Supernatural’s Mini Marathons
ElenaM’s comment that she’ll sometimes watch a “Long Arm of the Law” marathon made me think about other themes for grouping episodes. So, starting with ElenaM’s suggestion, here are some more. And with over 90 episodes to pick from, there must be plenty of others, so suggestions please? There’s still two weeks of Hellatus for us to get through, you know.
Long Arm of the Law
Pilot, Skin, The Usual Suspects, Nightshifter, Folsom Prison Blues, Jus in Bello. (Minor additions might be Hookman, in which Sam and Dean get arrested, and Are You There, God? to complete Hendrikson’s story.)
John Winchester
In The Beginning, Pilot, Something Wicked, Home, Asylum, Scarecrow, Shadow, Dead Man’s Blood, Salvation, Devil’s Trap, In My Time of Dying, All Hell Breaks Loose Part II.
Salt and Burn
Hookman, Asylum, Route 666, Provenance, Roadkill, Hollywood Babylon, Folsom Prison Blues, The Magnificent Seven, After School Special, The Real Ghostbusters. (Also “Hunter’s Funerals”: Everybody Loves a Clown, The Magnificent Seven, Jump The Shark.)
The flashback series/young Sam and Dean
In the Beginning, Pilot, Something Wicked, A Very Supernatural Christmas, After School Special, When The Levee Breaks. (There’s also a minor flashback in All Hell Breaks Loose I, which mostly duplicates the Pilot.)
Yellow Eyed Demon and daughter
In The Beginning, Pilot, Scarecrow, Shadow, Dead Man’s Blood, Salvation, Devil’s Trap, In My Time of Dying, All Hell Breaks Loose I and II, Are You There, God?, Sympathy For the Devil, Abandon All Hope. (Note From Alice: I think Lucifer Rising is missing!)
Dean’s left shoulder needs to be kissed better
Born Under a Bad Sign, Jus In Bello, Lazarus Rising, I Know What You Did Last Summer. (Sam’s left shoulder needs to be kissed better: Bad Day At Black Rock.)
Alternate Realities
What Is and What Should Never Be, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Mystery Spot, It’s a Terrible Life, The End, Changing Channels. (Minor additions: Dean talking to Castiel in Are You There, God? and while fishing at the start of The Rapture, and to Uriel in Heaven and Hell.)
Hell and Gone
In My Time of Dying, Crossroad Blues, All Hell Breaks Loose II, Sin City, Time Is On My Side, No Rest for the Wicked, Lazarus Rising, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heaven and Hell, Family Remains, On the Head of A Pin.
Sam Interrupted
Born Under a Bad Sign, What Is and What Should Never Be, It’s A Terrible Life, The End.
Vampires and vampire hunters
Dead Man’s Blood, Bloodlust, Hunted, Bad Day At Black Rock, Fresh Blood.
People are Crazy
The Benders, Nightmare, Simon Said, Hunted, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Family Remains.
Serious Spellwork
Faith, Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, Hollywood Babylon, Malleus Maleficarum, Time Is On My Side, Criss Angel Is a Douchebag, The Curious Case of Dean Winchester.
The Paisley Peril
Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, Croatoan, Hunted, Hollywood Babylon, What Is And What Should Never Be, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Lazarus Rising, Metamorphosis, Sex and Violence, Free To Be You and Me, Changing Channels. (How many does this list leave out? I can’t have been paying enought attention yet.)
Well, someone had to go there
Route 666, Heart, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heaven and Hell, Sex and Violence.
Hahaha this is wonderful, what a great idea. the Paisley Peril has it’s own category!! Woot! Love the shoulder needs to be kissed thing, so true!
I think I have a few more theme suggestions, but I don’t really have time to think about what eps are under it right now..
-I have Daddy issues
-Love ’em and leave ’em (or kill ’em) -Route666, Provenance Heart, etc.
-I kissed a demon/angel/any supernatural thing and I liked it!
-The boys getting ass-whooped
-X-files references? (I shouldn’t be up at this hour..)
-Psychic wonder
These are great!!! I’m definitely going to be watching more themed marathons. Glad to be of assistance 😉 Love Narcissus’ marathon ideas too–LOL (for love ’em and leave ’em, I’ll throw in Hollywood Babylon & Sex and Violence). The hamster wheel in my head’s spinning again, never a good thing. Like Narcissus, I’ll have to think of complete episode lists later, but I’ll start with a few off the top of my head…
-Brotherly love (Pilot, Hell House, Tall Tales etc.–anything where the heckling stands out :D)
-Happy Holidays (Monster Movie & It’s the Great Pumpkin, Very Supernatural Christmas, & hopefully soon My Bloody Valentine)
-Divine Prophecy (Monster at the End of this Book, Lucifer Rising, Sympathy for the Devil, Real Ghostbusters… more to come?)
-Angels & Demons (eps where there’s an actual fight, even if off camera)
-Terminal Condition (Limited to Winchesters, dead or very nearly. Ok, I included visions and facsimiles too. Pilot, Skin, Faith, Nightmare, Devil’s Trap, IMTOD, ELAC, AHBL1&2, Mystery Spot, NRFTW, In the Beginning, Yellow Fever, Wishful Thinking, SFTD, The End, Curious Case. Whew–nothing mini about that, it’s a full 16 episodes assuming I haven’t missed stuff)
-Writer-based minithons– “The Best of Ben Edlund” and so on
-Dean Winchester Stuffs His Face, coupled with Sam Winchester Eats Something (the Dean part of this could get really long, what with all the cheeseburgers and pie… )
-The Hardy Boys Go To The Hospital: Something Wicked, IMTOD, Bedtime Stories, On the Head of a Pin, Sympathy for the Devil (& maybe 5×2-3 for the compulsively thorough), Changing Channels
I know, I shouldn’t be up at this hour either.
