Here are the promotional pictures for Wednesday’s episode.
The Prisoner
Well it looks like The Prisoner may be Dean and he’s being held by the Stynes. Charlie seems to be truly dead as I assume she’s the one on the pyre. Sam is still working with Rowena and Cas. Cas gets stuck on Rowena watching duty. What do you think of these pictures? Are the Stynes trying to “harvest” Dean? Will Sam, Rowena and Cas continue to work on decoding the Book of the Damned?Any ideas on what will happen on Wednesday? Let us know in the comments.
With Supernatural having a small presence at the TCA's this week, a number of conversations with Jeremy Carver and Misha Collins have been coming up. I've posted a few of those interviews here, but how about a Jeremy Carver soundbite to go with it! This is from the latest "Ask Ausiello" at TVLine. It's a…

The synopsis for Supernatural season 15 episode 8 “Our Father, Who Aren’t in Heaven” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV) GOD BLESSES HIM WHO HELPS HIS BROTHER – Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel’s (Misha Collins) continued search for a way to defeat Chuck (guest star Rob Benedict) leads them to…
I have no idea what will happen, but I want to see Dean the assassin on a big, impressive massacre. I hope it is more than a quick minute. Excited for next week.
So Dean is the prisoner. Yeah, cause he’s had nothing else to do this season.. And Sam appears to barely even be in the episode cause he’s been so overused this season.
It is nice to see them building the pyre for a change thats normally glossed over – I suppose they will have a big emotional song to go with that. Dean is out getting revenge on the Stynes and then caught – I hope he goes out ALL VENGEFULL DEAN with flashing black eyes and all – Dean is getting WORSE AFTER ALL ;););) And Sam well he appears to be still searching for a cure and probably getting a ear full from Rowenna – I told Charlie she would die hanging around you guys Blah Blah Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hi Guys just another thought – I wonder while building the pyre for Charlie whether the boys will have a nice long chat about everything thus pulling the whole season together. A nice bro moment I have a question — Dean can’t be killed the mark wont let him die Dean appears to be going Demony !!! If they remove the mark thats step one ( Yes ) It won’t be a cure all though will it. Because he may still be a demon (or a knight of hell ) they don’t think the blood cure will work a second time so what happens ?????????? Misha said n one of his interviews that they are going to make a sacrifice, one that the 3 of them will have to live with ??? So I don’t see Cas dying ?? Also one of our members metioned that Jared said at a convention that they are gonna kill of the red heads ??? So maybe Rowenna is a sacrifice not that that would bother them
Hi Guys just another thought – I wonder while building the pyre for Charlie whether the boys will have a nice long chat about everything thus pulling the whole season together. A nice bro moment
That’s what this show desperately needs right now – and it should be the opening scene pre title/splash screen. Not some 20 second montage with ill-fitting music, but a good 3 or so minutes of the boys hashing it out (without belligerence) whilst building the pyre, silence as the flame is lit, 15 seconds of nothing but a roaring fire and wood crackling, then either brother (though even better if it was Sam, slightly welled up, as he does feel guilty – that’s just Sam) saying “so then, let’s kill them all”. Shot of both brothers faces as Dean cheekily grins.
TITLE SCREEN!
Both brothers on the same page. Dean getting captured was deliberately planned by both brothers … and they go on a rampage as the Styne’s are wiped out so we never have to deal with them again leaving season 11 open for a hint of quality.
The Styne’s were wonderfully enigmatic, even after Jacob was killed. Then Dark Dynasty happened.
I’d imagined them as the anti-Men of Letters. Possibly original members turned rogue, blinded by the power that their knowledge gave them … or maybe the direct reason MOL came to fruition. MOL created to combat the evil the Styne’s promoted and profiteered from.
But no … we get lame-arse unimaginative horseshit.
You know, it’s amazing to me how quickly they took the concept of the Stynes and completely ruined it…. I mean it’s got to be a record; from intriguing to preposterous in four episodes and the two episodes in between didn’t even mention the Stynes. How are the Stynes NOT Bloodlines all over again? Why do they have to be “massive, and everywhere.” So, this giant, massive, world wide family/organization who kills people and experiments on humans are functioning all over the world in complete anonymity and have been for centuries? They must be cousins with the five monster families in Chicago. It’s absurd and utterly implausible. And having them be connected to Frankenstein, as in the novel, is just the rotten icing on this rotten cake. Its just so stupid. I’d had an idea for how they could have made the Stynes really creepy, fun and REAL; what if they were a small family, had been working in secrecy on their obsession for a long time and took advantage of times of upheaval to really expand their harvesting and experimentation? What if they were connected to Joseph Mengele? So instead of Mary Shelley writing a book that caused them to have to go underground, they had a too ambitious member in Joseph Mengele who blew their cover during the war? They could have easily tied that back into the Nazi Necromancers and probably even worked in creepy Dr. Benton. Then when Joseph Mengele was exposed during the war the family changed it’s name to Styne as a kind of homage to the ideal of their philosophy in Frankenstein; a kind of sick little inside joke if you will. But no, they went with obvious and over the top and per usual and ruined what could have been an interesting potential big bad for next season. I can’t begin to take any of them seriously especially if there is a moron like Elden in their midst; I wonder how they manage to stay under the radar for as long as they have with him running around with one arm, banging on door and screaming… no one saw or heard this? grrr.
I can’t understand either why they have taken what could have been a perfectly good story line and smashed it to bits. None of us are writers (professional) we are just very passionate fans, and jet we can see a great story line and often write one. And there not stupid or they don’t play 100% to what we won’t, they are just damn good stories. At first I liked the idea of Frankenstein then reading here and thinking on it How Dumb. Why couldn’t we have a rogue section of MOL – where they have taken all the witch knowledge and spells and built up a formable clan or The necromancer story line that was already set up. And there are a million other ways the MOC could have been set off in Dean other the killing Charlie – I watch and re-watch earlier seasons when the boys were more together their relationship wasn’t perfect but it was better than it is now. Trying to mature the characters of SAM & DEAN WHAT alot of bull shit. all their doing is trying to PULL THEM APART. I can’t see how they could look at each other let alone care for each other after this season. Love & family can only take so much there comes a time when enough is enough. You have to wonder how this season has affected their relationship and life outside of work I know its just a show and when they call CUT that should be the end of it. But this is 2 Guys who spend alot of time together. I love Sam his me – I have a similar personality to him. Insecure, low self esteem, sensive, caring & loving, he needs alot of praise to feel good about himself. I love Dean his what I won’t to be, Stronger, more to hell with it, but still insecrure, and sensitive, I usually hang out with people with Dean’s qualities. So unless the boys can truly cut themselves off when they go home (doubtfull) they wouldn’t be having a good summer break. I too have looked around other SPN sites the angst toward Sam doesn’t appear to be too bad – as one poster thought although we probably checked different sites.
