Finally, TVBy The Numbers reported that in Live +3 Day ratings, Supernatural rose by 62% in the 18-49 demographic from 0.7 to 1.2.
Thank you Persysowner for Bits and pieces, what a brilliant idea. Please keep doing the thing, I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds it interesting and helpful.
One question – where do these +3 day ratings come from? Are there more viewers to count in three days time, or they have to recount the ratings because first time they have missed something?
Hi novi – I believe the +3 day ratings come from people who record it and watch it later, perhaps people who get it on their computer, or iTunes, or Netflix or something
like that. A lot of folks no longer watch live when it is broadcast, but later at their own convenience time and place. So there are lots more viewers to count in 3 days time.
Alice knows lots more about this kind of thing but I didn’t see anyone answering you so I gave it a shot.
I am so amazed at the new concept iof Bits and pieces- I want you to know that I am 82 and enjoy everything about the Supernatural sereis- The comments and news in the winchester family business site is always above par- thanks for a great job- You do the whole fan base a great favor every day- thanks again from a grateful fan –
With so much filler in S10 I think they should reduce the episode count back to 22. The money saved can be spent on more CGI or something 🙂
I think they should cut it down to 20 and make it all about the storyline! Not a 100% mytharc storyline but one where the monster of the week eps benefit the overall storyarc and allow the main cast to work in other productions with the extra time.
I think it would have benefits for everyone.
I actually really enjoy the filler episodes when they’re well-done, as were many or even most of the MOTW episodes in the first 7 or so seasons.( I do agree with eilf that even the MOTW eps are better if they somehow reference or make forward movement on the overall arc). But Carver and Co. are batting about 1% in that area.
I do too, I liked when the mytharc was the background and the stories of the week were well thought out and clever in themselves. I would prefer it more like the early seasons but I know that ship has sailed.
I like the filler’s. There’s always an Easter Egg or two somewhere in the episode. Sometime is not obvious.
Hi Lilmac48. I was wondering if off the top of your head you have an example of one of those Easter Eggs? I think I’m not as observant as other viewers and some of those little nods to the viewers escape me. But maybe I’ll try looking more closely for them!
With this team, I think the show should follow a cable model and do about 13-16 episodes. There would probably be way less filler then.
Robbie Thompson told us at the DePaul conference that’s exactly what he wished the seasons were. 13 episodes that all could be watched at the same time. He has no say in that though.
I think 16 is a good choice, 13 feels too short. But then I’d like it to be a solid number like 20 😀

Thank you! So many ways to watch SPN nowadays, ‘t is good! With these +3 day ratings we look better, but so do other shows. Or not?
I said to myself that if Jared won’t be at the Gilmore Girls panel, which will be held in Austin, that’s when I know for sure that what he is going through is really serious. Sadly, it seems to be the case that Jared won’t be attending.
It was announced that Milo Ventimiglia will join the reunion but Jared’s name is not included. Maybe Milo is Jared’s replacement?
Link (”http://www.ew.com/article/2015/06/02/milo-ventimiglia-attend-gilmore-girls-reunion-atx-festival”)
Entertainment Weekly should know by now if Jared was coming because ATX Television Festival and Entertainment Weekly are in a partnership for this year’s festival.
SDCC is in a few weeks. Maybe Jared was told by doctors and family to back off all public engagements so that he would be rested enough for the start of filming and the biggest convention they attend all year. He looked well enough in the recent photos but maybe he has learned not to over extend himself at least for now. Their schedule just gets crazier from here on out. I would also think that most questions he would be getting would be about his health and not about GG’s. Maybe he doesn’t want that kind of focus right now.
He is still listed on the ATX website though. All the articles are getting their info from EW, so it could be just an oversight. Though it is a pretty unfortunate one if so since he is the panelist that might be expected to pull out of the festival. I hope he does feel up to it, it would be much the least stressful way of getting back to normal publicity and getting past any questions since he was part of an ensemble in GG.
I feel bad for him because all of this publicity around him might have led him not to look forward to Comic-Con. He will be under much more scrutiny and he’ll have to face tons of people (fans, the press and industry people) who are aware that he has been going through personal struggles. Yet he pretty much has to be there because it’s major promotion for the show and the new season.
