Robin’s Rambles – Supernatural 9.23, “Do You Believe In Miracles?”
Summary
- “Carry On My Wayward Son” always makes me tear up, as does the recap.
- Dean’s imprisonment reminds me of Sam’s. Dean hacking up blood, not good.
- Metatron only responds to God. Lol. Story of love? Where’s HIS love? I do like his angel PA system. Going on a short trip
- Love how Cas fixes Gadreel at sacrifice to himself. Humanity is what Metatron wants, uh oh.
- Crowley isn’t back to his demon self. Dean summons him. Why can’t he turn off the killing high? It’s the mark, when you can’t kill, you die. Cain was a demon, Dean isn’t strong enough to contain the power of the blade.
- Cas, Sam and Gadreel find Dean gone. Uh oh! They know it was Crowley. The First Blade plus the mark could be useful, says Gadreel. The tablet is making Metatron powerful as God. They have a plan.
- Metatron, dressed as a bum, resurrects a dead woman.
- Crowley forces Dean to order more than coffee in a restaurant and wonders if he doesn’t get tired of the hunting rat race. Dean is frustrated cuz he can’t find Metatron. A minion gives Crowley info. They see Metatron saving the woman online. He whispers something to her and calls himself Marv. Dean isn’t hungry.
- Cas and Gadreel go to a playground where a portal to heaven exists. Cas is handcuffed, Gadreel’s prisoner. Though heaven is closed, they will let them in.
- Sam and Dean meet where miracle lady lives. They argue about Gadreel. Sam gets why Dean doesn’t want to explain anything and why Metatron must go–and Dean is their best shot. They will do this together. Metatron was whispering his next stop in the woman’s ear. “Chop-chop,” insists Crowley. Dean tells him to get off the hamster wheel, like he wanted. Crowley disappears; he only wanted to help.
- Leading the handcuffed Cas through the halls of heaven, Gadreel is praised for his capture–but then both are imprisoned in cells in heaven’s jail.
- Marv is recognized when he joins a group of homeless, and cures a man of diabetes. (My whole family has it, and I shivered with hope.) A man identifies him as an angel named Metatron, God’s former scribe, and before Metatron is forced to kill him, the other homeless attack and kill him. They really really love me, says Metatron jubilantly, as the angel is stabbed with an angel-killing knife supplied by Metatron.
- Dean’s hand quakes when he comes close to the First Blade, but when Sam reports Metatron’s location, Dean says he’s OK. Dean tries to apologize for the last couple of months, then knocks Sam unconscious, saying, “Sorry, little brother, this isn’t your fight.”
- Back in heaven’s jail, Cas tries to explain that Metatron set him up with the suicide bombers, he’s the reason for all their suffering–let them out to prove this, please.
- When Dean arrives at the homeless camp, they expect him. Marv has been praying for their forgiveness. Dean goes to Metatron.
- Gadreel say the only thing that matters is the mission, the humans. Gadreel has cut a sigil into his chest and tells Cas to move to the other end of his cell. He completes the spell, causing an explosion, killing himself. “Do you believe him now?” Cas demands.
- “Save the humble pie Jesus routine,” says Dean. “You’re a cynic,” accuses Metatron. “You’re Bernie Madoff with wings,” says Dean. “People fought more wars in God’s name– and God didn’t even know their name,” says Metatron. “I’m blaming you for Kevin, Cas’ grace, the Cubs not winning the World Series for the last 100 years,” accuses Dean, taking the First Blade from it’s covering. “First Blade, nasty piece of work,” says Metatron, letting him know his pals are locked up in heaven. They begin to fight, but Metatron kicks away the First Blade and quickly gets the better of Dean. He speaks of Dean killing Abaddon. He beats Dean fiercely.
- Sam comes downstairs and holds back the homeless with his gun, demanding to know where Metatron is.
- Under the typewriter in Metatron’s office, Cas finds the angel tablet.
- Dean, barely conscious, beckons the First Blade into his hand.
- Sam arrives only in time to see Metatron shove, twist then withdraw an angel blade into Dean’s chest. “NO!” Sam cries. The brother look at each other in anguish.
- In unison, Dean and the angel tablet fall. Sam runs to Dean’s side. The room starts to fall apart. Dean’s eyes open. Sam leaps to his feet and is about to thrust his angel sword into Metatron when the angel disappears back to heaven before Cas.
