Robin’s Rambles: Supernatural 9.19, “Alex, Annie, Alexis, Ann”
Questions:
1. This episode wins 10/10 from me. It was a superb standalone, and I loved every minute of it. Bravo to the writer, director, actors!
2. Jody’s hair is too short. Agree or disagree, just my opinion.
3. This vamp family is really creepy. Deliverance-creepy. I was thrilled with each beheading!
4. Who else jumped a foot when Jody went to cover Alexis and she sat up so abruptly?
5. Why, when Alexis’ vamp family came to kidnap her, didn’t they kill or at least bite Jody? Why did they leave her lying, unharmed, on the ground? I wondered.
6. Remembering how Jody lost her family always makes me feel very sad. It was truly horrible.
7. Mama Vamp blames herself for not turning Alex sooner. This woman used Alex for bait, substituted her for her own dead daughter, then turns her when it suits her. What a sick bitch! Weren’t you ecstatic when Alex chose Jody over Mama? I sure was! It was driving me crazy when Mama was beating on Jody, about to bite her because Alex refused to, and Alex shot Mama up with dead man’s blood! Then Jody beheaded Mama, after warning Alex to look away.
8. Another ep finds both brothers in trouble, Dean unconscious, Sam tied to a chair, being drained of his blood. I was panicking until Dean leaped to his feet and turned the tables! Whew! Look at me, bitch! Dean ordered, forcing the vamp to look into his eyes. The scene reminded me of Sam beheading Gordon Walker!
9. You were enjoying the kill too much, accuses Sam. That’s not a crime, retorts Dean. I loved that exchange, what did you think?
10. So Sam and Dean apologize to Jody for not believing in Alex. Jody admits she was wrong, too, she’s buried her grief over losing her family under work, religion, dating. I loved this exchange, too.
11. The brothers cured Alex, leaving her in Jody’s care. Alex confesses to Jody that she’s done a lot of bad things, but Jody is prepared to watch over and take care of her. I looked at these two battered women who understand what the other has been through, glad they have each other, and started to cry. I really loved this episode. And I’m so grateful Jody Mills is still alive!
Love,
Robin
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No — was kinda prepared
5. Family was used to delivery, this hunting is pretty rare
6. *sobs*
7.Absolutely. Go Jodi!
8. Twittered last night that DEAN is reminding me of Gordon in “Bloodlust”
9. Good start but Sam needs to follow up.
10. Lovely.
11. Me too.
Question for you: When Mama said Alex was going thru a “process” I got a weird transformation feel — like the first time a girl experiences her period. Mama was acting like it was natural vice obscene. Y/N?
I liked the episode a lot, too.
1. Here here. Great stand alone episode.
2. I think her hair is cute.
3. Yep – benders vamps, just what we needed.
4. I was expecting worse than that startle.
5. Me too. They killed the other 2 people, so thought it was weird they did not kill the woman that actually took Alex.
6. Yep.
7. Yep.
8. Double yep. Also. – thought it was cool that the vamps knew who the Winchesters were – they must be legends to hunters and nightmares to monsters by now.
9. Me too – but I wanted more.
10. Me too.
11. Nice to see a happy ending once in a while. Bet the brothers needed that too.
SueB – I think the process was Alex turning into a vampire. We have seen how hard that is through Dean’s eyes.
Did anyone else see deans eyes turn black after he killed that first vamp dale
I keep seeing this comment that Dean’s eyes turned black and I have done a freeze frame throughout that entire fight scene and there was no time that his eyes turned black. I don’t understand why people think they would in the first place. He has the MoC but Cains’ eyes did not turn black when he was killing so why would Dean’s? I guess I am just being an optimist and believe that Dean will not go dark side because Sam will not let him.
I keep seeing references to this too, but Dean’s face was in shadow so I’m not convinced. Also, if you remember, when Sam’s eyes turned black there was no mistaking it. I think if this was intended for Dean (which I don’t believe it is), it would be obvious, and not open to interpretation.
