Ten Things I’m Loving About Supernatural Season 8
I finally got some time today to read some amazing reports from Vegas Con, not to mention seeing all the pretty pictures. The oh so pretty pictures… Anyway, I ended up getting quite disheartened by reading negative fan comments about how Dean isn’t getting a story line or Sam isn’t getting a story line or this isn’t happening blah, blah, blah. Imagine someone peeing in your cornflakes!
I ended up going back and rewatching some episodes yesterday and you know what, this season is honestly a breath of fresh air. I mean, we’re Supernatural fans. We love our show, right? We haven’t been saying it enough lately.
For fun, I wrote down ten random things that I’m loving about Supernatural Season 8 (in no particular order). Once you read mine, share yours! And I’m only allowing happy thoughts in this thread. Negative posts will disappear into our seventh circle of Hell I like to call unpublished comments.
Without further delay, here are my ten things I’m loving:
1. The new lair! Dean’s new bed remembers him!
2. Sam and Dean’s universe is expanding. After years of seeing recurring characters we love being senselessly killed off, I’m loving that we regularly get to see Kevin, Castiel, and Garth and Charlie are taking a part in their world. Plus we’re meeting new allies like Aaron and his Golem. It’s refreshing to see the brothers interact with human beings again.
3. Sam and Dean are legacies. Men of Letters FTW!
4. The freeze frame. Used twice!
5. Sam’s longer hair
6. Muddy Dean.
7. Scruffy Castiel.
8. The tablet mytharc is creating lots of new possibilities that can go on for seasons.
9. The brotherly moments are a lot better this season than last.
10. Baby is here to stay!
Okay, now your turn! Remember, happy thoughts!!!

How freaky, I just rewatched all of Season 8 episodes yesterday and today and I am still loving them and you hit everyone of the reasons above. I can only think of one other item, Benny (Ty Olsson) he’s coming back! What a hit he was at the Vegas con. I really enjoyed him and feel he will be a great asset to future cons. Yes on the brothers acting like brothers again, Baby is back, Sam’s longer hair, and the new digs for the brothers. Great job as always Alice.
No order ok here goes. 🙄
1. Love the Men of Letters and Hunter sides of the boys.
2. I always wanted the boys to have a home but the Impala has got to be in the batcave. Come on writers, work with me people.
3. They still have Uncle Rufus’ Cabin also. Hope they bring a lot of Bobby’s things to either the batcave or the cabin.
4. I am so so glad they are not killing off everyone too.
5.Castiel as a hunter.
6. Gotta keep the tablets going. So deep, what could happen. I have a very VIVID IMAGINATION 😛
7. Love Benny………Don’t you dare get rid of him writers 😉
8. What to see more of Purgatory. Being hyper-vigilant for a year. I have Special Ops soldiers as friends.
9. I like the dark/Dean & the light/Sam storylines and perspectives.
10. I want the boys to have women in their lives & not get killed or have their memories wiped away, DEAN
I liked this hope I made sense 😆
Miss Wilma! So good to see you here. How have you been?
Great list. You made perfect sense. Thanks for participating!
Agree with everything Nolanola said except 10. I don’t want to see the guys get domestic and happy…they have each other for that! 😆
Why thank you so much. No not domestic, never that 😀
Thanks Alice!
1 MOL Bunker, love it
2 Sam as thor, did he keep that darn thing I wonder? Hope so!
3 Deans nesting, who knew he could be neat and tidy!
4 Yes to the new people, hope we get more too
5 period clothing, face paint, hellhound glasses
6 Cas, poor cas hope he gets normal again ( well normal for him anyway)
7 agree Baby is back and purring
8 loving Benny too
9 The Winchester boys are getting there, I agree they are communicating better, but no chick flic moments lol
10 my favorite show has been renewed! the best!
