Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections “Keep Calm and Carry On”
I guess I should start this article with the familiar words: “Long time no see!” I am your friendly hiatus writer with the Fan Video articles.
While still monitoring and organizing the spoiler discussion pages, I have been meaning to get my own story writing and art going. “Meaning” is a good word for it because it hasn’t worked out as I planned, but sometimes that is a good thing.
The first season 12 episode saw the return of the one and only Mary Winchester. I am intrigued about the whole Winchester family, both the blood and non-blood members. Before the season 11 finale, Mary’s life and the life of her family had been dramatic and full of pain and sorrow. It was not fully horrible, of course, but the main events in the lives of the boys were certainly all bad.
Amara changed that. She wanted to reward Dean for getting her family back. It was a well-intentioned gift but the ripples from it might not be that good. I am glad Mary is back and that we can find out more about her and the back story of Supernatural. Even though the change might be hard, I am happy Sam and Dean have their mother back. That is why I want to take a quick glance at Mary’s history before she popped up in the park.
Mary Sandra Winchester, maiden named Campbell, has been played by two actresses, Samantha Smith and Amy Gumenick (Young Mary). The whole series started with her tragic death on the ceiling. That is how we got this legendary character. We didn’t know at the start but from a few timetravel episodes we have learned that she was the daughter of Samuel and Deanna Campbell. Mary traveled around with her family, learning the hunting trade until they ended up in Lawrence, Kansas. She told extensive journals on those journeys. In 1973, after Azazel killed John, Mary made a deal with Azazel in order to resurrect John and this started the curse for their family – although you might argue that God and angels started it and Mary was just one of those that didn’t have a choice in the matter.
This history brings us to the story of the pilot. Mary granted Azazel access to her home ten years hence. Mary and John eloped to Reno on August 19, 1975. On January 24, 1979 Mary gave birth to Dean and later to Sam on May 2, 1983. John talked about Mary to Sam and Dean, but there were indications that their marriage was not entirely happy.
In the pilot, six months after Sam’s birth, Azazel visited Sam to feed him demon blood. The rest is history. Mary was 29 when she died. Several years later, Mary was brought back to life in 2016 by Amara.

All smiles, I know what it takes to fool this town
I’ll do it ’til the sun goes down and all through the night time
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I’ll tell you what you wanna hear
Leave my sunglasses on while I shed a tear
It’s never the right time, yeah, yeah
I put my armor on, show you how strong how I am
I put my armor on, I’ll show you that I am
I’m unstoppable
I’m a Porsche with no brakes
I’m invincible
Yeah, I win every single game
I’m so powerful
I don’t need batteries to play
I’m so confident, yeah, I’m unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, I’m unstoppable today
Break down, only alone I will cry out now
You’ll never see what’s hiding out
Hiding out deep down, yeah, yeah
I know, I’ve heard that to let your feelings show
Is the only way to make friendships grow
But I’m too afraid now, yeah, yeah
I put my armor on, show you how strong how I am
I put my armor on, I’ll show you that I am
I’m unstoppable
I’m a Porsche with no brakes
I’m invincible
Yeah, I win every single game
I’m so powerful
I don’t need batteries to play
I’m so confident, yeah, I’m unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, I’m unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, I’m unstoppable today
I put my armor on, show you how strong how I am
I put my armor on, I’ll show you that I am
I’m unstoppable
I’m a Porsche with no brakes
I’m invincible
Yeah, I win every single game
I’m so powerful
I don’t need batteries to play
I’m so confident, yeah, I’m unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, I’m unstoppable today

Sia Kate Isobelle Furler (born 18 December 1975), referred to mononymously as Sia, is an Australian singer, songwriter, record producer and video music director. She started her career as a singer in the local Adelaide acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-1990s. In 1997, when Crisp disbanded, she released her debut studio album titled OnlySee in Australia. She then moved to London, England, and provided lead vocals for the British duo Zero 7.
In 2000, Sia signed to Sony Music’s sub-label Dance Pool and released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, the following year. Displeased with the promotion of the record, she signed to Go! Beat and released her third studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004. The project struggled to connect with a mainstream audience, and so Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and began touring across the United States. She released her fourth and fifth studio releases, Some People Have Real Problems and We Are Born, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. She then took a hiatus from performing, during which she focused on songwriting for other artists. Her catalogue includes the successful collaborations “Titanium” (with David Guetta), “Diamonds” (with Rihanna) and “Wild Ones” (with Flo Rida).
In 2014, Sia released her sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, which debuted at No 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and generated the top-ten breakthrough single “Chandelier” and a trilogy of music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. In 2016, she released her seventh studio album This Is Acting, which spawned her first Hot 100 number one single, “Cheap Thrills”. The same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated performance art elements. Sia has received an array of accolades, including ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.

Quotes:
Dean: Listen to me. Your name – your name is Mary Sandra Campbell, you were born December 5, 1954 to Samuel and Deanna Campbell. Your father, he bounced around a lot for work, and you bounced right along with him and you ended up in Lawrence, Kansas.
Mary: How do you know all that?
Dean: Dad told me. March 23, 1972 you walked out of a movie theater, Slaughterhouse-Five, you loved it. And you bumped into a big marine and knocked him on his ass. You were embarrassed and he laughed it off, said you could make it up to him with a cup of coffee. So you went to, uh, Maroni’s, and you talked and he was cute, and he knew the words to every Zeppelin song, so when he asked you for your number you gave it to him even though you knew your dad would be pissed. That was the night that you met-
Mary: John Winchester.
Dean: August 19, 1975 you were married, in Reno, your idea. Few years later I came along, then Sammy.
Mary: Then I burned. How long have I been gone?
Dean: Thirty-three years.
Sam: You can ask me any type of question you want, but the answer is gonna be the exact same. Screw you. You wanna get mad, you wanna get mean? I’ve been tortured by the Devil himself. You. You’re just an accent in a pantsuit. What can you do to me?
Mary: This was John’s car. She’s still beautiful.
Dean: Hell yeah, she is.
Mary: Hi sweetheart. Remember me?
Minutiae:
