Supernatural Preview: Episode 7.11 – “Adventures In Babysitting”

Yahoo!…Jump Up and Down and CHEER!!! “Supernatural” returns this Friday and from the looks of the promo photos, the boys find themselves some nasty vampires to deal with and vamps are always FUN.  
 
The trailer shown after “Death’s Door” was a mixture of a number of episodes for the second half of the season, but did show scenes of Sam and vamps in a tussle.  The promo from the Canadian Channel CHCH also shows some of the same scenes and unfortunately, Sam didn’t fare to well. 

 
As for the burning question everyone has been asking all hellatus – What about Bobby?  The fate of the boy’s adopted father is a very closely guarded secret. Most people are convinced that Bobby is officially dead.  And while some people are very upset about that, there is a fraction of viewers who either don’t care one way or the other, or who feel Bobby has out lived his usefulness on the series years ago.  
 
For me, I will be upset if he has been killed off.  Bobby is a favorite character of mine and, true, no one who dies on “Supernatural” is really dead. But there has just been too many fan-fav characters killed off, and that has lost its appeal for, and effect on, fans as much as another brother death would€¦.just been done too many times.
 
It would also be out of character for Bobby to give up to the reaper. Bobby is a survivor and his character is the only one the series has stayed true to over the years, so I’m going to hope Bobby is in a coma for now and will return before the end of the season.  Who knows, maybe when Cass returns he cures Bobby, he certainly can, and also Crowley has the ability to restore Bobby and the King is still very much in the picture, especially now the Dean is so obsessed with the death of Dick Roman, something Crowley would like nothing better to see.
 
As for Jim Beaver’s reaction to “Death’s Door”, he talked on the WinchesterBros podcast just after the last episode, and while he wouldn’t give anything away, I got the impression Bobby is not out of the picture just yet.  So I’m keeping my fingers crossed.  However in the short term, Mr. Beaver will be a guest star on another favorite series of mine, “Justified.”  He will be in the second half of their new season, so I’ll be checking him out there for now, and there is still plenty of time for him to shoot more episodes of “Supernatural” this season.
 
As for this episode, we told that Dean is very angry over what has happened to Bobby and we all know how Dean feels about family.  That only amplifies the anguish he already feels with the loss of Castiel, the boys adopted home, Bobby’s salvage yard, and his precious Baby, an anger fans share.  That makes Dean obsessed at taking down Dick Roman at all costs, something I TOTALLY agree with BTW.   
 
For whatever reason, Dean and Sam split up and work on separate issues.  Based on the sneak peak promo CW released, Dean enlists the help of Frank Deveraux (guest star Kevin R. McNally), the quirky surveillance expert we first met in “Slash Fiction.” 
 
 
The promo opens with Dean finishing up a phone conversation, when Frank tells him he has the equipment arranged and Dean needs to get his costume on so they can scoot.  That takes Dean by surprise, but it’s only one of many.  

The costume turns out to be a telephone linemen’s uniform…
 

… and Dean’s second surprise comes when Frank tells him to work the bucket on the cherry picker. Dean asks why he has to ride in it and Frank is quick to point out that Frank’s uniform says manager and Dean’s says technician.  
 
So up in the bucket he goes… 
 
 
…and when he reaches the top, Frank tells him to come back down again.  Dean’s reply, “WHAT!”  Yea, surprise number three.  
 
Seems during Dean’s ride, Frank did a little surveillance of his own and spotted a number of cameras already spying on the area.
 
 
Dean wants to know how they can set up a spy network if one already exists.  Frank answer, they can’t, but they can tap into the one already there.  Guess you call that plan B.
 
So who is Dean trying to spy on?  Can only be Dick Roman and his unworldly leviathans. Unfortunately, the leviathans already have a lot of cameras covering the area so here’s hoping the new plan works.  However, the fun part of the promo is seeing Dean in a cherry picker riding up and down in the bucket. Wonder how long it took Ackles to get that right.  
 
Meanwhile, Sam has decided to help a teenager girl (played by Madison Mclaughlin) find her father (played by Ian Tracey), a hunter who has gone missing. Her father was last seen at a truck stop, so Sam decides to start his solo investigation there.  Why the boys separate again is not known but when they are by themselves, things never go well, and this episode is no exception.
 
