Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections “About A Boy”
Even if the quote for this week is serious, the fan video for the week isn’t! The article for this week was easy because I’ve had this idea in my mind for a long time.
It also gave birth to something else. The song that we heard in the end was used at cons, videos and even in a Parody video by The Hillywood Show with altered lyrics. The Supernatural Parody already has almost six million views! It is so popular that a Gag Reel has been made from the material. Also the cast of Supernatural loved it and talked about it at Comic Con. Hillywood was also present in SDCC cosplaying Demon!Dean and Castiel and they visited the Wayward Cocktails event. They answered a lot of questions about the parody, Dean Winchester’s video diary and the behind the scenes video. They are all worth watching! You can check out their Supernatural Q&A, the Js reactions to the parody, and all the Hillywood vids here:

So, if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for? The link for the Parody and the gag reel is below as well as the lyrics for the parody.
Shake It Off by Taylor Swift
I stay out too late
Got nothing in my brain
That’s what people say, mmm-mmm
That’s what people say, mmm-mmm
I go on too many dates [chuckle]
But I can’t make them stay
At least that’s what people say, mmm-mmm
That’s what people say, mmm-mmm
But I keep cruising
Can’t stop, won’t stop moving
It’s like I got this music
In my mind
Saying, “It’s gonna be alright.”
‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
I never miss a beat
I’m lightning on my feet
And that’s what they don’t see, mmm-mmm
That’s what they don’t see, mmm-mmm
I’m dancing on my own (dancing on my own)
I make the moves up as I go (moves up as I go)
And that’s what they don’t know, mmm-mmm
That’s what they don’t know, mmm-mmm
But I keep cruising
Can’t stop, won’t stop grooving
It’s like I got this music
In my mind
Saying, “It’s gonna be alright.”
‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
Hey, hey, hey
Just think while you’ve been getting down and out about the liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world,
You could’ve been getting down to this sick beat.
My ex-man brought his new girlfriend
She’s like “Oh, my god!” but I’m just gonna shake.
And to the fella over there with the hella good hair
Won’t you come on over, baby? We can shake, shake, shake
Yeah ohhh
‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate (haters gonna hate)
I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break (mmmm)
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake (and fake, and fake, and fake)
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off (you’ve got to),
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

Shake It Off (SPN Parody) by Twenty One Two
I stay up too late,
I’ve got the Mark of Cain,
That’s what Sam would say, Yeah
That’s what Cas would say, Yeah
I’ve had way too many drinks,
Hell, I can’t even sing,
At least that’s what people say, Yeah
That’s what people say, Yeah
But I keep cruising,
Black Impala moving,
It’s like I got this brother,
By my side, saying “It’s gonna be alright.”
‘Cause the angels gonna play play play play play,
And the Demons gonna hate hate hate hate hate,
Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake
Shake it off, Shake it off
Sam’s heart is gonna break break break break break,
And I’ve got the Mark of Cain Cain Cain Cain Cain,
Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake,
Shake it off, Shake it off
I want The Blade all the time (Yup)
I keep telling them I’m fine, (Nope)
And that’s what they don’t see, (No)
That’s what they don’t see (No)
I’m killing on my own, (Killing on my own)
I make the moves up as I go, (Moves up as I go)
And that’s what they don’t know, (Know)
That’s what they don’t know (Know)
But I keep cruising,
Black Impala grooving,
It’s like I got this angel,
By my side, saying “It’s gonna be alright.”
‘Cause the angels gonna play play play play play,
And the Demons gonna hate hate hate hate hate,
Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake
Shake it off, Shake it off
Sam’s heart is gonna break break break break break,
And I’ve got the Mark of Cain Cain Cain Cain Cain,
Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake,
Shake it off, Shake it off,
Shake it off, Shake it off,
Shake it off, Shake it off,
Shake it off, Shake it off,
Shake it off, Shake it off
Hey, hey, hey,
Just think, while you and Moose have been
hunting down the monsters and the dirty ghosts of the world,
You could’ve been getting down,
To this, Dean-mon
Bye ex-man, find a new best friend,
He’s like “What the f***?!”
Well, I’m just gonna shake it
To the lady over there,
With the hella good hair,
Why don’t you come on over baby,
We can shake shake shake…
Yeah, yeah!
‘Cause the angels gonna play play play play play,
And the Demons gonna hate hate hate hate hate, (Demons gonna hate)
Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake
Shake it off, Shake it off
Sam’s heart is gonna break break break break break, (Yeah it’s gonna break)
And I’ve got the Mark of Cain Cain Cain Cain Cain, (Cain, Cain Cain)
Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake,
Shake it off, Shake it off
Quotes:
Dean: What?
Sam: Nothing. Okay not nothing. This is bizarre, even for us. Dean This is insane, You’re like 14, how does it even feel.
Dean: Well, I’m me. I’m old me, but a kid. It’s freakin’ weird dude, and…
Sam: What
Dean: There was a Taylor Swift song on the bus that I hopped to the motel, and uh, I liked it Sam. I liked it a lot.
Sam: Okay.
Dean: And my voice is weird, and I’ve got like nine zits, and I have zero control over this; I mean it’s up, it’s down, it’s up for no reason-
Sam: That’s enough yeah, no thanks. That’s just called puberty.
Dean: Yeah, which sucks. Again.

What did you think about the videos? Did you think the song would bring life to as much as it has? Share your thoughts below!
The use of the song at the end of the episode was popular with some fans but I thought it was out of character for present day Dean to like the song. At a Con, Jensen talked about how he did not agree with the scene either, he described how he played the scene by not liking the song and was conjoled by Robert Singer into giving in to the scene as written. Sorry, I cannot provide a specific link. I do think the use of the song in the parody was great!
I think I saw a con video where he said he was asked back to film the scene but there was no music and he didn’t know what song they would put on it. Anyway, I liked the scene because it was light and made me smile. Also the reaction Dean did and Sam’s face. I took it that Dean wanted to pull Sam’s leg so to speak and not close it. You know. Tease the little brother. 😉

A few times in the series Dean has reluctantly admitted to liking a song that wasn’t totally cool. Remember when Jo played that song by REO Speedwagon’s ‘I Can’t Fight This Feeling’ on the jukebox which Dean scoffed at and then later sang in the car with some gusto, even though he was embarrassed about it. He also admitted that Bon Jovi rocked sometimes. And who could forget his All Out of Love (Air Supply) rendition. Always in the Impala (or the POS car) and Sam always appalled although he joined in on ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’. One of Dean’s dark secrets I think, he occasionally likes uncool songs. 🙂
I don’t know. For me also he let his guard down on that moment. Dropped the macho act so to speak. It is just one new side of Dean that riches the character. (Even though he will never admit it!)
