Robin’s Rambles – Supernatural 8.02, “What’s Up Tiger Mommy?”
What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?
Season 8, Episode 2
Robin’s Rambles by Robin Vogel
Now – Chicago, IL – A Mr. Villi comes to open safety deposit box #1, to the teller’s surprise. They did a renovation of the bank, so they put his inside a new one, she says, revealing an ancient box with a key atop it. He grins as he opens the box and takes out. . .”I’m sorry, sir,” the teller says, “but is that a bone?” “An extremely valuable one,” he assures her. She’s glad they were able to keep it safe for him all these years, she says, and asks if he needs anything else. “Yes, a withdrawal,” he tells her, killing her, splashing her blood all over the safety boxes.
“You’re kidding me,” says Dean to Kevin over food in some outdoor rest stop. The boy wants to check on his mother, even though it’s a day’s drive in the opposite direction. He doesn’t want to see what happened to Channing happen to his mother. “Kid’s got a point,” agrees Sam. “Stay out of this,” orders Dean, and assures Kevin his mother is fine. “How can you possibly know that?” Kevin asks. “Crowley needs to keep her safe,” insists Dean, “and is protecting her so he can pounce on you both, she’s bait, man, you want to swim right up to the hook? We have Crowley by the short and curlies, we have to get the tablet, whip up the spell and boom, sunshine and sandy beaches.” “Mom’s all alone, surrounded by demons, can’t you understand why I want to make sure she’s OK?” asks Kevin. Dean and Sam exchange a look. Dean throws down his sandwich. “Son of a bitch!” he exclaims–“Let’s go!” They’re off in the Impala.
Neighbor, MI – Spying on Kevin’s Mom from the car, Sam says, “Tiger Mom, nine o’clock.” He hands the binoculars to Kevin, who looks at her gazing through the window. She seems sad, but okay, and Kevin is relieved. Dean points out that the gardener and mailman are demons.
The Winchesters turn off the water, forcing the demon gardener to check it out at the source. Dean kills him with the DKK. Noticing his fellow demon fall, the mailman goes to check; Dean waves at him before Sam knifes him in the chest.
Inside, a friend assures Kevin’s mom that he’ll be back. “You just have to believe.” “I do believe,” says Mrs. Tran, “I just wish I could do more.” “You’re doing all you can by staying here,” the friend says, “Kevin needs to know he has a home to come back to.” Moments later, mother and son have a joyous reunion when Kevin knocks at the door, but not before the Winchesters intervene and Dean splashes her with holy water to make sure she isn’t a demon. “She’s clean,” says Dean tersely, sending Kevin into his mother’s delighted embrace. The brothers smell something, and they leave mother and son holding each other in the doorway to investigate. Sam instantly begins to recite Latin, sending the demon fleeing into the neighbor’s mouth in a thick plume of smoke. He stabs her with the DKK. “EUNICE!” Linda cries, as her friend’s body falls to the floor. “That’s not Eunice,” says Dean. “Your friend was possessed by a demon,” explains Sam. “Have you ever seen THE EXORCIST?” Kevin asks. “Is that what you’ve been doing all year?” His mother asks sharply, “Watching television?” To Sam, “Did you really have to kill her?” “Demon would have warned Crowley where Kevin was if we didn’t,” says Dean. “And Crowley is the one who kidnapped you?” Mrs. Tran asks. “Yeah”, says Kevin, “he wants me to translate his stupid tablet so he can take over the universe or something.” “We need to get the tablet so we can slam the gates of hell shut forever with Crowley inside,” explains Dean. “So things like that (Sam points to Eunice) don’t ever happen again.” “Prophet of the lord does have a nice ring to it, agrees Mrs. Tran, standing. “I’ll get packed.” “We’ll need a safe house,” says Dean, “you’re going to a demon-free zone.” “And risk letting Kevin fall into the hands of this Crowley again?” exclaims Mama, “I don’t think so!” (I understand, Mama, I really do!) Sam tries to explain to her how Crowley trades in torment and is a really bad dude, and if he can find a way to separate her from her soul, he’ll roast it till there’s nothing left but black smoke. “It’s best if you let us handle this.” “I understand,” she says, “but it’s not my soul I’m worried about, it’s my son’s.” Dean asks for Kevin’s support, his mother wants to jump right back into the fire they just pulled her out of. “Like I can tell her what to do?” Kevin says. Getting a MOTHER look from Mrs. Tran, Dean outlines conditions of her coming along: hex bags, and getting inked up. Sam reveals his tattoo and says, “You, too short stop, keeps the demons out.” “Fine,” says Mrs. Tran. “What?–like it’s my first tattoo.” Kevin is stunned, Dean, impressed.
At the tattoo parlor, Kevin is in lots of pain and Mrs. Tran stoic as they are inked up. She reaches for her son’s hand to help him out in his discomfort. “Smell it, Sammy,” says Dean, watching from outside. “Burning flesh?” asks Sam. “Revenge,” says Dean, “so close, how did you do that reverse exorcism thing?” “Just said the verse backwards,” says Sam. Dean looks at him, impressed. Kevin is still screaming.
Laramie, Wyoming – Bus station – Sam pronounces the place clean, as far as he can tell. Kevin hands a key to Dean, who advises positive thoughts. He opens a locker. “You hid the word of God in a diaper bag?” Dean asks. “No,” answers Kevin. It’s empty. “Shut up,” Dean tells a grinning Sam, angrily tossing everything back in the locker.
A security guard tells a suited-up Sam and Dean that a guy named Clem Smedley, a former security guy, broke into a lot of the lockers. He’s down in County, awaiting arraignment now. Sam thanks him.
The brothers go to visit Clem, who is impressed about the hidden camera that caught him. Sam asks about the tablet. “Can I even acknowledge that without my lawyer here?” Clem asks. Sam assures him they can work out a little somethin-somethin with the locals if he cooperates.
