“Time After Time” Shows 57% in DVR Gains
Supernatural continues to be a top, and very consistent performer, in the Live+7 DVR ratings. ”Time After Time” rose from a .7 demo rating in 18-49 to a 1.1 rating with DVR +7 factored in. Last week, “Adventures in Babysitting” rose from a .8 to a 1.2. The info can be found at TV By The Numbers.
Supernatural has consistently each week been delivering either a 1.1 or 1.2 in DVR. That’s among the best DVR performances for CW shows, except of course The Vampire Diaries which is blowing everyone out of the water. It should be noted that the other genre shows in Supernatural’s time slot, Grimm and Fringe, also were top performers in demo gains for Live+7. Fridays seem to be the most popular in that regard. Grimm especially did very well, showing an 86% bump in audiences, from a 1.4 to a 2.6. That’s very damned good for a Friday show. Fringe rose from a pathetic 1.1 to an acceptable 1.9, although there is very much doubt that it’s enough for a high standard network like Fox.
Just cause I’m in an opinion spouting mood, I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Supernatural won’t be facing a lot of intense competition on Fridays next year. NBC is dying in the hit show department, and that DVR rating puts Grimm as one of their top rated shows. No way they’d be crazy enough to keep that show on a Friday when their other nights are falling like a sack of wet cement. As for Fringe, the picture isn’t as rosy. Renewal for them is very questionable, but I think they’ll pull what Chuck did and get a final 13 episode order so that Warner Brothers has a stronger syndication package.
For those who have not read my earlier statements, Supernatural season 8 is extremely likely. Jared and Jensen are signed for season 8 and honestly, The CW has enough holes to fill.
So there’s my two cents! We’ll see if the new episode on Friday keeps up the trend.
Alice, you’re right for a show on the CW and being on the Friday night schedule, those numbers aren’t bad. It would be great if they were higher, but they’ve got a lot against them in that regard. Lack of outside network advertising or any real advertising, yucky night and the way that their network is viewed as in the first place. Anyway, so many people now watch their shows by other means such as the internet, iPhone apps, etc. Nielsen really is behind the times.
Now that Chuck is done as well as Extreme Makeover Home Edition and if Grimm does get moved to another night that would make things potentially much better for Supernatural next season especially if Fringe does not get renewed since genre fans were being split having all of the same genre shows on the same night thus contributing to the higher DVR numbers but then you can only DVR 1 show. If Fringe does get their farewell season then both Supernatural and Fringe may still fare better and maintain a bump in the DVR viewers as well.
