Update – Name Sam’s Shirt Contest and Other Things
Every once in a while the need comes along to catch up on all those little misc items hanging around. After all, serious business must be settled. Like the “Name Sam’s Shirt” contest.
Voting on the name will be happening during the hiatus week of October 19th, so there’s plenty of time to throw more suggestions my way. And that’s more of a plea than a hint. Here’s all we have so far:
- Shirt of Angst
- The Sad Puppy Shirt
- Maudling
- Custos
- The Paisley Peril
- Deidre
- The Epic Shirt of Awesome
Also, stories, poems, whatever about how Sam found the shirt are welcome. So far, Karen submitted a fantastic poem that if you haven’t seen in the comments here, you should check it out.
On the fan convention front, I’m actually going to the Salute to Supernatural Convention in Chicago next month! A ticket in the General Admission section came free on Sunday, so I bought it and one for Saturday as well. I’m going to sit in the back of that big ballroom and observe the fan experience. I’ll be there in the bar drinking the super weak and completely wrong purple nurples and talking with everyone all weekend. If a rare chance comes up to ask Jared about the shirt too I’ll go for it, but that’s a slim chance, especially since I have no autographs or photo-ops. So, if you’re going and see an obnoxious redhead in the bar, chances are you’ve found me!
Okay, so it’s episode week. This week is “I Believe The Children Are Our Future.” Want a description?
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a series of odd murders that strangely resemble fairytales and urban legends. The brothers track down an 11-year-old boy named Jesse (guest star Gattlin Griffith) and realize that whatever Jesse believes is coming true. Castiel (Misha Collins) tells Sam and Dean that Jesse is a serious threat and needs to be eliminated. Charles Beeson directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin.
Next week, the show takes a break and “Sympathy For The Devil” will be repeated. After that, there will be four new episodes and then the show goes on its midseason hiatus until an undetermined date in January. Six weeks at least, maybe longer. Yes, another hellatus. I’m already strategizing how I’m going to handle that break as far as time passing articles for the site. This is where I might be asking for some feedback. But, I’m getting ahead of myself.
Okay, that’s all I’ve got for now. Tomorrow I’ll have the “Tell Us What You Think” thread up and let the sparks fly!

I’ll toss in:
Affliction Apparel
actually I guess that should be Sam (or Sammy’s) Affliction Apparel .. to specify that it is his (and not Dean’s)
How sad. S5 almost half way over.:
Not that you won’t come up with some fine Hellatus items, but one suggestion (and I know its admittedly limited appeal) is a top ten list (not one of *those*, the audience groaned) of individual episode music. Not the classic rock tunes, but the rest of the journey into sound.
I was rewatching some season one over the weekend while carefully avoiding our oldest’s sleepover (a house full of teenage girls is frightening) and I thought how wonderfully the music of Something Wicked illuminated the story itself.
I think you should do a piece on the title screen thing through the ages and over analyze how it has grown like the show. I was watching the episode last week and I paused on it and was squinting at it thinking about how it’s like blood dripped in water and how that could be an allusion to “blood is thicker than water” like the brothers (at that point I thought myself very clever) but that’s about where my thought process stopped. I was going to write a faux article on it as practice since I myself am a budding writer, but then I couldn’t remember what any of the other seasons’ so I gave up and decided I’d love reading one from you.
And I’ll feel really stupid if that whole schmuck has been done before. Or if you don’t want to do it, which is fine obviously as it’s your whole thing. =P
Affliction Apparel, Paisley Peril–me gusta mucho 😀 I liked Narcissus’ Rag of Doom too–made me giggle. I’ve restrained myself thus far, but I’ll go ahead and toss mine out: the Menswear Monstrosity. Yep, more alliteration. Sorry, folks, that’s all I’ve got…
A title card analysis? Sounds fun. My favorite by far was season 2, the burst of flames and the star fading into the A. Curious about what other think..maybe as a survey question?
You’ve got my vote for title card over-analysis! :geek:
And so far, I really like Paisley Peril, but for some reason the term reminds of me Persil, which is odd considering that we don’t even have that brand in my country hahah
I’m totally unconcerned with hellatus, considering what magnificence this site produced during the last hellatus. Although, sadly, the real reason is that I’ll be having exams around then..and even as it is now I’m already swamped..sigh, SN keeps me sane. Well actually SN drives me nuts, but you all know what I’m talking about 🙂
I’m going to Chicago too, so I hope to meet you! This will be my 1st SPN con & I’m very much looking forward to it.
Pfft hellatus, Supernatural isn’t even airing in Australia yet and doesn’t look like it’ll even start till next year! I have a question about the shirt – for the record, the paisley peril and the Rag of Doom (it really should be Narcissist’s Rag of Doom, that makes it even better) are my favourites – isn’t it just an even more embarrassing shirt worn inside out? That pale pink paisley design we see is just the other side of the really dark paisley on the inside, which should be the outside? Entirely pointless question, but just wondering if anyone knew for sure. Favourite title card – the crow wings from last season. Though I do like the heart pumping sounds in the current one. Thanks for this site alice, it is keeping me sane!