- “Obviously you and and Gadreel managed to turn a few dead-enders against me,” realizes Metatron. “Gadreel is dead” reveals Cas. “And the powerful angel tablet is in pieces for what?” Metatron asks, “to save Dean Winchester?–it was all about saving one human, right?–well, he’s dead, too–and you’re sitting in my chair.” Cas finds himself handcuffed to Metatron’s chair.
- Dean, dying, tells Sam to get out before Metatron comes back. Sam wants to get him to a doctor, find a spell, but Dean insists it’s better this way; the blade is turning him into something he doesn’t want to be. Helping him up, Sam tells him not to worry about the mark, they’ll figure that out later.
- Cas tells Metatron he won’t get away with this, but Met thinks the foolish sheep/angels will be back to following him in an hour, back to heaven atop this pile of human shame and excrement–and they won’t care how they got there.
- Sam helps Dean back to the bunker. “I thought you were okay with this,” gasps Dean. “I lied,” says Sam.
- Metatron tells Cas the reason he’s in his present predicament is because he didn’t read enough–you never learned how to tell a good story. He twirls the knife, about to kill Cas. No, but you did, says Cas, turning around to indicate that Metatron has had his angel PA system on all this time. The other angels swarm in, releasing Cas and holding knives on Metatron.
- Unable to continue walking, Dean stops. He wraps an arm around Sam. Through bloodly lips, he clasps Sam and says, “I’m proud of us.” Dean dies in Sam’s arms. Sam tries to bring Dean around, calling his name, begging him to wake up. Failing, he holds him tight and cries. “Dean. . .”
- Metatron is locked up in angel prison with Castiel and Hannah watching. “It’s what a leader would do,” Hannah tells Cas, who insists he’s no leader and never was–“I just want to be an angel.” What about his grace?–he’ll die if he doesn’t replenish it. Cas doesn’t reply.
- Sam places Dean on his bed in the bunker. He pours himself a stiff drink. Then he goes to summon Crowley the old fashioned way. (They do have his cell phone number, right? But I guess it doesn’t reach hell.) “You got him into this mess, you will get him out, or so help me God. . .” He lights the match.
- Crowley sits in Dean’s room and talks to his corpse. “Your brother, bless his soul, is summoning me as I speak, make a deal, bring you back. It’s exactly what I was talking about, isn’t it? It’s all become so…expected. You have to believe me, when I suggested you take on the Mark of Cain I didn’t know this was going to happen. Not really. I mean I might not have told you the entire truth but I never lied. I never lied Dean, it’s important. It’s fundamental. But there is one story about Cain that I might have forgotten to tell you. Apparently he too was willing to accept death rather than becoming the killer the Mark wanted him to be. So he took his own life with the blade. He died. Except, as rumor has it, the Mark never quite let go. You can understand why I never spoke of this. Why set hearts a flutter at mere speculation? It wasn’t until you summoned me, no, it wasn’t truly until you left that cheeseburger uneaten, that I began to let myself believe maybe miracles do come true. Listen to me Dean Winchester, what you’re feeling right now it’s not death, it’s life. A new kind of life. Open your eyes Dean, see what I see, feel what I feel. Let’s take a howl at that moon.”
- Dean’s eyes open–and they’re black demon eyes!
Questions
1. I was unspoiled for this, and shocked. Dean is a demon! OMG! I remember in “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” Dean was told he would become a demon one day, and here it is. What do you think of this for the future?
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes?
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead?
4. Cas needs to get some grace. I guess he needs to find his own grace. I wonder if that’s around anywhere anymore. What do you think? Why should he die without it? Why can’t he just become human? Why is he different from other angels?
5. What was Metatron’s purpose for going to earth to save people, then kill a dissenting angel? I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do.
6. What do you think Crowley expects to get out of all this? I know he likes Dean, but what is he going to do with a killer demon by his side? How will Dean react when he finds out what he is now? Will he want Sam to know? Season 10 is going to be WILD!

Robin
.
Love ya back Robin.
I always liked Gadreel. He to me is perhaps the ORIGINAL VICTIM.
SATAN is a lier and tricks everyone.
METATRON’s purpose, when you find out EMAIL me please.
He’s gotta go, gotta go.
Yes, we must find CASTIEL’s grace. He is meant to be an angel FOR man.
