Fan Video of the Week: Reflections on Supernatural “Angel Heart”

For this weeks video, I chose to go about it from a different angle. Inspired by The WFB article that focused on how demons have changed during the run of the show, I decided to focus on angels as it fits the episode, the fan video I wanted to highlight and the new monster that was added to Supernatural mythology.

Like demons, angels have been stripped from their mystery. In earlier days they were sometimes even worse than demons and quite the force to recon with. Castiel seemed to be the only one who even tried to understand humanity and protect it. Later in the series, Samandriel thought similarly, but usually, the Winchesters could say “Angels are dicks” with good reason. In old times we had Lucifer, Michael, Uriel, Raphael, Gabriel, Balthazar, Zachariah, Joshua and Anna to name a few. They were the original angels before bureaucracy kicked in.

I am not into politics but even with the new order some angels had spunk: Naomi, Samandriel and Gadreel to name a few, but we also got Malachi, Metatron, Bartholomew and Hannah who were very different compared to the others.

Angel lore is also always expanding and even if our views might differ in what we think about them it is good to always have something new. We have had Angel sub-classes such as Cherubs, which includes Cupids. They are third class angels. Rit Zien are “hands of mercy” angel field medics and on this episode we got Grigoris, an elite squad of watcher angels who started to prey humanity. The character Tamiel and the Grigori lore made me very interested in them and gave me a spark to the angels that I have felt is sometimes missing. He reminded me of Raphael, Uriel and Lucifer because of the lack of respect for humankind.

Of course we can’t forget the archangels, who are the most powerful angels, the scribe of God or the most controversial angels (that I have had no trouble with myself) the rogue and Reaper angels. Also there was a Nephilim that is an offspring of humans and angels. It is considered an abomination like the Grigori.

So, this video honors the angels but it also shows the past of Claire and Cas (that fits this episode). We’ve seen a lot more story since Castiel used her as vessel and saw himself as a soldier of God.
