Official Description: Supernatural Episode 9.10 and 9.11
Ooh, a couple of episode descriptions? We must be getting closer to Supernatural’s return on January 14th. I apparently missed the release of the one for “Road Trip” (9.10) last week (silly Christmas Day), but I have the one for “First Born” (9.11) fresh from today’s CW release! Might I say this, Tim Omundson! How cool is that? Actually both of these plots sound very exciting, and they’re both written by two of the shows best writers. So there’s plenty of reason for hope.
9.10 – “Road Trip”
DEAN’S BEST CHANCE OF SAVING SAM LIES WITH CROWLEY — Dean (Jensen Ackles) is devastated after Kevin’s death and vows to find the angel that killed him, not only to free Sam (Jared Padalecki), but to seek revenge. Castiel (Misha Collins) arrives at the bunker and suggests they try to separate Sam’s brain from the angel’s so they can talk to Sam and have him expel Gadreel. However, there’s one small problem: the only person who knows how to do that is Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Robert Singer directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (910).
9.11 – “First Born”
TIM OMUNDSON (“PSYCH”) GUEST STARS AS CAIN — Looking to reclaim his place as King of Hell, Crowley (Mark Sheppard) asks Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help finding “The First Blade,” the only blade that can kill Abbadon (guest star Alaina Huffman). Knowing he owes Crowley a favor for helping Sam (Jared Padalecki), and also wanting Abaddon dead himself, Dean reluctantly agrees and the two set off on a road trip. However, Dean and Crowley are completely unprepared when they find out who has the blade – Cain (guest star Omundson), the first son. Meanwhile, Sam is back at the bunker with Castiel (Misha Collins) who notices there is some leftover grace inside Sam. If they can extract it, they can use the grace to track Gadreel. The only problem is the procedure may do permanent damage to Sam. John Badham directed the episode written by Robbie Thompson (911).
Okay, time to speculate. In consideration of our new rules (which are really the old rules), keep the comments in a positive tone and constructive. Let’s keep an open mind until the episodes actually air.

I’m so excited to learn Sam is back after one episode and we don’t have to wait!!!! The Cain and Abel thing sounds positively wicked. Yum.

Oooh I love Lassie from Psych, so I’m happily looking forward to him being on this show. (‘Scuse me. I’m having a squee! right now.)
I’m getting into First Born. It sounds pretty cool. A road trip with Dean and Crowley. Sam and Cas get some alone time. (I wonder how that leftover grace will manifest.) Its good to see that Sam will be back next episode. Now lets get this grace thing out of the way quickly so that poor man can have a moment of peace (before he gets sick or something yet again.)
Okay I’m tired of waiting now.

(Edited by Alice – Ooh, someone thumbing their noses at the stated rules! We are no longer tolerating pessimistic rants about a possible character arc that hasn’t aired yet. This does not follow our “positive” tone. Spoiler articles are not off limits to those rules.
Apologies in advance if I offend, and I am aware I’m probably pushing a boundary, but I’m going to have a little fun with this. It’s madlibs. I’m substituting the word “Sam” with “bacon.” That way, it seems less rant-ish. I’ll even call Cas “egg” because eggs and bacon go so well together.
Hmm, bacon and eggs…)
Nothing particularly exciting for bacon fans, he gets a quick fix in episode 10, they bring back the other guy to play Gadreel and bacon is all better. Then in episode 11 he gets to stay at the bunker and theres something wrong with him again? My guess is egg removes the left over grace and takes it to find Gadreel and deal with the whole Metatron thing himself (seems likely) though I guess Dean might still get to have his revenge for Kevin at the end of the season and bacon is permenantly damaged by the proceedure because lets face it everytime they say something might leave any kind of damage or lasting affect or change bacon in some way it never actually happens. Sounds like another quick fix and done. I’m not sure what bacon is supposed to be doing for the rest of the season, pressumably hanging around in the background and researching given that it has been hinted that 10-14 are bacon light? I can only assume Jared saying bacon would be part of the narrative at some point this season means he’ll be back to doing the research for their MOTW cases pretty quickly?

So 9.10 is called “Road Trip”…and 9.11 is about a road trip? I’m sure it will all make sense once I see it?

Wouldn’t it be cool if Cas let Sam know that angel grace and demon blood cannot reside in the same vessel? So, he was truly cleansed through the trials.
Maybe he retains enough of the angel grace to heal him quickly. Maybe he even gets to keep some wisps of angel power! Like hearing angel radio or healing more quickly than a regular human or something else really awesome!
I wonder if Cas will be able to help him gain access to the erased or hidden memories so he knows all without being told – maybe he even will know all about Gadreel like Gadreel knew all about him.
Looking forward to it! Hurry up January!