That might take a minute. [meaning a good while]
Crowley and DEAN wow, I have only wanted them to team up for ages now.
It’s important that Dean knows that Crowley never goes back on his word nor
lies. [leaving shit out is a horse of another color. ;)]
I am a DIE HARD, RIDE OR DIE fan. I will still watch but it’s not appointment tv for
me any more. I dvr and watch the same night. MUST SEE ENOUGH, right….:p
1. I was unspoiled for this, and shocked. Dean is a demon! OMG! I remember in “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” Dean was told he would become a demon one day, and here it is. What do you think of this for the future?
This was my guess when Dean first took on the Mark of Cain, that he’d go full on demon. Not sure where they’re going to go with this, whether Dean goes full on evil or works with Sam. But, I think the writers need to tread carefully because, if Dean turns in to a killing machine, redemption and sympathy will be hard to come by when he’s cured. Also, since the show is typically told from Dean’s POV, I think that might need to change, at least until he’s cured. The other problem is they typically don’t go with Sam and Dean separated more than an episode or two at a time; that might change in S10 to give them both more time off?
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes?
I think you’re right, he’s going to cause trouble next season but this is the new and improved Castiel and heaven, and sympathy and compassion are the order of the day.
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead?
He did redeem himself, but it’s still hard to forgive what he did to Kevin, his best friend, and Sam, and all the others he killed along the way.
4. Cas needs to get some grace. I guess he needs to find his own grace. I wonder if that’s around anywhere anymore. What do you think? Why should he die without it? Why can’t he just become human? Why is he different from other angels?
Based on what Metatron has said, I think Castiel is going to burn out and die unless he replenishes the stolen grace, or gets his own grace back. His grace is still in that ampoule that Metatron used in 8.23, isn’t it? That might be Metatron’s bargaining chip in S10, trading his freedom for Castiel’s grace?
5. What was Metatron’s purpose for going to earth to save people, then kill a dissenting angel? I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do.
I got the impression that he wanted to be the new God, and have people worship him. That scene of the angel getting stoned and beaten to death was disturbing. Gotta remember he’s batshit crazy, and trying to figure out his motives is like herding cats.
6. What do you think Crowley expects to get out of all this? I know he likes Dean, but what is he going to do with a killer demon by his side? How will Dean react when he finds out what he is now? Will he want Sam to know? Season 10 is going to be WILD!
That’s a good question; he wants Dean to be his ally; remember the First Blade can kill Crowley so Crowley better not piss him off. Not quite sure where the Crowley/Dean dynamic will go in S10, but Crowley’s gonna have one unhappy moose to contend with. I don’t think Dean’s going to be able to hide this for long; rigor mortis was probably setting in when he woke up as a demon; Sam might get suspicious.
” I don’t think Dean’s going to be able to hide this for long; rigor mortis was probably setting in when he woke up as a demon; Sam might get suspicious.” I love this! I am terrible but I keep having this one vision of Dean in leather chaps being held on a leash by Crowley! Noooooooo…
Did anybody else notice this? I didn’t and I am blown away!

“Supernatural’s little preview image after clips and stuff has been an eye this whole entire season.”
What, like God is watching or is it METATRON….
NOLANOLA: Because the picture is so small you probably can’t see the details . . . the eye shown is definitely black and the flames rising from below are definitely Hellfire. The reason the image is so shocking is because we’ve been looking at Dean’s black eye the entire season and we didn’t even pick up on it!
Thanks dear. I cant or don’t know how to blow this up but is it also dead angels…..
It’s pretty amazing, although in this jackass backwards town we don’t see the ending or even the previews.
I come to WFB for that. 🙂
What?! Damn. I live next door in freaking-football-country Alabama and we still get the short preview at the end!
No way! That is pretty mind blowing if it was always there! And it is hard to tell there but the edges of the eyes look black. I know the show is about angels and demons this year but what if this was a clue all along? 🙂
I noticed that. I just always assumed it was supposed to be Metatron doing a Great Gatsby “Dr. T.J. Eckelburg” thing as God in Heaven. I guess it was Dean all along. I still loved the quartet’s promo posters, particularly Dean and Crowley’s! I thought the red under Jensen’s feet meant somebody was gonna hold Dean’s feet to the fire, but also we discovered they took the floor out from under Dean, too. Mark’s featured that little wisp of blue–that lingering sense of humanity. Then there’s Sam and Cas–despite the receptive location Jared and Misha got angles that made the fact those chain links were cages obvious. Sam was caged by Gad, and Metadork got the drop on Cas. I guess I learned something in all those art history classes after all.
