New York Times Article on Supernatural
A true sign our show has made it into the mainstream, if only for one day.
We are featured in an article in the New York Times.
The first episode of the scary-monster show “Supernatural,” in which a college student came home and found his girlfriend on the ceiling, roasting like a blond marshmallow, was shown by the WB network on Sept. 13, 2005. Since then quite a few shows have come and gone — “Breaking Bad,” “Friday Night Lights,” “30 Rock,” “Dexter,” to name a few — but “Supernatural” is still here, now on CW on Tuesday nights. Midway through its ninth demon-stabbing, vampire-decapitating, angel-ganking season, it’s the sixth-longest-running drama currently in prime time — and it’s already been renewed for another season. How does a show that gets relatively little attention and even less credit in the age of the prime-time drama find itself on a short list with series like “Law & Order: SVU” and “Grey’s Anatomy”? We went to the suburbs of Vancouver, where the 190th episode was being shot, to ask. Here are some possibilities.
It’s about the hair.
It’s about the brothers.
It’s about Joseph Campbell.
And masculinity.
And angels.It’s about Netflix.
It’s about beefcake.
It’s about the fans.
It’s about humility.
It’s about the future.

We just got compared to Breaking Bad Friday, Night Lights, 30 Rock and Dexter (Please let our finale be better than Dexter. I don’t want to have the boys singing (Spoilers for Dexter)
“We’re lumberjacks and we’re OKAY, we hunt all night and we work all day”)
I love this! Although I hope this doesn’t bring unwanted attention like those people who think Harry Potter books are from Satan.
Whoever wrote this must be a fan. Note the proper and entirely in context use of the word” gank”.
I’m making as many comments as I can before the comment section disappears on me again. I read this a few days ago. Lovely exposure for the show. Especially since even their own network gives the show absolutely no promotion. There was more ads on TNT for the SPN marathon than any first run episode I have ever seen.
and… we have another marathon this Friday! Nice article; I thought it was done in a very positive light.
As a New Yorker who has The New York Times delivered weekends, I’m just as thrilled as the last time they had an article on Supernatural. I do think it was positive and the writer knew enough about the show to ask the right questions. In other words, she got it. Jensen, Jared and Misha were also adorable in their answers. Like the last time, I’m going to cut this article out and keep it.
That was so cool! I love it when our little show gets recognized in big papers. I feel like a proud aunt right now. 😉 And might I add, I think I love Mark Pedowitz.
