The synopsis for the Supernatural season 13 finale SUPERNATURAL “Let the Good Times Roll” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV) IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS – Our heroes, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester, continue to be tested in the battle between good and evil, but one impulsive decision…
I hope this will lead to Dean explicitly stating that Sam is not to be blamed for Dean having the mark of Cain or for Dean having been turned into a demon…
I think the clip shows that researching the subject isn’t easy. Sam had done his best but there hadn’t been enough time.
I am not sure why that is necessary. I don’t believe Dean blames Sam. I think he blames himself, it was his choices that got him there, and furthermore I don’t think Sam feels responsible for that either.
Some thought badly of Sam last season because they felt that Sam hadn’t done enough for Dean when the mark of Cain had been changing Dean. There are even fans who still believe that Sam had been wrong to be angry at Dean because Sam had driven Dean into taking the mark of Cain.
I think it would be good if Dean confirmed that he doesn’t think Sam is in any way responsible for Dean having the mark of Cain or for Dean having ended up as a demon.
It is easier to think badly of Sam than to be honest about Dean for some. I am not sure having Dean verbally state the obvious would make much difference , those that have thought badly of Sam for his reaction to forced/tricked possession are not going to easily change their view on blaming Sam.
Some of those fans do have a bad habit of forgetting about canon. (Sam’s words to Dean in 9.13 The Purge supposedly led to Dean taking the mark of Cain even though Dean had already gotten the mark in 9.11 First Born.)
Hi SanSummer 1, Sadly there are fans who are determined to find fault with every move Sam makes or doesn’t. As there are fans who never see anything good in Dean. I never understand it or feel that way. My least favorite part of the fandom. But honestly nothing the show does is going to change that.
I guess my wish was that if Dean said outright that Sam had nothing to do with how badly things turned out, it couldn’t be ignored. But maybe it would just get twisted around so Sam would be the bad brother again. “Dean always has to crawl back to Sam,” etc.
I do think it’s likely that Sam has blamed himself and not just Crowley for what happened to Dean. Sam knows that Dean appreciates Sam helping him when he had been a demon. However, they haven’t talked about the time period when Dean got the mark of Cain and started to change for the worse.
It’s probably because I’ve been in grad school for far too long, but I would totally read that werewolf thesis : )