Puck, where are these posters dear….
Puck, where are these posters dear….
I don’t believe this shit. the same damn ending to REVOLUTION……
unfucking believable.
I think that Dean becoming a demon was inevitable as soon as he got the Mark. To me the shocking part was Crowley coming to claim Dean, as what? we shall see.
I think that Dean will commit a host of atrocities. Like Sam while he was possessed by Lucifer and when he was soulless most of the kills were off screen. Dean is going to be devastated but he will prevail with Sam and Cas to help him.
I really think that this story line will be wrapped up by the 200th episode. Such a landmark for the series would be the perfect brother moment of reclaiming who they are. Please Jeremy Carver please..please…please write this one.
I think Metatron’s story is over. He is in angel prison and Castiel would never trade Marv’s release for his own grace.
Gadreel somewhat redeemed himself. He did sacrifice himself for humanity, that he professed to love and Castiel. It was a fitting end.
1. I was unspoiled for this, and shocked. Dean is a demon! OMG! I remember in “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” Dean was told he would become a demon one day, and here it is. What do you think of this for the future? I would like Dean to go really dark and do bad, bad things. What I think will happen is Dean will be the best, most friendly demon ever. He will use his power for good, not evil. If he does use it for evil we will have 20 minutes during the episode to explore his entire thought process and how guilty he feels. Sam will get zero POV because we must understand and feel sorry for demon!Dean. I do want a comic moment when Dean realizes that he can’t get to the weapons in the trunk of the Impala because they warded it against demons. I expect that the writers won’t remember the trunk is warded against demons, so I won’t even get that.
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes? Letting Metatron live is a really bad idea. However, I’m not sure if it really was the angels idea or if Metatron wrote more of the story and he’s going to make a “thrilling” escape. I tend to make my grocery list during the angel storyline so I expect to have really complete grocery lists next season.
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead? I do feel bad for Gadreel. He was an interesting angel, played by a good actor. I would have liked him to stay around for a while. He was a victim and I would have liked to see a full redemption arc. Killing Kevin was an awful thing to do. Taking possession without proper consent was an awful thing to do. But being returned to the place he was tortured for millenia and dying there was horrible. I would have liked for Sam to be able to confront him. I would have liked for Gadreel to be the one creature that really understood Sam because of his possession. But that would mean the story included Sam and THAT is obviously not going to happen.
4. Cas needs to get some grace. I guess he needs to find his own grace. I wonder if that’s around anywhere anymore. What do you think? Why should he die without it? Why can’t he just become human? Why is he different from other angels? I don’t think Cas is different from the other angels. We have never seen an angel live without Grace, except Anna and she chose to become human and was born human instead of taking over a vessel. Plus, I don’t think the issue is not having his own grace. I think the issue comes from taking another angel’s grace. It might be like putting the wrong kind of fuel in a car. It may work for a while, but eventually the motor will blow because it can’t handle the other fuel. We may have Supernatural: The Search For Cas’s Grace next year. We may have Cas tapping Metatron’s grace. We may have angels offering a little bit of their grace to Cas to keep him alive and powered, but not kill him. Actually, something like that could change Heaven, so it’s not an awful idea.
5. What was Metatron’s purpose for going to earth to save people, then kill a dissenting angel? I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do. I think he was trying to write the story of himself as Jesus, a simple man who is actually God. The dissenting angel showed up at the wrong time and started telling the truths Metatron didn’t want told. So his followers killed him. I don’t think his murder was part of the plan. It did prove that Metatron was convincing people with his story.
6. What do you think Crowley expects to get out of all this? I know he likes Dean, but what is he going to do with a killer demon by his side? How will Dean react when he finds out what he is now? Will he want Sam to know? Season 10 is going to be WILD! I’m not sure what Crowley’s game plan is and I’m not sure Dean will fit into whatever it was. I have no idea how Dean will react when he finds out, other than my desire to see him frustrated by the Devil’s Traps that protect the Impala. I honestly don’t know if he will care if Sam knows. He may well still be in his “I’m the dictator” mode and what Sam feels is of no interest to him.