Is not Sam already damaged permanently ? .

Both episodes sound great. Am very happy Sam was able to eject Gadreel. All sorts of ideas pop up–like a little grace can go a long way.
Dean and Crowley on a road trip-oh my!
Looking so forward to the return of the series.

I like the sound of these episodes, especially the First Born one. I’m looking forward to seeing some Sam and Castiel interaction. Most of all though I’m looking forward to seeing Sam’s reaction when he finds out all that’s happened. I read somewhere (not sure how correct it is) that there’s a really emotional Sam scene coming up soon.

@Gwen : I hope so.
I wouldn’t classify myself as a Sam or Dean girl (probably cuz I’m a grown a*@ woman) but I really need to see a little more of him this season. And its good to see Sam interacting with people besides Dean from time to time. Seriously though, that poor man needs friends. Stat! (Ooh ooh pick me!)

Normally stay away from the spoilers section but saw some comments on Twitter from Alice and had to check it out. So… if Sam is bacon, and Castiel is eggs, what does that make Dean? Toast? Coffee? Pie? 🙂
They’re really kicking things in to gear in 9.10 and 9.11. Glad to see them mixing things up, Crowley with Dean and Castiel with Sam. Dean and Crowley were great together in their road trip to find Death in S5.
Since Gadreel let evil in to the Garden of Eden, and Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve, I’m wondering if the Gadreel and Cain story lines are going to intersect/converge.

Yes, Yes, Yes and Absolutely! 😀

9.10 Always up for more Crowley ! Happy to see The King stretch his legs and get out of the basement lol. I can tell I’m going to like this episode. I’ve been waiting for “The Devil You Know” Part 2. Not looking forward to seeing Sam in pain (based on the video previews) but anything to get Gadrevil out of him.
As for Kevin… I can’t… I can’t talk about that…
9.11 sounds good also. Maybe we’ll get to see Abaddon?
“The only problem is the procedure may do permanent damage to Sam.” 🙁 Oy.
After all this pain, I want to see Sam healthy as a horse for the rest of the season. Baby can’t even catch a cold lol.

I’m excited too! And there was another promo with new clips shown during last night’s repeat. Is it possible for WFB to post a link?

I am beside myself with excitement for these next two episodes. I’m really curious how Sam will react to what Dean has done. Since the “First Born” write-up pretty much spoils that we will have real-Sam around, I’m hoping we get a good dialog on this.
I’m glad we get “Sam” as “Sam” reasonably quickly but I kinda hope the bit of left-over grace acts as a Gadreel divining rod. I’d like Sam to bring Gadreel to redemption if possible. I’ll have a hard time getting over Kevin’s death but I still feel like they should attempt to redeem Gadreel.
I expect Alfie-like torture to get to Sam in the first episode. I gotta say I really had a hard time watching Alfie-torture so I hope it’s not too gruesome. I also am keen to see what Cas is going to say to Dean once he finds out about the whole vessel deal.
And I can’t overstate how excited I am for the First Born. I’m a TO fan from Psych as well as think he’ll make a helluva guest cast member. (no pun intended). I’d also like to see more Sam/Cas bonding. I was just re-watching “Meet the New Boss” and I loved how Sam showed faith in Cas and gave such a wonderful little speech that gave Cas the opportunity to come “home”. I’m a sucker for redemption/home/family themes.

I’m super-curious about “the first blade” – might it have anything to do with Ruby’s demon-killing knife?
Which reminds me, could someone jog my memory as to what has happened to Ruby’s knife and the Colt? 😀 Thanks!!

I’m pretty sure they still have Ruby’s knife. The keep killing demons and that is the only thing that works quickly. Exorcisms work, but not immediately and are therefore reserved for potential serial killers, instead of Oh, Mrs. Tran who Dean was going to kill with Ruby’s knife.
The Colt was lost in Abandon All Hope when it didn’t work against Lucifer. Lucifer took it and was only seen again in the past in Frontierland where Dean used it to kill the Phoenix and then left it back in the past so it could be found by Daniel Elkins and then passed onto Sam and Dean. It’s probably too powerful a weapon to have around since it can kill everything except Lucifer and an unnamed four other things. We may see it, but I’m not expecting to see it soon.
