The Dawn Ostroff Love For Supernatural Continues
As I’m sure just about everyone has seen from Michael Ausiello at EW.com, he had a nice conversation with Dawn Ostroff (president of The CW) yesterday at the CW TCA press event. The TCA (Television Critics Association) Winter Tour is a wonderful annual event for the members of that exclusive club to generate some spring buzz for TV shows as they come back from winter break.
Anyway, as Michael has been able to scoop, season six of Supernatural is looking more and more official. The article is certainly exciting news for a Supernatural fan, but hardly surprising. I’ve been reporting for some time that season six was almost a certainty. However, the issue has never been if season six was happening. The issue has been if Kripke was going to be part of season six. Judging by Ms. Ostroff’s comments yesterday, it sounds like he’s coming on board. Here are my favorite quotes from Ms. Ostroff about our beloved show:
Γ’β¬ΕI had lunch with Eric the other day and heΓ’β¬β’s really excited about the show right now. I think he feels this season has been really satisfying for him. HeΓ’β¬β’s certainly not running out of ideas by any stretch of the imagination.Γ’β¬Β
Γ’β¬ΕThe ratings are up,Γ’β¬Β she says. Γ’β¬ΕWe have more young women coming to the show than ever before. There arenΓ’β¬β’t a lot of shows that you can say are doing better in their fifth year.Γ’β¬Β
One note about the ratings, please keep in mind she’s talking about women 18-34. Overall ratings are down, but then again, overall ratings for everything except The Big Bang Theory are down. It’s down less than all the other CW shows. So everyone, enjoy the love, and it’s time to wildly speculate about season six.

‘There arenΓ’β¬β’t a lot of shows that you can say are doing better in their fifth year.’ – How I love that quote!
From the first episode on I have had the notion of watching one of the most exceptional shows on tv, and it is a very satisfying feeling to be proved right.
Everyone who said this will not be on air for a long time, needs to re-think that statement.
All Hail, Supernatural team – and thanks for this great, great show!
Looks like this week it’s all about congratulating…
Cheers, Jas
Given the poor following CW has, they are not about to give up their Thursday night line up any time soon. Season 6 is not a question mark really….only whether Kripke will stay with the show or not. Everyone there, cast, crew and writers, want a paycheck, and the stars, J&J, are already signed for another year.
It would be good to have Kripke on board, but either way, the show will go on.
This sounds good, no scratch that, this sounds excellent π
I’m all for S6 and I reaaally want EK to stay behind the wheel. I used to have mixed feelings about this (since the looong debate of the 5 year storyline, I wanted them to go out guns blazing) but hey, if it works (and I know they can make it work) then why not?! And 6 seasons would be awesome, more of J&J together onscreen?? BRING IT π
Ps. On a side note Alice, I have an idea for somekinda top10 or top5… How about writers that have written 1 eppie but who you’d love to come back and write another? Or another one, the urban legends/ monsters we’ve had just once you’d like to come back.
Monsters revisited sounds great … I vote Zombie Gordon And The Legion Of Undead Hunters. All together now, ” Graaa … Send more paramedics … ” π
YAY that news has filled me with joy on a very very crappy monday!!!! π π π
who knew that Dawn knew spn exists! sablegreen is right – i read somewhere that vampire diaries and Spn are the 2 top shows on the CW according to the ratings, not to mention that they’ve both just won people’s choice awards – they’d be mad to change the line up.
Like Alice i thought that season 6 was a safe bet but i’ve been hoping and praying that Kripke would stay with his creation. Fingers crossed, touch wood he will. In Kripke we trust after all! π
Season 6 only with Kripke, please. Don’t get me wrong, I like all the writer’s work, but I think Kripke is the one who knows where this whole story is going.
About this one-time-mentioned things: I played Wii-Bowhunting last night, and think to have heard someone (!) at some point mentioning that bowhunting is an important skill. Ring a bell? Okay, but … has anyone seen these someones actually bowhunting ever? Or am I missing something?
Alice, I’m sure you’ll keep us up to date with News, thanks so much for this info!!!
Freebird, I really don’t think Kripke won’t sign up for s6. But his myth arc will end in May. That he has already stated, BUT (again as he stated) no reason a new arc can’t start in s6. Also he stated he has no stortage of ideas for SPN, so I think he’ll be back.
Yeah bowhunting is an important skill, though I don’t hunt, my brother, and brothers-in-law do, and they all use a bow.
Freebird, are you asking if it was ever shown that the Winchesters used their bows? They did, in “Dead Man’s Blood”.
If that wasn’t what you asked, sorry!
Sablegreen, I think you have a point with this myth arc ending in May. But I’m wondering, if they would start a new one in season 6 just to play it out for one season only, that sounds kinda unreal, for in that case (with a new general myth arc) they’d have to do more seasons. I mean, why start a new one just to cover one more season, right? I hope I’m making sense here.
Bevie, yes, exactly. Dean’s quote just imposed itself on me while I was trying to hit the target on the screen (love that Wii), but I just couldn’t recall ever seeing the boys actually using bows. Will rewatch Dead Man’s Blood now, thanks a lot!
Freebird, your making perfect sense. And no, if the series is extended, they can do an arc for one season…but who said SPN will only go one more season?
Just imagine, Sablegreen, more than 5 seasons, with a completely new myth arc after season 5 finale. Now that’s, I think, a delicate issue. The myth arc so far is so overwhelming, the story so incredible, that it would be a really hard job to top that. But with the same cast and crew I believe it can be done. Dudes, that would be sooo awsome
But I’ll settle with one more season, too. Having only 22 episodes do develop a story can be exciting, too.
I think a sixth season could easily be done. The best comparison off the top of my head would be seasons 5/6 of Buffy, going from a big bad who COULD destroy the world to a decidedly less threatening story arc (Dark Willow notwithstanding). As long as the *stories* are good, one can certainly tell them post-Devil.
I heard Jensen and Jared were only contracted in for one more season so if season 6 does go ahead they’re tied in for that but after that will everyone want to continue?