I didn’t hate the finale, in spite of my complaints. I’m truly sick of angels and angel politics, but with the Cas grace thing hanging over our heads, I suspect we will see more angels. I hope as some point the writers remember that human souls are trapped in The Veil and if we have angels they will be working to make heaven open for business. My biggest disappointment for the entire season was the lack of Sam POV. Sam was possessed against his will. His body killed Kevin and we get episode after episode of Dean talking about how HE feels about that, how Sam should just be thankful Dean did what he did. We get ONE, ONE line from Sam that he wakes up with nightmares about killing Kevin. Other than that we get nothing. Even in the finale, we get Crowley monologing about how the Mark works with Sam hidden away in another room. For goodness sake, they could have had Sam mourning by Dean’s body, while Crowley monologed a voice over telling us about the Mark keeping Cain alive and had Sam there when Dean opened his demon eyes. But now even Crowley gets more of a POV than Sam.
Sorry, I’m pretty discouraged about the focus of the show right now.
I agree with you, Percy. I could sit here and write so much more, but you stated it elegantly. I hate being negative about a show that I still love. And I seriously hate that I’m sitting here two days later and instead of being excited about next season, I feel anxious and I’m sort of dreading it. Maybe when I watch the whole season again and see the finale again, I’ll feel differently. I hope so. I keep telling myself that JC has a plan that he’s working and that if he managed to give us those last few episodes last year where we got to really see Sam, then maybe next season, we’ll get some more. But I feel like a dog that’s been kicked too many times and is afraid to trust.
And I’m really tired of not liking Dean. I wasn’t around during season 4, but was this the way that people felt about Sam? I keep hearing things like, I won’t forgive Dean until he apologizes to Sam and I read those same things about season 4 with Sam. I also keep reading about how this is the worst season for the brotherhood, but I’m sorry, season 4 was just as bad in my opinion. I know how popular it was with fans, so maybe that’s the dynamic they’re trying for. Unfortunately for me, I really hated season 4, so…..
To end on a positive note, as far as parallels to season 4 go, I do love that Sam’s reaction to Dean being a jerk is so Sam. I love who Sam is, and even though it frustrates me sometimes that he doesn’t just give into the urge to clock Dean for being an a-hole, I love the fact that he was willing to work with him and STAY with him to fight rather than abandoning him and that he is trying to HELP him fight what’s happening to him. I wouldn’t want him to be any different, because that’s what I love about him. I just hope that whatever they have planned for next season, I can love Dean again too.
Robin, I have given this more thought. Here is what I think METATRON’S reason for being is…..
HE is the mouthpiece for TPTB/writers/producers/creator.
‘HE’ is the DICTATOR, HE WRITES and we follow. Enjoy the story and stop complaining.
IF you think you matter, HA.
He is the story teller and he is wise and learned and knows what’s best for US.
BELIEVE ME, I GOT ALL THE HINTS THROWN AT ME. I can read between the lines, thank you very much.
Hi Nolanola, if that is true, what does it mean that the mouthpiece for TPTB has ended up in prison and everybody hates him?
GOOD ONE E
In the words of TEEN WOLF, we need THE REST OF THE STORY or THE WHOLE STORY :p
1. I was unspoiled for this, and shocked. Dean is a demon! OMG! I remember in “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” Dean was told he would become a demon one day, and here it is. What do you think of this for the future? It depends. If Dean is an evil, sadistic MOFO demon then good. If he is a weepy eyed, maudlin demon then bad.
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes? Not really (re. should have been killed). Metatron has been stripped of his power in two ways. 1. The angel tablet is broken so now he’s just an ordinary angel and 2. The rest of the angels know what he is now so the power of his words is useless. He can’t have power unless others it to him.
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead? I always liked Gadreel. His backstory was very relatable, and had the rest of the characters thought about it I think they would (should) have been more empathetic towards him. He made a mistake, one mistake, and because of that he was punished for an eternity. We don’t even know the whole story about letting Lucifer into the Garden. Lucifer was, after all, an angel. Had he fallen at that stage? If not, then why would he not let him in?
