Comic Con 2013 Supernatural Spoiler Roundup
This might be hard, since there were so many interviews and so much said by Jeremy Carver, Robert Singer, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins but I’m going to be foolish and try to get a lot of it together in one place. At least get the important stuff! Some spoilers come from interviews that I did, others will be coming from interviews from other outlets. Nothing here is giving away the farm (I’m looking at you “Revolution’s” Eric Kripke), but still, it’s intriguing!
As I hear other spoilers, I’ll make them available here. If there’s any I missed from Comic Con, please share the spoiler in the comments below!
General and Panel
For a general spoiler, season nine picks up where they left off. There’s no time jump.
Here’s also a summary of the season nine clip they showed at the Supernatural panel from the second episode of the season (it was shot first):
Kevin Tran is barricaded in the Men of Letters bunker, and Dean arrives. Kevin is a wreck, saying he hasn’t slept in days. He tells Dean how the whole place lit up and the the controls are back on. Dean lets Kevin know what happened, the angels fell. Then a very healthy looking Sam arrives, with a chained up and masked Crowley. They take Crowley to the Men of Letter’s dungeon and chain him up. Sam and Dean demand to know the names of every demon and the human they’re possessing on earth. Crowley (and yes there’s a lot of smart talk back and forth) won’t give up the info. So the boys decide to leave Crowley in there alone. All alone. In the dark, with no one to talk to. “You’re own personal Hell,†Sam taunts. Crowley is left alone and he doesn’t look too happy!
Also, 11 stories have already been written for season nine.
Jeremy Carver
“We have some pretty surprising stuff coming down the pike and everyone here is pretty much sworn to secrecy.â€
“I think Sam got to a place last year where he was essentially in it to win it. He was going to go all the way. And Dean pulled him back from that. They had a real confrontation moment in the church where they got out some stuff that had been bothering each of them. I think we’re going to see Sam pick up very much in that same vein. The result of that love hug was a lot of fallout. We’re dealing with a world where nobody’s in Heaven and there’s no king of Heaven or Hell. That world has never existed on Supernatural. Sam is ready to knock them down one by one. Dean had to make a very big decision last year to go get his brother out of that church and pull him out. He made certain promises to his brother. That’s going to continue early in the season. There’s going to be some decisions that Dean is shouldering that’s going to be driving some of the mythology early in the season. It’s very very personal for our brothers and its a very very heavy weight to bear for each of them.â€
“One of the themes this year will be consequences. The end of last year the brothers chose each other over what was really their quest for the season and there’s a lot of fallout because of that. Particularly there’s a lot of fallout from what Castiel did as well and everybody is dealing with the consequences of their actions last year. And frankly consequences of their actions and decisions they’re making at the beginning of this year. I think consequences and deciding who you are and who you want to be. I think everyone of our major characters is going to face that question this season. It’s the same exciting, and spooky and scary and funny, but this year we’re hoping to mine even more rich emotional territory with our characters as well.â€
“Get ready to see the characters that you’ve grown to love deal with a side of themselves that they’ve never had to face before and really enjoy watching them squirm, shiver, shake, be happy, and really watch them experiment with who they are and who they want to be.â€
– Jeremy does confirm that Sheriff Mills did not die and we will see that.

Robert Singer
Castiel’s story up until the midseason break will be dealing with being human (eating, going to the bathroom, etc). “As the season progresses and it becomes a little more comfortable with that, his challenge down the line will be as the angel lore starts to develop, do I want to sit on the sidelines as a human or do I get back in the fight? If I get back in the fight how do I regain my powers? So That’s pretty much the Cas arc for a while and we’re looking forward to doing it.â€
Crowley for a time “is our Hannibal Lecter.†He wants to get out of Sam and Dean’s clutches and re-establish his position as the King of Hell.†What about the attempt to cure Crowley? “Certainly Sam is aware of it, Sam saw it, he tells Crowley he saw it, Crowley denies he has any leftover feelings about that but he probably does.â€
Charlie will return in episode four. “The Charlie stories are separated apart. The one that she’s doing us, episode four, has certain mythological elements but Charlie’s not really part of the mythology. She’s just a great story springboard for us and a great character. We love her and she’s a great shot in the arm for us. We’ll use her as much as we can, she loves doing the show, we love having her. I don’t know if she’ll ever be based in the mythology because she’s a busy girl.â€

What is the theme for season nine? “Unlike other years where said this is our Raiders year or this is our Film Noir year, this is probably, not that our story is anything like, probably our “Game of Thrones†year in that we have a lot of characters in play, a lot of levels of story telling, cross pollenation. In any given episode we can have a really strong A story, and a B story, and a C story. We have a lot of characters we have to pay off. This year is kind of a multi-character, emotional, roller coaster drama.â€
The angels that fall to earth will have their powers, except they can’t teleport. They can smite, they can heal. There will be different factions of angels, and there will be battles among the angels. This will be true for demons too with Crowley missing. “There’s a lot of demon on demon stuff and angel on angel stuff and the boys are caught in the middle of all that.â€
We will probably see Metatron somewhere near the half season mark. His story will play out more heavily in the second half of the season. “I can tell you that while he’s exacted his revenge, he’s a finding it little lonely up there. I don’t think he thought it through this far.â€
“This is probably our most character driven season.â€
They aren’t done with the tablets yet.

