Don’t Give Up – An Illustrated Song
Â
The inspirations keep coming to me these days, and upon taking out my best-of cd of Peter Gabriel I stumbled upon this song I haven’t listened to in a very long time. It just sounded like written for our favourite characters. Enjoy.

Don’t Give Up
By Peter Gabriel
Â
In this proud land we grew up strongÂ
we were wanted all alongÂ
I was taught to fight, taught to winÂ
I never thought I could fail
Â
no fight left or so it seemsÂ
I am a man whose dreams have all desertedÂ
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my nameÂ
but no one wants you when you lose
Don’t give upÂ
‘cos you have friendsÂ
Â
Don’t give upÂ
You’re not beaten yetÂ
Don’t give upÂ
I know you can make it good
Â
Though I saw it all aroundÂ
Never thought I could be affectedÂ
Thought that we’d be the last to goÂ
It is so strange the way things turn
Â
Drove the night toward my homeÂ
The place that I was born, on the lakesideÂ
Â
As daylight broke, I saw the earthÂ
The trees had burned down to the ground
Â
Don’t give upÂ
You still have usÂ
Don’t give upÂ
We don’t need much of anythingÂ
Don’t give upÂ
’cause somewhere there’s a placeÂ
Where we belong
Â
Rest your headÂ
You worry too muchÂ
It’s going to be alrightÂ
When times get roughÂ
You can fall back on usÂ
Don’t give upÂ
Please don’t give up
Â
Got to walk out of hereÂ
I can’t take anymoreÂ
Going to stand on that bridgeÂ
Keep my eyes down belowÂ
Whatever may comeÂ
And whatever may goÂ
That river’s flowingÂ
That river’s flowing
Â
Moved on to another townÂ
Tried hard to settle downÂ
For every job, so many menÂ
So many men no-one needs
Â
Don’t give upÂ
’cause you have friendsÂ
Don’t give upÂ
You’re not the only oneÂ
Don’t give upÂ
No reason to be ashamedÂ
Don’t give upÂ
You still have usÂ
Don’t give up nowÂ
We’re proud of who you are
Â
Don’t give upÂ
You know it’s never been easyÂ
Don’t give upÂ
’cause I believe there’s the a placeÂ
There’s a place where we belong

Hi, CalifornianLeslie, dear, thank you! Happy that you like this pic. I just found the clip of 30 seconds to Mars on youtube, wow, what a fantastic video!!! Thanks so much for pointing that out.
It’s a blessing I have no idea how to make music videos, or I’d be sitting here doing nothing else, I reckon ;-). Then again, it might only be a matter of time… running Up That Hill is also a fantastic one. Do you happen to know the cover version from Placebo (here’s one link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzIkvAFQVnE, but I’m sure you know that one already)? Normally I don’t exactly like those, but this one is indeed great.
Thanks again, love Jas
Alice, did you just do that? Or is there a magic button I have unexpectedly pushed…? I put in a link and the video pops up?
I am impressed! and confused 🙂
Wow! Lovely. After reading the illustrated songs, I try to avoid listening to the YouTube versions as I can’t help tearing up.
I know the WInchester Brothers are fiction, but when confronted with the TV series, fanvids, pics, art manips, fan fiction (GenFic and Wincest), they make me ache terribly to protect the brothers. 😳
