The Supernatural star’s participation was perhaps the biggest lingering question about the much-anticipated reunion miniseries, which will consist of four 90-minute episodes.
From TVLine Gilmore Girls: Jared Padalecki Returning as Dean for Netflix Revival
Jared Padelecki is set to return to Netflix’s four-episode Gilmore Girls continuation as Dean, TVLine has confirmed. The Supernatural actor’s casting ensures that the upcoming revival will feature Rory’s three most significant love interests (joining Matt Czuchry’s Logan and Milo Ventimiglia’s Jess).

Padalecki was part of the original series from the pilot, going on to become Rory’s first serious boyfriend and the partner with whom she eventually lost her virginity, despite Dean being married to another woman at the time. The duo were on again/off again for several seasons, with Padalecki making his final appearance in Season 5 before going on to star in another drama — “Supernatural” — for what was then the WB network (now The CW). Now in its eleventh season, Padalecki has been on the fan-favorite show ever since, playing Sam Winchester, who fights demons and paranormal phenomena alongside his brother — also ironically called Dean — played by Jensen Ackles.

The revival is currently shooting and we have no information when it will be released. We also don’t know how many episodes Jared will be in. We will keep an eye on this story and update when we know more. Now, we just have to wait for Sam to become Dean again and then go back to being Sam.
Jared just can’t seem to get away from characters named Dean. Lol
Fun! So great that Supernatural let him do that. I bet it means they have to write him light for a few episodes so he can do both shows. I hope the Supernatural fans are understanding about that, since he must want to do both and the guy has to sleep sometime!
Both shows are produced by Warner Brothers, so I’m sure that helped with ironing out any conflicts. I read that Gilmore Girls is filming through June, so Jared might film his scenes during SPN hiatus. Fingers crossed. I’ve really enjoyed this season so far and don’t want any Sam lite eps.
Oh – that makes sense. They usually finish filming by end of April, so maybe he will film GG in May and June. Plus – I bet with that big cast, he only has to film a day per episode. Not like Supernatural where he is one of 2 stars and needed nearly every day to film.
I’m sure we will get answers from Jared directly at the con this weekend.

Don’t want this to happen again. Dean deserves better than this.
Agreed , did not really like Rory and the only thing I hope is that Dean found more for himself than pining for a spoilt girl.
Never like Rory either. Actually, didn’t like any of the Gilmore Girls. I’d like for Dean to return with a hot girlfriend that he is clearly over the moon for.
Wow, that must be a juggling nightmare schedule wise. Supernatural as a show has always commanded all of the boy’s time. I can see why Jared may be a bit light in several of the middle season episodes. I am glad he’s doing this though, he was on Gilmore Girls for five years, nearly an eternity in the TV world …..(Supernatural’s 11+ years is nearly unheard of and may quite possibly be a record for a genre show), and Jared has expressed his appreciation of what that show did for him on many occasions. He’s a loyal guy and has expressed interest in being on a revival several times. I am glad that he could manage everything. Wouldn’t it be funny to find out that Dean Forester has been hunting monsters in Stars Hollow?
I do not care I did not like Gilmore girls. From the start and I will not watch it again. And I do not think Jard will be back to supernatural again so I am out of supernatural as well. Anyways my thoughts on this matter does not court
I don’t think that Jared is the kind of man who would quit a show in the middle of it’s season; he’s not going anywhere, and he’s certainly not going to quit Supernatural for a four episode mini-series version of Gilmore Girls in which he will have a somewhat minimal role. He’s more loyal than that to Supernatural. I think that you are being an alarmist for no reason.
Your thoughts count as much as anyone, you are just jumping to conclusions that have no basis in fact. Jared isn’t “jumping ship” as you said in another post. It’s a minimal part in a temporary revival of a series that is long gone. Stop watching if you feel you need to but your reasoning is seriously erroneous.
Hey folks. Jared posted a video on his Facebook page today about the new campaign – and also stated he would be going to LA next week to film Gilmore Girls. Since Supernatural is filming episode 18 now, I suspect they worked it out to film the scenes without him on that day or days and get his scenes in on other days. A lot of work for him, doing 2 shows! By the way, for those Brits out there, he also said he would be doing the convention this summer. As several people already pointed out, he will be in Houston for that convention tomorrow. I get tired just thinking of his schedule!