I agree on all points! I really think this season is taking us back where we need to be if the show is going to go on a bit longer and then end on a high note. It’s not that there were not good episodes in Seasons 6 and 7; there certainly were. But something was missing – the camaraderie between the brothers, for a long while Baby, etc. We’re getting all of this back now, and on top of this, the Men of Letters brings the Winchester mythology full circle. We have symmetry now. I still miss Bobby terribly, and I hope there’s some way we can see Jim Beaver on the show again… only time will tell, I suppose. But, as for me, I’m happy with the season and looking forward to more. Cas is back next week… yay! 😆
I am loving the tablets and MoL arc. I feel like we are learning so much more about the Winchester dynasty, and I hope it continues. I am also kind of liking Naomi, and I’m dying for some intense Castiel drama. He is such an interesting character, and I can’t wait to see where the writers take him.
Next week we’ll def get more Cas drama, which I love/am scared of, although not too scared since he’ll be a regular again next season! I’m assuming they’ll get the whole Naomi issue sorted out by the end of the season cuz I don’t want him to be he bad guy!
The MoL thing is awesome! Not only does it give the boys a home they really haven’t had since Bobby’s house burned down (and they still slept on couches) but a wealth of knowledge that Bobby would have revelled in, sniff, sniff.
This season is definitely more interesting than last season … maybe since season 5. I really can’t wait to see how Carver’s vision has this ending. Although that means it will end … ok, can wait and just enjoy the ride! Next week though, I’m going to have the tissue box handy!
Although have to disagree on Naomi … Tapping is doing a great job with the character but unless she’s being controlled too, she needs to go, with an angel blade! As of right now she’s right up there with Zackariah in my book!
1. The Batcave! I love that the brothers have a new place to call home.
2. The return of Charlie. I love her character! She and Dean have really great chemistry. I would love to see them go out for drinks and pick up women together.
3. I too love Sam’s hair and his five o’clock shadow.
4. Garth is awesome (though I wish he wouldn’t try so hard to be like Bobby. Just a small qubbile) and I can’t wait to see him again.
5. The introduction of the Men of Letters and Sam and Dean being Legacies. I would love to see that become more a part of the plot this season and next.
6. LARP and the Real Girl. Favorite episode so far this season.
7. The fact that season 8 is way less depressing than season 7!
8. Seeing Sam and Dean have fun again in LARP and the Real Girl. Just putting aside the saving people and hunting things to have some a little brotherly time as part of an imaginary battle. The show needs more moments like that.
9. Dean is “nesting”.
10. As fan, being excited for the show again! I kind of lost some of that during season 7, even though I don’t think it was as bad as we think it was; I’ll have to rewatch it again, but I’m glad to be excited for new episodes and making sure that Supernatural is a must watch once again.
Thanks for the upbeat thread! Although I don’t pay much mind to others opinions. I like to think on the good stuff and work with that.
Yes to MoL’s..yes yes to finally seeing a decent reason for all the suffering and loss that the boys have endured…that is worthy…. the Legacy!
The thought has crossed my mind that it may be time…that we consider that “our boys” have become Men! After all aren’t the writers telling us as much? I for one feel they have earned it, and perhaps Jared and Jensen might appreciate the “upgrade”, after 8 seasons. Dying and going to hell has gotta help the street cred~ you know?
I can live with their maturing, and looking forward to what I hope will be the expansion of consciousness that undoubtedly must come with the M of L’s wisdom….
In my heart of hearts they will ever be “the boys”. I don’t believe there will ever be another pair in entertainment who could wrestle that title away from Sam and Dean.
Jensen and Jared will eventually (not really wanting to say this) want to go on and do other stuff. But admit it. Sam and Dean will be Our Boys forever.
They finally, and especially after season 7, have a place they can actually go and feel safe. Even just for a minute or two.
Sam is actually acting as if he might have earned that full ride to Stanford.
And on a shallow note, both “boys” are looking mighty FINE!
Things I loved:
1. Dean can handle his meat.
2. The batcave
3. Sam and Thor’s Hammer
4. Aaron and his Golem
5. Hunter Herioci
6. Opening up their universe with the MoL
7.Garth
8. Charlie is awesome
9.Braveheart Speech
10.Devil’s Trap carved into a bullet? Coolest thing ever!
Things you loved Alice, I loved also. Thanks for something upbeat. We don’t get enough of those.
I’m hoping to see Garth again this season. He’s a sweet guy and I like him a lot. Though no one can replace Bobby in my heart! 😥
I’m loving Benny too.. What I’m hoping for is for Benny to resist his worst nature and for Sam to find out in some way that he is worthy of Dean’s friendship and become his friend as well. Perhaps help Sam to save Dean in some way. Don’t die Benny!