I would also think that most questions he would be getting would be about his health and not about GG’s. Maybe he doesn’t want that kind of focus right now.
I don’t think that he had to cancel in fear of that. It’s a reunion panel. They would not put Jared in an awkward position if he requested that there would be no personal questions.
I don’t understand why people say that Jared looked good in the recent pictures. That’s not the Jared I know. His eyes and his smile were not the same as before especially in the Facebook picture I linked to the other day. He looked really, really tired even though he had presumably been resting ever since he got back from Europe.
Hopefully, he’ll do great at Comic-Con. That would be a big step towards the focus being on the show again instead of Jared’s health.
From everything I’ve heard, Jared will be at the Gilmore Girls panel. The EW article even shows him on the list. My sources say that he’s doing well now that he’s home. I really think everyone has been overreacting to what’s been happening with him.
The EW article even shows him on the list.
What do you mean?
The following list is from the newest EW article that I linked above:
Milo Ventimiglia, who played Luke’s nephew—and Rory’s troubled boyfriend—Jess Mariano on the WB drama, will be joining the show’s reunion panel, EW has confirmed. The panel, which will serve as the television festival’s closing night event, already includes writer/ EPs Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, as well as cast members Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Liza Weil, Keiko Agena, Danny Strong, Matt Czuchry, Jackson Douglas, Todd Lowe, Liz Torres, Yanic Truesdale, and John Cabrera.
Sorry, TV Line article. This one came up around the same time as the EW one. For the record, I always find TV Line more reliable.
http://tvline.com/2015/06/02/gilmore-girls-reunion-milo-ventimiglia-atx-festival/
So that’s what everyone was freaking out about? Because EW got something wrong? My sources are very reliable and chances are they’re in the same circles as Jarett Wieselman’s. I do have media connections you know! Ye of little faith.
Don’t be a dick about it since you didn’t even name the source correctly. Hopefully, Jared will tweet about appearing at the festival soon like “See you at the Gilmore Girls panel!” Unless he is still undecided and will wait to see how he feels on the day of the panel.
I think you’re causing panic and worry for nothing and being a gossip hound, behavior that generally ticks me off. Remember, I’m the moderator. I do have authority to end this now.
(Edited by Alice. Personally, I don’t need your crap. One more outburst and I’ll block you from this site).
Yay! It seems that Jared is doing the panel after all!

To everyone asking, I’ve checked with @ATXFestival & Jared Padalecki is still scheduled to be at the #GilmoreGirls panel on Saturday
As someone who goes to Comic Con every year and is in the press room, that happens after filming has already started. It’s the first big media event of the season and it’s when the big plans for the season are revealed. Warner Brothers has practically made it mandatory that all the big names go to this. It’s a major effing deal to the studio. If Jared is filming, he will be at Comic Con.
That Comic Con appearance is so brief. The media knows to keep the questions to the current season. A quick question about how he’s feeling would probably happen, but no elaborate explanations. There isn’t time for that. The agenda to the actors is very clear, talk about the new season.
On a side note, I can attest that Jared was miserable last year. He was appearing with his sling off and he looked like he was in a ton of pain. He was not his usual upbeat self in our interview. They pretty much limited him to 3 minutes a table.
Poor Jared right from the frying pan again. I know he will get all the support he needs from his co workers. SDCC looks like a madhouse of interviews for everyone.
You are not telling any new information that we don’t already know.
I think that going to Comic-Con might seem less fun for him because people will be scrutinizing him more closely this year.
But I also think that Jared is the kind of person who can draw strength and positive energy from the fans’ support. I’m sure that the audience in Hall H would welcome him warmly. Seeing the fans at Comic-Con might even be more meaningful to him now than in previous years.
I think all you had to do was watch my video interview to know that! So sorry that I’m boring you with trivial information, especially when there are a lot of new fans that have no knowledge of Comic Con last year. I do believe I’m addressing the public at large on these boards, not just you and your boredom.

I imagine that his injured arm has had a good deal to do with a lot of things this last season. Especially as he had to have it operated on after it had started healing setting him back a while (as I understand it) and he was acting / flying / dealing with kids / dealing with cons / got the flu / lost a friend etc etc. It takes its toll and he had them all at once. Also there has been little of anything related to the efforts he has made (workwise) that has flowed back in his direction to boost his general well-being. It is no wonder his tanks are empty. I sometimes feel that he (and Jensen) allow too much of the weight of consideration of the crews continued employment on the show to weigh on them. They should not feel so responsible for that but they do seem to.