1. I replied in another post – I believe Cas can’t bring Charlie back because he isn’t connected to heaven Cas metioned this in a earlier Ep in a different season when Dean asked him to save someone. Bobby maybe in the wheel chair. But Gadreel brought Charlie & Cas back and that was when heaven was closed – very inconsistent. 2. Cas hasn’t got his grace back not all of it so his wings are broken 3. They use a portal to heaven in the playground to come up & down from heaven – i believe because none of the angels fly ?? 4. Cas has to be blown totally to pieces to die so even if he sacrifices himself for Dean – can he die permanetly ?? 5. Crowley talking to a hampster seems silly but I liked it was funny 6. I reckon Roweena is dead – Crowely & Cas are on some sort of show contract arn’t they Anyway thats my Blah Blah Blahhhhhhhhhhhh Sorry if your all bored now. And I’m starting to understand how important Canon is – There isn’t any any more Love Jen xxoo
You know I am not convinced by Charlies death at all. And I am not convinced by the pyre either. here is my reasoning: Apparently the Stynes are after Charlie and they won’t give up as long as they think she is alive Cas ought to be able to cure her, it seems odd that he cannot Dean is still on the rails enough that he can build a pyre. Really? I thought the point of Charlie’s death was to send him off headlong. Dean is actually communicating with Sam. And isn’t using his fists. We aren’t getting to see the really biting Dean we usually get when he thinks Sam has done something bad (though of course there is only a clip) and those are the three only options with Dean at a point like this: accusing silence (example: Metamorphosis), sarcasm (example: early Season 8) or violence.
So say Cas cures Charlie, Dean calms down a bit, the guys plan a pyre somewhere there is a good chance they can be spied on, Charlie is now safe enough. The guys plan to take out the Stynes for trying to kill Charlie and for being all-round lowlives. However the Styne family, who have worked out the chop-shop value of Dean with the mark, kidnap him. And it is that attack that sets Dean off to completely lose it to the mark as a result of killing everyone he can get his hands on. Though even at that I notice that the non-combatant, even though she is complicit in torture and dismemberment, is not being killed – that is very controlled for a berserker isn’t it?
Sam in the meantime still has Cas and Rowena hidden out because he knows that death or no death they have to solve Dean’s problem, both for Dean and for everyone else’s safety. This will give Dean the push to kill both Cas and Sam once the rampage he is on has flipped him over to the darkside.
I would like that storyline.
ETA: I mean I would like most of the storyline, not the killing Sam and Cas bit :p That is the nail-chewing drama bit….
Spoiler*** (I guess) [the more returns I put on this the longer the comment gets in the recent comments box which makes it look way more significant than it is – while still showing the spoilery bit so it is a double waste of time – so I will just keep typing for a bit …]
Apparently (according to Asylum) Charlie is, in fact, really dead and it was an unpopular decision behind the scenes.
Did anyone say who came up with this idea? RT didn’t seem all that happy about it.
TPTB. Names were not named – but Jim Michaels and RT were in the no-kill camp (this comes from Jim’s panel).
Thanks
Did they give any more details on this? I’m not surprised that RT was against it, but I wonder why he didn’t get to write the episode. Now I’m wondering how they all felt about killing off Kevin.
Kevin’s death was understandable. They were running out of reasons for why he wasn’t wandering around the bunker all the time. Osric wasn’t going to be made a third star and he supposedly couldn’t leave the bunker because angel and demons were after him. So poor Kevin had to go. Charlie didn’t live there and only dropped in occasionally. So her death was for shock and awe but no real logical reason.
Kevin’s death was also inevitable. He was doomed the second he was tagged as a Prophet. Without the Winchesters bringing him in and giving him shelter, he’d have had a rather uncomfortable experience with Angels, Demons, and Leviathan all gunning for him.
At least Sam & Dean let him see his mother again.
The decision was cheap, schlocky, and unimaginative; must have come from the showrunners.
SWEEPS week or month i.e., shock value
That shit had Jeremy Carver written all over it. Just look at his hairdo.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Unlike most of you, I have no problem with killing off Charlie and NOT because I hated the character. I think that like Kevin, they had nowhere left to go with her once they wrote that dumb episode in Season 8 where she decided to be a hunter. I think that’s why they sent her to Oz. She was NEVER going to be a convincing hunter, much less a solo one. Then when they decided to bring her back as uber-hunter they were really boxed in. It wouldn’t have been in any way credible for her to leave the boys and set up shop as a hunter on her own, no matter how kick-ass she’d become. They could have just had her quit the life and go back to computer genius things, but there would have been very little reason for her to cross paths with the boys again, so they figured might as well kill her off to set Dean off. My original thought after the episode was that it was ridiculous to have her make the foolish choice to go off on her own; she’s supposed to be a genius, and the pretext for having her leave was damn flimsy (“Cas, Rowena is being soooooo mean and annoying!”). But now I’m really glad they did it that way because it puts the responsibility for her death on her own shoulders instead of Sam’s. I’m not saying that’s WHY the writers had her go off on her own, because they don’t much care whether or not Sam is the goat, but it worked for me. And in terms of her brutal, lonely death, again, I think that was preferable to some melodramatic death scene with the brothers. These writers would have butchered it and it would have come off cheesy and ridiculous. I actually thought one of the best scenes in the ep was the brothers’ discovery of her body. I loved the looks on their faces. Finally, as I said in a comment on another thread, I’m bemused by the outrage about her death. This is SPN where the one constant has been death and loss for the brothers, right from the very first episode, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Bobby once said something like hunters don’t tend to live long lives, and since you can’t kill off the boys, everyone else has to be at risk or there are no stakes in the show, and you just have a typical drama. As much as I still miss Bobby, I have no problem with the decision to kill him off, or Kevin, Ellen, Jo, etc. One reason for the intense relationship between the brothers is because through all of the losses they’ve suffered, they’ve still always had each other. So while I can see people objecting to the manner in which her death was set up/occurred, or being sad that a character they loved is gone, I really don’t get the sense of outrage. What show have they been watching all these years?
I objected to her death because for purely mechanical i.e. writing reasons. In a poorly written episode it was one of the most poorly written moments. And Sam’s fault or not, Dean will blame him, the show will blame him, fandom will blame him…. the same as they are blaming him for the MoC and that wasn’t his fault either.
And actually, in your post the comment about Rowena being annoying. I noticed that Cas was attempting to separate them he was taking Rowena into another room. So, that begs the question…. why was Cas unlocking Rowena to take her into another room when Charlie could have just gotten up and taken herself and her ultra ninja all powerful Surface into the room her damned self? Then she could have shut the door, Rowena would have been chained up in the other room and voila! “me time.” Plot holes the size of Mt. Rushmore.
As The Carver says at the beginning of each writer’s meeting, “Don’t start in with that logic shit again”. 🙂
Hmmmmm… didn’t you use this quote on me before? :p
yes, but it’s worth repeating, especially after the last “episode” :D:D:D
Yes, I agree that it was ridiculous for Charlie to go off on her own, at least for the reasons given. But it makes her death harder to blame on Sam, so I’m glad for the way it unfolded. It’s too much to ask these writers to give an actually credible reason for Charlie to take off.
Oh don’t you worry, they’ll manage to blame just fine.
IT was NOT Sam’s fault. PERIOD
I know he isn’t to blame NOLANOLA, I was just referring to the shows tendency to lay blame at Sam’s feet even when he’s not to blame. Case in point the MoC; currently Sam is on some kind of redemption arc because he feels responsible for Dean having the mark and the show is backing up this feeling by making him do reckless and now destructive things to save Dean. Not only has Sam been made responsible for the MoC, but he’s also going to be made to bear the brunt of Charlies’ death and everyone will forget WHY he’s doing it in the first place, which is because Dean went out and damned himself with this stupid mark and refused to listen to any of the warnings that he shouldn’t act so recklessly.
I know you are a sam woman and I a dean woman but I never understood how sam was at fault for DEAN getting the MoC. please explain
I’m right there with you.
Despite the anomaly that was Charlie Norris: Super Ninja a few episodes back, her death was always on the cards. I’d have thoroughly enjoyed a Charlie that could contribute more throughout the season, but with this creative staff, that was a long shot.
Charlie has always been naive about the Supernatural world, and has always had an overly fanciful idea of what the world of hunting is all about. She went out exactly as she should have. Scared and stupid.