So glad Sammy is not suffering Lucifernations this season. Guess Cas did a great job removing those and taking them on himself.
Loving loving Dean nesting. I’d love to see him cooking up a homemade meal for Sam and himself. Bet he would make a great chef! He must have had lots and lots of practice while growing up and dad being gone all the time.
Loved seeing Dean put the picture of his mom on his table. Made me want to hug him real bad. Of course, I always feel like hugging Dean no matter what! 😛 :-*
Love the boys (men) together this year, getting along, teasing again, not so much of the nasty.
Now if only we could get the Trickster Gabriel back, it would almost be a perfect season! 😉
Lucifernations 😛 LOVING IT ! Been sick and never seen that before. Thanks Bevie
Hi, I think season 8 is one of the best seasons so far! I felt that whilst the other seasons 6 and 7 were still great there was some filler episodes that were in place that I felt were just treading water ready for the finales. I can honestly say I have loved every single episode of season 8 for a lot of the reasons you’ve stated above. I think it’s very evident that the old writing teams are back and hopefully back to stay!! Looking forward to seeing the next episode and the UK convention in May, Woo, Hoo!!!!
A bit of fannish positivity – just what the doctor ordered! (this doc anyway….) I’m loving the way this season has picked up in the second half and launched itself in a direction that feels hopeful and promising and suspenseful in the way early seasons did. I’m loving how together the brothers are again — I always picture them back to back, guns drawn, or shoulder to shoulder, them against the world, but it’s sometimes been hard to see them that way. I do now! They’re a team again.
Having a home base has changed so much for both of them – had a psychological impact on each, and changed the dynamic between them for the better. Who ever thought we’d get Dean ‘nesting’ and it would feel organic and in character instead of jolting and wrong?? But it does – and that calls for big kudos to the writers and the showrunner for making such a big change and pulling it off so beautifully.
I’m also loving that because the boys aren’t so at odds, we can have humor in the episodes again and it feels like it should be there instead of being shoehorned in. The entire show feels congruent and organic and consistent again — and that’s what makes fans want to climb right in and ride along. (In the Impala, of course!)
The actors seemed energized and happy with the way the season is going in the second half too – it was wonderful seeing their infectious smiles and eagerness to share it with fandom at Vegascon.
Thanks for this, Alice!

Has anyone noticed that most favorite moments mentioned here are funny scenes where Sam and Dean are happy? No angst.
I like the bright colorful picture of this season – a vivid contrast to the previous one which was usually dimly lit with confining depressing atmosphere. And, by the way, the picture in Kripke’s years was also different – I miss that broad pale-blue sky over an endless back-road. In later seasons the boys took the habit of riding at night, through the clouds of mist. Dangerous, eh?
So I love Carver’s style. Though, season 7 was my first one, and you know, however rude or crude your first one is, it’s unforgettable. Maybe because of this my fav ep is the finale of “Torn and Flayed” – it was like listening to some good music, very sad but beautiful.
Hooray!! The Boys are Back in Town!! I love me some Season 8!!
I LOVE THIS SITE SO MUCH. I HAVE BEEN SICK & DONT LIKE HUMBUG SO I STAYED AWAY; MISSED YALL JUST THE SAME.
HOW COULD I FORGET CHARLIE, GARTH, AND 1 OF MY FAVES OF ALL TIME, CROWLEY.
DEAN AND HIS MEAT, HUBBA HUBBA. [REMINDED ME OF WHEN HE WAS AT BEN’S BIRTHDAY PARTY AND THE LADIES WERE EYEING HIM LIKE MEAT ON A STICK. HE GOT SO FLUSTERED HE WENT THE WRONG WAY AND THEN BACK AGAIN. A DOUBLE TAKE WALK IS WHAT I CALL IT]
MUST SAY THIS IS NOT MY FAVORITE SEASON, THOUGHT I WOULD WAIT UNTIL BUYING SEASON 9 TO GET 8. I CANT DO IT HOWEVER; I LOVE THIS SHOW AND NOTHING !! NOT ONE THING HAS TAKEN ITS PLACE.
