
I might be mistaken, but I thought that Jensen said at Rising Con about Jared and himself “we could hold both a tune” – of course Jensen can sing really good (got everything he ever sang in public on my mp3-player).
Mmmh, maybe they should meet vampire Lenore again, she has a beautiful voice!

A speculative article about seasonn 6 was posted to Zap2It today, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0655585/news#ni3837430 and after reading it and reading the comments (some SERIOUS Sam-haters there), I had to come in and ask a question, just to see if maybe I was going insane.
A lot of the commenters were going on and on about what a dick Sam will be for being out of hell for a year and not telling Dean–just another example of how selfish and what a brat sam is… Now… I think I’ve read pretty much all the spoilers for the new season, and the only thing I recall the show-runners saying is that the show picks up a year later. I don’t think it’s ever been stated that Sam has been out of hell for that entire year… am I remembering incorrectly? I posted a short comment after the article saying what I thought was the case and also saying that everything is speculation at this point and that this attitude was getting people all riled up for nothing, since we won’t know anything until the season premiere. Needless to say, I was ignored.

Any idea why futon critic and my local cable all indicate that Hammer of the Gods and The Devil You Know will not repeat but rather the CW is going to wrap up Season 5 on Sept 3rd and then by all appearances have no SPN on Friday Sept 10th and Friday Sept 17th?
Sure, I know next Friday (a whole week from now :roll:: ) will prove whether or not it is Two Minutes to Midnight rather than Hammer of the Gods but I was just wondering whether you had any info on that.

As usual, Alice, your thoughts are dead-on accurate. The CW just released an update of their schedule through September and sure enough, Hellcats and Nikita get two weeks’ of extra exposure in SMV’s and SPN’s slots….darn. I do plan to give Nikita a shot, could care less about cheerleaders in college, but I’ll give Nikita a couple trys.
CW dreams of the day it gets the ratings of Psych, Burn Notice, White Collar…dream on, but I wish it got them too. Perhaps if it aired it’s shows during the summer and winter repeat doldrums as first runs eps they’d get a better shot.
Oh, well, can moan and groan but it doesn’t make any dif and with the DVDs to be here soon, I’ll be enjoying all the extra goodies on those Friday nights whilst I wait.

Hello Supernatural Fans. Just dropping by to say that the Vancouver Con is going great. I’m having a blast. Creation has made improvements to the flow of the event and it’s all going very well (in my opinion anyhow). The schedule is rockin’.
I will have fullsome reports posted on my site but here are a few teasers. I am a fan of Jason Manns, so I was very happy to see that he would be in attendance for this Con. Plus, we got bonus musicians calling themselves Dos Los Diablos (I think). Turns out these two fellows were more familiar to us than we realized.
Richard Speight Jr, who is a blast, does a bit of a tour thought the audience during his panel. When he sees a guy in the audience he stops and says “Wow, there’s a dude here?” and procceds to question him.
There was a suprise question asker at Clif Klosterman’s panel.
And they moved the Keroke from the broom closet of a room from last year down into the main ballroom. Meant there was no alcohol, but with the stage…awesome.
Anyhow, more to come later. Now I must get back. Cheers

With all the hype over the show being moved and trying to get the fandom to watch tonight’s (wednesday’s) episodes to support SPN and give them stellar ratings, a question occurred to me. Forgive me if you’d answered this before….
If I’m not a Nielson member, how will my watching the show tonight help? How are ratings actually calculated? How does anybody know what I’m watching?

That’s a good question. Sadly, the only way for you to be counted as watching is if you had a Nielsen box. So, watching for you (and me too) is more of a symbolic gesture. Trust me that counts! Fan loyalty has been one reason that this show has stayed on so long.
Everyone knows that there needs to be better ways to measure, especially DVR and online. Those can be measured a bit more accurately and there’s word that will be rolled out sometime next year. Actually, The CW does know when you watch online and how many times. So that’s something. In the meantime, enjoy the repeat!
And I live in Sweden and can’t watch it online from CW. It always says “Sorry, this content is not available in your location” aaagh! 🙁 Sooo, I have to watch it online at sites that doesn’t log what I’m watching…