But.. .but… she was a seasoned hunter with her own “woe is me.. the life of a hunter” monologue!
I would love this.. it’s clever and uses the idea of what we thinks is going to happen with the mark almost against itself. Do you really think they will do it? The reason I am skeptical is because of Dark Dynasty. They were so ham fisted with Sam, literally piling on the guilt and endlessly showcasing how “wrong” he was being, how it “reeked” how it “never worked well” blah, blah, blah….. so much so that I began to believe that they were setting up a reversal. String us along with how bad an idea this is and BAM! out of the blue it works! But no, the writing was THAT obvious, THAT on the nose… the anvils were dropping so fast and thick no one was spared from being squashed. So, I am not convinced that these writers could be that clever. I can hope though.
It seems we have a crossover of posts? I don’t suppose you are replying to my spoiler? :p No it appears on more recent information that they actually are that ham fisted and that moose hunting season is just a thing they like to set up. I am somewhat worried for Jared that he is doing a panel on his own tomorrow – I don’t imagine he is looking forward to that much … I hope people behave.
No, I was replying to your very creative idea of how the writers didn’t subject Charlie to one of the most shameful and lonely deaths this show has ever done. I didn’t have a lot of love for Charlie as a character, but the way they wrote her and had her die was just deplorable. She was a victim of the plot more than anything and her death made me sad. She was very poorly treated…. made to look stupid before she died. I suppose they were trying to make her look heroic with her uploading and shit, but it didn’t work because she was only caught having to do that because she was a moron beforehand and basically ushered in her own death. She got the Sam treatment for sure. That bus is getting a work out this season; after it mowed down Sam it sideswiped Charlie on it’s way out of town. I think (hope) TPTB are going to regret what they’ve done. People are pissed…. not sad, not moved, not sympathetic… they are pissed and rightfully so.
Why is he doing a panel alone? I thought whenever both Js are at a con they do their panel together.
It doesn’t look like Jensen is there yet. Maybe he is coming in too late to do his panel with Jared.
Jensen and Jared have done solo panels at Asylum and JIBcon because they have more time during a summer hiatus.
This year at Asylum there will be no J2 panel but instead Jensen, Jared and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will do two panels together.
Poor Jared. I really hope that nobody goes after him… you know, verbally. He’s probably incredibly nervous. I hope everyone treats him with the respect he deserves… he didn’t make the stupid decision to send the story in this direction, but he’s ended up the scapegoat AGAIN.
That’s awesome that there’s be a J3 panel. I hope that ends up on Youtube soon.!
Agreed. Lambasting creative decision makers and bad writing is one thing, but attacking the people pretending to be characters is a whole new level of retardese.
I’ve never been one to shy away from voicing my opinion, but there is a level of SPN fandom that has achieved a rather unhealthy disconnect from reality.
Long before now I surmised that spn fans are like soap opera fans and cant distinguish the actor from the role. NOT ALL OF US.
So far according to tweets it is going really well.
Cheryl I love it. You are our Club Reporter. xxo :):):):)
Jeff looks great. Lost some weight.
Yes, thanks for being on top of this Cheryl I’m starting to rely on you as our Club Reporter! I love their hiatus beards, and I’d love to know what prompted that nice hug.
These are great. Jared is such a hug monkey.
I looked at the schedule – there are two halls, they do individual panels in separate halls, then switch halls and repeat tomorrow.
jonny on the spot 🙂
Yes, both Jared and Jensen will have two solo panels but at the same time. So on Saturday people can attend either Jensen or Jared’s panel and on Sunday go to the other one’s. Or I guess some hardcore fans of either Jensen or Jared will want to go to both of the solo panels the actor in question has.
And people can attend J3’s panel and the next day watch Samantha Smith’s panel or vice versa but I have a feeling that many people tried to opt for seeing J3 two times…
Maybe it’s all predetermined depending on the tickets one has so pretty much no one can go to the “same” panels twice due to limited seating?
Thanks. I’d imagine it is a very different experience seeing a solo panel than a J2 panel. It must be very different for the Js too- nobody to play off of. I’m curious to see what a solo panel is like so I hope some videos make it online.
I’ve never been to a con but I’ve watched a ton of video. Jared used to do a lot of solo panels as he was more into conventions early on than Jensen was. Probably the best solo panel I’ve seen is Jared’s Boston panel from 2011. There is an absolutely epic moment when a fan (a very brave, very quick witted fan) asks Jared about the worst outfit he ever had to wear as an actor. Look it up, it’s hysterical…..”Jared at Boston Con worst outfit” :p:p:p:p
Thank you so much E. That was hilarious, and that fan WAS quick witted. Jared was really cute and very funny. I love how he engages with the fans- the way he immediately went to give her a hug. I try to watch a lot of the con videos since I started watching the show, but there’s years worth that I will never have the time to go back and watch. But this one was definitely worth it.
LOL One of my all time favorites! the mike drop, the hug, the strutting (and the security guard you can see in the background of one angle of the clip 😀 – he doesn’t crack, but he comes close).
Mind you he can tell a funny story well – the train story with added physical effects …..
I just love all the panels… Jared is such a smiling type guy, demonstrative, witty and fun. Sam never gets to be those things so its nice to see Jared being so relaxed. It’s nice to see him smile.
Please, please, please, let Rowena be the sacrifice. She has overstayed her welcome big time.
Wow Russ, what a whack job you are to even suggest that the brothers talk something out like adults and try to openly and honestly address the issues between them! And for them to actually be on the same page and working together like a team? That’s just CRAZY! And how would that possibly fit in with Carver’s touted arc in which the brothers build a more mature relationship? Oh wait, that actually WOULD fit in….never mind.
Seriously, am I imagining it or did Carver say he was going to tear down their relationship and have them develop a more mature one? Well, the tearing down has been going on since Carver took over- when does the building of a more mature relationship begin? Or did it happen for just a second in one episode while I was blinking and I missed it? It makes me wonder what Carver’s relationship with his siblings is like if he considers this angst fest normal and mature.
Thanks Russ, samandean it would be lovely wouldn’t it – And Russ’s end note about the boys planning everything TOGETHER I LIKED THAT I noticed in the video clip, that Dean looks at Sam very, very menancingly and says I’m going to kill them all, everybody they love – everybody. He didn’t look away from Sammy once – that to me was very scary.
OK Russ where’s the clip you don’t like writing REMEMBER LOL
I’ve been trying to write a Supernatural piece that I want to turn into a graphic novel, and their introduction of the Styne family changed my entire story … then the Frankenweenie nonsense happened – so I’ve scrapped it and gone back to my original idea, with maybe a throwaway Styne reference as a parting insult to the very idea of them.
But I’m no writer, so I’m spending more time researching than writing at this point …
OK.. weird. This was in reply to eilf upthread and the reply is there, but now its here too…. Russ, you must be going “huh? What’s she going on about?”
To your post I was planning to encourage you to write your graphic novel anyway and ignore the stupid Frankenstein thing…. the Stynes should be related to Mengele…. I am obsessed with this idea. Can you imagine how creepy it would have/could have been? Have you ever researched that guy? He’s super creep… very disturbing stuff. And he’s REAL…. see that writers that’s how you keep your show grounded… seek out the creepy stuff in the world that is actually real instead of resorting to fiction. Way to take any and all menace out of it.
They definitely missed the mark going with the Frankenweenie drivel.
I think it was the thing with the eyes that made me think of Mengele. Apparently he had a thing for peoples eyes, would experiment on them and try to change them from brown to blue (freak!). No, you can’t change someone’s eye color by injecting blue chemicals into them.. .but you CAN blind them.