FIRST WAS HIGHLANDER THEN SG-1 NOW SUPERNATURAL. WHEN THEY GO I WONT HAVE A GO TO, GOTTA HAVE IT NOW, SHOW.
GOT SPIN OFFS ALL READY WRITERS AND PRODUCERS.
1. MEN OF LETTERS
2. HUNTERS [STILL WANNA SEE MACKIE BACK FROM THE BORNE AGAIN IDENTITY]
3. PURGATORY/HEAVEN/HELL
IF THEY DONT KILL THEM OFF, WHEN THEY ARE OLD AND GREY I COULD MOST DEF SEE THEM AS BOBBIES OR TEACHERS IN THE MEN OF LETTERS SCHOOL.
SPECIALS NOT A SERIES. MOST PEOPLE LOVE A REUNION SHOW OR SHOWS OF SOME SORT. JMO
For the record: I didn’t love all of season 8 but It’s always helpful to keep in mind what you like about various episodes and seasons.
I feel that the beginning of the season wasn’t great but there some some good things in each episode that gave me a happy despite not liking the episode overall.
But where the season really picked up for me was after Torn And Frayed. The band was back together and the mood felt lighter or more open or something. The best thing I love about ths entire season is the mood change Jeremy Carver managed to pull off from earlier in the season when I was really getting upset about the boys sniping at each other.
I know some people are finding it very difficult to let the inconsistencies of the first part of the season go, but I will happily do that if Ican be this excited, not just about past episodes but forthcoming episodes as well.
There are so many good things this season… and despite a few things that are (currently) disappointing, I am pretty happy with things this season. Here’s what I am loving! (in no particular order):
1. The MoL and the bunker; love S&D having their own “home” to go to and a new (and positive for once) family trait to explore.
2. Dean nesting and cooking; it’s all kinds of adorable. He love’s his creature comforts and he’s entitled, especially after the year he’s had.
3. New and fun characters to interact with such as Garth, Charlie and Benny. Some may cause angst, but it’s still interesting characterizations that affect how the brother’s interact with one another.
4. How awesomely brotherly the boys have been since LARP. I am getting the warm fuzzies just from thinking about it!
5. Naomi; I am loving her and hope she’ll be around for a while as the new Big Bad. Remember how pervasive, medelsome and loathsome Zachariah was in seasons 4 and 5? They need a villian like that again, and she may just fit the bill. I hope she stays around to cause lots of problems.
6. The personal stakes; I am absolutely loving that the current issues the boys are dealing with are so intensely personal to them. This works best IMO, and gives the stories an urgency and immediacy that makes them far more dramatic that wondering why Sam and Dean are even involved.
7. And from the shallow pool, Sam’s glorious mane of hair and his tawny, toned and beautiful awesomeness. Guh, he looks good this season.
Thats it for now
E, you really want one of heavens angels to be the big bad again? I love me some Zach & Gabe & Baltz & Crowley but we need to separate the bad from the good JMO 😉
Isn’t the main reasoning behind the supernatural story that the lines of good and bad are not very distinct. This being the case isn’t supernatural showing the exact opposite of separating good and bad. There’s a little good and bad in everyone or everything. Even Dean’s interpretation of this has been stretched. In season 1 if he thought it was a monster he’d kill it. Now in s8 with everything they’ve been through he was best friends with a vampire.
That’s a good question Nolanola…. I just want a really threatening big bad, one that makes me want to reach into the tv to get at them. It doesn’t have to be an angel per se, just some one who causes trouble in a convincing way and is scary. Angel or no Naomi is on her way, but it’s not clear yet what her agenda is. I absolutely loved Zachariah; slimy, underhanded, loathe some, and a real threat. Amanda Tapping is such a good actress… She could be the big bad for sure!!!
Cheryl & E you have great points. tysm 😮
I was re watching S7 and the end of the season cliffhanger… made me start S8 again (I know, what can I say…).
1. The guest stars from the past, Lee Meriweather, Mike
Farrell, Hal Linden…
2. Papa Ackles!!
3. Purgatory flash backs
4. Love when they learn new tricks, reverse exorcism, trap
on bullet, hell hounds glasses, etc.
