Top Ten Random Things That Remind Me of “Supernatural”
As we all know, “Supernatural” is awesome and we think about it all the time anyway. Β I mean, who doesn’t think of Dean when they eat pie or Castiel when they see a trench coat or Bobby when they see a trucker’s cap or Sam when someone tries to puppy-dog eye them?Β There’s a strong association between the show and things on the show that reminds us of, well, the show! Β But there are other normal, everyday things that also make me think of “Supernatural” because my mind just works that way. Β So without further ado, here are my Top Ten Random Things That Remind Me of “Supernatural.”
Bonus: The Winchester Mystery House
This house, located in San Jose, California, was built by Sarah Winchester and was under construction for 38 straight years. Β It’s reported to be haunted by the ghosts of the workers who died during its construction. Β And yes, this house was part of the inspiration for the Winchester surname on the show. Β The reason it is an honorable mention is that my mom lives near San Jose, so when I go to visit her, we see Winchester things all over the place, from the house to a road, etc. Β And it always reminds us of the show, as she is a big fan, as well.
10. Gabriel Bros.
And what, pray tell, is Gabriel Brothers? Β Well, it’s a store where you can get designer clothes for deep discounts, if you look really, really hard. Β It’s like a treasure hunt, so it’s really fun. Β But it’s a local Western Pennsylvania/Eastern Ohio store chain, so you might not have one near you. Β And I think the reason it reminds me of the show is pretty obvious. Β But there aren’t many around me, so I don’t see it a lot, hence its placement at number 10.
9. Michaels Craft Store
Michaels is a craft store, which strikes me as an hilarious thing for an archangel to own. Β Bored in heaven? Β Do a craft! Β Maybe he just really likes making silk floral arrangements…
8. Wing Earrings
I may or may not have gotten these two days after the season 6 finale and I was still reeling about Cass going godlike and eating a bunch of souls. Β I may or may not feel better when I wear them because they remind me of the good-old, pre-god Cass. Β I regret nothing.
7. Alice Street
This street is like two streets away from my house, and I drive on it practically every day. Β It reminds me of our fearless leader, and is appropriately a one-way street. Β She’s such a dictator, that Alice.
6. Angel Statues
I live nearby two cemeteries, which is bad if the zombie apocalypse ever happens, but it’s good for walking. Β I love walking in cemeteries because they’re peaceful, quiet, and I always feel like when I walk by a tombstone, I’m visiting that person if only for a little while. Β And when I pass by this angel statue, of course I think of Cass, especially now, because it’s broken and looks rather sad. And because I have a bit of a Thing for Cass, if that isn’t obvious by now. Β Also, I think the reason angel stuff reminds me of the show and not other things is because I’m not religious, though I was raised in a house with religion. Β It just didn’t take with me. Β So my biggest attachment to angels is “Supernatural.”
5. Impala Cars
These things are ALL OVER the place around me. Β People love Impalas. Β But of course, they pale in comparison to the real thing. Β It’s like a house cat compared to a tiger. Β Just look at that lame car. Β I’m sorry to any of our readers that owns an Impala because they may be lovely cars to drive or whatever. Β But, yeah, now they just make me laugh.
4. Alistar License Plate
Here’s the deal with this license plate: I don’t know if it’s supposed to be “Allstar” or what, but all I see is Alastair, and it creeps me right out. Β This car is never in the parking lot when I get to work, but when I leave, it’s parked next to my car every day. Β They’re stalking me. Β Creepy demon stalking! Β Not good!
3. “Supernatural” Poster
As some of you may know, I work for the company that does the closed captioning for “Supernatural,” which, yes, is awesome. Β Part of our decorating scheme in the office is to put up posters on the wall for some of the shows we caption, and one of the posters is a season 1 poster. Β So I walk by that poster every day and sigh because it’s a pretty good one, I think.