Hand to Chuck, there’s a rapper whose wife got her eyes changed in BRAZIL from brown to blue. nolanola9 on twitter.:)
Lots of NAZIs went to live in South America. jsyk. Brazil fits the bill. 🙁
Yikes!
yep, two weeks ago Dean said they’re stronger together, which means he’ll go off and hunt the Stynes on his own.
Sweet… love the color. They are even shortchanging Baby this season, we hardly see her. All that money the spent on her and she’s almost never shown any more.
Yeah. She’s had more time in CGI than real life this season. Not good when her best moment had a Taylor Swift song over it.
Don’t hate me Russ, but what kind of car is that? Is it an impala? I’m extremely ignorant about cars. But yours looks cool!
Haha. 1967 Chevy Impala 4 door hardtop. Same as Baby, but white.
Did you already have it before you started watching SPN, or were you inspired to get it because of Baby? And is it really as loud as Baby?
Got it because of SPN. Have had a few other classics, and when it was time for another, this was the logical choice 🙂
Hi Russ Can you drive your Baby to Adelaide so We can go Cruising together I will even dress up as Sam You could be Dean – Or I could be anybody you desire PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE
Haha … well whatever that desire may be, it would not be for you to dress up as a dude.
Holy crap, I laughed really loud when I read that! Jen give him a different choice- how about you dress up as either Rowena or Charlie?
Redhead’s work.
Sorry I’m not a red head – so would a wig be ok. I’m 54 on Thursday a Taurean, and yes pig headed so I’m not sure if there is a SPN character that would suit me LOL Samanddean – I wouldn’t do Charlie any justice xxoo
I prefer Frankenberries. Maybe next week they’ll introduce a new vampire, Count Chocula :):)
(Edited by Alice) – This post and ALL replies have been moved to our new Discussion Page thread about the conference. The discussion is not relevant to the promo photos for 10.22. Thank you, but there are 200+ posts on this thread and very few are relevant to episode 10.22. Our article threads cannot handle this many comments. The Discussion Page can. Please take all side discussions to there from now on. Thanks!
But yes, very evident on the show. Adam Glass for one has his own headcanon regarding what kind of childhood Dean (and Sam) had.
Back in the day, I didn’t care who wrote what episode. In fact, I preferred not to know because I liked to think that it didn’t matter who was writing the characters because Sam and Dean existed as fully formed characters. So all of the writers were writing Sam and Dean in-character and any references to past events were real canon. That is something I can’t rely upon anymore.
ETA
They need Kripke badly. He should make them the show Bible and say this is canon, this is the characterization of Sam and this is the characterization of Dean and this is how they grew up, write according to this and don’t waste everyone’s time debating about your headcanons or trying to sneak them in the episodes.
I agree with you the writers should take their respective headcanons and ….
I could cry. There is an academic conference going on where there is a chance to talk to the MOST problematic writer BY FAR when it comes to misrepresenting Sam (Robbie Thompson (because annoyingly he is a good enough writer to get away with it, others are so unsubtle that you actually can just point out the problem and everyone has to notice)) ….and because of the episode this week it is all about Charlie … someone who has been on the show 5/6 times and is NOT an integrated character into the world. She just isn’t, you can like her or not but that won’t make her any more or less believable as a denizen of the SPN world – where it takes a lifetime to get good enough to be a hunter and she learned it all in a month from reading the Carver Edlund books – until she forgot it all again at an opportune moment …
I sympathize for people wanting representation, I do, but this sucks. What is also coming out of the conference is that TPTB are clueless about what damage they are doing. Like we haven’t known THAT since the week we learned that ‘Sam hit a dog, but we aren’t going to tell you any more than that’. (Aside: RT wants to write THAT backstory, I don’t want him within screaming distance of telling that story. Like I didn’t want him writing the episode where Charlies death could be blamed on Sam).
Anyway the damage to Sam is just not being mentioned.
Well I think that the 600000 viewers the show has lost (where they SHOULD be making gains due to Netflix and word of mouth) are predominantly Samgirls who have realized that the show is never intending to give them the entertainment or story values that other characters get and have just drifted away. (also the stories this season ahve been weak and contradictory and make no sense from week to week)
I see that next weeks episode will continue the endless endless grind on Sam, and the viewers will continue to drift away and the cry will be ‘this falloff in viewers happened because you killed Charlie’.
I sympathize for people wanting representation, I do, but this sucks. What is also coming out of the conference is that TPTB are clueless about what damage they are doing. Like we haven’t known THAT since the week we learned that ‘Sam hit a dog, but we aren’t going to tell you any more than that'
I’d really love to know more on this if you have any additional information. Who was it that said TPTB are clueless about the damage? I’m very curious where this information is coming from…the boys are very consistent and loyal and tow the company line like the pros they are, but they MUST be aware.. they must be, how could they not? I think the Sam fans tend to be less vocal and I think that has translated into TPTB thinking he has fewer fans. Maybe a campaign is in order.. show TPTB that ignoring and continually bashing one of the main leads is killing the show to the tune of 600,000.
This is my take on it: Anyone could tell TPTB that Felicia has a hardcore following that will give her online publicity, and also there is a HUGE amount of trouble you can get into for killing off gay characters on TV shows, especially if it is just for the shock value and very especially to forward the manpain of pretty, straight, white guys. There was a big outcry over Tara’s death on Buffy and a lot of people didn’t even like Tara (I thought she was awesome BTW) it is looked at as a cultural meme of the gay character being ‘punished for being gay’. TPTB should know this! This will definitely put them in a bad place with GLADD… Apparently they were told that there were any number of other ways the same result could be obtained and they said they didn’t care if it upset fans – that is what they were going to do (that was the bit that had me realize that they (TPTB – JC and RS) don’t actually have the first notion how much damage they are doing).
And guess which character on the show gets to bear the blame of this happening?
TPTB are not going to listen to a campaign supporting Sam. I think most of Sam’s online fans have given up. I have vague hopes that now that Jared’s shoulder is fixed and he isn’t completely exhausted with a too-full schedule, and since he said today how much he adores playing Sam and if he was the last character he ever acted that would be ok with him (don’t ask me to find that quote, I don’t know where I saw it) , he will make the writers sit down and discuss how to stop screwing Sam over for a storyline that nobody likes (while not interfering with Dean having a storyline (even though the storyline has been pretty much all Dean&friends all the time since about half way through Season 7)).
I guess on some level I’m one of the viewers who are drifting away since I’m behind on watching the episodes this season. I hope to catch up by the time the finale airs but there was a time when I could not wait to see a new episode of Supernatural and all the different hiatuses were painful. Not anymore.
I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve been avoiding reading reviews and reactions to episodes that I haven’t seen but I saw some things about 10.18 Book of the Damned (written by Robbie Thompson) that made me so mad that I thought if that’s really how the possession issue was handled, I don’t think I can bring myself to start watching the show again. To me, Supernatural would have jumped the shark. I looked at the transcript of that episode and it didn’t make me less upset but I decided to try to reserve my judgement before seeing the episode myself because transcripts don’t always give an accurate impression of scenes due to acting choices, directing, music, and other elements. But to me the issue was so crucial that I actually skipped ahead to watch Book of the Damned because I thought that I probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy the previous episodes if in the back of my head I had to worry about whether the writers ruined Sam as a character just a few episodes later.
Thankfully, the scenes played out differently on-screen mainly due to Jared’s acting and I also give credit to Felicia Day, I felt that Charlie sympathized with Sam and wasn’t as obnoxious as the words on the paper made her out to be. But Thompson came very close to crossing the line…
It is ironic that after doing the grizzled old hunter speech she got herself killed by doing something completely amateur. You could almost look at it that Sam believed her speech and took it at face value and that was why he wanted to include her in the hunt to find a cure for Dean?
