Major Recurring Casting Spoiler, Supernatural Season 8
When I interviewed Jensen at Comic-Con on Sunday, he said this about a recurring monster that would be new to the show. “There’s going to be a character that gets Dean out. Because “I need you and you need me. Separated we can’t get out but together we can get out.” Obviously that character, he doesn’t go away right away and Dean is indebted to him and of course he’s not a good guy. That is a character that gets introduced in the first episode.”
Jensen wouldn't give the name, but now Michael Ausiello has spilled the beans. It is Battlestar Galactica Alum Ty Olsson. According to TV Line, Olsson "will play Benny, a dark and dangerous vampire who helps Dean escape from purgatory."
Here's the imdb page of Olsson just in case you're having a case of "Who?" or "Hey, It's That Guy!" Looks like the guy has gotten around.

I remember this actor from The Beresford Agenda on Dark Angel. That episode was very heavy about the character
Alec that Jensen played in that series. Also he was the vampire bartender in Bloodlust in Supernatural-so it would make sense that he is a vampire in Purgatory. Good actor.
I wonder if he’s playing Eli again. That’s was his vampire character in S2 of Supernatural. He was one of Lenore’s “family”. Remember Lenore told the boys that most of her “family” had started feeding again when Eve was walking around in S6. It would make sense that he would be dead and in Purgatory.

since he played the vampire Eli, it seems strange that they’ve changed his name to Benny… why not just leave it Eli?
I think “Benny” is a ruse for “Eli.” I had hoped that Benny/Eli would be in Dean’s head and we would get a psychological look at Dean. It’s looking more like that won’t be the case.
Ginger-did you mean you hoped that Benny/Eli was a hallucination in Dean’s head?
I don’t think Dean will go through a psychological look into his mind very easily-he’s a poo-poo to therapy kind of guy, stoical and not wanting to open himself up much. Maybe in the flashbacks Jeremy Carver hinted at, they will explore that aspect.
I wonder if Dean uses the name Benny for Eli to fool Sam into not knowing who helped him out of Purgatory-Benny is supposed to be an occasional part of the season, not in every episode.