This sends Dean into a Purgatory flashback. He and Ben are questioning (torturing) some creature, trying to locate Cas. Clem is asking for full immunity for all charges, past and present. Dean takes off his tie and wraps it around Clem’s throat, pushes him against a wall and holds the DKK to his neck; we see a similar scene happening with the creature chained to a tree in Purgatory. “Hey,” warns Sam. The creature tells Dean of a circle not far from here. “How about you just show me,” suggests Dean. “Hey, Dean!” Sam calls to his brother. “Pawn shop,” chokes out Clem, “First and Main.” “Go on,” urges Dean, in Purgatory, and we assume, here, too. “Three days’ journey, follow the stream, there’s a clearing,” says the creature, “you’ll find your angel there.” “You know what, Mutt?” Dean asks, “I believe you.” But he sticks the knife into the creature’s throat, anyway, and gestures for Benny to come along. Dean lets go of Clem and gestures for Sam to come along, too. Clem is alive, at least.
The foursome pull up in front of the pawn shop. Kevin admires a gorgeous red sports car. Mama says “HEY!,” moving her son along. They tell the proprietor they’re looking for a tablet with some hieroglyphics on it, sold by a thief named Clem. Lyle claims to know nothing. “I’ve had a really bad day today,” says Dean, “so if you want to do it the rough way.” “Sure,” says Lyle, “if you want to get famous. . .” He points to the cameras strung up everywhere. “Is that your car outside?” Mama asks. “What’s it to you, Mail Order?” Lyle asks rudely. “I notice you driving with expired tags,” she says, “maybe you just acquired it in a trade, I’m guessing you haven’t registered it yet, which means you haven’t paid the tax, is that correct?” “None of your business,” says Lyle uneasily. “Kevin, average Blue Book on a 2010 Ferrari F430 Spyder?” She asks. “217,000,” her son supplies.” And the five percent Wyoming tax?” She asks. “Ten thousand, eight hundred and fifty,” says Sam. “Something tells me your the kind who might balk at a tax bill that big,” says Mama. “What is this, an FBI audit?” Lyle asks. “My brother works for the Tax Assessor’s office and might arrange that,” says Mama, “if he thought something untoward was happening here, so what’s it going to be?–the tablet?–or that piece of Eurocrap trash you call a car?” (You GO, Mama!)
Room 126, some motel. They knock at the door – The man we saw at the beginning, dressed in a gray striped suit with matching hat and walking cane, strolls up. He knows Kevin, and assures the brothers he isn’t going to steal their Prophet. “And you must be his mother,” the man adds. “Beau, and it is my absolutely pleasure.” He kisses her hand; she can’t help smiling at his charm. “Imagine my luck, I was looking so hard for you, I never stopped to think you might be looking for me, I have something for you.” “What is it?” Dean asks brusquely. An invitation, the man says, to a very rare auction. He takes out an envelope with fancy handwriting on it. “Lemmee guess,” says Dean, “where you’ll be SELLING the tablet.” “When we acquire an item as hard to unload as the Word of God, it’s smart to unload it as fast as possible,” the man admits, “and we are in such desperate need of a headliner for tonight’s gala.” “I hope you have three extra tickets to your little eBay party,” says Dean, “because the Prophet’s with us.” The man assures them that they won’t be cast, cursed or supernaturally flicked against the wall, it’s against policy. “Is that right?” Asks Sam, “How did you manage that?” “I am the right hand of a God, after all,” the man says, “Plutus, specifically.” “Is that even a planet anymore?” Dean asks. “God of Greed,” the man says, “and no one from hell, heaven or beyond is welcome, making it the safest place for Kevin to be, since time is of the essence, he’ll add plus three to Kevin’s invitation, copacetic?” He tosses the envelope into the air and disappears. “Thank you, Mr. Peanut!” Dean calls. What can they possibly bid? When Dean realizes Sam is considering the Impala, he threatens his children’s children’s children. Since they display the items beforehand, all they need to do is get Kevin close enough to memorize the spell. “Can you swing it, Brainiac?” Dean asks. “Of course he can,”says Mama, “if the bumper stickers on my Previa mean anything.” “He didn’t mean it, Baby,” Dean assures the Impala. Sam gives him a look.
Only Dean sets off the metal detector at the entrance to the auction, and he’s forced to leave all his weapons, including the DKK, in a box at the door. I’ll be back for this, he promises, referencing the DKK. They walk around the glass enclosed artifacts. “How are we supposed to know who’s who?” Dean asks his brother. “Simple, they’re all monsters,” replies Sam. When they find the tablet, it’s covered on both sides with something (lead, perhaps)? “Guess we’re not as original as we thought,” says Kevin. “We’ll have to come up with a plan B,” says Sam. “What, pray tell, could possibly have been Plan A?” queries someone standing nearby, CROWLEY! “Bring the Prophet to the most dangerous place on earth, memorize the tablet, then vamoose?” the demon says. “Hello, boys.”
“Crowley,” snarls Dean. Kevin, says Crowley, stepping forward. “Sorry about your little playdate. . .that name. . .sometimes to make an omelet, you have to break some spines. . .who is THIS lovely young thing?–must be your sister.” Mama hauls off and punches Crowley, very hard. “Let’s do it for my son,” she says. “Charming,” says Crowley, “defiling her corpse is just number one on my to-do list.” Dean starts to step in, but Sam stops him. Crowley warns him that anymore than a little love tap and his mookie pals just might throw him out, and that would be a shame. “Listen to Moose, Squirrel,” agrees Crowley. A plump man passes by; Crowley pronounces him their host. “That’s Plutus?” Dean says, “What is he, God of the candy aisle?”
The guy in the gray-striped suit informs them the auction is starting. “Good luck with the bidding,” says Crowley. Dean looks unhappy. “Nice right hook,” Sam tells Mama. A kid dressed in a red and white Wiener Hut uniform comes up to Dean. He’s taken over this vessel; he knew Cas. “I don’t usually come to things like this,” he says. “You’re chasing the magic rock,” says Dean. “We protect the Word of God,” corrects the kid. “Awesome job so far. . .Alfie,” says Dean, reading his name tag. “Actually, my name is Samandriel,” corrects the angel. Dean wants to stick with Alfie. The kid wants to know what happened to Castiel. “We iced Dick Roman,” explains Dean, and “got a one-way ticket to Purgatory for our trouble.” “YOU escaped,” says the kid, “did Castiel?” When Dean doesn’t answer, the kid gulps down tears. “There are some in heaven who believe, despite his mistakes,” says Alfie, “that Castiel’s heart was always in the right place.” “Are you one of them?” Dean asks. “Too much heart was always Cas’ problem,” says Alfie, and he sadly walks away.