Jensen Ackles
A big arc for Dean in season nine hasn’t been defined yet. “I do know that given the fact that the brothers have chosen each other, as opposed to closing the gates of Hell, that is now given a lot to deal with. They’ve got angels, they’ve got demons and they’ve got all the other stuff in between to now deal with. They’ve got to somehow figure out how to navigate the terrain with all the new elements. So I think that they’re really going to need each other more than ever at this point and they’re going to have to rely on each other more than ever. Which is going to be difficult because there’s a secret that Dean is harboring right now from Sam that is one of the bigger issues of the series. That’ll be interesting how that’s going to play out as well. They haven’t told me, I don’t know.â€
“There is a massive wrench in the mix, it’s just that Sam doesn’t quite know it yet.â€

“They think that he is going to better serve them alive to them than dead. So they want to extract as much knowledge out of him as possible. I have a line in the episode we’re filming right now where I say ‘Let’s Zero Dark Thirty his ass.’ I think to Dean that seems like the most valuable way to handle the situation. But of course it’s probably going to backfire and it’s all going to shit and that’s just going to be season nine. “
What about the Men of Letters bunker? “Obviously Dean loves the fact that he has a home base and has some place he can call home. For Sam it’s more of a research lab. Either way it’s still going to serve the brothers a lot this season…I think they have outgrown the scope of Dad’s journal to the extent of what theyRE dealing with. The Men of Letters is going to come in handy for sure.â€

Jared Padalecki
“Sam didn’t get better. If fact he got worse. We see at the beginning of the season he’s even worse than he was.â€
“There is a secret that Sam doesn’t know, that really heavily involves Sam, and it even has a lot to do with why Sam’s still alive. So Dean is continuing to lie to Sam and he’s hating it every step of the way. Sam’s like, ‘Well, I remember our conversation about teamwork and I’m going to take you at your word.’ When Sam finds out shit’s going to hit the fan.â€
“I hope Sam will understand. I’m sure there will be a time when he does not, when he’s upset, just because Dean begged him to stop something and offered honesty and partnership and then right off the bat is keeping a secret. So Sam’s inevitably going to be like, ‘Well you begged me to do something and I could have closed the gates of Hell, you told me that I could trust and this is the first thing that happens?’ Certainly Sam will be upset, but I like Sam being alive.â€

As revealed in the panel, Castiel will be learning human basics like eating and going to the bathroom. There will be a bathroom scene.
“It used to be that he could teleport now it takes a couple of weeks to get there, because he also doesn’t have a car or have money for a bus. Everything that was easy for him before is going to be difficult.â€
While Misha wouldn’t confirm if Castiel gets a new wardrobe this year, he did tease that there will be a laundromat scene for Cas. “I certainly hope that Cas will at least change his underwear.â€
“The fallen angels are all going to blame Castiel for having fallen and they’re all angry with him and out for blood.â€
Castiel will make an appearance in the Men of Letter’s bunker but he will have a host of other problems. “Part of the problem is all these angels are pursuing him and he’s attracting a lot of bad mojo so he’s not really great for the Winchesters to have around. It’s not like it used to be when he could solve their problems. He’s actually causing problems by simply being around.â€
Castiel will be in 13 or 14 episodes this season.
“I hope that the fans really like the sex scenes.†(That’s probably a foiler).

That’s all I have for now! More sure to come soon as episodes continue to be shot.
Thank you for all the con reports; for those of us who couldn’t be there, it’s been a great way to share in the experience.
This morning I read an interview that Robbie Thompson and Adam Glass gave to the website ‘Famous Monsters of Filmland’ while at Comic Con. It contained one intriguing tidbit:
“FM. So I have a note here. Someone I know is obsessed with SUPERNATURAL, and she told me to ask about the “Samuletâ€.
RT. We get a lot of tweets about bringing the Samulet back. And I personally would like to see the Samulet back. It means a lot to the brothers themselves. Whether or not we have anything actively in the works, well, we can’t give away any spoilers, but… we’ve talked about it, and that was this year….”
Hmmm………..
Hi, Scullspeare
It’s good to read all of these reports. I hope it’s true about the Samulet. I wonder who’s the one who get to write it. 🙂