I’m a new member to your website and I wanted to express the pleasure I get from reading the articles that you and your staff post as well as links to other sites with other information. I have noticed that although there does seem to be some disagreement among some of the posters as to the current season, it does appear that it is very civil. I’ve noticed that on other sites this is not necessarily the case. I find this refreshing and entertaining. A real constructive debate! BTW – If I seem to have some run-on sentences, that’s because I’m studying to be a lawyer and so I’m quite used to that format. We’re a long winded lot. Sorry. Anyway, great job and I look forward to reading and posting in the future. Supernatural is one of the most entertaining shows that I’ve ever been interested in watching. It makes it fun! 😆

I noticed that elle2 hasn’t posted reviews of the last 2 episodes and her “Mystery Spot” link to her articles is no longer on the front page. Is she still a member of the WFB writing staff?
While my stance is once you’re a writer for The Winchester Family Business you stay a writer forever, elle2 is currently not writing articles for us. She is having a hard time with this season plus life is really taking priority. I hope she is just taking a long break, but whether she returns is totally up to her at this point. She is always welcome back.
I for one am extremely grateful for all elle2 has done for this site. She was the first writer to come on board (other than myself) and that summer of 2009 we single handedly took this site to entire new levels. I’ll never forget those times! We’ve grown so much since then. I do wish her the best and if anything, hope she finds her love of Supernatural again.
I’d like to second that, Alice! I miss Elle2 around, and I do hope that she will find the passion and love she used to have again and start writing articles like the ones we loved to read.

Although I have to add that I not only loved to read elle2’s original articles but even her more ones where she expressed her honest feelings about this season. I thought that it took a lot of courage to speak up like that about her disappointment, even if it made some people uncomfortable. The truth is that she hasn’t been alone in feeling so disenfranchised with the show right now and I appreciated how she gave those of us (and there are quite a few, even in hardcore fandom) having doubts about the show’s current direction a voice. And I really thought that the subsequent discussion following her posts brought up some very well thought out, interesting, insightful points from both sides of the argument.
So thank you for that, elle2. You will be missed. The best of luck to you!
Alice, I may have missed a mention of this somewhere on the WFB site, but Hulu is running a poll for the best TV show and Supernatural is currently neck-and-neck with Chuck again. Just an FYI for people, like me, who love the feeling of power whenever Supernatural wins something! 🙂

I had a question that prompted me to think maybe you could do one of your awesome “This is how things work in the industry” articles. At this point we all know that Frontierland and My Heart Will Go On switched airdates. This has happaned in past seasons as well. Who makes those decisions? The newtork? And it seems like they switch them after they’ve been shot, so what happens with plot continuity problems or lines that may be out of place? I’m so curious about this!

The CW network makes the decision and only the network. Often times it’s because the original schedule has changed and it makes sense to air one episode before another. Take for example Season 3, “Mystery Spot” and “Jus In Bello.” “Jus In Bello” was filmed before “Mystery Spot” but because of the writers strike and the possibility that the season would be done after those episodes, they thought “Jus In Bello” would be a better one to finish the season since it was an action episode. I have to agree with that choice because “Jus In Bello” felt like a much better episode to follow “Mystery Spot.”
I didn’t agree with “My Bloody Valentine” and “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.” They switched those because The CW mucked with their schedule and came back from the break a week later than planned. Sadly, just because “My Bloody Valentine” aired on the week of Valentine’s Day, the changed order really threw off the pacing of that part of the season.
I hope this answers the question, albeit belatedly.
This may be a dumb question, but I just registered here on the site. Are there cool ‘member features’ floating about that I should know about? I’m still fiddling my way through it. Cool stuff; enjoying it greatly so far!

I haven’t found out just yet exactly what that meant, but many have speculated that it has to do with a frisking he got at the Vancouver airport on another trip. If I get the real story (or get a chance to ask him at an upcoming Con) I’ll share the story.
Hi all! Just had to let you know what a great time I had at the Boston Con today! I couldn’t afford to go for the whole weekend unfortunately (and apparently missed Chad doing some body surfing with the crowd!), but had a blast for today. Saw Jared, Misha, Brock Kelly and Richard Speight Jr. Had a photo op with Misha (wanted to with Jared but it was just too steep for my blood!) and he was very sweet.
But, I just have to say.. I think I fell a little in love with Richard Speight Jr during his session. What an incredible man! Not only did he profess his sincere thanks to all of us for making his convention experiences great, he also returned the favor. Instead of just staying and talking on the stage, he walked up and down the aisles so that those of us in the “cheap seats” wouldn’t be gypped. He also made the convention for one woman who was clearly a little emotionally overwhelmed with her first con experience. He invited her up to the stage, took her camera and took video of us and himself with her, then gave her a big hug. It was awesome. He was just a lovely human being.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard a rumor that Creation won’t be coming back to Boston, so I’m glad I got to go now if that’s true. If you haven’t gone, I really urge you to at least once, even if it’s only for the day, like me. It’s really fun and you meet all kinds of great people!

