Jensen Ackles Cancels His Paris Con Appearance
Danneel Ackles got to play official spokesperson for her husband this morning and issued a statement through her twitter on behalf of Jensen regarding his upcoming scheduled appearance at the Supernatural: The Apocalypse convention in Paris:
Due to differences in opinions and standards as to how how the upcoming Paris convention would run, I was forced to make an extremely difficult decision today and will not be attending as planned. I deeply regret the inconvenience to the people I respect and appreciate the most – our fans – and I wanted you to hear the news from me first. I had hoped for a different outcome, but this was unavoidable given the logistics of the weekend. I have returned ALL of the money to the organizers of the event and I hope they will give you the refunds you are due.
I hope that I will have the chance to make things up to you at a future event. In 2013, I will be appearing at Creation Events in Las Vegas, New Jersey, Dallas, Chicago and Vancouver, and Jus in Bello Rome.
Thank you all for the strength of your support and for the continued success of Supernatural. I look forward to seeing you very soon.
Sincerely, Jensen Ackles
Jared Padalecki recently cancelled his scheduled appearance as well, giving this statement on his Twitter:
@jarpad: Bad news yall, the Paris Con can’t bring me over this year :(. I’m sad that I won’t meet our French fans. Hopefully it can happen in 2013
Since Jensen’s announcement, Richard Speight Jr. and Mark Sheppard have been added to the convention roster.

Alice Jester is the founder, editor-in-chief, head writer, programmer, web designer, site administrator, marketer, and moderator for The Winchester Family Business. She is a 30 year IT applications and database expert with a penchant for creative and freelance writing in her spare (ha!!) time. That’s on top of being a wife, mother of two active kids, and four loving (aka needy) pets.
Any idea what difficulties caused Jensen (and Jared) to cancel the Paris con?
I don’t have specifics, and due to legal issues the boys aren’t allowed to say, but this sounds like from what I’ve seen with past cons the con organizers are not meeting their end of the contract. It’s very likely they couldn’t come up with the upfront payment that’s usually due right before the con, but it could also be other things. I’m wondering if someone tried to change the terms of the deal last minute.
This is just me speculating, but they replaced Jared and Jensen with two guests whose fees aren’t anywhere near as large, so something tells me money was an issue.
It appears to me to be a lack of guests. Besides Jensen, there was only Sebastian and Jason appearing as of this morning. However, I just checked and there seems to be more names listed now. Still, not nearly the volume or high profile guests of other cons from what I’ve seen. The date of this con being so close to the one in Australia always struck me as being odd. No time for anyone to regroup prior to it.
I wondered if it was money also but in Daneels (for Jensen) tweet he said he returned all the money and yet Jared’s tweet says the con can’t bring him over this year.
In a way, I think it is good. Jared has a new baby and Jensen is directing again, so they both could use the extra time for family/friends/relaxation. They seem to give their all to the show and they are always appreciative of the fans-so I say next year in Paris will be fine.
Hi Alice! Do you have an idea if Jensen and Jared will be attending the convention in UK in 2013?
Neither Jensen or Jared are lined up to come to the UK in 2013, wont bother buying tickets if neither of the main characters are there.