I really hope that next season the writers quit putting such a burden of misery on the guys’ characters in the show. There is a petition going around to have the brothers back on the same side next season and I think everyone including the audience could do with a little fun.
Alice I am sorry that your sharing some industry information with us has received such an ungracious response. We actually do appreciate your giving us some background.
Thanks eilf. I guess I get a little attitude when I try to share good news and get dismissed as a heteric! I’m sure a lot of newcomers don’t realize my history with this show and the people behind it.
Robbie Thompson told us at the DePaul conference that the plans for early season ten were greatly altered because of Jared’s injury, including the plan for the 200th episode. Granted I think things were back on track by midseason, but I think the 200th was initially intended to be Dean’s big pull back from being a demon.
Did he explain how/why it was better to do it an episode earlier? I mean Jared couldn’t even pretend to fight really (and he genuinely looked in pain in some of the scenes) why wouldn’t they make it later in the season instead?
I suppose I shouldn’t ask this but did he appear to be laying blame on Jared for getting injured being the reason Dean didn’t have a longer demon arc? I might be misunderstanding what you mean?
That’s two more episodes that gave Jared a break. Remember, they went for the “character based” episodes for the first half of the season. I’m not sure why they didn’t want to revisit Demon Dean later other than it was a “been there done that” sort of thing.
I suppose I shouldn’t ask this but did he appear to be laying blame on Jared for getting injured being the reason Dean didn’t have a longer demon arc?
Oh no, he wasn’t saying that at all. If anything, he was defending the choice because people don’t realize what a major injury Jared had. He felt total sympathy for him. No, it was just me adding a tidbit to an earlier point. Sorry if I confused.
I see. I am relieved to hear it. I heard enough about Jared’s shoulder and the hints of surgery to get a pretty good idea how bad it was. It is sort of sad that because he got it horsing around one tends to assume it not to be that bad. A friend of mine who was playing leap-frog (in college) broke both her elbows in what amounts to exactly the same amount of playing as Jared and Osric were doing. Sometimes these things just happen.
Alice I am sorry that your sharing some industry information with us has received such an ungracious response. We actually do appreciate your giving us some background.
Apparently, alice felt the need to address a post I had made earlier by using language like
It’s a major effing deal to the studio.
She was just emphasizing what she was saying. She wasn’t saying it to you.
Honestly SanSummer I don’t want to fight with you. I have really lost track with why you are being the way you are about all this. You didn’t seem to understand the problem the other day and you are really being rude to the person whose site this is when all they are doing is trying to tone down the drama about Jared. Making this all a bigger deal than someone being tired and finally running out of steam is actually not at all helpful to him you know. For one thing it adds unnecessary stress to him when he rejoins the rat-race and it has real-world consequences for him in the future.
You like Jared, I like Jared. Let’s not fight about the way we do it. And it really isn’t at all reasonable to call Alice names, she was joking in a sassy way for exactly the reason she mentioned.
(Edited by Alice. You’re done here).
No, not cussing you out. eilf explained rather well that is was emphasizing my point. Thanks eilf for getting it. Plus, effing isn’t cussing. I can share the real cuss word if you’d like. It starts with a f.
I think you’re done on this thread SanSummer1. You’re causing way too much commotion. I’m unpublishing any further comments you make on this thread. Calm down and you’re welcome to join other discussions as long as you have respect for others and are level headed about things.
(Edited by Alice – your complaints are not relevant to the discussion. Try explaining yourself in a message to the admin in private. Oh, and you were warned. You have been blocked from commenting on this site.)
I sometimes feel that he (and Jensen) allow too much of the weight of consideration of the crews continued employment on the show to weigh on them. They should not feel so responsible for that but they do seem to.
I’ve often speculated the same thing. Even though the Js would probably love a shorter season so they could spend more time at home, they possibly resist pushing for it because it could take a big financial toll on the crew that they consider to be family. I’ve read that during the strike-shortened third season, while the Js enjoyed the time off, they felt bad that the crew was out of work. It’s wonderful that they have such generosity of spirit, but not if it’s taking too great a toll on their own lives.
