Supernatural Moves To Fridays May 28th
Per the CW press release below. Moonlight repeats will air with The Vampire Diaries starting June 3rd, and The CW confirms Supernatural goes to Fridays on May 28th, following Smallville at 9pm. It will likely stay in that slot for its sixth season this fall. Upfronts are in a few weeks and that’s when the official fall schedule will be announced.

May 6, 2010 (Burbank, CA) Summer just got a lot scarier on The CW. The network will air the acclaimed drama MOONLIGHT on Thursday nights beginning June 3. MOONLIGHT will air from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET, following encore episodes of the first season of the The CW’s hit drama, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
On MOONLIGHT, Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin) is a captivating, charming and immortal private investigator from Los Angeles, who defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was “bitten” 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon). Forever 30 years of age, Mick’s as handsome and charismatic as the day he was “turned,” and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef (Jason Dohring), a hedge fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. One night years ago, a single act of kindness changed Mick when he saved a young girl’s life, making him want to be a better vampire. I dunno. Alice, you saw the writing on the wall a while ago and coupled with the announement of Betwixt being filmed and plans to pair it with VD, this really is not news for those of us who visit your site.
Personally, I don’t care what day of the week SuperN airs, just so long as I know when that is so I can watch it. 🙂
I’m not upset about SPN’s likely move to Friday nor do I think they’re going to pull it this summer. Frankly, if anything they’ll give SVL a break since it ran dual season 9 episodes for a couple of months at least during this season and thus it could use a break. With its renewal already announced and talks from the writers/producers that there is ‘excitement’ for seasons past 6, I think SPN is just fine…not that I won’t be doing my writing best (or worst as case may be) to keep the love alive.
I’m very excited that there may be a 6th season for Supernatural! Don’t know what I would do without Sam & Dean for my viewing pleasure. Equally excited to hear that the CW finally picked up Moonlight! Life is good!!!! 😀

I personally don’t like the move of SPN to Fridays. So many times when a show moves to Friday it just means eventual death. You know, move a show to Friday where there aren’t as many people watching, because you know, it’s Friday – date night, party night, end of week night. Viewership may or may not go down and after a year (if the viewership numbers do go down) it gives the network a good reason to cancel the show (all because it was moved to Friday). I know the CW has talked a lot about how much they love this show, but do they really? They rarely advertise the show – you hardly see print ads and then during other CW shows you hardly ever see an advertisement for SPN. (I watch a couple other CW shows and have yet to see promos for SPN during that show, except for Vampire Diaries during the last 15 minutes advertising the next show.) So, I ask again, is the CW really fully behind this show? I know we are guaranteed for a 6th season, but I would like to see SPN go another 1 to 2 years beyond that. And the move to Friday, I don’t know…….just worries me.
Smallville was moved to Friday…and we all know what happened then.
On the good side, I LOVE Moonlight and I think Alex O’Loughlin is the fifth hottest guy ever after Jensen and Jared and Mitch Hewer and this guy at my school. It’s a really good show–vampires before vampires became passe–and I’d recomend everyone watch it.
I’m cool with it! Dany, hee, you’re right–we’ll be more productive on Fridays now! It makes sense to move it, I think the audience overlap is definitely better with Smallville than VD. I hope the season long separation doesn’t decrease the retention rates too much. My guess is with such a loyal fanbase Fridays can’t be much worse than the Thursday night doom slot–guess we’ll see.
I never watched Moonlight regularly but I remember seeing a couple of episode and liking it… it didn’t last long before it was cancelled, right, but its fans were really upset? That’s what I seem to remember…
I’m confident Supernatural will be fine on Friday, so the move doesn’t concern me. Given that the plan was to end the show after five seasons, anything beyond that is really a bonus to me.
Oh, Moonlight. What a tease to air re-runs. I loved this show and it never got a fair chance. ElenaM, you’re right, the fans were quite upset – there were several campaigns in a effort to save the show, if I recall, and I think on of them involved the blood bank. Alex O’Laughlin is a wonderful vampire – by which I mean “yum!”
What is irritating about Moonlight is that if it had come out one year later, during the Twilight craze, it likely would have survived. Instead, it came out the year of the writer’s strike as a mid-season show. It aired a few episodes, then went off due to the strike, wasn’t advertised/supported by CBS at all and then came back for a few more episodes, then off again and then back for the final four. In the meantime the network execs were looking at each other wondering why it wasn’t doing well…. :roll:: Sorry, rant over. I hate networks that aren’t loyal to their shows in the least and don’t give them a chance.
i am very upset about supernatural being moved to friday night! thursday nights have always been the best night of the week for me since spn started airing in ’05, and the show just won’t be the same if it’s moved up a night. also, as another commenter stated, friday night shows always seem to fail miserably. why CW? why would you do this to all of us loyal spn fans? we love our thursday nights! seriously rethink this, because there really is no reason for the move. c’mon CW!
Fridays in the Fall isn’t the slam dunk now it was two weeks ago.
I don’t know, in the last few days I’ve been getting some conflicting reports. Betwixt (Changelings) isn’t the sure thing people thought it would be two weeks ago. There isn’t a lot of buzz and they need buzz for a show to take over that slot. I’m still trying to find out more info, but Supernatural might be keeping Thursdays after all (not in summer). It’s still way too soon to tell. As soon as I find out, I’ll report.

Conflicting reports, Alice? that is confusing, indeed. I wouldn’t mind the show moving to Fridays, actually, as I could watch it on Saturday then and not having to go to work confused, rattled with emotion or in tears, pretending to be allergic to explain my puffy eyes…
So, until there is an official confirmation of the day the show will be on air, I’ll just wait….
I liked Moonlight, though. Too bad they had only one season. It was a likeable vampire show with potential that was never played out more. Shame.

Betwixt NOT picked up. Supernatural likely keeping Thursdays now. Their spring ratings impressed the network, Betwixt didn’t live up to its buzz. I’ll post more on this later.
Wondered what happened with this. Are they still going Fridays for the summer?
Have you lost your mind? Moving Supernatural to Friday is like attending Church on Mondays. It just isn’t right. And HEY…what happened to tonight’s episode (5.20.2010)? When does the next episode air? I’m beginning to think that CW stands for Cartoon Watchers…………
