TV Fanatic Roundtable: Supernatural 11.01, “Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire”
Oh yes, we’re back baby! Another new season, another year of the TV Fanatic Supernatural roundtable! This year myself, Nightsky, and from TV Fanatic Sean McKenna and new to the group Christine Laskodi take on the unimaginable, unthinkable, Supernatural season 11.
There’s so much more to consider than what our favorite scene or quote is (hint, Sam speech). What do we think of the Darkness? Who is making noise in the cage, and does this mean we’ll see Adam again? Will Sam and Dean change their ways? It’s all at the link below.

Also, here’s Sean McKenna’s review of the episode. Sure, the opener was good, but will we be burned by season eleven like we were season ten? It does make you wonder.
I’m floating it out there that Sam’s old demon blood thirst might be a factor. The way that they sniffed him and let him go, it felt like they knew something was different about him, beyond him just being infected. Am I stretching too far?
Now that is a very interesting point!
I’ve also written extensively about why I believe the brothers will find a way to destroy rather than reincarcerate the Darkness, so I think the cage’s occupants will be resources, not comrades in arms.
My theory is the Darkness is the reason for our sins. God could not completely seal off the Darkness. Its essence seeps out in a mere trickle, corrupting the weak minded, making people murder in rage etc. So no, I think the Darkness is a force of nature and must exist to balance everything out.
I have a quick and easy way for them to put to rest this entire Adam is still in the cage issue, and it would be canon friendly
In 10.09 The Things We Left Behind, Castiel told Claire
No. The human soul, it can only occupy a body while it retains a certain … structural integrity, and this vessel, it was … It was ripped apart on a subatomic level by an archangel.
In 5.22 Swan Song, Castiel threw a Molotov cocktail of holy oil at Michael while he was wearing Adam as a meatsuit. Would a holy oil Molotov cocktail have the same affect on the meatsuit an archangel is wearing? And, if that were the case, Adam’s soul would no longer be occupying his vessel.
Thoughts?
Works for me. The only thing that isn’t unimaginably cruel is that Adam died years ago and is happily living in heaven with his mom. I can’t really conceive of anything different that doesn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth. Unless of course they would like to bring him back in season 12 as a more human big bad, brimming with malice and righteous indignation at the bad hand he’d been dealt. That could be kind cool too….. a big bad after Sam and Dean and no one else. A human sized foe.
