Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections “Brother’s Keeper”
.
Alright, there we have it. The finale is behind us. I enjoyed it, if that is the right word for it, and now we have again “Hellatus” as the fans of Supernatural call it. I had some trouble deciding what to pick as a video of the week but after searching for a bit I found two possibilities. Both videos are in black and white, which I thought was fitting because of the “new bad” we got in the form of “the Darkness”. So I decided to make this week special and chose both.
The first video is focused on Death and the Reapers. Have I mentioned how I hate them killing long lived quest characters? I mean, usually a new character only survives one episode. This is Supernatural after all but enough already! Death was a character who belonged to the top of the chart of my favorite characters. Julian Richings was so good portraying him. I can’t even imagine how they can fix what happened in the finale nor speculate what happens now when Death is dead. I actually hope he isn’t dead, like probably all the other 10+ characters they have killed.
The second video is also dark and focuses on Sam and Dean. The video shows how tough their lives are. Unfortunately, given what happened in the season 10 finale, their lives aren’t going to get better any time soon. At least now they will again be united against the greatest evil there has ever been.
Sorry about the dark theme this week, but these videos pay a grim homage to both losing Death and being introduced to the ancient “Darkness”. Maybe in Hellatus I can find some lighter videos for you to enjoy!

Death and the Reapers- “O Death” [Supernatural] made by: Люба Винчестер
“O Death” by Jen Titus
Oh, Death, оh Death, oh Death,
Won’t you spare me over til another year
But what is this, that I cant see
with ice cold hands taking hold of me
When God is gone and the Devil takes hold,
who will have mercy on your soul
Oh, Death, оh Death, oh Death,
No wealth, no ruin, no silver, no gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
Oh, Death,
Well I am Death, none can excel,
I’ll open the door to heaven or hell.
Oh, Death, оh Death,
my name is Death and the end is here…
“O Death” — also known as “O, Death, Oh Death” and “Conversations with Death” — is a traditional American folk song. Country blues banjo player Moran Lee “Dock” Boggs (1898-1971) recorded the song in the late 1920s. A recording from the 1938 National Folk Festival held in Washington, D.C. is on file with the Library of Congress. Various folk music artists included Oh, Death on a variety of musical collections throughout the 1970s and ’80s.
Indiana University Press’ The Journal of Folklore Research features articles in an 2004 issue asserting that “O, Death” is Lloyd Chandler’s song “A Conversation with Death”, which he performed for several years while preaching in Appalachia.”

“Shell Shock” by Clint Mansell
“This composition “Shell Shock” contains no lyrics and is fully instrumental.
Melody was included in original CD album Smokin Aces from official Movie soundtrack in 2007 year.”
“Clinton Darryl “Clint” Mansell (born 7 January 1963) is an English musician, composer, and former lead singer of the band Pop Will Eat Itself. After Pop Will Eat Itself disbanded in 1996, Mansell was introduced to film scoring when director Darren Aronofsky hired him to score his debut film, Pi. Mansell then wrote the score for Aronofsky’s next film, Requiem for a Dream, which has been well received. The film’s primary composition “Lux Æterna” has become extremely popular, appearing in a variety of advertisements, film trailers and YouTube clips.”

What do you think of my choices? Have you found other videos that you think reflect the finale? Am I alone in hating that they killed Death?
Those were awesome. This is my choice. The brothers will always choose each other.

I love that black and white Death video. And i was thinking ‘but Death is gone’ and it reminded me of the line “And death shall have no dominion.” So I went and looked up the poem, it seems to really apply to our boys. They can’t be afraid of death and it won’t defeat them. Although we are mortal, we will eventually be redeemed in the end.
And death shall have no dominion.
Dead man naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.
And death shall have no dominion.
Under the windings of the sea
They lying long shall not die windily;
Twisting on racks when sinews give way,
Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break;
Faith in their hands shall snap in two,
And the unicorn evils run them through;
Split all ends up they shan’t crack;
And death shall have no dominion.
And death shall have no dominion.
No more may gulls cry at their ears
Or waves break loud on the seashores;
Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
Though they be mad and dead as nails,
Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.
Dylan Thomas
That is a nice poem Eilf.
Sometimes the poems have such a good narrative that you can imagine them to be used in videos. I have watched few videos where they have had a speaker reading on top of the imagery and music and it really makes you have goosebumps while you are watching and listening to it. The second video example is one of those.
Glad you liked the video!