I was there for Richard’s first con in Chicago (then his second, and his third…) He was an instant hit from the second he stepped foot in front of everyone. He’s an entertainer and cares about every single fan out there. Fans absolutely love him. He’s got quite a career now going doing these cons. We can’t imagine one without him now.
It’s very likely Creation won’t be back there. Boston was one of the new cities they were testing out this year. It sounds like the con didn’t sell enough tickets or get enough demand. The same is true with San Francisco, they won’t be going back next year. Nashville was a massive hit though so that’s happening again. It’s a shame that NJ seems to be the only East Coast destination.

I am going to NashCon and bringing my niece with me. This will be my first con, although I have been a fan from S1. My husband has family in Nashville so we will be there on Friday night, but we’re staying in the hotel on Saturday so we can hit the cocktail party and not worry about driving back to the mother-in-laws place. Anyone from WinchesterFamilyBusiness going to be there? I’d love to meet some of you folks. Also, is anyone hosting an episode viewing on Friday night? (Not sure my mom-in-law gets the CW). Any other useful newbie info? Can’t wait.
That’s so good you’re going! It’s great to bring a family member. I went to NashCon last year. Took my whole family. It was a total disaster for me. I got sick on the way down, showed up to the first day for J & J in awful condition and then that evening ended up in Vanderbilt Hospital where I was there for four more days. My kids and hubby loved it though. It was my husband and son’s first con. In the end though, they saw a lot more of Nashville than they wanted to see.
I was planning to go this year, but then they changed the date. Now I’m not so sure. It’s a game time decision. I’ve also recently scored tickets to the LA Con in early March. The fact that it’s on Super Bowl weekend makes it look doubtful. But we’ll see, I could always show up last minute. No one else from the staff I know is going. Perhaps you can share your experiences with us? I know I’d love to hear about them.
Hello fellow Supernatural fans! So I’ve been watching Supernatural from the start and you know what I really really like about the show? The “Carry on Wayward Son” montages at the end of the seasons. It makes me think, wouldn’t it just be completely awesome to see the Sam and Dean actually listening to that song in an episode (perhaps even have them comment on the song?). It’d warm my heart to see that. What do you all think??
Jericklee, I think I need to listen to that song myself. 🙂 I hear it, but then they get into whatever happened and I sorta tune it out. But I notice the “don’t you cry no more” and I do wish they would at least listen to that.
So I was reading some of the past articles and read the one about Supernatural and minorities. As often seems to happen, the thread had a long discussion about something other than the topic, in this case about Dean being bisexual. Someone posted a link to another site where someone else had written about “all this evidence,” and I won’t lie, it was compelling but it seemed sooooo subjective to me. When they went one direction, I could so easily argue the other way. I honestly don’t care if he is since he’s a fictional character and not my husband, but now I am curious – for all you fans who have gone to all these conventions – surely someone asked the question, right? What does Jensen or the writers think about this?

Yep, once you register you won’t need to put in the security code and you can edit your comments once they’ve been posted. It doesn’t let you preview (that I know of) but registering definitely has its advantages.

Can anybody fill me in on details?
I can’t fill you in on the details as to why Jensen and Danneel were wearing tattoos, but they are not real. I have two supporting facts. The first is a comment from sweetondean:

Second comes from some information I got once while interviewing Thomas Dekker of The Secret Circle. He has a big tattoo on his arm that he got prior to getting the role, and he said he had to have makeup cover it up during every shoot. Why? The CW has a strict no tattoo policy. Unless it’s essential to the story (aka the anti-demon possession tats) an actor cannot show them on camera. Actors on current shows are highly discouraged from getting them, especially in visible areas. In other words, their ass is probably okay. 😆 Jensen would very likely never get a permanent one on his arm for this reason. I believe that Jared said a similar thing at a con once, but damn I have to dig through the archives to find that.
If I get details as to why they were wearing tattoos, I’ll let you know!

