Jeffery Dean Morgan of Supernatural Starring in Texas Rising and The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe
Jeffrey Dean Morgan fans have a great week ahead of them! JDM is staring in a new series Texas Rising, which premieres today (Memorial Day) on the History Channel. His new movie, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, premiers May 30.
According to The History Channel
TEXAS RISING is a 10-hour event series that details the Texas Revolution and the rise of the Texas Rangers.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Deaf Smith.
In a review of the series, Variety described it this way.
It’s a shame, really, since so many “remember the Alamo,” to quote the oft-cited rallying cry, without knowing much about what happened thereafter. Beginning in 1836, “Texas Rising” seeks to fill in that gap, finding “Texian” Gen. Sam Houston (Bill Paxton) trying to wage a tactical fight against the larger army of Mexico’s military leader Santa Anna (Olivier Martinez)
In an interview with The Star Telegram, Jeff talks about his role in Texas Rising.
In another interview with Today, JDM discussed his preparation for Texas Rising, including how he lost 40 pounds for the role.
He also talked about Texas Rising and The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe with Variety. He had this to say about Texas Rising:
I did “Texas Rising” for about six months last summer. I lived in Durango, Mexico. Looking back on it now, it was one of the greater experiences I’ve ever had. While I was there, I was miserable because I was away from my family and I didn’t eat for six months. I lost almost 50 pounds to do the role. I tortured myself greatly.
He then talks about his role in The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe:
I watched a documentary with Joe and Marilyn. I was so fascinated with this couple that had such a tumultuous relationship and yet, they were supposed to be remarried on the day that she died. He never married again. He visited her grave every single day for the rest of his life. Watching that documentary made me say yes to doing the movie because I was so fascinated with that love. They couldn’t hardly be in the same room together, but they couldn’t be apart.
JDM has been on a publicity tour for both productions. In an interview with The Huffington Post he reminisced about his time with Grey’s Anatomy and said he understood why Patrick Dempsey left.
Finally, here is an clip from The Late Show with James Cordon with Jeffrey and Halle Berry

If you’re not watching Texas Rising, you should be. Like right now. Go! What are you still doing here?!?
Yeah, I have to say it’s pretty good. And JDM is at his scruffy, delicious best in it.
Love that deep rumbly voice of his!