2. Sam’s Club
This is Walmart’s wholesale club where you can buy like 87 of anything in giant packages, from diapers to snacks to TVs to watermelons. Β You name it, they have it in large supply. Β Which seems rather appropriate for a Sasquatch of a character, don’t you think? Β If only they sold bulk stuffed moose…
1. Dean’s Milk
Dean’s Foods is, rather obviously, a food distribution company. Β They have a number of brands, but the one that I come across is Dean’s Milk. Β Their dairy is a Midwestern thing, and it just always makes me laugh to see Dean’s Milk in the store. Β I really can’t tell you why, but it does. Β Of all the beverages I associate with Dean, milk is certainly not one of them. Β Goes well with pie, though!!!!
So there you have it. Β What random things do you associate with the show?
I get reminded of Supernatural on my way to or from work very often. Let me explain why. Here in Germany our licence plates are like this: First you get one to three letters which will show which county the car owner lives in then you get a couple random letters and numbers (if you pay you can pick those). Coming back to the countys it will be e.g. B: Berlin, HH=Hamburg etc. There is a county not to far away where I live which is called Calw and a license plate from there looks like this: http://www.firmendb.de/kfz-kennzeichen/kfz_calw_baden-wuerttemberg.png and some times there are people here from south of Berlin, a licence plate from that county looks like this:

But most of all I get reminded through out the day of Supernatural because of the music. I listen everywhere even at work to classic rock radio stations. So you know sooner or later there will be a song which reminds of SPN. I also try to go out every Tuesday night to go dancing. Why Tuesday because the club plays classic rock that night. So there I am on the dance floor and then they play ACDC or Kansas what ever and I close my eyes and my brain shows me the pics of the epy the song was used in.
This “SPN …” is soo cool. I have seen this for a while.
But here in the south there is a city named Stuttgart. You can shorten the city with a “S”. So I saw a car named “S-AM”.
I knew this was coming sometime, Flamey! Loved all your picks.
I get reminded of Supernatural constantly, in particular via music, but also at work. But the most obvious reminder happened while I was on holiday in Yorkshire – there is a place in Manchester called ‘Deansgate’. Ha! That was hilarious!
Love, Jas
I loved this idea Arde!
There are so many utterly ridiculous inconsequential things that make our beloved show spring to mind, it often seems like it is constantly in my mind. Which, if I am honest, it usually is. π
Recently I have had countless trips to Manchester with friends and I take great pleasure in driving down that aforementioned main street, Deansgate Γ’β¬β

It has become a standing joke between my friends who tolerate my obsession. All roads lead here, and when I get there I can then find my way to anywhere in the city.
Another recent trip back from Scarborough saw me drive past `Deans Garden Centre`. Maybe this would be a good idea. Unfortunately I donΓ’β¬β’t have a garden but I am told by friends who do that it is a source of tremendous relaxation and can you think of anyone who needs to relax occasionally more than our boy?
As people have probably gathered I am also obsessed with music and sing in 2 choirs, in one of these the first piece of music I was given was `Mr Sandman` which if anyone has seen the recent collection I put together they will understand why I sing this grinning like an idiot. π The other choir has just started rehearsing `True Colours`, again check out the vid for that one! The same thing applied this week when I went to an Eels gig, during their performances of Souljacker (22 miles of hard road) and Fresh Blood my mind was elsewhere! π
These are just a few that immediately spring to mind, I could go on and on and on, but there is not a day goes by when something does not trigger a smile. But as I am happy in my insanity, I don`t care.
Oh and there is of course the smile every time at the supermarket when I walk past (usually picking up a packet as I do) The Oreos.
I, for one, can’t hear “Eye of the tiger” anymore without remembering Jensen’s hilarious performance. Or “Heat of the moment” and Dean’s gleeful mood. Or “Back in black” (or “SMoke on the water”) and the return of the Impala.
Presently, I’m watching “Warehouse 13” and the interaction between Myka and Pete reminds me a LOT of S1 Sam and Dean (and Myka even said in her farewell letter to the team that he was like a big brother to her). Not to mention te presence of Mark Sheppard in the show…
I often watch western movies, and a Winchester rifle or a Colt gun inevitably stir a LOT of memories. And I won’t be able to see Clint Eastwood’s “man without name”, with is serape, anymore without thinking of a certain sheriff… π
And anytime I see an old Chevrolet mark my heart skip a beat.