Have you heard anything more about the fate of Supernatural Magazine? I ask because I noticed that they finally cashed the renewal check I sent them about a week before your article about it’s discontinuation was posted and I’m wondering if I should be getting pissed off about that! I honestly had been expecting a refund. It’s a pretty expensive magazine and I don’t have that kind of extra cash, so if I should be bugging them for a refund, I’d like to know!

Last I heard, they were trying to negotiate with Warner Brothers how many more issues they could publish. The overall “attitude” was the magazine was ending but they didn’t know when. I find it strange they cashed your renewal check. I would call their subscription line and ask about it. Maybe they’ll issue a refund.

While skimming over some of the comments on your review for Blood Brothers, I notice that one of the comments was about J2 asking for more time off (to spend with family and friends) and that’s why the scenes are shot apart. Is this true? I mean I can see that, given the time they have to spend on set and doing all the conventions…it just wears me out thinking about it.

Inside word is the J’s are on board for as many seasons of Supernatural as is possible, but they would like a somewhat lighter schedule. Nothing too intense, but perhaps an extra day a week or something like that. It isn’t just that Jared has a family now, but Jensen too would like some time off. Really, what they’re asking isn’t too hard. A few more extra scenes apart, adding a little more time for guest characters. Misha really helps with this.
You have to understand, it takes 12 hours of shooting to get just five good minutes of footage. So, if Jared or Jensen can get at least 12 less hours of shooting per episode (it takes 8 days to shoot an ep), that’s a big help for them. A lot of people are making a big deal over it, but really it’s just a tweak if you think about it.

I have a question about the Season 7 DVD that I hope you or another member can help me with. I live in Australia which is Region 4 for DVDs, and have previously been disappointed that some extras have been missing. Examples are: no season 4 gag reel, no Season 2 IMTOD commentary.
I have compared Region 1 info on line with Region 4 and they seem to be the same. Does anyone know for sure. I will scream if I buy it and am short changed.

He dropped together with Sam, but except for some very brief mention in Season 6, when Dean tried to get Sam’s soul back, he was never mentioned again.

That was the whole purpose of creating that page, as a place where fans can go to see what polls are happening, what fan projects are in the works, what charity drives are happening, what Twitter hashtags are to be used, that sort of thing. However, people have been very slow to adopt it and have been continuing to send scattered messages like this around.

I am from India and a really huge Supernatural fan. I’ve got many friends who are also addicted to Supernatural like me. But, we fans in India are at a disadvantage when it comes to meeting our favorite show’s cast and crew. Supernatural conventions aren’t held here and I feel very bad that I can’t meet Jared and Jensen. The nearest convention was in Australia but the travel expenses alone would empty our pockets. So, I was thinking if the SPN crew would have a convention in India. I’ve checked out some online petitions but other than that I don’t know what to do. Is there a way we can contact the SPN crew and request them to have a convention in India? Any way to contact them? I didn’t know where else to get this info so I’m posting my question here. Yeah, sorry about that. Still working on it. The comment section was showing comments from the spoiler thread. It’s not supposed to do that. I did some corrective maintenance, saved the changes, and for some reason it crashed the whole server. Granted, anyone going “Boo!” could crash the server these days. That’s another project though! Anyway, I ended up disabling it and it’s up now, but I’m still doing a bit more tweaking.
Thanks for pointing it out though! A lot of times I don’t know about these mishaps until someone says something.

Hey everybody. I’ve never asked a question or posted anything on here before but I have a question about something that’s been bugging me. How is it That Castiel was able to find Sam and Dean after he returned from purgatory? I thought they were hidden from angels because of the branding on their ribs.
I was wondering the same thing! Plus, even if because of the “profound bond” or prayers Castiel can find Dean, what about ending up on the park bench next to Sam?
I was also wondering how that cursed penny civil war ghost possessed Dean when they have mojo bags? I really looked, but can’t figure that one out.
My third puzzlement, how did Dean’s favorite gun – the model 1911 .45 caliber series 80 (beautifully etched btw) – turn into feathers during LARP, but then be right back in his hand next episode?
Glad to know I wasn’t the only one wondering about it. Unfortunately, I sometimes let those little things that contravene the rules they’ve established bother me a little too much. My sister thinks that Naomi may have something to do with putting Castiel back with Sam and Dean. That she has some kind of mojo that can find them and sent him to them. It bothers me that Sam and Dean seem not to have noticed what we have. Especially since they’ve begun to suspect something is weird about his behaviour. They’re usually pretty good at noticing things out of the ordinary.
This is REALLY belated, Teresa and Tanyafrog, I just saw the question. I think Dean was fixed when Castiel healed him in SS and Sam got a “healed” of everything when Cas pulled him from the cage. He wouldn’t have needed to put them on again because the angels were no longer looking for them. I don’t know if this is true but it seems likely, given that we’ve seen Cas find them multiple times since then in seasons 6, 7 and 8.
Teresa, I’ve got a theory for the LARP episode. When Charlie stabbed the book all of the fairys magic reversed: the sword turned into a prop, Sam stopped getting strangled by the metal suit. So it would follow that the feathers would turn back into guns. Yes?

