Voting For People’s Choice Awards is Now Open!
Yes, it’s that time of year already. The People’s Choice Awards voting is now open, and once again Supernatural is up for a number of awards. Here are the categories to vote for:
– Favorite SciFi/Fantasy Show
– Favorite Dramatic Actor – Jared Padalecki
– Favorite Dramatic Actor – Jensen Ackles
Yes, we actually have to choose! That’s like being forced to pick which child you love more. Me, I’ll throw an even amount of votes both ways and go for the tie! They both deserve it.
– Favorite TV Fan Following – The SPN Family/Supernatural
Yes, one for the deserving fans! I do believe this is a lock. 🙂
Go to http://www.peopleschoice.com/pca/vote/ and remember to vote often! You can also share your vote on Twitter and when others retweet that vote counts for Supernatural! Or share on Facebook and your vote can be counted there as well.
The awards are January 9th.
Would I be cynical in thinking that SPN was purposely disqualified for the Best TV Drama category after that debacle last year turned into a total embarrassment?
Or how about that the brothers are purposely pitted against each other for Best TV Dramatic Actor so the votes are split and one of the other three nominees can win.
Or that Favorite TV Fan Following was added to throw SPN a bone for being excluded from the Best TV Drama category?
Okay, sorry to be cynical, but I remember how the show and the fans were treated last year by this group. I’ll vote, because I think the J2s and the show’s crew deserve recognition for the fine work they do. I just don’t trust that my effort will be treated fairly by whomever runs this little contest.
No, you would not be cynical. That is exactly what they did. Pure and simple. And you know what else? It is a no-win situation for us. No point boycotting, not a lot of point voting.
They deliberately set up the rules initially so that if you wanted to do a write in vote then you had to vote for a named show as well. That reduced the chance of a write in vote for a show of winning to next to nothing.
As far as I can see the extraordinary extent to which they went last year to snub the Supernatural fans is an indicator that they feel that extreme voting by a small group is somehow ‘cheating’. If that IS the case, and they think that number of viewers, and not the enthusiasm of the voters, is the indicator of how much a show is loved, then they should limit every IP number to 1 vote per category and let American Idol or Jersey Shore or Justin Bieber win. At least then we could ignore them.
SPN earned and deserved its 1 minute of national TV recognition last year, and it didn’t get it. But the fandom gets a pat on the head. They are so kind…
I view it as a no-win, too. I’ll vote this year, but I fully expect to boycott in the future.
ETA: In all fairness, I should admit that I am boycotting the Favorite Fan Following this year. That category is simply fan pandering for the SPN folks, and it doesn’t mean a thing to the J2s or their careers. I’m not accepting that bone to make up for last year.
No I agree. Because SPN wasn’t even in the options of best tv drama to nominate, you had to write it in. Which I did, but obviously not enough.
@Alice It would be like Sophie’s Choice! So I’m glad you can go back and keep voting for both. I would love a tie! And the CW better give them time off to accept, unless the pull one of those things like they did last year where the categories they won weren’t presented.
For all that the Peoples Choice ignored the peoples choice and ignored the people that complained that their choice had been ignored …. they have likely learned their lesson about making it really obvious on national tv that they are that petty.
If supernatural wins a major category this year it will get broadcasted, though probably as fast as possible. Maybe it is worth voting just to spite them, though there isn’t much fun in it…
Alice, I am sorry to rain on the parade of this particular post, I know you wouldn’t have posted it unless you felt we should get behind it, but I feel that maybe we need a better competition to throw our weight behind. 😀
In fact I think that the sci-fi, fantasy, storytelling-horror (not gore) and alternate universe TV shows should band together and demand recognition. They have some of the best storylines, best potential for allegory and most enthusiastic and invested viewers of any type of show.
Totally what they did. Not even listing last year’s winner? Are you serious? Sucks ass big time….
Then we’re given a Sophie’s Choice! Gah!
But I’m voting because the guys and the show and all the people who work on the show and all of us who love the show deserve to be recognised and heard.
Even if they don’t win anything…they know that we’re out here supporting them like crazy and that’s what’s really important!
Yeah I’m voting too FOR BOTH AND OFTEN. They deserve it, regardless of the a-hole who hold the awards. I would love it if they could basically get a tie, but I think either would be happy for the other too. They DESERVE recognition and they’ll never get it from the Emmy’s because they are on the CW and people have a misconception of what the show is like.
I agree with many of the things said above, however I can’t NOT vote. The show and these fine actors get so little recognition I want to support them any time they do. It would be so incredible if the Emmys would incorporate Fantasy/Sci Fi. This is a very popular genre these days and they seem out of touch by continuing to pretend it doesn’t exist!
I was absolutely disgusted with People’s Choice last year for the obvious snub given to Supernatural. It was unbelievable and upset me for days for its unfairness. 😡
I believe they have rigged it this year to exclude our show and boys absolutely from any chance of winning. What with no drama category and nominations for BOTH in order to split the vote. So obvious!! But I guess I’ll still be watching the crappy show with a shred of hope left for maybe seeing some recognition showed. 😮
And I can’t help voting because I feel so strongly that this show and it’s actors should be recognized and given their moment in the sun. They are so far above any other show on TV and never get the praise from the eliteists in the business.
The Emmys are really the worst as they don’t acknowledge that fantasy and sci/fi horror is worth even mentioning. They really are to be pitied. 😡
Yes Nathan Fillion will win in the actor category since the other 4 are on the CW and will cancel each other out. That’s ok I guess 😉
Yes Bevie, last year was the first time the fandom seemed completely united. Kind of nice actually. But yeah, they are weasels.
Part of me wishes we could unite behind one of the actors so we could stick it to the PCA. I wouldn’t care which one. They both deserved recognition for their amazing work. I know that isn’t a possibility but I would rather see one of them take it then neither of them because the PCA think they are so damn clever. One can dream and the idea that we pulled one over on them would me smile.
Thanks for the link Alice. Does anyone know what date the voting is closed, or does it go on till January? thanks. I will be voting often, because this show and the guys work so hard on it and are good! Definitely under-appreciated and they deserve some public recognition!
It’s going on for three more weeks
Thanks Darya for the answer!