Even his actions, which many found objectionable, can be looked at differently. Yes, he possessed Sam. He was not only enabled to do so by Dean, but Sam (unknownst to himself) said yes to him. He was tricked, sure but a yes is a yes. Gadreel had just been flung out of prison. He was alone, free for the first time for an eternity, reviled by his kind and probably terrified. He was presented with an opportunity and he took it. To be able to hide in Sam Winchester, who would think to go looking for him there?
Add to that, it was only when Dean threatened his safety, and possibly his life, by telling Sam, that he ran. Again, can he be blamed? I doubt there is anyone here who would be so gracious as to think ‘Oh, you want to kill me. Allow me to step out into the open so that you can do that’. Hell no, he did what he could to survive. In fact, up until then, he did everything Dean asked.
He killed Kevin and the other angels, sure. However, look at why he did it. He didn’t do it for arbitrary reasons, he did it because he believed it was necessary to get his people back into heaven. He, like Castiel and like Dean said that season, ‘did what he had to do’.
4. Cas needs to get some grace. I guess he needs to find his own grace. I wonder if that’s around anywhere anymore. What do you think? Why should he die without it? Why can’t he just become human? Why is he different from other angels? Perhaps for angels, ‘dying’ is becoming human? I really don’t want him to become human. Were there other angels out there who died when they lost their grace? Anna was a special case, and was kind of reborn. I don’t see that happening with Castiel.
5. What was Metatron’s purpose for going to earth to save people, then kill a dissenting angel? I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do. To see if he could? He had become a prophet to his people, why not spread to the people? If the humans see him as a type of God then it will strengthen his position with the angels. Religious mania is a strong mania.
6. What do you think Crowley expects to get out of all this? I know he likes Dean, but what is he going to do with a killer demon by his side? How will Dean react when he finds out what he is now? Will he want Sam to know? Season 10 is going to be WILD! He’ll get empathy, someone who understands him. Or an attack dog on a leash. I’m not sure how Dean will react. He did seem to find a type of freedom torturing in hell, and again, being a demon type figure to those in Purgatory. I imagine bring a full on demon would be liberating for him so he might grab it with both hands. I’d rather see a full on demon Dean than a tepid half demon Dean. If he’s a full on demon then I image he won’t care if Sam knows or not. If he’s the half-demon then expect him to wear sunglasses around the place for a bit.
Alternatively, Dean might ‘play’ human before doing a big reveal that he actually was a demon all along. That would be one way to ‘torture’ Sam who would obviously be delighted that Dean is alive, and later devastated to find out he’s a demon, and will presumably blame himself for it as he got Crowley ‘involved’. It would also prolong the story, have Sam and Dean hunt together for a time and also allow them to revel in the angst later on when all is revealed.
I asked this but did not get a reply.
All the angels in heaven except META-FRAKING-TRON lost their wings, but any angel on Earth or elsewhere are still winged…YES…..
1. I was unspoiled for this, and shocked. Dean is a demon! OMG! I remember in “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” Dean was told he would become a demon one day, and here it is. What do you think of this for the future?
Hopefully, he’s a legitimate Knight of Hell. It’s the far more interesting story. For the first half of the season, Dean is the big bad, and Sam & Cas trying to bring him back/”save” him, before others kill him is the main focus. This also must be the main story as it happens – if they “flashback” it, ala Purgatory in season 8, I will personally fly to North America and stab Jeremy Carver in the face with a replica First Blade.
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes?
Nothing but bad writing and lack of creativity. The only reason to keep him around is so Dean can kill him at the end of episode 1 of next season, just to show how far beyond human Dean has gone. Metatron was a pathetic villain and a full season without dying is more than he deserved. Anything beyond 1 episode is a cop-out. He sucks. Move on.
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead?
It was the only way he could die. The only way he could find true piece. Dies on his own terms and for the right reasons. Liked the character, liked the way it was portrayed by Tahmoh. I actually think he was under-utilised. Deserved a bigger role.
4. Cas needs to get some grace. I guess he needs to find his own grace. I wonder if that’s around anywhere anymore. What do you think? Why should he die without it? Why can’t he just become human? Why is he different from other angels?
Maybe keeping Metatron alive is why/how Cas getting his grace back is possible. Part of the original arc of the season. Dean kills Metadouche before Cas finds out how to get his grace back? Create some friction, and a sub-plot for the first half of the season. Cas getting his grace back is the final moment for the last episode before the first Hellatus! Do it!
5. What was Metatron’s purpose for going to earth to save people, then kill a dissenting angel? I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do.