Hi Alice, I have a suggestion. If it’s possible, it would be good to have a hide/show responses button on each comment. I sometimes find it hard to work out who’s replying to whom and being able to hide or show the responses might make it easier.
Thanks for the suggestion Lynx! The developer of the program I use, JComments, is looking at ways to improve the tree structure with the comments. He has pointed out that the hide/show responses that other programs use take a big hit on the database in terms of performance and slows down the site. So I’ll keep looking for ways to make that easier, but I’m hoping we’ll be able to do something like that in the future.
I have a “General Question” about Purgatory. I am confused once again.
So monsters don’t have souls, right? So their bodies go to Purgatory? But Benny put his ?soul? into Dean’s arm to escape? Dean’s body was in Purgatory. What exactly was in P of monsters? Castiel’s vessel was there. But Benny’s ?red light? was put into Dean’s body.

I’m not sure it was ever established that monsters don’t have souls. I know when a human goes to Hell, they have a soul but it gets burned away over hundreds of years. I’m not sure they’ve ever said what happens with monsters.
Benny used to be human once and was turned, so it’s very possible he does have a soul. That’s why he was able to travel with Dean. I’m not sure about monsters created by the mother.
I’m not sure that’s giving you a great answer, but hopefully it helps!
I believe it’s canon that monsters have souls. S06 was all about taking the souls of monster from Purgatory for power.

Hello Alice, I am having a little trouble posting. I was logged in and it kept telling me to put in my name. Then I got spontaneously unlogged!
That’s a “quirk” we’ll say of the commenting system. Instead of it telling you that your session timed out, it gives that message instead. It’s confusing, I know. It’s a problem I’ve always hoped to address, but haven’t been able to yet. This site is going to have a massive upgrade and redesign come June, so I’m hoping some of these system quirks will finally get fixed. Hopefully it’ll fix all these damned 500 errors too.
Whenever you get that message, copy whatever you have posted, close the browser, reopen, log back in and paste your work in the comments section again. You’re good to go! Also, anytime you write a long post, copy your work before posting. I recommend that for any site (it’s a habit I’ve gotten into) because web servers are persnickety. Ours especially has an awful temper these days!

This is for reviewer/ opinion writers for the winchester family business. What do you think of the continuity of season 8 so far? I mean as of today’s episodes, or season 8 in general, there seems to be some confusion and inconstiency more so in season 8 than any other seasons. Do you think this is true? if so, is this intentionally or just poor writing.Theres only 3 episodes left. Season 8 doesn’t seem to follow previous season established canon.. Just wanted your thoughts

I can put those in a section in Archive Archives. I really don’t have that many, just ten. I’ve been horrible at updating them of late. If you have any suggestions of ones you want on there, I can add those. I’m looking for whole blocks of dialogue rather than a simple quote.
Anyway, select Article Archives in the vertical menu at the top left hand side of each page. At the bottom, you should see Quotes underneath News and Announcements. They are already in the monthly archives I think, but they vary across month.

Maybe that’s just me. I’ll shut up now.