We see the past, and Cas washing his hands and face at a brook. Dean finds and calls him. “Dean,” says Cas. Dean’s laughing and embracing his friend. “It’s good to see you,” says Dean, teasing. “Nice peach fuzz.” “Thank you,” says Cas, without inflection. Dean introduces him to Benny. “How did you find me?” Cas asks, not happy. “You feelin’ OK?” Dean asks. “You mean am I still,”, Cas makes the sign of crazy around his head, “no, I’m perfectly sane, but then, 94 percent of psychotics think they’re perfectly sane, so I guess we’d have to ask ourselves, what is sane?” “Good question,” Dean agrees. Benny asks, “Why did you bail on Dean?” “Dude,” says Dean, not wanting him to ask. But Benny feels Dean deserves an explanation after Cas bailed out on him. “We were surrounded, OK?” says Dean, “Some freak jumped Cas, obviously, he kicked it’s ass, right?” “No,” says Cas, “I ran away, I had to.” “That’s your excuse for leaving me with those guerilla wolves?” Dean demands. “Dean. . .”Cas begs. “You bailed out and what?” Dean demands, “Went campin?–I prayed to you, Cas, every night!” “I know,” says Cas. “You KNOW, and you didn’t”, begins Dean. Benny looks furious. “What the hell is wrong with you?” Dean asks. “I was an angel in a land of abominations,” says Cas, “There were things hunting me from the moment I arrived!” “JOIN THE CLUB!” Cries Dean. “These are not just monsters, Dean, they are Leviathan!” Says Cas, “I have a price on my head and I’ve been trying to stay one step ahead of them, to. . .to keep them away from you, that’s why I ran. . .just leave me, please.” “Sounds like a plan,” opines Benny, let’s roll. “Hold it,” insists Dean, Cas, “we’re getting out of here, we’re going home.” “Dean, I can’t,” says Cas. “You can,” says Dean, “Benny, tell him.” “Purgatory has an escape hatch,” says Benny, “but I got no idea if it’s an angel train.” “But we’ll figure it out,” says Dean, “Cas, buddy, I need you.” “Dean. . .”pleads Cas. “If a Leviathan wants to take a shot at us, let him,” says Dean-“We ganked those bitches once before, we can do it again.” “It’s too dangerous,” says Cas. “Let me bottom-line it for you,” says Dean, “I’m not leaving here without you, understand?” “I understand,” Cas says.
Fade to present. Gray-suit calls to Ladies, gentlemen and other, welcome to this once-in-a-lifetime event. Crowley greets the young angel Alfie and asks him if he’s slumming it. Magical and alchemical esoterica, is how Gray-suit describes this auction. The foursome takes our their cash. Our prices may be high, but our quality is unmatched, and we stand by our products. Behind them, Crowley mutters that he doesn’t understand why they want that hunk of dirt, so, it tells them how to blast back a few demons. “I’ll just make more, can’t get rid of all my black-eyed boys, Samantha.” “We’ll see,” predicts Sam. They pool their resources, two grand, credit cards and a Cosco membership. First item, an amulet of Hesperus, is up for 3 tons of dwarvan gold. The foursome look at each other. HUH? Crowley grins. “Plan C?” Says Sam. Big time, agrees Dean, who rises to use the restroom.
Dean follows a man wheeling a batch of merchandise into a room, which he closes, locks and pockets the key. Dean bumps into him on his way back, and picks the key from his pocket. He unlocks the door, but two men are in there, and so is the tablet. “This isn’t the men’s room,” Dean says, closing the door. Back at the auction, the Hammer of Thor has gone up for bid, and the man who withdrew the finger bone from his safety deposit box is bidding that grotesque digit for it. Gray-suit gets a negative from the man in charge, so the man offers 5/8’s of a virgin in a bloody bag, too, causing Sam’s eyebrows to go up in confusion. “Sold,” says Gray-suit. Dean returns to report that Plan C tanked. “Try Plan D, for Dumb-ass,” suggests Crowley. Next lot, the Word of God, very old, very rare, says Gray-suit. Crowley rises, “Three billion dollars,” he bids. “Wow,” say the brother in unison. “The Mona Lisa,” offers Samandriel. “The real Mona Lisa, where she’s topless.” Crowley asks. “Vatican City,” says the angel. “Alaska,” says Crowley. “Palin and the Bridge to Nowhere,” says Gray-suit, “no thanks.” “All right, the moon,” offers Crowley. “You’re bidding the moon?” Dean says in disbelief. “You think a man named Buzz gets to go into space without making a deal?” Crowley asks softly. “I’m sorry,” says Gray-suit, “our reserve price has not been met, so, in order to stimulate the bidding, we’re going to add an item to this lot, Kevin Tran, Prophet of the Lord.” Mama make a sound of horror. Kevin is suddenly gone from beside her, chained to the wall. Sam and Dean are pushed down in their seats by a giant goon. “Mr. Tran is the only person who can read this tablet,” says Gray-suit, “which make them a perfect matching set.” Mama has risen to her feet. “Stop!” She cries, “I’ll give you whatever you want!–I have a 401K!–my house.” There is laughter. Good effort, says Gray-suit, but I’m afraid this is a little out of your price range. “My soul,” she pledges. “Mom,” don’t! Pleads Kevin. “I bid my soul,” Mama repeats. “Are you sure?” Dean asks, “That’s a big move.” “Interesting,” says the head man. “If it’s souls you’re after,” says Crowley, “I can give you a million.” Dean turns to the angel and asks, “Are you gonna get in on this?” “I guard the souls in heaven, we don’t horse-trade them, answers the angel.” “Do we have a deal?” Crowley asks. The head honcho insists it isn’t the quantity, but the sacrifice. “This little lady’s soul is the most valuable thing she has, it’s everything, you will endow for everything, Mr. Crowley.” “Tick tock,” mocks Dean. “Fine, you win,” says Crowley, “I bid my own soul!” The head honcho bursts into laughter and says, “Mr. Crowley, you don’t have a soul.” To Mama, he says, “Congrats, sweetheart.” “Thank you,” says Mama. Pissed off, Crowley exits. Kevin is very upset. Sam and Dean aren’t very happy, either.