Yeah, I guess she forgot everything she learned singlehandedly saving Oz. how convenient for the story. They’ll still manage to blame Sam for this just wait and see.
I guess on some level I’m one of the viewers who are drifting away . . . .
San, I am right there w/you. I have no investment in the show anymore. Dean could stab Sam in the head, and I don’t think I would care. Dean could cry over Sam’s dead body, and I would not be moved. It’s sad really b/c SPN used to be my favorite show. There was a time when I didn’t even want anyone to speak to me when a new episode was airing, but now, I find myself holding conversations w/people or flipping the channel. I’m just waiting to see how this season pans out, and then I think I’ll be done w/the show. My one friend who was as devoted to SPN as I was gave up last season. She told me she wasn’t watching this year, and she hasn’t. I wasn’t in that place last year but now I am. I really don’t expect to watch next year. Carver’s run has been very disappointing, and I can’t see it improving.
Agreed lala, I am not feeling much of anything from anyone other than annoyance at the moment; that is except for Jared, he always gets me, I always feel something from him if he’s given any dialog. The look on his face when he saw Charlie’s body, was like a punch to the gut; I knew immediately she was dead. So for Jared’s sake I am hanging on. About next year…. I’ll probably check out the episodes, but it certainly won’t be a priority.
I just took a singing gig that is going to take up my wednesdays from now until the end of the month. I won’t be watching the last two eps, at least not on the night they air. And since my MAC will not download the latest version of flash player (I’ve tried everything), I probably won’t be watching it at all. I’ll still come here there though to see what everyone says!! I’m having more fun coming here than I am with the show.
Well very likely any moment now we will be asked (metaphorically) to remove our long haired hippy protest march off the capitol steps because people have serious work (posting about. oh the promotional pictures for example) to do, so I am off before I get arrested …
Thanks from me to everyone who didn’t do that by the way! Much appreciated. Some venting was required after the week / day. 😉
Congrats on your singing gig, E! That sounds like fun!
I think you can probably watch the last two episodes on the website. Try a laptop or desktop if you can’t get it on your tablet. I don’t think you’ll be missing much though 🙂
I don’t expect much either except more of that bus smearing poor Sam into the pavement. Some of the spoilers I’ve read DO NOT fill me with hope. That’s OK though, I’ll have The Messiah to ease the pain… parts II and III, the death parts; seems apropos somehow.
Sorry I didn’t notice your post earlier, lala2! I really hope that things will turn around for both of us because I’d like to keep discussing the show with everyone.
Double post
Edited by Alice – This has been moved to our new thread about the conference on the Discussion page. It has info on there about Robbie’s panels at the conference and more.
Fangasm has someone there and they are posting RT’s panel. He did say something to that affect. But in the post I saw it looked like he would have liked that scene considering the fan backlash. Hard to say if it was pitched or not. At least by the comments posted. Maybe there will be videos.
So, basically the assassination of Sam can be directly traced back to the show runner. Even RT, not the best Sam writer in the world had stuff planned for Sam in season 8 that showed what he was going through, what he did while Dean was missing which was SOMETHING and not nothing which is what we got. So, Carver is a straight guy with a man crush on Dean just like all the other writers. This is just as bad as them cutting the convo about how Benny did in fact drink people topside thus justifying Sam’s suspicion in him. What is Carver’s problem?!??!
I saw the tweets about that. He said about ‘hitting the fucking dog” and he waxed lyrical about Dean and the gun in Purgatory – or at least that is the stuff that got retweeted (I really do think that Supernatural’s Samgirls have, for the most part, given up and moved on).
But I didn’t see that there was any comment about WHAT the story for Sam would have been. It was why I was saying in a different post I didn’t want him to write it – he is entirely capable of sending Sam on holidays in Hawaii after having invented an Earth to Purgatory magic mirror, that showed him Dean was still alive, that he could watch and grade Dean’s skill at killing Purgatory monsters while Sam lounged around drinking margaritas (and Adam Glass would have had all that PLUS him needing rescuing while on holiday in Hawaii, thus necessitating Dean, having rescued himself, having to fly to save his hapless infant brother; poor Dean!). (Jenny Klien would have had Dean in Purgatory having sex with pretty monsters a la Captain Kirk). OK, but to get back to the potential story … If he did actually have the scenario you outline Percy – and would have a sympathetic take on it – which would after all be the canon compliant thing to do (!) instead of the heartbreaking fuck-up of a storyline that we actually got – I would be ok with it. But I don’t know for sure that he did say that bit.
Oh I am sorry, phonetically! My bad … I have met two people in real life that I originally met on WFB and since we are used to calling each other by our online names we all tried it, and basically my online name is unpronounceable! I didn’t know until that point 😀 So you can’t butcher it (except in spelling it), don’t feel bad :p
I say EYE-LEFF E-LEFF EYEFF see my problem
Indeed I do 😀
If it makes you feel any better it is a (sort of) abbreviation of my real name in Irish which is Eibhlin (pronounced ‘Eileen’) so it could be worse …
SO who changed the alphabet the English or Irish…. I love how what’s written is no where near how Irish names are pronounced. :D:D:D
We are a contrary race is basically what it boils down to.
Since I am almost completely of Irish descent, I will impress you with the wee bit of (poorly spelled) Gaelic that my grandmother taught me, to wit: pug mahon. That is what I would say to those responsible for butchering my favorite TV character of all time.
Ah, the culture we have gifted to the world :p From the island of saints and scholars … I agree with you though!
eeeelf. ?
That sounds like the fairy equivalent of this::p
Well… yes. But in a nice way. :D:D
I do hope a transcript of the conference gets posted, if not actual videos. I would like to see exactly what was said by RT.
I wanted to know more about Sam “imploding”, what made him think that Dean was dead but simultaneously decide not to look for Dean or Kevin etc.
But in that scenario, Sam DID look for Dean so why wouldn’t he have told Dean that when Dean was clearly hurt by the idea that Sam didn’t look for him first.
They’d never tell each other but we’d know.
That does seem like an attempt to try to correct past mistakes in the characterization of Sam but I’d rather see them try to make Sam’s actions after Dean went to Purgatory seem more in-character by adding to the existing story i.e. losing his brother led to Sam’s whole world imploding and he just ran etc.
I’d like to know exactly how much of that account was editorialized. Like is Thompson’s line of thinking similar to “Sam hit a fucking dog and shacked up with a married bitchy vet and he didn’t even bother to look for Dean and left Kevin for dead.”
Actually it seems like if we changed ‘Sam’ to ‘Dean (who I have a crush on)’s brother’ that would cover most of the writers, all of the reviewers and a fair proportion of the fandom (since that is what they are being educated to see).
It would also show what we are supposed to be taking away from each episode. Those of us who see Sam as a protagonist in the story (as he was seasons 1-6ish) are the ones who are wrong nowadays, it is why the story doesn’t make any sense to us and why Sam does not interact with the other characters of the world except in Dean’s presence. Sam has emphatically NOT been a protagonist this season (or the second half of last season), but he has been a whipping boy for most of that time.
I unpublished ALL the replies to this post. This is irrelevant to the Promo photos, and the conversation really strayed at this point. I’ve moved them to this discussion post:
It is so fucking sad. These writers masturbate over Dean, clearly want to be like him
Ah, calling a spade a spade! I am with you!
