TV Fanatic Interview With Jared Padalecki – Season 10 Reveals about Sam!
Here’s a long and very revealing interview with Jared Padalecki from Jim Halterman at TV Fanatic. Jared shares some very interesting tidbits about season ten we haven’t heard before.
For one, it looks like episode 10.01 takes place a few months after the finale. Also, Sam and Dean are going to be apart for several episodes. Also, Sam is pretty much in his search alone. He’s using the Men of Letters library and other hunters, but Castiel won’t be able to help much. It’ll also take a few episodes for him to figure out Crowley is responsible for what happened to Dean.
He also talks a bit about how he found season seven very difficult and is pleased that since Carver has come aboard he can get excited about the show again. He’s very excited about season ten. But here’s an answer that will definitely spark some debate among fans:
TVF: Relationships are always hard for Sam and Dean, whether it’s how the fans react to them or just the fact that what these guys do. Would you like to see a relationship at least sustain itself for a whole season? Or does that just not really have a place in the show?
JP: If you’d have asked me this a while ago I would have said yes, but knowing the show how I know the show now and knowing the character as another character now, I don’t think there should be a relationship. I don’t think there should. Just in the same reason I don’t think Sam and Dean should be alive at the end of the series unless we do a movie or something.
But I feel like Sam and Dean are Sam and Dean because Sam and Dean keep on keeping on and do whatever they can to make the world a better place and don’t really allow for distractions. Is it interesting to see Sam in a relationship or Dean in a relationship? Sure. I mean I’d love to read a fan fiction book about it or something but when the show is done.
In the meantime, I think Sam and Dean have a different purpose and I feel like they know their purpose. Sam in season one and even two and three with Ruby, which worked out, I guess, for me, he either was in denial about his purpose or he truly didn’t yet know but I feel like now these guys know. They’re like no bullshit, I know why I’m here and I can’t avoid anymore. I can’t just keep denying what’s right in front of me.
TVF: It’s like accepting your destiny or something.
JP: Exactly. I think their destiny has been made abundantly clear to them, so if they don’t accept it then it’s their own damn fault.
This is a great interview overall and I highly suggest reading it all before posting any comments here about it. What do you think about Sam’s role?
The more I hear about the season the more I am exited about it. What both of the actors tell about the season… Well, I just can’t wait.
Padalecki is actually telling it almost like I thought it would go or how I see it would. (Or you could call makes sense) I am still scared about how they will make Demon!Dean, but I like very much what I hear about Sam. Crowley will be Winchestered and then some from both sides and even more. And that is the way we like it.
Is it October yet? I mean reeeeeeally? *sigh*

Hmmm . . . it sounds like what should have happened in S8 will finally happen in S10 w/Sam actually looking for his brother and trying to save him instead of cutting tail and finding a girlfriend.
I would get excited but I’ve been fooled by this show before. It all sounds good on paper, but the execution can be sorely lacking at times. Plus, I love Jared but what he finds exciting or good is not always good or exciting to me. Hmmm . . . we’ll see.
Nothing of interest to me.I think I have to wait for the answers of the questions I have in the s10.
I thought this was a pretty good interview. Intriguing concepts. I enjoy hearing how excited the guys are for the season. Of course, they haven’t seen many of the scripts yet….. (I found that last summer, JP especially was so excited for what he was getting to play with…. and while I get that he was excited to play Gadreel, I didn’t think the plotline as a whole warranted that level of excitement…. So I guess I love to hear their excitement, and hope the writers can do it justice).
Not so much impressed with Jeremy Carver’s interview, though. He’s said a few things that, imo, is discouraging. It is not totally the direction I want the characters to go…. so again, cautious optimism?
I’ll just wait and see.
Is there a new JC interview?
I like what JP says about what’s coming for Sam’s. I agree with lala that it should have been the season 8 story but later is better than never I guess. My worry is that Jared often talks about what his character is doing or thinking but it’s offscreen or ends up on the cutting room floor. So I guess we’ll see. Also, I didn’t think that he was as enthusiastic as usual about the new season. From what I read, he seems a bit guarded about the end of the series, and his comments about Sam not being beaten to the ground into something he wouldn’t respect worry me a little. To me, it’s like he’s putting the writers on notice, not that I would blame him. Or maybe I’m projecting.
Yes, there is a new interview with Carver. The article about it is here (”https://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/spoilers/18646-interview-with-jeremy-carver-on-supernatural-season-10″).
It was a good interview and I am with Jared here. The relationship idea has never worked (and was a big fail with Amelia) that is a storyline that is best left out of the show. I was hoping that Sam was going to walk back to Dean’s room at the season opener instead of time jumps and flashbacks. As long as we get to see Sam tearing up the MOL and the countryside I’m on board. I’m sure there are going to be more spoilers coming out this week particularly. I am very excited for S10 so far. Jared’s enthusiasm is always so infectious. I know it hasn’t always panned out but I can’t help it…if the J’s are still on board so am I.
I think Carver’s interview is now up on this site, so I wont’ discuss it here.
I’d love to have someone ask about how limiting Jared’s injury is going to be. While he’s not wearing the sling/brace in the interviews, he’s not moving that arm very much, and he does still wear the brace a lot in casual photos. I’m worried about his range of motion – We’ve had shoulder issues in the family, and range of motion was definitely a concern for quite some time…. I wonder how it will impact filming – and if it will impact how they write for Sam.
I’m also. I was surprised he is still wearing it but the injury must have been pretty bad. I hope though that it gets better. 🙂