5. How it was directed Blood Brothers. And the last scene!!
6. Benny. I don’t care if they keep him or not. The way he
was developed, the actor, the chemistry with Jensen, it’s
lovely.
7. MOL concept, the bunker and Granpa Winchester.
8. Dean’s bedroom and Dean in a robe
9. The guys interaction are getting back again. In order to be
complete, I just need to hear them from time to time, to
speak at the same time.
10. The introduction of new possible allies.
I have an 11th thing that I love from S8.
11. I love that in S8 I discovered The Winchester Family Business.com, from whom I learned things beyond the actual show. For example, I didn’t know about the conventions or that one can watch parts of them in YouTube, yeah, I’m an oldie who is reliving her days of Starsky & Hutch’s super fan with this show. Oh! and practicing my English too… Thanks!
Manstrad I LOVE YOUR #4 I love WFB also Alice was so kind to me I know NOTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS NOR WEBSITE ETC. She IS a peach.
This is my 1st and only site. Think I chose well
You English is FINE, BETTER THAN MINE 😛
I agree NOLANOLA, she is nice, and everybody in WFB, I chose well too.
I like your name… reminds me of Oh, my NOLA.
This is a great idea! I agree with all of yours.
I love (in no particular order):
1. Sam’s ponytail;
2. Dean’s mattress remembering him;
3. Dean nesting;
4. the carving on the bullet;
5. Baby (but a garage is absolutely necessary);
6. Braveheart;
7. less arguing;
8. the robe;
9. smiles; and
10. Dean’s total hotness in Purgatory.
Great post. I just located your blog and wished to let you know that I have certainly loved reading your blogs. At any rate I’m going to be subscribing to your feed and I really hope you are writing again soon. Organic home business
Thanks Alice for making us all smile by remembering the great parts of season 8.
My list is:
1. Purgatory. I loved the ‘feel’ of it and the way it was portrayed.
2. Deans HOTNESS in Purgatory (absolutely with you on this love2boys!)
3. Benny. Hope him and Sam soon see eye to eye as I really enjoy Benny and Dean together.
4. Great guest stars, e.g. Papa Ackles, Mike Farrel, Adam Rose.
5. Familiar faces again like Garth and Charlie.
6. New faces like Aaron and his Golem, hope we see them again.
6. The Batcave – awesome set. So friggin happy the boys have a place to call ‘home’.
7. Memory foam, dressing gowns, leather pants and pony tails.
8. Men of Letters and Grandpa Winchester. A link to their past.
9. That the ‘boys’ have a connection to the story line, that it is personal for them.
10. Smiles and sexy glasses.
Joining the shallow pool here for number 11: Jensen’s long legs are killing me this season, I swear they have grown longer. From Purgatory to him walking down the road in Episode 1…….what was I saying *swoon*.
Loving this season!
Thanks for this Alice.. As they used to say “Accentuate the positive.. Eliminate the negative.. And don’t mess with Mr. In-Between!”
Although on Supernatural, wouldn’t Mr In-Between end up being a deliciously smarmy villian? Who could add drama and angst?.. So maybe Sam and Dean should mess with him!
Ten things I’m loving:
1. Purgatory with Dean in it.. Gah!! More please!!!!
2. Sam finally got to have his own dog (we shall not speak of the second dog featured this season)
3. Sam’s hair and jokes about Sam’s hair
4. The fact Jensen and Dean both seem to be getting better with age.. Sigh.. “It’s like looking in the sun!”
5. Sam gets his books and Dean gets his home with the bed that remembers him! (Wouldn’t any bed remember Dean? Just sayin’!)
6. They’re actually hunting things and saving people again, and they’re winning a case now and then!
7. New characters and better development & use of returning characters
8. BENNY!!!! and Aaron and The Golem.. I particularly want these characters to hang around for a while. I loved the chemistry between Aaron and his Golem. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again — a spin-off (or at least a fanfiction) called Feat of Clay!!! (I love puns, double entendres etc!).. And the return of Baby!!!! She was much, much missed.
9. Our Boys2Men (in keeping with the theme of the Winchesters maturing into men, and having a more mature relationship) are caring and sharing, a bit these days. They’re seeming to be fond of each other, to want to be around each other. It’s like they’re rebuilding their relationship, again, some more, to be healthier and stronger, but probably just as co-dependent (the way we love i!).
and finally….