Oh, and (forgive me, Stephanie Meyers’ fans!) everytime I see the Twilight books or posters of the movies, I can’t help but think “Eat it, Twilight!” or “These are not vampires, these are d*cks”. π
I have a 2001 Impala that has a wicked spoiler, is green, can top out at 180, and is named Dean. Unfortunately, he’s hail damaged at the moment, but is covered by my insurance.
As for things that remind me of the show, I saw in Greenwich Village last night Sammy’s Grill. It made me laugh.
Sammy’s Grill…..mmmm….yummy!
I bet you can guess what I thought when I read that?! π
I can guess. *wink*
I just happened to look up and saw it in big gold letters and started giggling. I can just imagine Dean dragging Sam there just because he knows it’d annoy his little brother.
I have “Carry On My Wayward Son” as my ringtone. And when I forget to turn it off in my office, everyone can hear it when it rings. My colleagues look at me and laugh.
Also, I can’t look at flannel the same way ever again. Never thought it was awesome before. Now I do. π
Oh, my, glad you mentioned that! I almost forgot – I have that ringtone, too. It would be interesting to find out how many Supernatural fans’ mobiles ring with ‘Carry On My Wayward Son’!
π
Oh you know there’s a bunch of us. They should test it at a convention at some point. Have everyone ring their phones at once.
Wouldn’t that be some fun? I’ll have to make sure to be at that particular convention… Live experiments, yay π
Just thought of something else… How couldl I forget that?! On one of my holiday trips I discovered one of Jensen’s ‘secrets’ – he owns a litte antique shop. Here’s proof:

Funny what our fan mind notices, eh?
π , Jas
Jas, who the heck is Ballantine? Maybe ‘Jensen’s’ former partner was ‘Jared’, now that would be a funny sign? π
Ardeospina, Ms. Associate Editor, it is so cool that your ‘day’ job is also connected to SPN.
I saw the repeat of South Park’s ‘Guitar Queer-O’, this week and what was the main song? ‘Carry On Wayward Son’. Everytime it played, I looked for Sam and Dean, but nope. I wonder if Trey and Matt are SPN fans? That would be cool.
OMG, the Impala is now a piece of plastic crap. What has this world come to? π
You know, NancyL, the Jensen and Ballantine is the sign to an antique shop I once found. It isn’t, of course, connected to the real Jensen.
I just couldn’t look away when I spotted it.
Jensen is, as you surely know, a Danish and North Frisian surname. So I guess, the owners might be ‘Thomas’ Jensen and ‘George’ Ballantine, who knows…

I’m reminded everyday of SPN. I actually drive my friend nuts with all the times I talk about this or that on the show. I drive through a tunnel to go to work, and I can’t help thinking, “I see light at the end…that’s hellfire Dean”!, Ha. Being a librarian, I have my own personal cart (I like my things), I got a picture of the Impala, stuck it on there and called it the Metallicart, so nobody but me gets to touch it. Classic rock fan, always have been, used to love Asia, so anytime I hear a song of theirs, Mystery Spot comes into my head, then I have to watch it, yea!
I’ve been to California many moons ago and I would have loved, to see the Winchester House, I was fascinated by the Supernatural my whole life. That house is wicked cool, imagine building a house with rooms that lead nowhere just to make sure that the ghosts of people killed by Winchester guns will not get you. Man, they should set one of their shows there.
Ah, I do tend to go on and on about SPN, people sigh everytime I mention it now, like they are indulging my obsession, probably thinking, poor Sylvie, she needs to get a life. They do not know what they are missing, more for us I say.
So I too have Carry On Wayward Son as my ringtone, but its done by the Vitamin String Quartet.
I also suffer the affliction of seeing things that remind me of our show. Just the other day, I was at a little country store and in their refridgerator section was Crowley cheese (http://www.crowleycheese-vermont.com/), which made me chuckle. If you can’t make it as the King of Hell, there’s always cheese. π
