Official Synopsis and Promo Photos for Supernatural Episode 8.09
Episode 8.09, titled “Citizen Fang,” is the last episode of 2012 for Supernatural. After this one airs, the show goes on it’s mid-winter break for a month or so. The official synposis and promo photos were released by The CW. This one looks like it’s going to be pretty tense!
SAM PUTS A TRACKER ON BENNY — Sam (Jared Padalecki) asks a hunter named Martin (guest star Jon Gries) to keep an eye on Benny (guest star Ty Olsson) without telling Dean (Jensen Ackles). However, when Martin tells Sam there was a vampire kill and he thinks Benny is responsible, Dean defends his friend. When Martin decides to take things into his own hands, things get messy and Dean is forced to make a very hard decision. Nick Copus directed the episode written by Daniel Loflin.
First Andrew Dabb gets a solo episode, and now Daniel Loflin. Interesting. Here are the 17 glorious photos that look very nice, but tell us nothing!

I hope this doesn’t send Sam & Dean into a tailspin, especially after this weeks episode when they were actually listening to each other. And I hope that Benny stays a good vampire, I like him. It’ll be nice to see Martin out of the psych ward and in hunter mode.
There are six weeks left in 2012 and only 2 new shows left!!! With a season this good so far, it is going to be unbearable waiting for new shows. 😥
“Dean is forced to make a very hard decision”.
I have a feeling I know what that decision is going to be, and why this episode is the one just before the break….(can anyone say angsty cliff-hanger? 😉 )…. and leads into resuming the season with 2 Samcentric episodes.

Curious how you know there are 2 Samcentric episodes. We’ve actually never had a truly Samcentric episode in the show’s history. All of them have involved Dean to a very large extent.

Well, there we disagree. Involvement of the other brother does not – for me – determine the main focus of the episode. I believe we have had several during the shows history. Not enough, and definitely not enough Sam POV, but they’ve been there. Again, that’s my opinion.
As far as how I know what’s coming, I only have access to the same information everyone else does.
Have a nice day, Jo1027

8.08 might be rather Sam/Cas centric.
Since it´s those two that go into “Loony world” together.
I get a distinct feeling, they´re trying to bring Sam and Cas closer.

What I meant is that we’ve never had the kind of episode for Sam that episodes like In the Beginning and The End are for Dean. That is what I would like to see.
I suppose When the Levee Breaks where Sam is locked in the panic room detoxing could be considered like that? Depends what you are looking for I suppose – looking to see the guys stretching themselves acting wise, and with good reason in a story, it is fine, otherwise I know I like to see them both (all if you include Cas – and I do) in each episode.
Really?
But what about S2’s All Hell Breaks Loose I?
S4’s I Know What You Did Last Summer?
S6’s The Man Who Knew Too Much?
What about episodes like Heart?
Or After School Special?
Or Houses of the Holy?
Or It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester?
Or Hookman?
Or Simon Says?
Or Provenance?
I would argue that all those episodes – and more – were pretty Sam-centric.
I realize a great part of this is perception/opinion. Just wanted to throw it out there.
I wouldn’t be against having another Sam-centric episode, for the record. It’s probably overdue, considering the set up of S6 and S7. I just disagree with the premise that we’ve never had one.

The only one of these episodes that is Samcentric is All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1. In my opinion Dean has had a great deal of attention in the rest of the episodes. Unlike the 2 I mentioned where Sam was in them for what? 5 minutes. I guess we’ll never agree on this so I’m done commenting on this.
Okay, Dean and Benny appear to be in hunting mode; machete in hand etc. What are the odds that they’ll end up finding and killing the ‘real’ vampires?
This episode looks like ‘Metamorphosis’ with a twist to me. An old-school hunter works with the guys to bring down a monster who may or may not have done / be going to do something bad. Hunter decides to take the decision into his own hands, gets killed.
If it is supposed to be a variation on that, then it seems like Martin might try to kill Benny (who perhaps hasn’t done anything wrong) and gets killed by him. This leaves Dean with the dilemma that Benny has killed a human, therefore must he be killed? That is enough of an issue without including a fight with Sam.
It seems obvious that this would be yet another big blowup for Sam and Dean but it doesn’t have to be. In this case all Sam has done is decide to keep an eye on Benny, hardly a major betrayal.
Of course it would be a major twist if Miss Werewolf from ‘Bitten’ was the actual killer (I thought it said somewhere else that it looked like an animal attack, not a vampire attack?)! That would teach various hunters not to let people go just because they haven’t killed anyone yet (another dilemma)….
Well I think we all expected there would be conflict between the boys again and I guess this will be when the sh** hits the fan again. I really hope the vampire doing the killing is not Benny. That would put Dean in a perdicament and as a hunter he really could not let that pass any more than he could let Kate have a pass if they find out she is werewolfing out. The real issue is: how do we go almost a month with no new episodes? That is going to be pure torture.
I guess I am just worried that they are setting Sam up to be the brother in the wrong again: he’ll suspect Benny, send in a spy behind Dean’s back, and then he’ll be proven wrong……creating one more thing for Dean to hold against him. 🙁
Perhaps. But there’s always the chance that Benny’s betrayal will be revealed in a later episode and come from wholly unexpected quarters.
It says, that Sam is giving Dean the time and opportunity to check it out himself, but Martin is the one, rushing ahead.
So it might actually not be between Sam and Dean, but Martin and Dean and Sam caught in the middle.
And I really would like to see, how he would decide.
In reading this, I find I’m most interested in this “hard decision” Dean has to make. I too hope though that Sam doesn’t end up in the wrong having Martin tail Benny.