Sometimes it needs to be done … mind you since at this stage I am fairly sure every guest actor on the show (male and female) has declared they have “a crush” on either Dean or Jensen I am beginning to wonder what they get up to on that set … :p
Ha, that is true. Kim Rhodes is probably the biggest Jensen-girl out of them and Felicia Day has made some comments too. Then there’s of course Ty Olsson. And many who praise working with Jensen like Omundson. Well, not that he’d have much to say about working with Jared since Sam was not important enough to warrant exploring what Cain thinks of him despite Cain drawing a parallel between Sam and Abel.
It’s interesting that even those actors who seem to be closer to Jared (like DJ Qualls) mainly have scenes with Dean even though it’s clear that the writers like to draw inspiration from what the actors have said.
Here’s the latest one 🙂
”That Jensen is something isnt he? *I* have a fangirl crush on Jensen!” -JDM #Asylum14 #Supernatural
And one from a few weeks back:
Fan asks if he’s scared of Jared cos he talks about Jensen more. He said no he just has more of a man crush on JA @GilMcKinney #phxcon
I think I need to see this guy in person so I can judge for myself …
I had gotten the impression that JDM was more into Jensen despite liking both Jared and Jensen very much. It seems like I was right!
Yes, Gil is definitely one of those who is all about Jensen but I had forgotten about him.
Geez do these people do and say these things in front of Jared I wonder. Singer too is all praise for Jensen. It’s just plain rude.
Yes, I’ve gotten the impression that Jensen was the producers’ favorite and would probably be even more so if he was willing to play the game since Dean and Jensen are the most popular among the fans.
The show went from Sam being the main character to the show being about the two brothers to Dean being the main character – and the most awesome.
See I never saw it as being Sam as the central character. I didn’t even realize that was how it was sold. It was always about both of them.
Believe me, it was not sold as such to the network/ producers/ ad men.
Me too! 😀 Yet I remember being confused early on because it seemed like Sam’s visions were the big mystery but Dean didn’t have a specific storyline going on despite the actors seeming like co-leads. But very soon the show was about the two brothers equally.
Later I learned that the writers and the producers realized what they could do with the show due to the chemistry between Jared and Jensen. The show turned into being about the relationship between the brothers instead of being just a mini horror movie once a week.
I got the impression from Jensen’s talking about the casting that that isn’t how he saw it either. That from his point of view Dean was just as good a character and more suited to him.
But I only started to watch the show middle of Season 7, as far as I can see the week I caught up was the week where things started to go downhill (the Born Again Identity – which I liked and still do like) … at the time I just thought the fans were difficult to please ….
Well it seems like the powers that be have forgotten their own lesson, because somewhere in the past three years the show has become all about Dean and 600,00 fans have taken a hike. And for ME Dean is not the more interesting character, he’s the more obvious and basic one, but I’ve never gone in for obvious or basic.
Honestly I wouldn’t take it too much to heart, I am beginning to think that (though Jensen’s beauty is undoubted) this might be something of an in-joke by the various con attendees :p it has happened so many times at this stage.
Well except for Kim Rhodes, he probably should think about getting a restraining order there … 😉
I dunno… Matt Cohen is also one of those who go on and on about their man crush on Jensen.
ETA
Maybe some of them don’t have much to say since many have not worked on the show for ages so fangirling over Jensen is an easy way to win the audience over, which leads to more sales which then increases their chances of being invited again to the conventions. But I think a lot of it is genuine or otherwise they would get bored of praising a fellow actor’s beauty and coolness etc.
I wasn’t exaggerating about the con attendees doing this you know – like I say I think it could be an in-joke to wind Jensen. Though I am sure that their comments about his professionalism and directing skills etc are entirely genuine – there is a certain amount of knowing your audience here too…. Apparently Jared finds Kim Rhodes crush on Jensen – which makes her unable to talk – hilarious 🙂
fyi, Jensen introduced JDM to his wife. Last I heard they had at least 1 baby.
JDM and Jensens’s wife? That doesn’t seem right at all …. As I said earlier what do they get up to on that set?;)
My structure is correct. Jensen introduced JDM to his wife, HAILIE or whatever. Together they have a child, I forget boy/girl.
Yeah it is, I am only teasing you 😉
woman, what are you smoking/drinking…:)
Catnip (smoking). Why? does it show?
I got on Russ earlier now, WHEN DO YOU SLEEP….:)
Look out folks! NOLA want’s to know when you sleep. Mind the kids and watch for the signs.
* I’ll leave the ”got on Russ” comment alone ;).
You are a MESSSSSSS, Mr Russ 🙂
Holy smokes! Nola’s a Shtriga?!!! I did NOT see that big reveal coming. Well played Nola!
Jensen is a good-looking guy and he seems like a great person, (although I think both of those apply to Jared as well), but he must have some amazing pheromones that he gives off. I read somewhere (forget where) some person waxing rhapsodic over meeting Jensen and she said it was like “looking at the sun.” And I stopped reading the SPN reviews at one site because every single review featured numerous references to how hot and handsome and amazing and sexy Jensen is. I like to keep my own ogling of the Js mostly to myself, not being a teenager anymore, although admittedly I do enjoy many of the pics posted here lately! But the physical appeal of the Js is neither the reason I love SPN, nor something that needs to be mentioned ad nauseam when I’m giving my thoughts on an episode. Unless of course it’s the soulless Sam pull-ups episode. 😉
Throwing some shade at the Fangasm ladies? ;D
What the heck is a Fangasm lady?
Link (”http://fangasmthebook.wordpress.com”)
Maybe it’s just me who gets somewhat annoyed by them. I appreciate that they write about the M&Gs but I don’t care for the way they add their own fangirling in the reports.
It would be nice if they attended Jared’s M&Gs more often than they do but of course they are free to fangirl over Jensen and Dean as much as they want. And it’s their money (?)
Yes, I too find them incredibly annoying… where’s their professionalism? They’ve often gone to cons and completely ignored Jared and his panels and then go on and on and ON about how swoon worthy Jensen is. They are supposed to be representing the fandom, the whole fandom. I find their teenage level obsession somewhat embarrassing.
Yes, they have an “in” with the show and the actors but still fangirl to the extreme so that makes their writing annoying. Regular fans can write about the M&Gs however they want but I expected academics to be able to write normal reports. Sometimes it’s even a bit difficult to tell what is their editorializing and what Jensen actually said.
academics…….. tehehe
SanSummer, sorry but my question was a joke because you busted me about what site I was referring to. I didn’t name it in my comment because I know many people like it and the 2 women who run it. They do seem very nice and I used to read the episode reviews there, but after awhile the Jensen gushing either got worse or I just lost patience with it so I stopped going there. But thanks for the link!
Ah okay 😀 I suppose it’s pretty telling that I was able to guess right!
I haven’t read their episode reviews because the con reports are more than enough. It’s like they never run out of ways to swoon over Jensen/Dean and always with the descriptions of how fans feel about the show and the characters as if they could know. Who cares about their inner thoughts when it’s just fangirling over Dean over and over again in every single con report? I’d rather just read what the actors have to say about the characters. The Fangasm women could still write what kind of impression Jensen made coming into the M&G room etc., there is no need to add fangirling throughout the whole report.
I was trying so hard to be diplomatic and not naming names, but it IS telling that your thoughts immediately went there. A week or so ago I read that they were doing in depth reports about Vegas Con at their site, and since that Con seemed particularly exciting with the whole Winchester family together again, I thought I’d take a look. A couple of the reports were fairly restrained (except that they now always reference their own “in” with the show/actors in their reporting-very annoying!) and it was fine until I got to one report which featured what seemed to be 623 pics of Jensen in a row (alright, it was probably more like a dozen, but still). I felt like I was reading a Tiger Beat magazine. (in case you’re much younger than I am, that was the magazine from my girlhood where I saw all of the latest pics of the heartthrobs). That will be my last visit to their site.