They are a tight crew up there in Vancouver but they WILL all have to move on eventually. I would like to see them all neither burn out nor fade away.
*quietly shoves ideas for Evil Sam in S11 under table*…
Would you be satisfied with 1 or 2 episodes of evil Sam? That would work for me! 🙂
.
A gradual buildup throughout the season and then BAM! Evil Sam for the last few episodes!
Whatcha hiding there? Hmmm? No need to hide the evil!Sam theory. I think it would do Jared the world of good to have an interesting lively role next season where he doesn’t have to play a character feeling guilty over stuff he didn’t do or trying to work out which version of the rules he needs to follow this week to get Dean’s approval.
A bad-ass ‘the hell with all of you I am going to go break stuff’ Sam would be excellent for a while 🙂 Dean in the meantime can be shirtlessly (obviously) washing his car (or getting the MoC back and ALSO raising hell if you prefer). I think that would be a way of making all the fandom happy …. yes a couple of episodes at least of that…
I wondered off and on throughout the season how much fun either of the Js was having at work. Sam spent almost the entire season worried, stressed, and did I say worried? Dean spent most of the season worried, grim, and did I say worried? It must have been a draining year for them, with so few of the lighter episodes, or even moments, to offset the dreariness of the MOC plot. I think the actor who played teen Dean had more fun in one episode than Jensen did almost all year- although I’m sure playing demon Dean was fun those first couple of episodes. You know what would be fun? An episode in which they both go out on the town, get drunk and raise a little hell together. That’s right after Sam wreaks a little havoc in his two episodes as evil Sam of course.
I could get behind that theory. Of course, technically, the finale basically had them do that (raise hell) so really all that’s needed when they come back is them both feeling absolutely uninclined to feel bad about it. 😉
Good one! I just really want the brothers to have some actual fun together. I mean, why couldn’t they have gone mini-golfing together instead of Dean and Clair? You know, the last episode I can recall in which they both showed pure, unadulterated joy in each others company was Plucky Pennywhistle. I absolutely love that last scene where Dean is laughing uncontrollably after glittery Sam says “let’s hear it.,” and then they exchange their little presents for each other. There was such a playfulness between them, that I don’t remember seeing in any episode since. (although maybe I’m just forgetting one)
I know this is completely off topic but just in case you never saw the video…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UuyudrClAE
Thanks again Cheryl! You read my mind. I just saw the pic of that on the discussion thread and I was about to start looking online for the vid. He’s such a loveable goofball. Keep those pics and vids coming girl!
i don’t understand why he doesn’t think he is funny! Man is hilarious…
(Thanks Cheryl! I intended this reply to go to you)
I’m so done with one brother depressed and the other depressed/grim. Now is the time for chaos! For evil!
Potatoes. I’m hiding potatoes.
On another note I’ve heard Jared say before he’d love for Sam to use his powers again. He loved acting that out. Pretty sure he said the same about liking to play evil again? Can’t recall where he said that or what he said really.
As for an Evil Sam theory he doesn’t have his tattoo to stop the darkness from entering him. Remember that time Sam said he felt something evil in him? Amplify that when the original evil, likely the most powerful evil washes over Sam. Add my theory of demons being based off the Darkness and there you go.
A bad-ass ‘the hell with all of you I am going to go break stuff’ Sam
ROFL! A fitting title for an evil Sam 😀
On another note I’ve heard Jared say before he’d love for Sam to use his powers again. He loved acting that out.
OK I could be wrong about this but I think Jared said it at the Comic Con panel last year and then he looked at Carver and Carver shook his head no. I wouldn’t mind if they revisit that plot. At the very least they could explain whether or not Sam was really purified, and if not, why doesn’t the demon blood have any effect any more. But I’ll accept any version of Evil Sam as long as he goes on a rampage and gets out all of his frustrations of the last couple of years. Hey, maybe Dean could enlist the young, wayward, annoying hunter girls to help him stop Sam! And then Sam could kill all of them (except Dean). How cool would THAT be?
Godamnit Jared you didn’t do the puppy dog eyes on Carver.
I think what you’re referring to was a 200th episode celebration Q&A thing. The 1st question of it was if Sam still do the demon powers to which Jared turned to either carver or Singer (pretty sure the latter) and he shook his head.
