Kevin-Freakin’-Solo: Prophet. Hero. Family.
You never asked for this.
You had such a bright future ahead of you. Being an Advanced Placement Student meant that you were on the fast track to bigger and better things—the world was your oyster! You could have gone on to any school you wanted, done anything you desired. You were going to be a rising star and a future leader. In fact, we all know you would have made an excellent President of the United States—the first Asian American President, no less!
That is until you were chosen to be a Prophet of the Lord. The burden was frightening and overwhelming. We watched you flee in abject terror from Sam—all the while clutching the important Leviathan Tablet—even if you didn’t know why you wouldn’t let it go. You were to figure out how to stop the threat of Dick Roman—and you did. You told the Winchesters what the secret to his defeat was.
That should have been the end of your Prophet duties, but unfortunately so many others had other things in mind for you.
Through it all, we were privileged to witness the growth of a frightened young man into a hero. You didn’t choose to be a Prophet, and you didn’t want it, but you made do with what you were given. We were astounded by your resourcefulness to escape from Crowley’s clutches and to evade him for months. Our hearts hurt for you when we saw your grief at your girlfriend’s vicious murder and your concern for your mother.
We saw how adaptable you were—how you were a survivor.
You truly became a hero, however, when we saw you go toe to toe with Crowley, telling him flat out that you wouldn’t tell him what the last Trial was—all with the courage and swagger we knew was in you the moment we first saw you. You knew you were risking pain or death. You knew that Crowley was no one to mess with, but you did it anyways.
And after you were reunited with Sam and Dean, we saw you become more than just an Advanced Placement Student turned Prophet of the Lord.
We witnessed you become Family. Sam and Dean’s Family. Our Family. We smiled big when you were proclaimed a Winchester, brought into the fold, doing your part to decipher the Angel Tablet and reverse what Metatron has done.
When called upon to help the brothers in other ways, we saw you react with greatness. Your quick thinking got the Winchesters into a crime scene they wouldn’t have otherwise, and it’s all because you showed everyone the hero you really are. You knew what needed to be said and done and you went ahead and did it.
Your exit makes us sadder than I think you’ll ever know. Our hearts are broken that you’ll no longer be there to shoot arrows waywardly at the balcony. We’ll miss seeing the comfortable ease with which you worked with Sam on research or how you and Dean had great chats. We’ll miss seeing our Prophet get excited about the latest breakthrough on the Tablet, or explain things much too quickly for Sam and Dean to understand.
Most of all, we’ll miss the hero that you are.
To us, you’ll forever be our Kevin Freakin’ Solo. Always.
Hi Far Away Eyes
Thank you for this lovely tribute. I feel that same way.
However I’m still hanging on that he will be resurrected. :-*

Thank you for this. I actually loved Kevin from the first time we met him. He was hysterically brave. I think I sat stunned for at least 5 min. after the episode just trying to process what just happened. I will miss Osric he really made me care about Kevin. Dean! Dean! Dean!

Thanks for the lovely comment. I think, in a way, we all are hoping for that resurrection. I heart Kevin.
Thanks again.

I loved Kevin right away. I thought it was funny how the poor thing got thrown into this frightening world and we got to go on a journey with him as he learned to cope with that fact. He had a lot of great funny moments, and I’m still working on a top ten list to capture those moments.
Osric has also won me totally by his fan interactions, and I hope I have the chance to meet him at a Con.
Thanks again!

I adored Kevin. He had a soft spot in my heart from the first episode. And last season I found myself getting angry at the boys for treating him so poorly. But these year they made him family and I was so happy. I should have known. There is nothing that means the kiss of death more than being family with the Winchester’s 😀
I will miss him and hope they can bring him back in some cool way. Because I love Osric Chau too.

Thanks for the beautiful eulogy FarAwayEyes. I loved Kevin and I miss him already, but I’m not giving up on him being resurrected somehow. He didn’t deserve the death he got and I’m still hoping that God will see that too. Long life Kevin Freakin’ Solo!

I loved Kevin too; the confused kid turned reluctant, and resourceful hero. Is there any way that you can send a copy of this tribute to Osric? He would be thrilled I think to see it. He has said on his twitter that his time on Supernatural changed has his whole life.

Thanks Far Away Eyes! Lovely. I am not convinced we’ve seen the last of him 🙂 but if so, he will be missed. Kevin who rose to the occasion admirably even though it wasn’t a choice AND Osric who is an endearing human being. He adds a whole new level of boyish enthusiasm to the conventions. Love that guy! I hope he will continue to be a presence there.

🙂 Yep Kelly, I agree, I knew he was a goner when that happened.

Thanks for the comment. I loved Kevin and how he just slowly seemed to fit in with them. He fought hard and he helped in more ways than just translating. I loved how he worried about the two of them, too.
I hope they do find a way to bring him back. Osric was fantastic and I loved watching him build this awesome character.
Thanks again!

I have tweeted this to Osric, but when I make my trek to VanCon this year, I’m hoping to give him a copy in person. I hope that he saw my tweet and if not I may send it to him again.
Thanks again!

I sure hope you’re right and we do see Kevin come back. I miss our Prophet already!
From what I can tell, Osric’s already booked for a number of cons coming this year. I’m excited he’ll be going to Van Con, the one I plan on attending.
Thanks again!

Thanks for this tribute Far Away Eyes. It made me tear up all over again. I’m still half in shock over the loss. He had me wrapped around his finger from his first appearance. My heart completely went out to him. Every time he sighed, every confused or angry stare, he made me feel the weight on his shoulders. Osric was brilliant, I loved him, and I will miss him terribly. ***Crossing all fingers and toes that he might come back*** Van Con would be a dream come true. I hope everyone who gets to go has a wonderful time.

Thanks for the great comment. I really loved Kevin and I hope like all of us that he’ll be back. Osric is just kick ass cool, and if I get to go this year I think I’ll give him this letter on all of our behalf. He’s going to be a missed presence on this show for sure. Like you, I felt all of Kevin’s burden in just how Osric presented him.
Thanks again!