Sitting together in the empty auction room, Mama asks if losing her soul will hurt. “Probably,” answers Dean. “Will I die?” She asks, “No, you’ll just wish you were dead,” says Sam. Gray-suit enters. “It’s time,” he says. Sam and Dean stand. “You all right?” Dean asks. “Yeah,” she says tearfully, “can I just have a minute?” “This sucks,” says Sam. “I can’t believe we’re about to close the gates of hell forever,” says Dean, “if you ask me, we got off cheap.” Bracing her shoulders, Mrs. Tran rises. “Excuse me, Miss?” The young angel says, joining her. “Hi, my name’s Alfie, I’m an angel.” “Who works at Wiener Hut?” Mama asks, perplexed. “No, this is. . .it doesn’t matter,” he says, “What you did in here is amazing. And I want you to know that my friends and I can protect your son, the Winchesters are exceptional men, but they’re just men, if Kevin comes with us–” “No,” she says, the last time angels tried to help my son, I watched them die, and Kevin went missing for a year, so no offense, but I’m going to take my chances with them.” He nods and leaves.
The weird man takes his Hammer of Thor. “I’ve missed you,” he croons. “Where’s the kid?” Dean demands. Kevin is brought out. “What are you going to do with her soul?” Sam asks. “Whatever I want,” the head honcho responds, “I might sell it, or maybe just tuck it away with my other precious objects, let them keep me warm at night, mmmmm,” he leers at Mama. He holds out his arms. “Whenever you’re ready, dear,” he says. She steps forward to take his hand. WAIT! Dean insists, pushing up her sleeve. “Hello, boys,” says Mama in a deep voice, “Crowley?”–her eyes go red and she pushes them violently aside. “You can’t, my warding spells,” objects the head honcho. “Your Girl Friday showed me a few loopholes,” sneers Mama/Crowley. Gray-suit just shrugs in resignation. (Flashback: After Mama refuses the angel’s help, Gray-suit tells her that was very, very stupid! and burns the warding-off tattoo from her arm.) “And all it cost me was an island in the South Pacific,” brags Mama/Crowley, “I love a bargain.” Gray-suit knifes the head honcho with a stake which Mama/Crowley pulls from his chest and tosses into the chest of the guard standing between Gray-suit and Kevin. “Can’t do all my tricks,” says Mama/Crowley, “but I can do enough.” “GET OUT OF HER!” Kevin cries. Dean fishes his DKK out of the box containing all the confiscated weapons. Mama/Crowley has taken the tablet. “If I had a nickel for every time someone has screamed THAT at me,” she smirks. Sam tackles her to the ground, “Getting in touch with your feminine side, huh, Crowley?” taunts Dean. “Something like that, she says,” back on her feet, tablet still in her grasp. “Well come and get ’em,” Dean invites. “One outta two ain’t bad,” she says, and runs off. “Watch the kid,” orders, Dean and pounds after the demon. Kevin tries to run after them, but Sam grabs and stops him. Gray-suit is there with a gun, and bullets, firing at them.
Gray-suit gets Kevin in his sight, forcing him to halt. “You know what’s better than one private island?” He asks, two private islands. Sam comes up behind him and whomps him with Thor’s Hammer, which he borrowed from it’s owner. Kevin takes off. “Okay, give it back,” the hammer’s owner says, holding out his hand. “Where did you get the 5/8ths of a virgin?” Sam asks. The old man shrugs, smiles and doesn’t answer. Sam strikes him with the hammer, reducing him to nothing.
Dean catches up to Mama/Crowley, DKK at her throat. (Was he going to kill the demon, and Mama Tran?) Kevin comes upon them. “MOM!” He calls. Crowley exits in a plume of red smoke. Crowley, brushing dirt off his coat, says, that was exciting. He bends down and picks up the tablet. Kevin kneels beside his unconscious mother. “Good luck closing the Gates of Hell, without this,” he say. “Surprising what Mommy dearest has rattling around in her head, wanna know who your real father is?–scandalous!” “Crowley!” Dean says. “I know we’re not mates, Kevin,” says the demon, “but one word of advice, run, run far, and run fast, cause the Winchesters, they have a habit of using people up and watching them die, bloody. Toodles.” Dean glares after him as he departs.
Kevin sits before his silent mother. “Has she said anything?” Sam asks. Kevin shakes his head. “What your Mom went through, it’s hell,” says Dean, “trust me, I know, but she seems tough, she’ll pull it together.” “You tried to kill her,” Kevin accuses, crying. “Kid, in this life. . .” begins Dean. “Shut up!” Kevin orders, “I don’t wanna hear anymore of your crappy speeches; I just wanna talk to my mom, I love her.” “Sure,” agrees Dean. “Ten minutes,” Sam says, and he and Dean exit the room. “Mom?” pleads Kevin, reaching out to her. She stares straight ahead, wordless.
Outside the room, Sam asks his brother, “Were you really going to. . .” “What?–slit soccer Mom’s throat?” Finishes Dean. “Yeah, I was, wish I had.” “Dean,” begins Sam. “It was Crowley,” Dean reminds him, “no matter what meat suit he was in, I should have knifed him.” Seeing reproach on Sam’s face, Dean adds, “Yeah, it would have sucked and I would have hated myself, but, what’s one more nightmare, right?” Sam makes a bitch-face. “Does it seem a little quiet in there to you?” Dean asks. When they check, Kevin and his mother are gone. “Kevin?” Sam calls. “KEVIN!” Dean calls more loudly. “You gotta be kiddin me!” Kevin left a note, they bolted, we shouldn’t come looking, since we lost the tablet, Kevin figures we don’t need him. “Yeah, but Crowley still does,” Sam says desperately, what’s that kid thinking? “He thinks people I don’t need anymore, they end up dead,” reads Dean from the note. “Dean, that’s not true, you know that,” Sam assures him. Dean crumples up the note and has a flashback of holding Cas’ hand as he’s about to fall. “DEAN!” Cas calls desperately.
Wow, what an amazing episode! I so loved Mama Tran, giving up her soul for her son. I mean, I’m the mother of an only son, and I FELT her heartbreak and desperation. I loved it that her one soul was worth the million Crowley was offering up. Go, soccer moms!
Here we learned more about what happened when Dean (and Benny) found Cas in Purgatory. Cas agreed to join Dean, but something apparently went wrong, and Cas either died or was lost somehow. We know Cas didn’t come back with Dean and Benny, or at least it appears he didn’t. What happened? We don’t know yet, not the whole story, but it doesn’t look good for Dean. It looks like he let Cas down somehow.