I can ask him that at Comic Con if no one beats me to it. I’m sure that will be a question on everyone’s mind.
He’s not allowed to move the arm very much. The biggest risk with an injury like that is the shoulder could become dislocated again so that’s why he has to wear the sling. Unfortunately, timelines for healing that kind of injury run 12-16 weeks! I believe it only happened about 7 or 8 weeks ago. He’ll still be in that thing a while.
Thanks alice! That would be great.
And thanks for the information. Confirmed my thoughts…. and add on physiotherapy after that time…. I bet StuntCarpy is going to be earning his salary this season!
My understanding is that Jared actually fractured something as well as having the dislocation. Granted, I got this from trolling the internet, so who knows how accurate the information is…but if that’s true, Jared is in for a loooooong recovery. Good thing Jared’s brother is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder injuries! 😀
E, Clif actually tweeted something to that effect, and then deleted it. So whether he was wrong, or thought better of sharing that information, I don’t know. I was really hoping it was wrong, since he’s not a medical professional….. But yes. Thank goodness for Dr.P looking out for his baby brother. 😉
If they handle it like they did when Jared broke his arm, he may well be injured in the premier and then in a sling until it’s fully healed. I’m sure they will make sure they don’t make the injury worse.
I’m sure you’re right, percy, and as long as they don’t make him any more of a “Samsel” this season, I’ll be happy! My concern is how they’ll write Sam in order to protect Jared.
I’m thinking that Sam will have to be very self-sufficient out of necessity this year. Sam with one good arm and lots of awesome weapons is still a formidable and scary foe, especially when his brothers soul is at stake. That’s how I see it.
My guess is Jared will have a light first half of the season anyway and Sam is rarely ever involved in action shots unless he’s being knocked out so I dont think the injury will be too much of a problem.
I love this interview.

TVF: Do you think it’s taking us back to the demon hunter element of the show?
JP: Absolutely. That is a big part of it. It’s almost a reset or a restart.

Yes!! I can’t wait!
Lone Wolf!Sam makes me think of Mystery Spot!Sam which got me all tingly. And I love that we are finally seeing the Sam we should have seen in S8, the one frantically searching for his brother.
Now I am officially excited for S10. Albeit with a few worries after reading Carver’s interview.
Sam has always been a bit of a lone wolf, so it makes sense to the character. They dont usually have Sam interact with anyone but Dean, he doesnt have friends or allies or family really so I can cope with Lone Wolf Sam I guess. I dont expect to be seeing much of Sam’s side of the story anyway, sense the show is told through Dean’s POV and they will be separated for a least the first few episodes so it would make sense if the show is Sam light untill the brothers start hunting together again.