At the truck stop Sam runs into a waitress, Sally (played by Meghan Ory), who is not at all what she seems.  
 

 
According to an few interviews Meghan Ory did, Sally is a “working girl” who has quite a scare and turns to Sam for help. Of Sally’s character Ory said, “Life’s hard when you’re turning tricks,” she explained. “Plus, there’s some stuff going down at the place that she works, and she has nowhere to turn except to Sam.” She continues, “Sally works out of a truck stop. She’s a good girl who’s doing everything she can to survive, and Sam is there to help her do that. He’s in the right place at the right time.”  Hmmmm, given the promo photos for the episode, Sally doesn’t seem to be too good a girl at all.
 
In fact she and her female friend seem to think both Sam and the missing hunter are more of a dinner treat than a helping hand.
 
 
Not that Sam approves of course.
 
 
And these are vamps with a twist, they have really cool cat eyes.  
 
 
In other words, Sam comes across some nasty vampires and ends up their prisoner right along side the missing hunter.  
 
 
Uh oh, another family member of Dean’s in trouble.  He has got to be one unhappy camper in this episode!  
 
Vamps with cat eyes are unusual to say the least.  Maybe they are hybrid leviathans!  Dick Roman does show up in this episode at some point and while I’m not too thrilled about seeing Dick again, except maybe with his head on a platter, I’m all for seeing Dean become “dangerously hot” and whacking any and all leviathans and monsters they may have created.  The more the blood and gore the better!  (Yeah, I’m glad the hiatus is over!)
 
Naturally Dean goes after his bro, but not without the teenage daughter who gets Dean to agree to take her at gun point.  I’m thinking this is where the title comes in.  It’s Dean’s adventure in ‘babysitting’ a hunter’s daughter.  Got to admit it, does have potential. 
 
 
But yeah, a fourteen year old gets the drop on Dean. Much to his surprise!
 

Sam will never let Dean live that down, assuming Dean tells him of course.  I think this episode is going to have a comic tendency to it too, and after the emotional turn of “Death’s Door,” fans can use a bit of levity to kick off the second half of the season.
 
Ah…but not too much levity as the discussions in the car on the way to Sam and her father take on a serious nature.  She states she feels that Sam and her father may be dead already and when Dean objects, we hear her say, “People die, Dean.”  NOT something Dean needs to hear right now.
 
 
And find Sam and her father they do and yep, we get to see Dean in action but not until after the monsters have captures the daughter I’m afraid.
 
 
Who wins here?  Dean of course…and then he takes a 2×4 to Sally.

 
…leaving quite a lump on her head it looks like.
 
 
But she manages to get away it appears and back to the captives.  After all, exactly how much damage can a 2×4 do to a vamp, if that is what they are?
 
 
As for how this ends, we have to wait for Friday to find out but I would LOVE to see McLaughlin and Tracey’s characters survive the episode.  The brothers could use some new hunter allies and the show might shy away from killing a child or making an orphan of her which is the course they chose with Lisa and Ben.
 
The condition of Bobby, not with standing, the prospect of vampires, a trapped Sam and a VERY angry Dean will make for a very interesting episode.    As one article put it, “This [episode] promises to be both action-packed and dangerously hot.  There’s nothing more attractive than a very focused Dean.”  Amen to that! Throw in Frank Deveraux and a ‘smart as a whip’ fourteen year old and you can add a little comedy to the mix, something we can all use in abundance!

Jeannot Szwarc directed the episode.  He is a veteran in the profession with seventy directing credits in TV series’ such as “Bones,” “Fringe,” “Smallville,” and  “Grey’s Anatomy” to name a few.  He has also directed one other “Supernatural” episode “Mannequin 3: The Reckoning” which I have to say was not one of my favorites.  
 
The episode was authored by Adam Glass who started writing for the series in 2010 with “Two and a Half Men.” He has penned four other Supernatural episodes since then, “Defending Your Life,” “Mommy Dearest,” “Like a Virgin,” and “All Dogs Go to Heaven.”

Well, she found out when the cast and crew surprised her with a cake and a rendition of “Happy Birthday” during the filming of “Adventures in Babysitting.”
 
Her comments,” it’s pretty dang wonderful, I’ll tell ya that 😉 Jensen and I were getting ready to shoot a scene, and they surprised me with this…I love this set :)”