Wild auction, huh? Weird pieces, weird payment, weird participants. Our heroes wanted to pay by plain old money and Cosco membership, Mr. Vili had an ancient bone! I was glad Sam killed that bizarre creature with his own Hammer of Thor, especially after he murdered the poor teller earlier in the episode. Dean has become pretty bloodthirsty, though, or returned to his bloodthirsty ways. He was going to kill Mama/Crowley and felt it was the right thing to do, even if it meant killing Kevin’s mother. I suspect that’s the main reason Kevin fled. He saw that Dean wasn’t really willing to protect them any longer.
On to our questions.
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
7. Who or what was Gray-suit? Besides just the auctioneer?
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
Its a big yay for me. Loved this episode. Am loving the purgatory flashbacks. The interrogation scene was really well directed. I give it a 9 too. Wish it had a bit more rock music though. Jensen’s acting is just too good. His portrayal of purgatory Dean is awesome.
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
I think the portal does not allow angels and Dean had to let go of Cas so that he could get out. Dean is too loyal to just let Cas down without trying. Atleast thats what I hope. Also I think Cas will survive. They wont kill him this season. Its supposed to be abt angels & demons, so Cas will make it and join the boys.
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
It was funny. Liked it. Crowley bidding the moon and then his own (non existent) soul were good. Sam and the Thor hammer was fun.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
Knowing Sam & Dean for 7+ yrs I would say no. He should have stuck with them. But Kevin doesnt know them as well as us. So it is understandable. But I think its a bad move. Crowley will give him hell (pun unintended).
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
Crowley was menacingly great as always. No idea abt his dad. Maybe Chuck 🙂
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
Sam said the exorcism spell backwards. So the demon that was trying to escape got trapped back into the body, which they were able to kill with the DKK.
7. Who or what was Gray-suit? Besides just the auctioneer?
He was the right hand man for Plutus.
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay? I’m closer to a six or a seven. The plot was good, but the characterization of Sam (especially and again) and Dean seemed off. This may get explained later on, which would make me upgrade the episode. However, I have had problems with D&L’s characterization and episodes before, so that could be it as well.
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny? Other than something bad, I don’t know.
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all? Seeing what the various bidders had to bid, Vatican City, the moon. That part was amusing.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee? Too soon to tell if he was right. If he can protect her then yes. It was, however understandable. He had just seen Dean willing to kill his mom. That would make me run too.
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself? Crowley is definitely becoming more of a villain and less of an antagonist who the boys work with. I love Crowley in any form, so I’m good. I suspect Kevin’s father will become important (Don’t be John Winchester, Don’t be John Winchester), but I doubt it is Crowley. The last time we saw a demon/human child was Jesse, the Antichrist. Okay, his mother was a virgin and we don’t know about Mrs. Tran, but unless they want to throw out that piece of canon (and they have ignored it ever since it came up) I think that Crowley is NOT Kevin’s father (Don’t be John Winchester, Don’t be John Winchester)
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please. I’m hoping it is a hint that Sam wasn’t quite as inactive on the hunting front as he is saying OR on the Dean looking for front. For being completely out of hunting Sam suddenly demonstrates a new technique that they never thought of before and he’s fast at it. How fast? Try reciting the alphabet backward quickly, without practicing a LOT.
7. Who or what was Gray-suit? Besides just the auctioneer? His name was Beau. He was the right hand “man” to Plutus. And he’s conveniently dead. That’s all I’ve got. As I said earlier, I find D&L scripts sometimes miss some things OR a scene got cut out.
Now I have a question How did Sam wield the Hammer of Thor? Apparently in comic book canon only someone worthy can wield it. Are they totally going in a different direction, or is this another hint that Sam is more than he seems.

Now I have a question How did Sam wield the Hammer of Thor? Apparently in comic book canon only someone worthy can wield it.

“Someone worthy”? Um, just asking but who would be MORE worthy than the guy who knowingly sacrificed himself to lock Lucifer back in his cage and avert the Apocalypse, saving all of mankind? Kind of a tough act to improve upon, no? If God himself judged Sam worthy of Heaven despite drinking demon blood and aligning himself with a demon (Dark Side of the Moon) then I think we can safely call him “worthy” of wielding Thor’s hammer!
Oh and one last comment . . . ”2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?”
I think it is crucial to pay close attention to Cas’ face when Dean tells him that he won’t leave Purgatory without him.Cas has just explained to Dean that he firmly believes that the only way to prevent Dean from being killed by the Leviathans in Purgatory is to stay away from their intended target (Cas). When Dean stubbornly refuses to do that, I think Cas’ face clearly shows that he realizes that he is going to have to be the one to “leave” Dean once again. Therefore I believe what we saw in the short snippet at the very end of this episode was not Dean abandoning Cas but rather Cas forcefully breaking away from Dean in order to “save” his friend from what he believes will be his fate in Purgatory.
Percysowner, you made me laugh and spit my drink all over the monitor. Don’t be John Winchester, indeed. Too funny!
I loved the episode and like the way they are unraveling the threads slowly in revealing the past year, while slowly moving the brothers back together as they fight in the present. Will be fun to see when the 2 themes collide.
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
Yay!
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
Have no idea. I hope Dean didn’t desert Cas on purpose. I don’t think he would. He would blame himself anyway if something went wrong.
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
If it hadn’t been so desperate, it was fun. Loved Thor’s hammer and Sam whacking the creepy old guy. l hope Sam kept it.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
I probably would have, if I was Kevin. How can he trust the Winchesters after they left him high and dry for a whole year? Mom is more important to him as she should be.
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
Love to hate Crowley and Mark does him so well! He’s a great villain for the boys. Talk about mean! God, I hope it wasn’t Crowley! 😡
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
Reversing the Latin makes the demon go back into the meat suit. Sammy was busy this past year it seems. Much more so than he is telling Dean. Learning lots of new valuable stuff! Maybe in order to get Dean back? We will see. Sammy should have let the demon go and saved Eunice, unless she was too used up to save. But he wouldn’t know that, would he? He’s getting ruthless like Dean it seems. 😮
7. Who or what was Gray-suit? Besides just the auctioneer?
Got no clue who he really was. Will we ever know?