I have a silly question regarding something that I have now seen in two episodes of SPN. The first time I noticed this was in Season One “Home”.
When Dean wants to communicate the number three, he holds up his pinkie, his ring finger and his middle finger while holding his pointer finger pressed down against his thumb. It’s identical to the hand gesture I would do to communicate “OK”.
I find that quite unusual for an American born actor to do. If you ever saw the movie “Inglourious Basterds” then you will understand the significance of why this gesture usually is associated with Eastern European peoples.
Does anyone have any idea how Jensen Ackles came to embrace this way of signifying the number three?
Hi. I replied to you before, but it must have gotten lost. Jensen played baseball growing up. The umpire signals “3 balls” with that gesture. So he probably learned it there. Hope this answer stays here until you read it!
The upgrade is really nice. I am having a real issue staying logged in. It used to be that when I logged in and told the site to remember me that I stayed logged in pretty much no matter what, unless I deleted cookies. I could leave the site, come back in and I’d still be logged in. Now it’s hit or miss. I go to comment after I’ve been off the site for a while and I find out I’m logged out and I have to log back in to comment. If this is how it is, I will try to remember to log in whenever I want to comment, but if it can be changed that would be great. Mac running OSX10.6.8 on Firefox 21.
I hate to bug you because you have put so much work into this. I really do appreciate all the time and effort you put into keeping the site up. It’s not that big a deal about staying logged in, just a minor note.
Hey there, I’m glad you like the upgrade. Visually it’s been good, but behind the scenes, it’s been somewhat of a total nightmare!
I hear you about the login problem. Actually, that is exactly the thing that keeps crashing the database. Our site hits the maximum memory allowed too fast, the database crashes, and the user session table gets corrupted. We have to clear it out in order to get the site back up. It’s happening several times a day. Our new provider has done very little to help except to tell us to buy more memory, but I don’t think that’s it. So we’ve been researching and messing with settings, on our own. I’m hoping this won’t take too much longer, because as an admin it’s a pain to repair the user session table multiple times a day. It usually happens when I’m sleeping!
I hope I didn’t snow you with too much technical stuff! I am very sorry for the trouble the site has been having, and thanks for reporting the problem. If anything else is going wrong that you notice, please don’t hesitate to report it here.

Hi Leah! I just posted a message under percysowner’s post giving full technical explanation as to why people aren’t staying logged it. Bottom line, every time the database crashes (which is several times a day) the user sessions have to be wiped out. We’re trying to figure out what’s going wrong, but that’s the bottom line. Hopefully, once we stop database crashes, the user sessions will be good too. Thanks for reporting the problem, and if you have any other issues, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

I don’t know how to up load gifs…anyone help
1) Get the image info. Make sure it ends with .gif and doesn’t have a size description or anything else after the .gif
2)Make sure it doesn’t have an s at the end of ‘http’
(usually you can just remove that info from from the url and the gif will work.
3) Click on the image box above (5th box from left)
4) Paste the url. Should work ok. I tried it for the gif below and it worked fine first go…

Women of Letters Podcast: Hi Sweetondean, I have been really enjoying your podcasts over the past few weeks. They are so much fun and are really professional and you guys clearly love the show so much.
I have downloaded the podcasts and listen to them with earphones in and I was wondering if you are aware of the background noise issue? When you yourself are talking there is a whole lot of noise that goes on with your microphone – the last episode sounded like loud breathing and in the background really faint it sounds like, I dunno, a football match? It might be an echo? It is really noticeable because it doesn’t happen when Jules is talking and it really doesn’t seem to be anything either of you are doing – it is odd!
Sorry to sound like I am complaining, just thought you might like to know…

Well, we have a con page. It’s on our Fandom Page. People have been posting their con questions there. Or, do you mean a thread of questions to ask at conventions? I could open one of those up on the Fandom Page with the other Con threads. I keep those on the Fandom Page so that they’re easily visible and don’t get buried like regular articles.

Thanks! The old way by category was causing system errors, so I needed a new lookup tool. Glad you liked what I selected. I’ll eventually have a lookup by category too (like the old way) and articles by author too. For now, on each author’s page, a list of their articles shows under the profile.

Thanks for letting me know Leah, but I am aware of that one. I need to fix the module that lists those comments. Currently, it’s causing our front page to load 3 times slower than everything else and it’s raising red flags with Google. They don’t like slow loading pages! I’m hoping it’ll be back soon, otherwise I might have to move it to it’s own page.

Thanks Nitewoman7. It hasn’t been the easiest upgrade that’s for sure. It was outright painful. After a summer of working out very serious issues though, it’s finally stable (for the most part). Our real test will be when the new season starts. We are really dying for that day to come!

