“Don’t You Forget About Me” is the second episode written by Nancy Won. The episode begins with a classic cold opening set in Sioux Fall, South Dakota. Two teenagers are drinking in a car and start to make out. Claire Novak comes out of the wood and grabs the boy from the truck. She holds a blade to his neck and demands to know what he is.
Jody and Dean talk in the kitchen about Alex and Claire. Alex has assimilated well while Claire is skipping her college classes and is alone most of the time. Dean sends Sam to talk to Claire. Sam advises her that hunting can be an escape from things. Claire tells Sam that she feels like she’s late to the Jody and Alex show and that she should perhaps head out on her own. Sam tells her that she won’t always have the chance at a family, school, etc.
The episode shifts to the murder of the school’s math teacher, who Alex and the rest of the school finds hanging dead from the school’s flagpole.
Jody tells Dean and Sam about the murder scene. Claire shows up and wants to start the hunt. Dean takes her aside and lectures her on showing respect to Jody. Alex and her boyfriend show up and Dean gives him the stink eye because he is skeptical that the two of them are just going to hang out. Dean and Sam investigate the school. Sam and Jody question the custodian and Dean meets up with Sam afterward.
We turn to Alex and her boyfriend in the woods. They are talking about the teacher’s death and Alex says there are awful things out there. She confesses that she hasn’t been like she is now and that’s she done bad things. We see a flashback to the ninth season’s Alex episode. Her boyfriend assures he doesn’t care what she’s done and they kiss.
Back at Jody’s house, Sam and Claire are at the dinner table when Dean and Jody come in. They discuss the case and Claire insists on going with Jody to investigate but Jody says no, they have an appointment with the registrar. Jody and Claire are ambushed getting in the car by a monster. Jody grabs her phone during the attack and calls Dean, who hears her being attacked on the other end.
Dean and Sam race back to Jody’s and find both Claire and Jody gone. The custodian vampire seems to be part of Alex’s old nest. Dean calls Alex and tells her to stay put. Her boyfriend attacks her and we see he is also a vampire. Sam goes back to the school and searches through the custodian’s stuff. Dean tries to call Alex but he gets no answer and finds her phone near a dumpster. He calls Sam and Sam tells Dean he found an old building he thinks that the custodian took the women to.
The custodian has Claire and Jody tied up and Jody realizes that Claire was right since the missing people she was searching for at the beginning of the episode are there, dead. The boyfriendpire hauls Alex in and the custodianpire tells her that this is her “whole life” with a menacing tone.
Custodianpire tells Alex that he saved her from an attacker a few years back. She had lured him to a vampire nest. He was turned and he killed his own family because of the bloodthirst. He has been on a revenge journey since then to get her but he turned her boyfriend and did it all to make her happy so he could totally destroy her. They grab Claire and the custodian is about to kill her. Alex promises to help them but Claire is bitten by the vamp. Sam interrupts and he and the boyfriend fight as Claire grabs a pipe and impales the custodian. Dean comes up and beheads him. Sam brings the boyfriend to Alex, who punches him and Claire beheads the boyfriend. The young women nod at each other.
In the final sequence, Alex and Claire are cooking for Jody. Alex apologizes for what the vamps did to them. Claire promises to be more respectful of Jody and Alex says that she may be moving on because she can’t be around the hunting life. The boys drive away and leave the three women standing in the driveway.
Questions, Specs, Feelings
Since it was a straight forward MOTW this week, not a lot of questions but…
1. What did you think about the episode?
2. Do you think other vamps will come for Alex?
3. What did you think about the two young women’s stories?
4. Poor Jody’s leg….poor leg.
5. Someone buy Dean a chicken and some potatoes so he can learn to use the bunker kitchen.