There is another site that could be easily categorized that way 😀
And I am saying no more ….
Actually all slagging about comparative male beauty aside RT’s main commentary on Jared and his role in the show was that Netflix has a record of how often anyone has stopped and rewound the video of SoullessSam doing pullups.
I feel that the writers think that ALL the viewers of the show are PRINCIPALLY watching for the eyecandy…
I suspect that is part of the problem.
(mind you since I look down 1 comment and I see a discussion that I am involved in about muddy J2 I suppose there is some reason for them to think that :o)
But I would rather enjoy the storyline of the show than watch the guys crawl under barbed wire TBH
Was that really RT’s main comment regarding Sam/Jared? God, I hope you’re exaggerating or I’m going to be seriously depressed.
Um well I was following the tweets what I SAW (regarding Jared/Sam) was:
RT likes J2 and goes to hang out with them on set He listens to both of their input about their characters (he did not elaborate on this, nor did I get the impression that he necessarily would do anything with the input) He likes to wear Jared’s t-shirt tucked in so it looks like Jared is coming out of his jeans. SoullessSam looks good doing pullups. He may have elaborated as we discussed that the storyline he would have given Sam from before he hit the dog would not have thrown Sam any further under the bus, but Percy’s comment is the only version I saw with any elaboration beyond he would like to tell the story.
I didn’t see anything else, which is not to say he didn’t SAY anything else, and it must be added that a lot of those tweets WERE coming from the aforementioned Fangasm ladies ….
I find it sad that this is how you guys all view Sam, let alone Dean. I dont see Sam this way at all. I also dont get the tit-for-tat regarding Dean or Sams actions, right or wrong. Neither can claim the moral high ground. They have both cosmically screwed up for the same and different reasons depending. It doesnt make one better than the other. I dont get that from the show. Right now Sam is massively screwing up for all the right and wrong reasons and there will be ramifications and consequences from it, but Dean also messed up and is facing the ramifications and consequences because of his mistakes. Im tired of the constant one brother is better than the other depending on whose spouting it on a particular day. All these naysayers and promisers of dropping the show as of Season 11, why not give them a chance to actually wrap up the season before you carry out your threats. Is Supernatural the same show as it used to be in earlier years? No. Its different. It had to change obviously as the years have gone by. I still love the show. Im thankful for all the hours of pleasure it has given me over the years. Im thankful for the iconic characters Jensen and Jared have given us. The show is not perfect *cough Season 7 cough* but theres nothing else like it and its all because of the chemistry between those two loveable goofballs. I would rather have Supernatural warts and all than no Supernatural at all.
It’s really nice that the show is still working for you. I myself am having a hard time hanging with it and I never thought I would ever say that. It isn’t how Sam or Dean is portrayed or which writer favors which actor. It isn’t canon trashing, continuity, pacing or any of that. I watch the show to be entertained. I watch it knowing I will be devastated by the choices that the characters make. What I don’t want to be is depressed. This last episode was depressing. I guess we all have our reasons for liking or disliking what we are seeing. Everyone sees it differently.
AlyCat and Cheryl, we 3 are the Written MINORITY. I love both brothers, Dean Woman I am 🙂 I can Criticize Dean and the show and still Watch. That’s why I asked about other sites but I am sure with my tolerance level I wont enjoy them. IMDB is for fact finding for me ONLY. CHIN UP LADIES, only 2 more 2 go. :):):)
Crap Cheryl, if they’ve lost you, they’ve lost middle America! Seriously, no matter how upset I’ve been with various elements of the show, I like reading the views of the happier viewers because it gives me a little optimism that things aren’t as bad as I think. So you can’t bail now! Partly because of your comment about how you liked the episode better upon a 2nd viewing, I watched it again myself the other day. I actually enjoyed it much more this time. Yes, a lot of it was poorly written nonsense in which the writers even contradicted THEMSELVES within the course of their own episode. But I found big chunks of it very entertaining, unlike most of the episodes in the middle of the season. Most importantly, it featured Sam as prominently as Dean, like an actual co-lead. So while I fear that they’re setting Sam up to take the blame for whatever evil is unleashed in the finale, I’m adopting a wait and see attitude. The episodes this last quarter of the season have been exponentially better than the horrendously dull ones that constituted the middle of the season. And at this point the finale could go in many different directions, although some big spoiler hints are being dropped. I’m equal parts excited/nervous about these last two episodes. After Dabb knocked it out of the park with Inside Man, I can’t wait to see what he does with 22. And Carver at his best is a phenomenal writer. So hang in there girl!!!!
Thanks for that….I did like it better 2nd viewing but I am still stung by the ending. There were so many other ways that could have gone. Evidently RT pitched several alternatives to what they came up with. I could think of a few too. Something is broken right now. It’s like the trust is gone. The show will go anywhere it wants regardless of how much it may hurt it’s audience. Like I said I don’t mind being devastated, worried for our brothers. I don’t think they meant for this but what has happened to a lot of fans is we are outraged and kind of depressed. I’m sure I will catch up on the final two episodes at some point just not for a while.
cheryl42, is that because of what happened to Charlie or because you feel that the show crossed a line regarding Sam as a character?
In the interest of possibly cheering us up because maybe things could improve … here are the words of someone very closely involved with the show. It isn’t clear if they are hinting that this is going to be understood in canon but it makes me feel better that at least HE gets it (I don’t know that these are direct quotes):
– Sam and Dean’s issues stem from Dean’s problems.
– Dean needs to open up and ask Sam for help because he’s super messed up.
– Dean shutting up and asking Sam for help would fix their bond.
Also in other ‘Making liars out of us after way too freaking long going the other way’ news, the latest Fangasm blog post (the third Vancon one) could really not be called biased at all.
Fair’s fair, when people are doing things that might help us feel less ill-treated by the show / reviewers we should give them kudoes for making the effort! 🙂
ETA: the Vancon post is not the latest one, my bad…
Eilf, who are these quotes attributed to? And where did you read them? If anyone associated with the show made these statements, I’m not sure why it hasn’t been reflected in the scripts so far.
I have seen them coming from the J2 panel from today at Asylum. It’s just appearing on Tumblr now. In any case, the quotes are from the actors, so the writers may not be at all interested in going that way.
ETA that the statements were from Jensen.
I thought I would give people the chance to guess ;). It was Jensen! I was so surprised when I saw in tweets earlier that he said it!
What were RT’s alternatives? And are you upset because they killed off Charlie, or because of how they did it?
So, maybe, we might have got backstory to what Sam was going through and doing after Dean went to Purgatory?? Perhaps got some insight into the emotional mess he must have been in??? And it was dropped??? (Sorry for all the ragey ?????s.) I very much hope a transcript turns up sometime soon, to get all this clarified one way or another. I would have given almost anything to have seen Sam’s story between Dean disappearing and Sam hitting that dog shown onscreen.
And the writers all have their own headcanons?!
Okay…so I’m going to go look at the Muddy J2 pics upthread now…try to find my happy place…
Hey everyone, I see that we’ve got SEVERAL conversations that have veered from the promo photos and onto fun stuff about several things, like Tough Mudder, Asylum, AND the conference at DePaul, which BTW four staff members from the WFB attended (including myself) and we were a major sponsor. We got a speak quite a bit to Robbie Thompson this weekend and will have full reports on all the events.