Hi E! This is the right place and it’s a great question.
We use JComments and apparently hackers have found a way to get through their security. It’s so bad, that you should see the amount of spam on the JComments forum! JComments doesn’t have the flexibility to let me change Captcha options or do better security without some impressive hacking on my part (I’m just not that good!)
We are using a different commenting system on TV For The Rest of Us that has far better security and gives me many options for filtering spam. After investigating all our options, I’ve decided we are switching the Winchester Family Business to the same system as TVFTROU. We are going to have to do this upgrade ASAP.
This weekend I’m going to have to shut down the comments for a few hours (or maybe even a day if things go bad), while we convert our old comments. The comment archive is HUGE, so it might take a while. It’s possible I’ll change the commenting system over first and restore the comment history later. We’re still working out all the steps.
We had trouble last weekend and were shut down by our provider because of excessive spamming on Contact Us (a problem I fixed), so we don’t want that kind of trouble again. Bear with us for a few more days and it’ll all get better. If you’d like to see what the new commenting system looks like, check it out on TVFTROU. It’s pretty cool:

hey guys, i totally love your webpage. i just came across it wen i was searching for some supernatural con stories of fans and after reading some of the stories here it made me feel so happy. i know i can never go to one of these cons as i am a student and from India, it is quite impossible to figure out con dates n places and the total expense of travel and so on. so it just makes me feel very happy going through all the stories of these amazing fans. i wish one day i get to go to these cons and meet the actors and especially eric kripke for creating such an awesome show, who have been such am inspiration to me and my most source of happiness. finding supernatural was the one great thing i have done that i feel proud of and being a part of the spn fandom is great on its own. its just that not many supernatural fans can be found in India, i mean they are just not easy to spot and am trying my best to make my friends and people i know watch the show. i just want to feel included in this amazing fandom 🙂 thanks for letting me share my thoughts.
Just an issue with the site – I tried to register (so I don’t have to post as a guest every time to comment) but after clicking “submit” on the register page, it kept telling me my cookies were turned off. I double checked (I don’t disable cookies anyway…ever) and cookies are enabled.

I use Google Chrome, but I just tried it in Firefox (at your suggestion to try a different browser) and had the same problem. Here’s the error I got from Firefox:

Hi, I was wondering if anyone bought a t-shirt from the Supernatural Design Challenge? I ordered mine on May 13 and it’s now July 2nd, and still no t-shirt! I sent them an e-mail on June 11th, got a response saying that it would be shipped any day now, but nope, nothing. So I sent another e-mail on June 30th, and no response. Of course the amount has been taken from my credit card as soon as I ordered. Did I just get conned, or is this the real deal?

Naturally, there’s a story behind it! I’m afraid I had to trash the old user profile/registration system. It was causing way too many problems and then it went and broke registrations. I had to restore the old core system to get registrations back online, but that core system doesn’t allow avatars to be loaded on the front end (nor does it do much with user profiles).
I told the commenting system a long time ago to use these monster avatars when the user didn’t have one loaded but it never worked. It started working as soon as I uninstalled the old system! I’ve lost all the old avatars though. I loaded mine through the admin backend, but I’m probably the only person that has one. We are doing an upgrade next month and I hope to have a new user profile system in place by then. In the meantime, if this avatar is annoying you too much, send me the one you want loaded and I can load it on the back end.

Is there any way for me to set the “comments” of a particular thread to all load at once each time, rather than a partial amount, constantly requiring to hit the “load more” button? First-world male problem, I know, but on topics that get a lot of lengthy responses [i](such as your “The Things We Left Behind” review)[/i], it gets a little tedious – especially after someone posts a new comment, and you have to go through the reloading process again, and again, and again.
My biggest gripe is that after 2 or 3 “load more’s”, it sits in a spin and does nothing, requiring me to refresh the page and start again.

Hi samanddean10, YES, we are happy to review articles written by people other than our staff! We publish them as “Guest Articles”. The most recent article was just posted this week!
How it works: You write an article about any aspect of Supernatural. It could be about plot lines, characters, your observations about the show, outside events (e.g. conventions), etc. The article can be of any length – our shortest articles are about 500 words, with our longest being about 8000 words (I usually break these longer articles into several parts). The content must represent official canon only, and must be respectful, i.e., it cannot contain swearing, insults, political or religious commentaries, etc. When you are ready, you send the article to Alice or myself by hitting the “contact us” link (on the Contact Us page). We will then start communicating through emails. We review the article for writing quality, adherence to our standards, and relevance of the content. If everything checks out, we determine a spot in our posting schedule! If something needs to be improved, we will give you feedback.
If you have ideas bouncing around in your head, I strongly encourage you to write them down!! Play with the piece for a while – write, edit, edit, edit, put it away for a while, then reread, write and edit again. Repeat this process as much as necessary until you are happy with the piece! This is how I got started with the site! I was so moved by my first convention experience, I wrote an essay about it and sent it to Alice (you can check it out as the first two articles on my author page!) Good luck!