Metadouche was nothing but a mega-douche. He was a pathetic needy wanker, and nothing he did throughout the season displayed otherwise. He read a bazillion books and adored humans creativity, but never new how to do it – wanted to be loved, but never knew how to get it – and was jealous of Cas for that very reason. Cas has a true soul and Meta was nothing more than a wannabee.
6. What do you think Crowley expects to get out of all this? I know he likes Dean, but what is he going to do with a killer demon by his side? How will Dean react when he finds out what he is now? Will he want Sam to know? Season 10 is going to be WILD!
Crowley gets a Knight of Hell (for a while), and finally gets to reign supreme in Hell. Dean will be his meal-ticket to finally getting true authority. No more bickering. No more leadership challenges. Dean scares the shit out of all of them.
That should last for a dozen episodes of so, until Sam & Cas start to turn Dean around and bring him back.
The season 10 finale should also see the death of Crowley, at the hands of Dean.
I’ve got more to say, but I’m half in the bag, so I’ll leave it for later.
I anxiously await your PART 2. 😉
1. I was unspoiled for this, and shocked. Dean is a demon! OMG! I remember in “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” Dean was told he would become a demon one day, and here it is. What do you think of this for the future?
I wasn’t shocked at all. I’d been expecting it. If they make Dean go really dark with a well written redemption arc to follow then it will be good. This could, possibly, give us a brave, riveting, emotionally intense storyline that makes for addictive viewing. If they won’t do that and we just get angsty, guilt ridden Dean throughout then not so good. That could possibly just lead to a wishy washy, something or nothing storyline that is ultimately unsatisfying. With Dean a demon perhaps it might mean that we might get things from Sam’s POV at long last. Maybe we might get a Season Three level of Sam POV as Sam looks for ways to save Dean.
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes?
Bad idea. But then I largely think this because I really, really don’t like the character. Not in a love to hate way, he just bores me. I kept drifting off throughout the finale whenever he was rambling on and on. I hope he just stays locked up in that cell of his now. I guess they are saving him for storyline purposes next year but I can’t say I am looking forward to that. The angel storylines have completely bored me this year.
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead?
I was surprised to find myself quite gutted that Gadreel was killed off. I would have liked to see more of him on the show. I would have loved him and Sam to have a few scenes together, Gadreel knows everything that’s gone on in Sam’s heart and mind, it could have led to some nice Sam insight scenes regarding the possession. He could have been someone for Sam to connect to.
6. What do you think Crowley expects to get out of all this? I know he likes Dean, but what is he going to do with a killer demon by his side? How will Dean react when he finds out what he is now? Will he want Sam to know? Season 10 is going to be WILD!
I am looking forward to seeing where they go with the Demon Dean story. When Dean finds out what he’s become that’s going to be a heartbreaking moment. Then again, I really don’t want an angst ridden Demon Dean so I am also kind of hoping that Dean embraces the situation. I’m so torn on this. I can’t wait to see Sam’s reaction. He’s going to be devastated. I wonder what Sam will react like. Carver was writing in S3 when we had Sam looking to save Dean, he gave us Mystery Spot Sam. Might Sam go that way again? S3 was supposed to end with Sam saving Dean (damn that writers strike) so maybe Carver is giving us the ending we were denied in S3.
I’m also looking forward to seeing Sam work with Castiel, they have a nice friendship developing and Sam is going to need a friend.
I am probably in a minority but I was largely underwhelmed by the finale. I truly LOVED the broments, although after a season of brotherly conflict there wasn’t enough broments for me. We’ve been so starved of the brotherly love this year, I need so much more. Dean’s death broke my heart. His face when he saw Sam, Sam’s sobs, ‘I’m proud of us’…oh…*Cries* I watch for Sam and Dean and their relationship so this year has been a bit too hard going to be enjoyable.
I was happy that we finally, finally got a tiny smidgen of Sam POV and I loved Crowley but there was just way too much angel stuff for me to be completely involved. Count me in with those folk massively disappointed with the lack of Sam POV this year and with the way they handled the possession storyline. It was clearly just a plot point to get the MOC storyline moving but I would have appreciated some attention and sympathy paid to Sam’s side of the story. Hopefully S10 will bring back my SPN love. Hopefully you are right and S10 will be WILD. (And full of brotherly love and POV and story for both boys too. )
To end more positively Jared and Jensen, as usual, were fabulous. They broke my heart over and over again in the finale. Fantastic acting by them and everyone else too.