I’ll just have to keep writing my own evil Sam then.
I am reasonably sure that the only reason Jared isn’t the crowned king of whatever he wants up in Vancouver is because they are all 100% immune to his puppy-dog eyes 😀
That could easily be a shake of the head ‘not in the next 3 episodes’ sort of thing. They really DID say they are making it up as they go along nowadays
Wow you have a press pass and get to interview them?
Also if there ever will be another anime season it’ll be announced at Comic con.. Not getting my hopes up but man would I cry from joy ;^;
Milo Ventimiglia to attend Gilmore Girls reunion at ATX Festival [UPDATE]
UPDATE: Jared Padalecki is confirmed as well!
It seems even Entertainment Weekly had doubts about Jared attending!
As if we had any doubt.
(I know, I should report myself. I just couldn’t help it after all the crap I got for sharing accurate information. Apologies).
TV Guide Cheer for SPN finale
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CGhwRgRUAAMWVs3.png
Thanks Cheryl. It gets a big thumbs up from me!
Here’s a brief article about the guy pretty much responsible for SPN still being on the air, and with a mention of the show: Variety (”http://variety.com/2015/tv/awards/mark-pedowitz-office-cw-1201509849/ “) SPN is the rock that has allowed all the other changes of programming. The comments on the article show that. Though the comments on twitter show something else entirely.
Honestly. Today in ‘Wilfully misunderstanding what someone is saying so that you can complain about it’:
The CW’s most-watched season since 2008 produced dual sensations in “The Flash” and “Jane the Virgin.” As he notes, “I hope we put the final nail in the coffin (of the perception) that we’re a young girls’ network.” – Mark Pedowitz, head of the CW
Cue endless cries of ‘I have never been so insulted in all my life’ on twitter.
He means he doesn’t want it to be perceived as principally / only a young girls network! He has a company to run you know …
And especially for SPN fans complaining if the CW had been kept on by the person who wanted it to be seen as a ‘young girls’ network SPN would have been cancelled around Season 4.
/end rant.
Well… considering that we are talking about the perceptive and cognitive powers of said “young girls” I am not surprised. I think you give them too much credit though; I don’t think that they are willfully misunderstanding at all… I think that they are genuinely misunderstanding. 😀
Who else do they (these self-styled ‘young girls’) think is going to take up their ‘Wayward Daughters’ show idea? Assuming anyone does? MP and the CW are the only ones likely to risk it (also it would be their property). Way to get on the right side of the guy making the decisions by nattering on about how offended they are by him.
Apologies if you know this, but are you familiar with the history behind Pedowitz’s predecessor, Dawn Ostroff? She heavily promoted the CW as the young girls network, only targeting females 18-34 and bringing in trashy teen shows like Gossip Girl and 90210. She banished her number 1 and number 2 show (at the time), Smallville and Supernatural, to Fridays because they didn’t fit her young girl image! She also never invited stars from Smallville and Supernatural to the upfronts. Ratings of her girl power shows tanked, and even on Fridays Smallville and Supernatural remained high rated shows. Needless to say, she was fired.
Pedowitz has been trying to beat that rap ever since, so that’s probably where the young girls thing came from. Ostroff hated Supernatural and wanted it to die, but network partner Warner Brothers wouldn’t let it. Pedowitz in fairness is a huge fan.
Thanks Alice, I came upon SPN after the dread DO left but I did find out about her 😀 I know a lot of people wouldn’t know about her though since it is a while ago – and I didn’t know all the details the way you list them there, especially about specific shows tanking.
It is what made me mad about the people complaining. They don’t understand the state the network was in!
Regarding DO I don’t understand why if you have a show that is working you would work to make it stop working – and SPN will forever be the show that was in the wrong place at the wrong time!
Oops, forgot to add, as for Wayward Daughters, Robbie Thompson talked a bit about that at DePaul too. They are aware of the idea, but no concrete plans to move forward with that yet. Thompson also said if anyone should write it, it should be Robert Berens.
Oh I hope not! I would really like RT to write it…. Really …
We need RB if SPN is going to ever get good again ….
oops! Hit the report key by accident! Luckily it is my own post! Sorry Mod