Hi Guys – Love the site – just a GUN question on the show – When Dean is shown close up loading his hand gun he always taps the bullet caseing before he loads it into the gun ?? Not knowing a thing about guns is this necessary or a quirk of Dean’s Thanks ( I’m just fasinated see it alot and have been wondering ) Jen

Not that I know anything about guns (I’ve never fired one in my life, and hope I never do…) but the action Dean uses as he loads a clip into the gun is called “tapping” and ensures that the bullets are properly aligned in the magazine before loading. It supposedly helps keep the gun from jamming as it’s fired. It’s something everyone is supposed to do when loading a gun and isn’t just a quirk of Dean’s. It’s actually a bit of realism, showing that the show has done it’s homework about firearms. Hope that helps! 🙂

It’s good to hear from you and it is wonderful that you are interested in The WFB!
All of our writers “auditioned” for a spot on the staff. Either Alice (our Editor-in-Chief) was already familiar with the writer’s on-line work, or the person submitted several articles as a “guest writer”. Alice and I then assess if your perspective or writing style would fill a gap in our rotation. If you are asked to be on staff, you are required to write a new article each week. Each writer works with me (as Managing Editor) to generally agree on the type of article they will write. I often offer suggestions, but most of the time we each have to come up with our own subject ideas. We are all volunteers, i.e. we are not paid. If you remain a guest writer, you can choose your own topics and write whenever you have free time.
If you are still interested, the best way to get started is to just start writing! Think of a Supernatural topic you would like to discuss – it could be a different kind of episode review, a character study, a commentary on the season, etc. Write it up, then comment here again that you are ready. I’ll connect with you via email and you submit your article to me. I’ll review it for our publishing standards (e.g. respectful, interesting, good writing, etc.) then if everything works out, we post it!
Hope that at least gives you enough information to get started. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I am a newer Supernatural fan and haven’t had time to make other friends in the fandom. I will be attending the DC convention in July (2015) and was wondering if there are any good ways to get in touch with fans who are attending. I plan to go by myself and I don’t want to feel like a total weirdo.
We used to have a page exactly for that. Fans would post their desire to meetup at various conventions and I know several meetings have happened! Sadly, when I took down the Fandom Page during our latest upgrade, I never restored that thread, until now!

I love this site so much, it’s such a well thought out, thoughtful, and through look into both, Supernatural and all of it’s wonderful fans. I’m not exactly sure where to go or whom to ask about this, but I figured your site might be a good start. I’ve been really moved and personally touched by Jared and Jensen’s “Always Keep Fighting Campaign”. Particularly, many of the supportive actions and messages that fans have communicated to both young men, during many of the recent Supernatural Conventions. They’ll be coming to my home town of Minneapolis this August 21st-23rd. I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone or anywhere I might get in contact with people who might want to do something similar for the up coming Minneapolis convention?

I will be attending MNCon. I hail from the Greater portion of Minnesota, so I’m kinda remote. I don’t know any chapters to work with, but if perhaps Carry On or Random Acts will be there in some capacity they might have an idea of something going on. That being said, I embroidered a few AFK banners that I’m hoping to get people to take selfies with at the Con that will be put into a gallery at a later date and shared with J2 and the #SPNFamily at large to show just how this campaign has made a difference to so many. Hi Jen! From everything I’ve heard, season 12 is a sure thing. Supernatural is still the 3rd highest show on the CW in terms of ratings. It’s a very popular show out there and high profile for the network. It makes great money for Warner Brothers. Jared and Jensen still want to do it. I’m not exactly sure if the writers room and production office is as stable, but the actors are all on board.
I assure that Supernatural wouldn’t go out without a farewell season. The CW would milk that promotional opportunity any way they could. Knowing that, a season 12 is a done deal. Supernatural is a very expensive show to make though and the longer it goes the more expensive it gets. The speed of a renewal announcement may hinge on budget negotiations for the next season. The “last season” announcement is always a possibility. If that doesn’t happen next season then 13 is a real possibility, although it could be a short one. You never know!

Don’t worry about that error at the top. That does happen periodically with the Discussion Page. It means I have to do some maintenance on the backend with our caching. It causes strange things to happen, like logging in and using some of the features (voting maybe?). You just need to close the page and come back. That usually works.
As for voting, if you refresh the page you can vote again. I was able to do it multiple times. But yes, it does only work once per session.