I’m always a little taken aback by Sam fans and their dislike of Dean and their undying wish for him to suffer or be shown as the truly evil person they believe him to be. How frustrating it must be to have the character you love, love the character you hate and choose to stay with him. We could certainly use more of Sam’s POV and I personally could have done without most of Metatron in the season finale. I started to cringe the moment we saw him at the typewriter again. Like most commenters I found the angels boring and a waste of time. Time that could have been better used to explore the brothers’ relationship and have it maturing into something better and stronger.
The finale, for me at least, was a lot like the season as a whole. I just didn’t see the point or the urgency or feel good about the brothers’ relationship. I wanted Sam and Gadreel to have a moment to discuss the possession from their unique perspectives. I expected MOC Dean to put up a better fight against Metatron. I’m real bored with the brother conflict in episode 1 being solved with a bro hug in episode 23. I’m tired of recycled plots and trashed canon and favorite or interesting characters being forgotten or killed off. Even the MOL bunker is a waste. Everyone can pop in when they want and the brothers still do most research on their computers. Who sleeps fully dressed in their own home and safe place! With a gun under their pillow!
I have a real dread for season 10 and what Carver will do to the show. After the finale I really wondered what show I was watching. Growth is good, changes are to be expected, but not at the expense of the basic premise of the show. Which is TWO, that’s right I said two, brothers fighting evil together for the sake of humanity and sometimes actually winning. Two brothers bonded by a common cause and love for each other even when one of them isn’t dying.

I hope it won’t get resolved in a few episodes. Give us demon!Dean for at least half a season.
2. Letting Metatron live? Bad idea. He can only cause trouble. He’s smart and resourceful. Do you think he should have been killed? Or are they saving him for next year for storyline purposes?
Yeah, kill off the much more charismatic Abaddon and let the slimy white male villain live. Fuck this shit. If anyone deserves death, it’s this dick.
3. I felt bad that Gadreel died. He was bad, but he made a sacrifice for the greater good. I was proud of him. He killed Kevin because of Metatron. He was misled. What are your feelings about Gadreel, now that he’s dead?
I hoped, even when he killed Kevin, that he would turn out good in the end. I’m sad to see him go and I’ll miss the epic bitchfaces.
4. Cas needs to get some grace. I guess he needs to find his own grace. I wonder if that’s around anywhere anymore. What do you think? Why should he die without it? Why can’t he just become human? Why is he different from other angels?
I’m underwhelmed with this. We have seen zero ill effects so far, only talk about it. I hope he cuts out the stolen grace and becoems human, this time willingly and staying with the boys. Fuck Heaven and the boring random angels. Bring back Luci if you want me to care.
5. What was Metatron’s purpose for going to earth to save people, then kill a dissenting angel? I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do.
He wanted to be worshipped and maybe make them do evil things in his name? Then he blames people doing the same for real God. This bitch makes no sense.

I really hope Dean won’t lie to Sam about being a demon, but of course he will. I have no faith in the writers. Cas will probably freak out but try everythign to save Dean.
I hope for some Dean/Crowley adventures. He’s his personal Kingsguard now. Will he be the Kingslayer in the end?
want to see Cain again, and not just for an episode where he dies. Cas and Sam could go to him for advice and he could be a recurring character for a while. He’s too interesting to die so soon.
Since the network will not let the show go (unless the ratings drop) I REALLY hope they bring back Luci & co. if they get renewed for S11.
you and RUSS should take your show on the road. 😀
The one reason I don’t think Dean will lie to Sam about being a demon is the fact he will smell of sulfur. They made sure to remind us that demons=sulfur smell this episode when Gadreel specifically asked about it. Now, Crowley could be near Dean so that Sam attributes the sulfur smell to Crowley being in the room, but at some point he will make Crowley leave and Dean will have to explain the smell. Basically, we have Chekoff’s smell of sulfur waiting to be unleashed.
Could be a problem living in the bunker, too. Dean would keep getting stuck in devil’s traps. That, and that fact that he was dead for a few hours, and now he’s up and walking/talking, might raise Sam’s suspicions, even with all the blows to the head Sam has taken the past few seasons. :D:D:D
