TV Fanatic Roundtable: “Sacrifice”
It’s the TV Fanatic Supernatural Roundtable, Season Finale Edition! This time, there are more questions, and plenty of good opinions on what happened and where all this can go in season nine. See what myself, Sean McKenna, Carissa Pavlica, and Carla Day had to say about all the goodness.

And in case you missed it, here’s Sean McKenna’s thoughts on this amazing episode.

“The angels have fallen out like roasted marshmallows.” Too funny.
Thanks so much for sharing both of these. I must say, though, I was quite taken aback. After reading the review, I started looking at the comments. I only got through about half a dozen. All those people hated the episode. I am mystified! I know there was an episode or 2 this season that was a dog (pun intended) but it is beyond my comprehension that all those people hated this magnificent season finale! Lesson for me to not read comments on sites other than this one.
I now must go watch the finale for the third time!
Just re watched the first episode of season 8. J2 have often stated that they do not know the character arc/scripts for the season until they get the script before shooting starts. It was interesting to watch Jared’s performance having the 20/20 hindsight of where the character went in the finale. The performance made so much more sense as did the script. Just wondering how the direction got Jared there without knowing the entire story. Increases my admiration for the acting performances on SPN. I also noticed that some of the special effects used in episode one, reappear in the finale; the arrival of demons breaking the floor so they can break the devil’s trap, glowing things- knives,Dean’s arm, the church set, etc. How Dean unites with Sam in a brotherly hug. What is interesting is that Sam trusts that is is the real Dean without proof, but Dean insists of proving he is real. In the finale, Dean has to prove that he puts Sam before anything or anyone and Sam’s trust is put to the test. Symmetry.
Another note-“Did you look for me?” vs Take me to him so within characters’ arcs this season. Watch Sam’s reaction. I think I might see this I disappointed Dean again face as I rewatch the season. The Showrunner and direction awesome and without knowing the finale as an actor. WOW.
In the pilot, Sam tells Dean he can look for Dad or hunt without him and be okay. Dean’s response is that he does not want to do it alone. In the finale, Sam perceives himself as an impediment to Dean, but the writers stay true to the character from the pilot.
To some who say Benny was just a plot device, well characters are written to advance plot or the leads. There are many examples of how Benny does this in season 8, but I will leave those for another rant. Hey I have watched the finale at least seven times. I have yet to watch without being breathless as the angels fall. Just my POV at the moment.
