What did I watch? And what did the Tumblrs see?
There was some abusive parenting in this episode starting with Lizzie Borden’s axe
murder of her father and step mother. Len believed the Uncle, their original
mother’s brother, did it to rescue the girls. Others, like Amara, believe
Lizzie did it. Many speculate and believe that the murders were due to
extensive abuse by the father. One of the reasons Lizzie and her sister never
married was not because the father refused to part with his wealth but because
he did not want the truth to be discovered by prospective son in laws. Who has
a bedroom that leads directly into their daughter’s room? Intrigued like Sam is?
You can research all about it online.
For a complete look at history’s Lizzie Borden, there is a website with detailed galleries and visual tours.
The site offers a crime library with every detail needed to understand this mystery.
This site also links to other websites such as The Lizzie Borden Society.
For real, the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast/Museum exists.

Parental/Child abuse was a theme in this episode starting with Lizzie and with continued glimpses throughout.
The desk clerk at the inn has an abusive controlling mother.
Jordie had parents who are described by Sydney as a, “Meth-dealing dad, slut mom.”
The mother seemed cold or soulless. Sydney, too, showed the scars of abusive parents who used her as a human ashtray.
People have different reactions to Violent Trauma as noted by the police detective.
We all have our ways of coping with damaged souls.
Traditional FEMININE IMAGERY exploded with, mirrors, Flowers, Perfume, Persian rugs and doilies, and Dolls.
And there is this complicated shot with Sam reflected in the mirror.
Sam couldn’t resist the squeezy thing.
Dean confuses EAU DE TOILETTE with toilet water.
PERSIAN RUGS AND DOILIES
What could be more traditionally feminine than dolls?
The dolls also tied into theme of the soulless.
People who no longer have souls are like dolls, mannequins, robots, droids, and puppets.
Another motif was all the references to “eyes.” (Crazy, serial killer eyes )
The Portraits with soulless eyes stared and created that creepy “being watched” feeling.
But, someone really liked to watch. Amara, the voyeur.
Sydney axes the girlfriend in the back.
But, who chain locked the door to prevent the XBF from escaping?
Who is watching here?
And is this beautiful location seen from Amara’s perspective?
If not, why does Dean look in that direction?
Is Dean like Sydney? Can he feel a connection? “I know that she can hear me. I can feel it. She’s close. She hasn’t
left me.” How about this shot where Dean looks exactly where Amara will appear?
As in the “Inside Man” Rashaad Ernesto Green likes to focus on the listener rather
than the speaker, capturing some beautiful thought provoking sidelong glances.
And the brothers’ silent communication is highlighted in this hilarious response to Len’s ramblings.
“Kitten videos, chicken and waffles, eucalyptus scent — don’t care for it anymore. Used to swoon for
dark, curly hair. Now? Not so much. Do you think I had a stroke? Or maybe it’s
a brain tumor. What’s really freaky is all the stuff that used to make my skin
crawl now seems…Eh.”
“I couldn’t shake a guy’s hand before. God, that wetness. Now I could lick the sweat off a stranger’s — Yeah,
any body part. I’m serious. I-I feel weird, man. …Like, something’s hatching
inside of me, something dark, with…wings.”
