Best “Kick it in the Ass” Moment in Supernatural Season 13
Winner
“Let the Good Times Roll”
Lucifer’s Death
Runner-up
“Exodus”
Sam leaving Lucifer behind in AU World.
Editor’s Choice
“Funeralia”
Dean’s intense (and long!) fight with Rowena’s bodyguard
Another unconventional choice, I know. The reason I pick this one is because the fight choreography was brilliant! I was engaged with every bit of it. I often watch “Arrow” and wonder why “Supernatural” doesn’t put as much into it’s fight choreography at times. This answered that question. They can and they did.
Best Guest Star in Season 13
Winner
“The Scorpion and the Frog”
Christie Burke – Alice aka “Smash”
Runner-up
“Scoobynatural”
The Scooby Gang
Editor’s Choice
“Scoobynatural”
The Scooby Gang
For the record, it was Fred that won me over for this award when finding out ghosts were real. “My life is meaningless!” Okay fine, maybe it was when Shaggy broke his arm. “What? That’s not — I have jumped out of a biplane in a museum and was fine! How did this happen?” Or there’s Velma giving into an opportunity just about every one of us wishes we had:
So yeah, it’s hard to pass them up. Massive kudos to the animators and guest writers for knowing their material.
Best Ending to an Episode in Season 13
Winner
“Scorpion and the Frog”
Runner-Up
“Beat the Devil”
Editor’s Choice
“Scoobynatural”
The only episode of the season where I had a smile on my face at the end of the episode. It was an actual Scooby Doo ending! That was enough for me. Ascot for the win!
Worst Ending to an Episode in Supernatural Season 13
Winner
“Patience”
Runner-up
“Wayward Sisters”
A razor-thin Second Runner-up
‘Let the Good Times Roll”
Editor’s Choice
Tie – “Wayward Sisters” and “Let the Good Times Roll”
Both episodes had me spitting mad at the end. Okay, so did “Beat the Devil” but since that didn’t make the nominees list, I’ll have to let that pass. “Wayward Sisters” was moving in the right direction, with Claire learning a valuable lesson, until she jumped into a poor imitation of Dean Winchester and talked about killing the thing that killed Kaia. Great, warm moment over, more eyerolls for an annoying character that apparently didn’t learn anything after all. Then the hooded creature came out of the rift and it’s Kaia? Ugh, that story was not interesting to begin with. If that was the premise of the series, I definitely wouldn’t be watching. Sounds like The CW agreed with me.
As for “Let the Good Times Roll,” it was just too sloppy for words. We finally get a Michael/Lucifer showdown and it didn’t even destroy the building that they fought in, let alone the earth. That was a season finale? By the time we got the blue eyes and the laughable “freeze frame,” a big joke in season six’s “The French Mistake,” I wondered if that was the giving up point for the creative team. This makes me very skeptical for season 14.
Best Quote in Supernatural Season 13
Winner
“Exodus”
“Are you good? Then you got nothin’ to apologize for.” – Dean to Sam
Runner-up
“Unfinished Business”
“Dean, we’re going to that place, and we’re gonna save Jack and Mom. Together. And if something happens, we will deal with it together. And if we die? We’ll do that together, too.” – Sam
Editor’s Choice
“A Most Holy Man”
“It’s not about luck, son. It’s about effort. All the time, I hear people saying the world’s not perfect. And they’re right. It’s not. But do you use that as an excuse? Do you use it to excuse your own sins? Your failings and your laziness? Do you use it to give a bad man power, because the world’s not perfect? Or do you work? Do you try and improve things in whatever way you can? Guys, the world will never be perfect, but if good men do good things, it can be better. Every day can get better.” Father Lucca
See the above explanation for my choice for tear-jerking moment. That applies exactly to this quote category as well. Actually, almost all of these quotes were really good. I loved Sam’s defense of Jack in “Rising Son.” I laughed myself silly over Dean’s declaration of “taking a bullet for the dog” in “Scoobynatural.” I loved Sam’s speech in “Unfinished Business” until it was totally invalidated in the next episode by DEAN LEAVING SAM BEHIND. Their words in “Exodus” were great but didn’t sell the moment as much as the hug itself. I only dismiss “Thanks for the suit,” because I was less than impressed with the cheesy battle that happened before that and then Sam not getting to enjoy the death of Lucifer for more than a few seconds. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