1. 8/10
2. Definitely too short
3. Extremely – Loved every beheading
4. No, expected it.
5. They knew Jody would come after her with the hunters. They ordered delivery instead of take out this time.
6. Me, too. Hated that episode and like her well enough but would have rather had more on the MoC or the brothers’ relationship, especially with next week being another filler ep.
7. Scene kinda bored me. Much more interested in the brothers but kudos to Alex for making the right choice.
8. Totally LOVED that scene. Reminded me of when he killed Zachariah, and the vamp in season 2 when they first meet Gordon, the kills in Purgatory, after Purgatory, etc.
9. Kinda liked the exchange but I would have thought that Sam would have wanted to know first HOW Dean won the strength contest with the vamp considering this isn’t the first time that Dean has taken pleasure in the kill, or the first time that Sam has witnessed him doing that. Just seems like the increased strength would have been more worrisome especially in light of Dean’s tendency to seriously enjoy his work at times.
10. Meh. Feel sorry for her but I didn’t really need the rehash.
11. I am glad that Alex and Jody have each other and can relate. I truly hope that it works out for both of them and wouldn’t mind seeing them again in passing. Just not big on eps that don’t have more of the brothers in them, even though I know J2 appreciate the breaks. Selfish of me, I know.
1. I agree 100%. Just loved everything about this episode.
2. Agree totally.
3. Yes really creepy!
4. I don’t know how high I jumped but it sure got my heart beating extremely fast.
5. Jody wasn’t unharmed. That vamp was getting ready to bite her but got yelled at to come on from his brother so he slugged her instead.
6. That was a really horrible way for her to lose her entire family.
7. What a sick bitch is right! I was ecstatic when Alex chose Jody over Mama!
8. I just loved when Dean leaped to his feet and turned the tables! That line “Look at me, bitch!” was just so Dean.
9. I think it is some influence of the MoC that Dean seems to enjoy the kill a little more but he has always been about killing the monsters so I don’t find it too disturbing yet but certainly has potential to go there.
10. I loved this exchange, also.
11. I also really loved this episode and grateful Jody Mills is still alive! I hope to see her and Annie Jones in the future being a pseudo mother and daughter.
I also loved the initial exchange between Jody and the boys. They have such a genuine friendship and are always happy to see each other. The joking by Sam and Dean about Jody’s hunting skills and her growing up too fast was also delightful. It reminded me of the bros ‘superman/batman’ moment… and how starved we are of these types of moments this season. It’s only when their guards are down a bit that they fall into old habits with their joking banter. Love it 😀
1. I give it an 8 or 9. Don’t give out many 10s.
2. Short hair or long, always great to see Sheriff Mills.
3. Yep, family reminded me of the creepy family from The Benders.
5. That bothered me too.
8. This was my second favorite vamp beheading, after Sam beheading Gordon – that’s still my favorite.
9. Yes, they’re laying the groundwork for when the MoC overwhelms Dean. I think this plays in to Dean’s greatest fear and regret, of the 10 years in hell where he tortured others. He’s slowly turning in to that person.
10. This is why I like Jody – a character they can relate to.
11. Yep, hope we see more of Jody in S10.
9.19 proves the good ole fashion hunt formula still works sans angel story, however most of the recurring themes were the subtext of the episode. Shows that Robert Robert Berens (the writer)is in the SPN groove. Sam checking for fangs, thwamping a vampire on the head with a shovel, getting his blood drained and concern for Dean- Dean being sarcastic, getting knocked out to jump up and saving Sam. Flashlights, allusions to past episodes. Olde time formula with the grande exception of a female hunter and friend of the Winchesters who actually survives to fight another day. It seems like this season all non principle recurring players are having their stories come to a conclusion. It started with Bobby in 7, now Kevin, Garth. Say it ain’t so for Jodi, although if she found what she was looking for, it would make a nice circle.
