What’s Your Supernatural Scene? #25

What are your thoughts on each of the following episodes?
Do you like it because of a scene, a moment, a line or song?

“Slash Fiction”
 

This episode was one of those where you are on the edge of your seat the whole time. It has several memorable scenes, Levi Sam and Dean putting the bank employee’s in the vault and then opening fire on them. Bobby kissing Jody when she unknowingly found a weapon against the Leviathans. Sam’s face when he learns from the Levi-Dean that Dean had killed Amy. The paranoid but informative Frank. However I have two scenes that sticks out the most for me:

First, the conversation between the Levi-Dean and Levi-Sam at the Conner’s Diner.  Levi-Dean is eating a burger and Levi-Sam is eating a salad.

LD:  You know, he has one of these every day. In his heart, he thinks they’re almost as good as sex. (He tosses it down on the plate) This is disgusting.
LS:  (Pushing away his salad.)  Dead plants with creamy goo. It’s like eating self- righteousness. You tell me which is worse.
LD: Honestly, I can’t stand the guy. Talk about a hero complex. He doesn’t have relationships, he has applications for sainthood. Oh, and he thinks he’s funny. He thinks he’s a damn comedian. 
LS: Who has two thumbs and a full blown bats in the belfry?  (Points to himself.) I’m serious. Nothing but Satan-vision on the inside. How he’s walking around in a jacket with attachable arms. . .beyond me. You know, I had a brother with this many issues once.
LD: Yeah?
LS: You know what I did? I ate him.
LD: Of course you did.
LS: How are these guys even a threat?
LD: Boss says they gotta go, they gotta go. 
LS: Right. Idea. Wanna trade? I’ll take Chuckles over Schizo.
LD: ( Looking himself over) Nah, I like this one’s hair better. You can stay in the big one.

The impersonators then go in for the kill of all the patrons.

 

The second is Sam and Dean in the stolen car. Dean is not happy about putting ‘Baby in lockdown’. After aggressively removing a toy Pegasus from the rear view mirror, Sam puts on the radio to help calm down Dean. ‘Can’t help this feeling’ by Air Supply comes on. Sam’s ready to turn if off but Dean stops him. Seconds later Dean is lip syncing the song. The facial expressions of both brothers were epic. I nearly fell out of my seat watching this the first time. Even now I still laugh.

“Everybody Hates Hitler”

I really enjoyed this episode, the storyline, the one liners and of course the bro moments.

It introduced us to the Men of Letter’s Bunker: ‘Sam, I think we found the Batcave’.

We learned of the Judah Initiative, the Thule Society and the Nazi Necromancers.

We met new characters Aaron and his Golem. “Everyone loves bacon!”, “The boy smoked the pages”, ” Oh my God, these guys are psychopaths” 

We were treated to a brief moment with veteran actor Hal Linden as Rabbi Isaac Bass.

I could go on and on, however, to pick what stood out for me the most… I have a tie of two moments.

First is Dean’s ‘gay thing’ with his introduction to Aaron.  Dean recognised him and confronted him in the Campus Pub.

 

Dean:  Special Agent Bolan (showing his FBI Badge, then lays it on the table and slides it to Aaron)

Aaron: Oh really? Wow I thought you were like a head hunter or something.

Dean: This is the second or third time I’m seeing you today. Why are you following me Gingerbread?

Aaron: Oh… so… we didn’t have a thing back there…huh?

Dean: Back where? What now?

Aaron: I’m sorry man. I thought . I thought we had a thing back at the quad. You know a little eye magic, a moment. (Dean slowly slides his badge back and picks it up.) I saw you here, figured I’d wait until you were done with your meeting and then maybe we might um I don’t know…

Dean: Yeah, okay, but no, no moment. This is a Federal Investigation.

Aaron: Is that suppose to make you less interesting? No I’m sorry man. I hope I didn’t freak you out or anything.

