Comic Con 2013 Supernatural News Roundup
As I get ready to put all this craziness of Comic Con behind me (and man was it crazy!), there are a few lingering news items from “Supernatural” that happened during that weekend that you may or may not know. So let’s send off another great year for “Supernatural” at Comic Con by running through some items!
– On Thursday, Rob Benedict premiered a new short film that he wrote and produced, “The Sidekick.” Richard Speight Jr. was there as well, considering he had a small (and very funny part) in the film. I’ll have a full report out on the film soon, including press room video interviews with members of the cast (including Rob and Richard).
– On Friday night, the annual Warner Brothers party was held. Jared and Genevieve did show to the event, which was kind of awesome considering it was Jared’s birthday that day! During the party (in which people were not allowed to take pictures) they brought out a birthday cake for Jared and sang Happy Birthday. The funny part was several people who were there said that they couldn’t see the cake among the crowd, but seeing Jared’s surprised face was super easy. He towered over everyone!
On the red carpet at that party, Jared kind of gave an obvious hint to everyone when he posed holding his had over Gen’s abdomen, much like Jensen did for a then pregnant Danneel at the People’ Choice Awards. While they didn’t confirm it publicly at the time (or for the rest of the weekend), it was confirmed by friends and several reliable sources that Genevieve is indeed pregnant with their second child! They had been telling people privately all weekend. Finally, after Comic Con, on the way back to Vancouver, Jared confirmed it on Twitter. Well, sort of, but you know how Jared likes to have fun.
Shoot! I got on a plane and THEN realized that my tweet wasnt finished! Not used to this 140 character thing. I confirm that Genevieve is pre

We here at the Winchester Family Business offer a heartfelt congratulations to this ever growing Padalecki family! I’m sure that “Operation Moose Drop Two” is in full swing with the crew right now.
– On Saturday, “Supernatural’s” presence was surely felt when “Revolution” had their day at the con. Eric Kripke was there spilling secrets about his second season show, as was new Consulting Producer Ben Edlund. Even “Supernatural” producer Jim Michaels was there to say hello to a few of the “Supernatural” alum. Jim did confirm to me that Phil Sgriccia is filming “Revolution” right now, and will be back to film one “Supernatural” episode soon.
Here are the interviews from Eric Kripke and Ben Edlund, just in case you’re interested in hearing about “Revolution” season two (warning, Kripke gives away everything) or if you just miss these guys and want to see them speak in general. The last question to Kripke about him not being able to stray from the “brotherly” theme is from me (it’s a hilarious answer!), as is the first part of the Ben Edlund interview delivering a message from “Supernatural” and “Revolution” fans.

– Out of the press room on Sunday came word from “Supernatural” Executive Producer Robert Singer that a “Supernatural” spin off was in the works. Spinoffs used to be TV’s answer once to generating new shows that fans would flock to immediately. It was only when the show proved to be bad (“The Ropers,” “Joey,” “Joanie Loves Chachi,” “The Lone Gunmen”) that audiences would abandon it. The CW jumped into the spinoff pool this year with “The Originals,” and now it’s turning to “Supernatural” to come up with the next big idea. Let’s face it, the network needs hits and The CW doesn’t want to lose this loyal fanbase.
The spinoff is in the super early stages, aka they’re only bouncing off concepts right now. There’s no script or strong outline yet, but they do want to do the planted pilot around episode 20 (much like “The Originals”). Obviously any idea needs to be pitched and approved by the network, so it remains to be seen if any spinoff ideas for “Supernatural” will get off the ground. But considering the closest they’ve come so far to a spinoff is the Ghostfacers webseries, I guess this is progress.
– On Sunday, after the “Supernatural” panel, press room and signing, Jared and Jensen somehow worked in a panel at Nerd HQ. Below is the video for the entire panel and interview afterward, just before the guys rushed off to catch a plane back to Vancouver. This is such a great event. Not only does it raise money for Operational Smile and gives fans an extra chance to see the guys in person, but isn’t Zachary Levi the best moderator ever? Then again, “Chuck” is one of my favorite shows ever! Although, the panel did sell out in seconds, so I vote for a bigger venue next time!

All in all, Comic Con was a great time for Supernatural fans (who were everywhere), and we’re all ready for next year. Judging by the talk from everyone, season ten seemed like a forgone conclusion to everyone. Now we’ve just got to wait 80 some for days for the season nine premiere. Bring it!

LOVED that Conversations for a Cause video. It was so clear, and the guys were so adorably adorable I wanted to crawl into the screen,
Thanks so much for that.
Thank you for the great vids Alice! The quality of Conversation for a Cause video is immensely good – probably the shooting was allowed, right? As to Ben Edlund’s interview, I could understand only one of four(teen) words of his because of that background humming. And Ben’s famous gesticulation however eloquent didn’t help much. I so want to know what he was talking about.