Another great episode. I can’t believe Dean would really kill Kevin’s mom to get Crowley. I hope not. He could have done it if he hadn’t hesitated a second. And I hope he didn’t deliberately lose Cas. If he had a choice of losing Cas or remaining forever in purgatory, maybe he would lose him. 😥
The reason Sam used the reverse latin was so that they could kill the demon – I think it was Dean who explained that if they had let it go as smoke (which would have happened with an exorcism too) that it would alert Crowley to their location. And at the end of this explanation, Kevin even nodded his head showing that he agreed with the boys. I think this may be why the boys have stopped trying to save the random meat suits because they have come to realize over the last few seasons that they have to stay off of Hell’s radar.
Of course, this explanation would have been better back two seasons ago when some of the fans were shaken up about how callous the boys had become. I hope Mr. Carver is sitting down and addressing all the major concerns that have alienated some of the fandom. If so, they are going to be subtle explanations throughout the shows since too much at one time would mean boring exposition.
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
Definitely a 9. I had some problems with it though. First, I would have thought PTSD Dean would have more trouble with Linda Tran going along than he did. Second, excuse me God of Greed, but Crowley does have a soul. That’s how demons possess people — and someone on the show should have caught that. Third, I thought the bidding items at the auction were over the top for humor’s sake. And gods in jogging pants? There’s some more Dabb & Loflin humor that I sometimes don’t appreciate.
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
No clue, but I want to know how Benny got so protective of Dean, so much so that he asked Cas for an explanation.
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
Yeah, I liked to auction okay. My favorite part was Dean being cold enough to let Linda Tran bargain her soul. My least favorite was that Dean didn’t stab her in the neck and take out Crowley when he had the opportunity. And I must say that I loved Alphie, especially when he was bidding the Mona Lisa. My very favorite part of the episode was the interrogation flashback with the real-time interrogation. Loved it.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
Kevin is a dumb ass. He was kidnapped by Crowley, held captive by him, had his mother under lock and key by him, had him possess his mother, watched him have his girlfriend possessed and then snapped her neck, and ignored Dean’s warning about his mother going along with him, as did his mother. Then he listens to Crowley, blames Dean for what happened, and bolts. Both Kevin and his mother are stupid and deserve NOT to be protected by the Winchesters.

5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
I always love Crowley, but I don’t find him intimidating as the big bad at all. Still, I’m glad he’s in the season and I hope Dean is the one to finally gank him. I don’t think much of Crowley poking at Kevin about his real father. I don’t think we’ll hear about it again.
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
Most fans are putting more stock into this than I am. I just think it was a cool thing they had Sam do. Of course, the point of it was so that demons could not escape and warn Crowley where Kevin was.
7. Who or what was Gray-suit? Besides just the auctioneer?
I believe Beau was the auctioneer and that Crowley got to him and made the bargain to get Kevin tied to the tablet. That’s where the second island came from.

Ginger – that’s an awesome way of putting it 🙂 That is what I thought initially too. Kevin can’t be stupid enough to believe Crowley’s words and blame Dean. But I kinda understand his need to run… after all he was all alone for a year while Sam ignored (or was ignorant of) his pleas for help and Dean did try (I say try cos he definitely hesitated and didn’t go for the kill when he could have) to slit soccer moms throat. So for Kevin it was an instict thing and he wasn’t thinking straight. But like u said, all this wouldnt have happened if he had listened to Dean in the 1st place and didnt go to see his mom or atleast didnt let her tag along with them.

Most fans are putting more stock into this than I am. I just think it was a cool thing they had Sam do. Of course, the point of it was so that demons could not escape and warn Crowley where Kevin was.
I agree. I dont think there’s more to it than meets the eye. He probably just thought out of the box and came up with the idea. I just dont want fans to up their expectation on this front and then feel let down later. At least that is what am doing. If its something more then I’ll be pleasantly surprised 🙂
His need to run, IMO, isn’t the point. He knows Crowley won’t quit looking for him, and he knows that if he gives the Winchesters the key to closing the Gates of hell, that they can put a stop to Crowley looking for him. Maybe he went to the angels, thinking they can save him. Good luck with that. We know how effective the angels are…all of the angels, including Cas.
It was a nice twist, though. It gets Kevin and his mother out of the backseat of the Impala and the plot can go on.
I’m just saying that in looking over the past seasons, every time a civilian doesn’t take Dean’s advice, and it is usually Dean who gives it, they end up, usually, dead, but not before they blame him for their own stupid mistakes.
It was a nice twist, though. It gets Kevin and his mother out of the backseat of the Impala and the plot can go on.
Exactly. Am happy abt that. I’m ok with Kevin & his mom in small doses. Definitely dont want them in the Impala all season.

U’re spot on in ur observation. And the worst part is that Dean ends up feeling guilty for what is clearly stupidity on their part. Hope thats not the case this season.
Agree with you on the last point. It irks me when people blame Dean for crap on their part. Kevin was stupid to have gone to see his mother, much worse take her along (against Dean’s advice). And then he actually ends up blaming him. Poor Dean… he can never catch a break.
I dont think Dean will be crushed by it or even care. I know Dean can never catch a break the whole of Sam’s life is that for Dean. But Kevin is a 17 yr old kid who was reacting to the moment not looking to rational thoughts.
I know what u mean. In an earlier post I already said I that I understood why Kevin would run away (Sam not responding for a year and Dean putting a knife to his mom’s throat would be enough) but what I dont like is him blaming Dean for it. These were essentially his own choices. If he is too young to make the right choices & therefore can’t be blamed then he should have listened to the older guys (in this case Dean) anyway. That is all am saying. Btw… am not sure why u brought Sam’s life into the picture. I dont recall saying Sam was having fun while Dean suffered. I think Sam has NEVER caught a break too but I didnt mention it becos we were discussing abt Dean. Hope that clarifies 🙂
Mrs. Tran did make the right choice in going with the Winchesters to the auction even though it ended up costing her. If she hadn’t gone, Kevin would now be in the hands of Crowley along with the tablet as his bid of the moon was clearly the front runner bid before Mama Tran offered up her soul. Kevin may have bolted, but Crowely still doesn’t know exactly what the tablet says and can’t do anything with it. And she may be traumatized, but Mrs. Tran still has her soul and she saved her son, which was her primary goal in going along in the first place.