10. BOYS IN GLASSES!!!! (I was trying to add the pictures to illustrate my point.. I was not successful.)
Thanks for this suggestion!
I’m smiling!
Pragmatic Dreamer 😀
I loved the chemistry between Aaron and his Golem. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again — a spin-off (or at least a fanfiction) called Feat of Clay!!! (I love puns, double entendres etc!)..
I am LOL! I LOVE puns! Feat of Clay – OMG! Hee hee 😀 😆 😀
I am loving EVERYTHING about this season. Someone said they would like Dean to get a women. I don’t want a women; but I would like to see him get, let’s say some “action”, to be PC. No complaints that he hasn’t though. I am totally satisfied with this season. Feels renewed somehow.
SEMI-REGULAR BOOTY CALL 🙄 THANKS MISS PENNY. NOT DOMESTIC, NOT YET ANYWAY
Hi Alice, I agree with your list and pretty much everyone else’s! See, all positive. 🙂 I’m just in love with this season sooo much. Love the new digs and Dean’s room especially. 😉 The set for the MoL’s lair is just so unbelievably beautiful, I would just die to have such a library at my disposal. Can’t wait for this week’s ep, the return of Meg, Crowley & Cass, oh my. 😛
Alice,
Thanks SO much for a positive thread! I feel happy just reading everyone’s upbeat comments!
I agree with everything you said, and everyone else’s additions ! This season has many, many great episodes. Blood Brother and Trial and Error are classics. I rewatch them whenever I can. Purgatory, the bunker and MOL are masterpieces.
My favorite, though, is Hunteri Herioci. I can watch that every night because it always lightens my mood, no matter what my day was like. I just wait for the cat (“dumb a**”) and Castiel saying “the icing hit supersonic speed”! I love that they brought in Mike Farrell, the comic references, the freeze frame, and the Ode to Joy at the end – perfection.
I am excited that Jeremy Carver has pumped new life into the series. I hold enormous hopes for the rest of the season!
I have to think about the 10 and I shall do just that and come back, but before I even read your list, you said imagine someone peeing in your corn flakes and THAT is the very thing that kept me out of here for awhile. I was sick of the whining and complaining about the very things you said. The season hadn’t even gotten going and folk were mad already crying foul over Sam or Dean or whatever. All I knew is it started with that sexy man pointing that gun at those campers demanding to be shown the road and that was IT FOR ME. I knew I would be hooked and it just got better and then we got to Kevin being tortured and all that jazz and that was the first breathless episode for me. That was when I said to myself, “This is it. My new favorite season.”
Now I feel it is safe to come back and read. I still hate spoilers so I come AFTER the show airs, but people are finally chilling out and letting things happen. Hasn’t Supernatural always been full of surprises? I think it still is. So my 10? Gotta think. Oh wait! No I don’t!
1 – Sam and Dean have a home, a new understanding of who they are – I just love how we see the marrying of their hunter side and new MOL side, brain and brawn, Mary and John, Sam and Dean. Ohhh! I’m melting over here.
2 – Dean is nesting and has a room (but why are we saying for the first time? We saw his room in DSOTM.)
3 – The guys are being way more direct with each other. LOTS of people are being more direct! Yay!
4 – We get callbacks to past seasons and some precious continuity.
5 – I LOVE BENNY. He better come back.
6 – Dean – IMO – places a greater value on his own life.
7 – Sam seems to have found a new level of understanding about himself, his brother and the business AND maybe some balance with that and his desire to have a real life.
8 – I LOVE MEG. She better come back.
9 – I love even the idea that Meg and Cass may get a chance to explore their thing. THEY BETTER COME BACK.
10 – I am astounded, breathless, amazed, mad, happy, excited just about every episode. I love that.
Thanks for this lovefest, Alice. I needed it.
Great post
I loved Dean in Purgatory and the Sam´s story with Amelia, I expected more, but I think the writers cut it short, and I like Kevin.
This article is really informative. I enjoy the amount of detail that has gone into this page. I will absolutely be a daily visitor from now on. Dont stop the great writing! tips how to use mobile marketing