Faellie, hell, yeah, this was great fun! Dear lady of the law, are your arms that long…? (bet you heard that a thousand times…. Lame…) 😮

As they announced very, very, very much snow for this weekend, I plan to get enveloped in cuddly warm blankets and borrow my neighbour’s cute dog, a huge can of hot chocolate with me (sugar shock, anyone?) and do a Supernatural marathon. The plans I had with my loved ones this weekend didn’t work out, so I’ll have time for myself (which is highly appreciated, as this first week of the year has been quite taxing job-wise)
Especially loved your ‘people are crazy’ and ‘Dean’s shoulder needs to get kissed better’ (and Sam’s, of course) – categories…
Well, let’s see, what could by my suggestions?
‘Top of the food chain’ – examining Sam and Dean’s eating habits (or no-eating-habits, poor Sammy rarely eats on screen. Why’s that? He knows how to hold a fork.) :Mystery Spot, Hollywood Babylon, Tall Tales, What Is and What Should Never Be, Changing Channels, et al
‘Love Kills’ – Heart, Pilot, Sex & Violence, Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things
‘Miss Thigh-Gone’ – Poetic monsters and other delicious paranormal riff raff: Scarecrow, Hookman, Shadow, Born Under A Bad Sign, Crossroad Blues, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Faith, On A Head Of A Pin, Houses Of The Holy et al
‘Our daily wound give us…’ – Prepare your first-aid-bag to take care of our fave guys: Jus In Bello, Bad Day At Black Rock, Devil’s Trap, All Hell Breaks Loose, Shadow, When The Levee Breaks, Mystery Spot (you might wanna stock up on coffins instead), No Rest For The Wicked (and mops, lots of them), Jump The Shark, On The Head Of A Pin, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Born Under A Bad Sign et al
Can’t come up with more right now, but as the day goes by, some more might come to me…
Great stuff, Faellie, you put my mind out to graze during my tiny breaks at work between patients and made me giggle (it’s a blessing that my door is that thick).
thanks, Jas
The Paisley Peril has it’s own section – YES! that made me laugh so much (again in the office) – damn it now i’m going to be thinking catagories all day.
It’s also snowy where I am and like Jasminka I intend to have a spn weekend! And these lists give a some ideas about which episodes I want to watch.
Off the top of my head, with a couple of episodes given as examples of the catagory how about:
* the impala section, notible appearances of the third main character – changing channels, children shouldn’t play with dead things etc
* phwoar episodes, not that the boys aren’t always good looking but sometimes there’s that little bit extra – bad day at black rock, hell house, folsom prison blues, changing channels (you know you liked the scrubs!) etc
* Heartbreaking episodes, tissues at the ready – OTHOAP, the end etc
random note – does anyone else think this emoticon looks a little like our very own Ben Edlund? :ugeek:
Me again – this just occured to me – still bored at work!
The trickster trilogy – Tall Tales, Mystery Spot and Changing Channels.
I hope trickster/gabe will be back again *i have a feeling he will* but until then i like the title
just noticed in my first post with the impala i meant bloodlust not cspwdt.
also heartbreaking episodes – abandon all hope – i cried buckets, proper sam snotty mess crying too.
I’d just like to add to the list of Dean’s left shoulder needing to be kissed. Pa Bender branded it for him with a white hot poker!
Wonder why it is always his left shoulder?
Anyway, would love to kiss it for him anytime. 😉
Bethany, a Tearjerkers marathon–love it, we’ve had so many!
“Love Kills”– on our show, no doubt, especially if you’re with Sam Winchester.
Faellie, thanks again–I’m clearly having way too much punchy fun with this.
Here’s a few more:
Kids Are Alright: Dead in the Water, Home, Something Wicked, Everybody Loves A Clown, Playthings, The Kids Are Alright, Bedtime Stories, It’s the Great Pumpkin, The Rapture, etc. (there’s more, the list is getting too long!)
Geek Love: Bugs, Hell House, Simon Said, Hollywood Babylon, Nightshifter, AHBL 1&2, Ghostfacers, Wishful Thinking
Shapeshifters: Skin, Nightshifter, Monster Movie
Thanks for commenting, everyone, and for the suggestions. I’ve taken notes for future use!
Bevie, thanks for remembering to add The Benders to the “Dean’s left shoulder” category. Branded, shot, shot, burned and dislocated is a pretty heavy toll in 4 years. I’ve no idea either why it’s always the left side.
You are obviously all a bunch of dirty enablers, because I’m now coming up with new categories too –
Dean has heart trouble: Faith, Devil’s Trap, In My Time of Dying, Folsom Prison Blues, Are You There, God? and Yellow Fever.
Black eyed heroes: Dream a Little Dream of Me, It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester, Lucifer Rising, Good God Y’All.
How could I forget Ed Brewer? Loved that guy! I’m adding “Monster Movie” to the Geek Love list. Faellie, how about Curious Case for “Dean has heart trouble”? Angina, a full-on coronary, and a resolution to lay off the bacon cheeseburgers 😀 I love this show. OK. Must. Stop. Now. Thanks again!
ElenaM, you are right on both counts- Curious Case is a Dean heart trouble ep, and this approach to lists is strangely addictive. I was just wondering about a”Tears of Sam and Dean” list, and then decided it would be far to long to qualify as “mini”!
Ha– know what you mean! Yeah, “Winchesters Die” is long and daunting enough, imagine “Winchesters Cry”… 😆
Er … That’s Seasons 1-5 and counting, right? 😀
winchesters cry……… erm yeah you might as well barricade yourself in with the TV there would be nothing mini about that marathon.