From this point forward, stray discussions be put on the Discussion page. That page is meant for free form discussions. I’d rather you keep the topics to the actual article, which is about the promo photos. Not to mention when the comments get overloaded on an article, they slow down our server terribly and the comments won’t load right.
Dean is out getting revenge on the Stynes and then caught – I hope he goes out ALL VENGEFULL DEAN with flashing black eyes and all – Dean is getting WORSE AFTER ALL ;););)
And Sam well he appears to be still searching for a cure and probably getting a ear full from Rowenna – I told Charlie she would die hanging around you guys Blah Blah Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hi Guys just another thought – I wonder while building the pyre for Charlie whether the boys will have a nice long chat about everything thus pulling the whole season together. A nice bro moment
I have a question — Dean can’t be killed the mark wont let him die Dean appears to be going Demony !!!
I’m sure it’ll happen. Absolutely positive. Right? Yep.
You don’t like the Stynes at all I take it……
ummm hummmm
2. Cas hasn’t got his grace back not all of it so his wings are broken
3. They use a portal to heaven in the playground to come up & down from heaven – i believe because none of the angels fly ??
4. Cas has to be blown totally to pieces to die so even if he sacrifices himself for Dean – can he die permanetly ??
5. Crowley talking to a hampster seems silly but I liked it was funny
6. I reckon Roweena is dead – Crowely & Cas are on some sort of show contract arn’t they
Anyway thats my Blah Blah Blahhhhhhhhhhhh Sorry if your all bored now. And I’m starting to understand how important Canon is – There isn’t any any more Love Jen xxoo
You know I am not convinced by Charlies death at all. And I am not convinced by the pyre either. here is my reasoning:
Apparently the Stynes are after Charlie and they won’t give up as long as they think she is alive
Cas ought to be able to cure her, it seems odd that he cannot
Dean is still on the rails enough that he can build a pyre.
Spoiler*** (I guess)
[the more returns I put on this the longer the comment gets in the recent comments box which makes it look way more significant than it is – while still showing the spoilery bit so it is a double waste of time – so I will just keep typing for a bit …]
SWEEPS week or month
i.e., shock value
Long before now I surmised that spn fans
are like soap opera fans and cant distinguish the
actor from the role.

Oh wait, that actually WOULD fit in….never mind.
didn’t you get the memo? This is The Carver’s idea of a mature relationship between two adult brothers :D:D:D
Thanks Russ, samandean it would be lovely wouldn’t it – And Russ’s end note about the boys planning everything TOGETHER I LIKED THAT
I noticed in the video clip, that Dean looks at Sam very, very menancingly and says I’m going to kill them all, everybody they love – everybody. He didn’t look away from Sammy once – that to me was very scary.
OK Russ where’s the clip you don’t like writing REMEMBER LOL
But writing is hard. 😀
OK..
Researching him right now.
Hand to Chuck,
there’s a rapper whose wife got her
eyes changed in BRAZIL from brown
to blue. nolanola9 on twitter.:)
Lots of NAZIs went to live in
South America. jsyk.
Brazil fits the bill. 🙁
Yikes!
yep, two weeks ago Dean said they’re stronger together, which means he’ll go off and hunt the Stynes on his own.
Frankenweenie Oh I love it New Catch Cry FRANKENWEENIE LOL Russ I love writing – send it over I’ll give ya hand
Haven’t even started writing it yet. So far it’s all outline and nonsense. It covers a few centuries, hence the historical research.
It’s really none of my beeswax Russ, but are you a Sam or Dean fan, or neither? Just being nosy!
Neither. I’m a car guy. I’m here for Baby. Everything else is just a bonus (when it’s good).
My car…

I’m 54 on Thursday a Taurean, and yes pig headed so I’m not sure if there is a SPN character that would suit me LOL
Samanddean – I wouldn’t do Charlie any justice xxoo
I prefer Frankenberries. Maybe next week they’ll introduce a new vampire, Count Chocula :):)
You two are a hoot and a half. Take you show on the road or at least write a blog for Chucks sake. :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p
How about Frankenfish?
Omg, what the hell is FRANKENSTYNE doing to Dean….
I just saw the blown up pics.
stop laughing at Miss Nola

In the video for Ep 22 The Prisoner. Take a close look I think DEAN IS USING THE COLT not his normal gun ??
Sorry Jen, but I just downloaded and paused the HD copy of the preview.
It’s just his regular pistol with a suppressor attached.

Actually that looks like Dean’s favorite ivory handled colt, we haven’t seen that in a while.
Thanks Russ – what does the suppressor do ???????
Mainstream media would call it a “silencer”. Muffles the sound of a firearm.

That is so wrong on so many levels.

No.
I sympathize for people wanting representation, I do, but this sucks. What is also coming out of the conference is that TPTB are clueless about what damage they are doing.
What is also coming out of the conference is that TPTB are clueless about what damage they are doing. Like we haven’t known THAT since the week we learned that ‘Sam hit a dog, but we aren’t going to tell you any more than that’.
It has info on there about Robbie’s panels at the conference and more.
https://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/lets-discuss/supernatural-conference-at-depaul,-may-9th,-with-keynote-speaker-robbie-thompson
OK, but to get back to the potential story …
If he did actually have the scenario you outline Percy – and would have a sympathetic take on it – which would after all be the canon compliant thing to do (!) instead of the heartbreaking fuck-up of a storyline that we actually got – I would be ok with it. But I don’t know for sure that he did say that bit.
Do they have margaritas in Hawaii?
wherever you want one, sugar. 🙂
phonetically spell your name please
I am butchering it 😉
Hi NolaNola *shakes hand* you can call me e-i-l-f
Do you make good margaritas?
I thought you were in Nwalins not Hawaii?
:):):):):)
Oh I am sorry, phonetically! My bad … I have met two people in real life that I originally met on WFB and since we are used to calling each other by our online names we all tried it, and basically my online name is unpronounceable! I didn’t know until that point 😀
So you can’t butcher it (except in spelling it), don’t feel bad :p
I say EYE-LEFF
E-LEFF
EYEFF
see my problem
Indeed I do 😀
If it makes you feel any better it is a (sort of) abbreviation of my real name in Irish which is Eibhlin (pronounced ‘Eileen’) so it could be worse …
SO who changed the alphabet the English or Irish….
I love how what’s written is no where near how Irish
names are pronounced.
Ah, the culture we have gifted to the world :p From the island of saints and scholars …
I agree with you though!
eeeelf. ?
That sounds like the fairy equivalent of this::p
Well… yes. But in a nice way. :D:D
I do hope a transcript of the conference gets posted, if not actual videos. I would like to see exactly what was said by RT.
That’s a lot to take in.
I’ve moved them to this discussion post:
https://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/lets-discuss/supernatural-conference-at-depaul,-may-9th,-with-keynote-speaker-robbie-thompson

RT likes J2 and goes to hang out with them on set
He listens to both of their input about their characters (he did not elaborate on this, nor did I get the impression that he necessarily would do anything with the input)
He likes to wear Jared’s t-shirt tucked in so it looks like Jared is coming out of his jeans.
I love both brothers, Dean Woman I am 🙂
I can Criticize Dean and the show and still Watch.
That’s why I asked about other sites but I am sure
with my tolerance level I wont enjoy them. IMDB is for
fact finding for me ONLY.
Muddy J2 is good for cheering you up isn’t it?
I’m very close to limiting the comments on actual articles to 20 comments per article because of this.
Any registered user can create a new topic. If you’re logged in just go to the Discussion page and select “Start A New Topic.” It’s very simple and you’ll find that comments load way easier and faster there.
Thanks!