Dean: No, no I’m not …not freaked out. Just uh you know a Federal thing. Ah okay citizen as you were.

Aaron: You have a good night.

Dean: You, You have a (backs into a table) …Okay.

 

The second scene is at the end were Sam is cataloguing the information they collected from the Thule Society Red Ledger.

Dean: What are you doing? (Dean takes two beers from a mini fridge)

Sam: Ordering. I’m making a card entry for our copies from the Thule’s Red Ledger for our collection.

Dean: (Dean puts the two beers back.) So uh what? Aaron’s a JI and you’re a Man of Letters now?

Sam thinks on it and half laughs. Dean walks over to a little table with a decanter of liquor on it. He pours two glasses and brings Sam a glass.

Dean: Good.

Sam takes the glass as Dean sits across the table and puts his feet up. They both raise their glasses and drink. This whole time the record player has been playing Frankie Laine’s ‘Sunny Side of the Street’

 

“Mother’s Little Helper”

This was another episode I really enjoyed. I liked the back story of Henry and Josie and learning how Josie became possessed by Abaddon.

I loved all the moments between Sam and Julia and between Dean and Crowley. The pairing of these four worked so well for me and the one liners were epic, especially from Crowley and Julia.

Crowley: “You’re lying to Sam like he’s your wife. Which kind of makes me your mistress.”

Crowley: “I’m going to go water the lily, care to cross streams?”

Julia: I’m an ex-nun, sweetie. Complicated is my middle name.

Julia: Don’t patronize me, you little turd!

 

It’s hard to pick just one scene with this episode but I think the one the hit me the most was the last scene between Sam and Julia when they’re leaving the police station. Sam runs up to Julia:

Sam:  You know um, can I ask you something?
Julia: If it’s for a date, I’m sorry. I never see anyone under 65. Too much drama. (both laugh) Come on, spit it out.
Sam: After witnessing what you did, why didn’t you warn Henry about Abaddon?
Julia: I became a nun because I wanted to help people; make a difference. But they never prepare you. They never tell you how to act in the face of true evil. Soon after I left the order.

Sam: Why?

Julia: Because I was ashamed. I had betrayed our flock, God, myself. It was and still is my greatest shame.

Sam: Well what you shared with me saved lives. And I couldn’t have done that without you. Take care.

Julia: You too Sam.

“About a Boy”

This was a fun episode. Actor Dylan Everett did a fantastic job playing the young Dean.  I loved the facial expressions from Sam. The look when young Dean first arrives at the motel, when the Lady commented on how polite his son was. With this one I have two moments. First is the entire car ride with Sam and young Dean. Starting with young Dean pulling the seat up to drive and sending Sam’s knee’s into his chest. Poor Sam with his ‘Maybe I should drive…seat, seat!’

Then Dean explaining what he’s going through being in his young body. The liking of a Taylor Swift song and his having ‘zero control ‘ over his manly parts ‘It’s up, it’s down, it’s up for no reason…’ And finding one ‘up side’ to this ‘ whole freak show’,  no Mark of Cain. Hinting that maybe turning back is not such a good idea.

Dean: Look I’m not a fan either but Sam this is problem solved and I’m still me. I can still hunt. I’m just..you know, dewier.

Sam: Ok look you have a point kind of but dude..

Dean: I know.  Some good news though..virgin liver. So what do you say when we’re done doing our hero thing we take it out for a test drive.

Sam: Yeah sure. I mean you can drink again in what like seven years?

Dean: That’s not funny.

Sam: That’s kind of funny.

Dean: That’s not funny.

Sam: Come on dude, it’s kind of funny.

 

Second is when they arrive at the window were young Dean had escaped.

Dean: Still open. Tina? Alright lets go.

Sam: Dean I’m way too big to fit in there.

Dean: First time you ever had to say that uh?

Sam: Big talk coming for the dude wearing underoos.

Dean: Ok, good one. Here, why don’t you go round back, look for another way in.