6. I’m with you CJ. I certainly still hope there’s more to Sam than meets the eye, as percysowner said, but I think it’s just another nod by Carver to how smart Sam has always been (which has been ignored the last few seasons).
I’m not convinced there’s been anything more going on with Sam than a girl and a dog…. but will be really happy if I’m wrong here. Looking forward to the next episode, and more of a glimpse into Sam.
Although I don’t care for PTSD Dean, it is being really way played so far. And I’m sure Cas will be free of purgatory soon, with or without Deans help.
I hope you are not right, but I suspect you are. If Sam’s only story is a girl, a dog, and living the good life while Dean fought for his life in Purgatory, I will be very, very cross. But I think there is a good chance that the writers do think so little of Sam that his only story will be a girl and a dog.
But I think there is a good chance that the writers do thin so little of Sam that his only story will be a girl and a dog.
Well not necessarily. The story of Sam can (and mostly will) hold a lot of promise in the present where they are fighting to close the gates of hell. His past year is just that… the past. The current timeline will ensure both brothers play an active part and I think it will be an interesting sl for both brothers. I feel Sam’s story in the current will start around epi 5 (after he meets Benny). This is just my opinion, I dont have any inside info 🙂
I would be more confident of that if Sam’s story hasn’t always been scheduled to start after (insert season whatever storyline) and yet somehow they never get around to it. I know JC wasn’t in charge then, but most of the staff was and too often Sam’s storyline gets overshadowed or lost somewhere along the way.
Yeah, same old story. Dean’s story is deemed the most important and he gets the focus in every season opener. Then Bobby, Cas and now Benny get their turn. Then just maybe they’ll remember Sam and give us that obligatory single Samcentric ep.

1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
I’d give it maybe a 6.
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
I don’t think Dean deliberately abandoned Cas, but nor do I really think it was Cas sacrificing himself for Dean. I think the portal didn’t let angels through and Cas “let go” as Dean put it when Dean was trying to pull him through. I have a problem seeing how Benny was involved because of the being in Dean’s arm at the time thing; otherwise I’d imagine Dean hesitating and on the verge of staying with or going back for Cas and Benny yanking him on through. Maybe that could happen even with the arm thing.
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
Mostly I found the auction humor forced, and Sam and Dean seemed to be unrealistically stupid about it.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
Yes. He escaped Crowley on his own and survived just fine without the Winchesters for a year, and he knows that his priorities don’t line up with theirs in a crucial respect. I don’t think it’s that he trusts Crowley over Sam and Dean or something, but it’s perfectly reasonable for his view about what is an acceptable sacrifice for the cause to differ from Dean’s, and he is certainly right not to trust Dean not to carry through on Dean’s own principles.
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
I’m pretty bored of Crowley at this point. The moose jokes have gotten way old. And I’m of the camp who just wants Kevin’s father to please not be John. I doubt his father is Crowley, though; wouldn’t that make Kevin another Jesse the antichrist?
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
I don’t think it’s a hint of things to emerge in Sam’s backstory, if that’s what you mean. I think the inconsistency of having smart!Sam all over the place now when we are asked to accept that Sam was inexplicably clueless about Dean’s disappearance post 7.23 is just bad writing. It’s hardly the first time Sam and Dean’s intelligence has varied wildly to suit the needs of the plot. Yeah, I agree that realistically no one could pull off saying an incantation like that backwards if they hadn’t practiced it, but I think that’s the kind of realistic detail that gets handwaved in fiction, not a clue.
7. Who or what was Gray-suit? Besides just the auctioneer?
Well, the name Beau implies a man of fashion, and he’s associated with the god of wealth. I don’t think there’s any further deep significance.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
Yes. He escaped Crowley on his own and survived just fine without the Winchesters for a year, and he knows that his priorities don’t line up with theirs in a crucial respect.
I don’t quite understand what you mean here, but I think it was made quite clear to him that if the Gates of Hell are closed, both he and his mother would no longer be plagued with having demons hunt them and live on the run for the rest of their lives. If he doesn’t realize this, then he is dumber than he’s supposed to be.
Now, I can see Alfie having come to him and he took off with him. Kevin wasn’t, after all, in on the converstion Alfie had with Linda Tran. We know, along with the Winchesters, that angels are no different than Crowley and all other demons, but Kevin wouldn’t know that. Whatever his reason was for running from the Winchesters, I have a notion that he’ll be in a bigger mess than he is right now…and I would further say that I think he deserves it. Again, it was his mother’s own decision to ignore Dean’s advise and Kevin concurred with her. (He saw what the Levi wanted to do and were capable of.) Accountability for your own actions and all that — i.e., don’t blame Dean for your own stupid mistakes.
I agree. I understand Kevin being upset that Dean would kill his mother in order to kill Crowley, but the thing is, I don’t think Mrs Tran would have an issue with it. She had just sold her soul to protect her son. If her death would achieve the same outcome, I think she’d hold still and cheer Dean on. Also, Dean didn’t “let” Mrs Tran sell her soul. She did that herself, and while Kevin was crying “No”, Dean asked her if that’s really what she wanted. But it was her choice, and I think laying it at Dean’s feet is a mistake. There were others in the room who did nothing about it, and it wasn’t their fault, anymore than it was Dean’s.
Very valid points. Nicely put.
I’m with etheldred on this one. Kevin saw enough to realize that both Sam and Dean have their own objectives here and don’t really care about either him or his mother. If push comes to shove, they will sacrifice Kevin and his mom, and Kevin has to look out for his own interests. It would be nice to think that Kevin could trust that Sam and Dean could win against the King of Hell, but if you didn’t know their track record, would you be willing to take that gamble? As for Dean always being right, Kevin has no way of knowing that either. Besides, didn’t Sam and Dean lead Crowley right to Kevin in 8.1?
Yes, they did, because he had possessed the girlfriend and she alerted Crowley to that fact. Obviously, Crowley was actively seeking Kevin; possessing the girlfriend, Mrs. Tran surrounded by demons, and we don’t know if Crowley had someone watching Sam/Amelia or if that was the angels or, as some think, but I don’t, that it was Dean watching him. We’ll find that out eventually.
