Death, Horseman of the Apocalypse *Julian Richings
Castiel’s badass opening appearance can probably only be topped by the introduction of Death. There was no doubt about it when he appeared and how he was awakened that he would be a force to be reckoned with. This is the being who in the end would reap God or even his sister. A mere touch from him kills people. Dean and Sam also fear and respect him. I think Death is the only one that Dean truly did fear and didn’t even dare to joke with.
“This is one little planet in one tiny solar system in a galaxy that’s barely out of its diapers. I’m old, Dean. Very old. So I invite you to contemplate how insignificant I find you.” – 5.21 Two Minutes to Midnight
Known status: Deceased or by miracle alive and kicking (Hopeful thinking on my part)
Seen: 5.21 Two Minutes to Midnight, 6.11 Appointment in Samarra, 7.01 Meet the New Boss, 9.01 I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here and 10.23 Brother’s Keeper
Crowley, Father Crowley, & Fergus Roderick MacLeod
*Mark Sheppard, Lauren Tom (8.02), Marco Soriano (9.16) and Kirsten Robek (11.01)
Nobody has survived as long as Crowley as as an “enemy”. You could say that he has a pretty weird relationship with the Winchesters and Castiel. He has killed and tortured people in more ways than is imaginable. Crowley plans everything and always seem to be few steps ahead of his enemies. You also can’t help but wonder what he will cook up next when you see him.
“Don’t worry about — what, like Lucifer didn’t worry? Or Michael? Or Lilith or Alastair or Azazel didn’t worry?! Am I the only game piece on the board who doesn’t underestimate those denim-wrapped nightmares?!” – 6.20 The Man Who Would Be King

Cain *Timothy Omundson
I think most of the credit with Cain is laid on Omundson’s shoulders (and also Robbie Thomson’s writing). Cain was a larger than life character who you truly thought was in more than just two episodes. Everyone I have asked has felt the same way. But it was also Cain’s presence, that he was a mere bee keeper who laid waste to many enemies; A knight of hell who sat in the kitchen and cleaned corn while Dean was fighting for his life. I mean, how many demons did he kill alone in his cabin and still survived? A lot. In a way, I hope somehow Dean didn’t kill him.
“Abel wasn’t talking to God. He was talking to Lucifer. Lucifer was gonna make my brother into his pet, I couldn’t bear to watch him be corrupted, so I offered a deal — Abel’s soul in Heaven for my soul in Hell. Lucifer accepted… as long as I was the one who sent Abel to Heaven. So, I killed him. Became a soldier of Hell — a knight.” – 9.11 First Born
Known status: Deceased or by miracle alive and kicking (Hopeful thinking on my part)
Seen: 9.11 First Born and 10.14 The Executioner’s Song
Cole Trenton *Travis Aaron Wade and Colten Carpentier (Young Cole in 10.02)
This one falls into the mercenary category. The backstory he had made me interested in the character immediately. Also the fight choreographies that they made for him and Dean were great. He could be a worthwhile ally against everything that lingers in the dark but in a way I just hope he stays home and takes care of his family. If they ever will become allies, I hope Sam has the possibility to punch him on his nose because of the torture. He was also a soldier and hunters are soldiers in their own way so connecting the two doesn’t take any effort.
“I did two tours in Iraq. Special ops. Darfur. The Congo. I’ve seen suicide bombers and child soldiers so hopped up on speed that they could barely talk, but they could sure as hell shoot an AK… Don’t tell me about monsters, cause I’ve met my share.” – 10.02 Reichenbach
Known status: Alive and kicking
Seen: 10.01 Black, 10.02 Reichenbach, 10.07 Girls, Girls, Girls and 10.15 The Things They Carried
Metatron, Marv *Curtis Armstrong
I know. You are suprised to see him here, right? There is no doubt that Metatron was smart and diabolical. So who would have thought we would root for his character in the end. He had character growth and in the end decided to do the right thing, to fight the good fight, and he sacrificed himself in doing so. For a long time I disliked Metatron as a character because he killed Dean. That was the icing on the “Hate This Character” cake. But I grew to like him in the end.
“No, look. I know I’m a disappointment, but you’re wrong about humanity. They are your greatest creation because they’re better than you are. Yeah, sure, they’re weak and they cheat and steal and… destroy and disappoint. But they also give and create and they sing and dance and love. And above all, they never give up. But you do.” – 11.20 Don’t Call Me Shurley