I can understand if Kevin went with the angels, but Sam and Dean’s objectives should be the same as Kevin’s, which is to get away from the demons, not release all the demons of Hell into the world; thus, getting him out of having any active part in being a prophet (which he doesn’t seem too keen on). This would also keep his mother safe. The alternative of always being on the run….and that is a losing game as he should well know by now…is the alternative.
But it all does come back to any distrust he has of Dean comes from his and his mother’s bad choice.

I see the distinction being that Sam and Dean’s primary objective (Dean’s especially with his current state of mind) is to succeed in closing the gates of hell and getting rid of the demons. Kevin and his mom’s safety would be a secondary objective. Kevin’s primary objective would be to get himself and his family out of harm’s way. His secondary objective would be to help Sam and Dean close the gates of Hell. Ideally both of these objectives would work together, but if they don’t, Kevin does not want to watch Dean or Sam sacrifice his mom.
I think there’s something else too that is weighing on Kevin’s decision, and that is that it wasn’t just that Dean was ready to kill him mom, but that Sam also deserted him when he needed him. Those two things would be pretty convincing evidence to Kevin that Sam and Dean don’t really care about him.
And there’s some truth to that – look at what happened to Adam. His fate wasn’t something Sam and Dean had wanted, but they haven’t really done a lot to try to help him out either.
I see your the reasoning in you distinction and if that is what Kevin is thinking, his reasoning is flawed. His mother is not safe and neither is he, and they will never be safe unless Crowley is killed or the Gates of Hell are closed.
See, I think Dean could have easily killed his mother if that was what he was going to do. There was nothing stopping him from cramming the knife up her throat like he did to the monster in Purgatory. But he hesitated. Why? I don’t know, but it could be that he wasn’t sure the knife would kill Crowley with his new super powers. It didn’t kill Alistair when Sam stabbed him with it, just like the Colt didn’t kill Lucifer when Dean shot him. then again, it may be just how the scene was edited or even written.
I do think Sam abandoning him is a valid point. I didn’t necessary see or hear anything from Kevin in that scene with Sam in the premiere that indicated Kevin forgave Sam or understood Sam’s reasoning. It was a pretty lame excuse, too.
The third point is, if you already sold your soul for a lifetime of hell and torture, wouldn’t you take a quick death instead. I most definitely would.
I also think we’re debating a moot point. The writers needed Kevin and Linda out of the backseat of the Impala for now and when Kevin shows up, there will be more to the story revealed. Right now, he doesn’t look like an Advanced Placement prophet or hunter to me.
As far as Adam — good riddance. I hope to never hear the name or see the character again. He’s another one that made his choices in spite of both brothers request for time and he did it for selfish reasons. He’s no better than Grandpa Samuel, as far as I’m concerned — not to mention I didn’t like messing up the brother dynamic, trashing John’s character, and passing off Dean’s story to a 2-shot character. Yuck.
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
I give it 6.
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
I don’t really care that much about Cas or Benny.
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
I like to see Sam’s expression when the old god betting on the 5/8 of virgin. I love Sam and Dean’s expression when Alfie fight a bet with Crowley. I don’t want to see too much of Crowley this season.
They seemed to forget that what made Azazel so scary was because we see too little of him. He worked behind the curtain yet his evil machinations wrecked havoc on the brother’s life. That’s how you write a good mystery. If they want to make Crowley as the big bad this season then they must hid him well, yet show us that he can still do evil to the world.
leviathans was not that scary because we saw too much of them.
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
He managed to stay safe for a year. I think Kevin heard what Dean said to Sam about not hesitating in killing his mother. That’s why he bolted. I have a mother, I understand Kevin’s fear.
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
I don’t think the ‘daddy’ here will be important. But let’s see.
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
If what happen to Sam for the past year was nothing more that a girl, a dog and picket fences then it’ll be boring. I don’t want to see anymore of his flashback. I’ve seen enough. What’s the purpose of showing me any more flashbacks if the content will be the same.
Season 6 Dean only have one flashback and that’s enough for me to understand that Dean had lived a normal life for a year.
I know that Sam is smart and all that but ever since the episode 1, Sam was written OOC and his countenance his facial expression was off. Jared is a good actor and I believe he is still good at what he does. So, for the sake of his career, I hope there’s more to Sam’s story than just ‘living a normal life’ that would explain his ooc behavior.
1. I give this episode a nine out of ten. How about you, yay or nay?
YAY! It was indeed, awesome!
2. What do you think happened in Purgatory with Cas, Dean and Benny?
Wow! So many possibilities (and, really, this has to be the best part about this storyline. Speculating is always fun). I guess that there’s always the possibility that Cas intentionally let go in order to save Dean or something like that. Or, Dean could have legit let Cas go in order to save his own hide.
HOWEVER, this is my theory (however unlikely it may seem): What if that scene we saw at the end, wasn’t Dean and Benny leaving Purgatory, but Cas leaving Purgatory? What if they found a portal for him, but Cas didn’t wanna leave Dean there? And maybe, that was Cas standing outside of Amelia’s house as Sam drove away to meet Dean. I know this theory has a lot of holes in it, but hey…
3. What was your favorite part of the auction, or didn’t you like it at all?
My favourite part of the auction was…Crowley. And Dean when he was like “This isn’t the men’s room.” (I don’t know if that counts).
4. Did you think Kevin was right to take his mother and flee?
Maybe he was entitlted, but looking at the bigger picture, it was a really stupid move.
5. How did you like Crowley in this ep? What did you think about his teasing Kevin about who his daddy is? Could it be Crowley himself?
Crowley’s snark was part of what made this episode for me. Haven’t really thought about the whole “daddy” thing.
6. I didn’t understand what happened with the reverse Latin thing Sam did with Mama’s neighbor. Can someone explain it to me, please.
Sam said the exorcism spell backwards in order to “stuff” the demon back into it’s meatsuit. I suppose it could be hinting towards Sam’s activities during his ‘lost months’, but I think it has more to do with Amelia than with Dean. After all, we still have to purge into Amelia’s past, her personal tragedy and how she and Sam helped each other through their griefs. Does Amelia know about Sam’s (previous) life as a hunter? ‘Cause if she does, I would think that a lot of time would be spent on her reaction, too.
OR, Sam saying the spell backwards could just be a nod to the future. I could definately picture a scene where Dean would (hilariously) be trying to say the spell backwards like Sam did…but we all know Dean isn’t as good in Latin as Sam is.
