20 Songs Santa Should Bring to “Supernatural”
We’ve all bemoaned the fact that “Supernatural’s” music budget has been slashed, but Santa doesn’t care about budgets!! He could definitely bring the show some kickass music, don’t you think?
In no particular order…
“More Than A Feeling” by Boston
I love this song. Every time I hear it, I want to sing along at the top of my lungs, singing ability be damned.
“Heroes” by David Bowie
Maybe this is a little on the nose, but I don’t care. Sam and Dean are heroes, damn it. Even Bobby said so!
“Ramble On” by Led Zeppelin
I think this choice is pretty self-explanatory. This song just kicks ass.
“Friends” by Led Zeppelin
This is kind of a lesser-known Zeppelin song, but it’s one of my favorites. The music is hypnotic and haunting, but the lyrics are surprisingly upbeat.
“Paint It Black” by The Rolling Stones
This song has a really great driving rhythm ans has long been one of my favorite Stones songs.
“Barracuda” by Heart
This song just kicks ass. Plus, we need some female presence in this very male-dominated classic rock genre. But mostly this song just kicks ass.
“Dream On” by Aerosmith
This is, hands down, the best Aerosmith song ever. Ever!
“Aqualung” by Jethro Tull
Here’s another song I just love. It has a killer guitar riff. And, really, who doesn’t love some flute with their classic rock?
“Fortunate Son” by Credence Clearwater Revival
Sam and Dean may be wayward sons, but they certainly aren’t fortunate sons.
“Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd
My favorite Pink Floyd song. Presumably, they will use the song only and not the laser light show.
Also in no particular order, except the first one. That’s been number one on my list for some time.
Yeah, it’s borderline “classic” rock, but this is one of those songs where Bon Jovi definitely rocks “on occasion.” I’m sure both brothers can relate to, “Shot down, in a blaze of glory!”
“Take The Long Way Home” by Supertramp
For this lyric alone: “Do you feel that your life has become a catastrophe? Oh it has to be, for you to grow, boy.”
“Highway Star” by Deep Purple
Can’t you imagine Dean motoring the Impala at 100+ mph in a drastic fashion while this song blares on the radio? Especially the middle keyboard solo?
“The Rain Song” by Led Zeppelin
Only the most beautiful and poignant lyrics ever written. Sure it’s a little mellow, but man would it be perfect for a tragic scene.
“My My, Hey Hey” by Neil Young
I know, another moody one, but isn’t this lyric the Dean Winchester anthem? “It’s better to burn out, than to fade away.”
“Moving In Stereo” by The Cars
I can just picture of montage of Sam and Dean during this. All those forlorned looks of despair and angst.
“Life’s the same, I’m moving in stereo, life’s the same except for my shoes, life’s the same you’re shakin’ like tremolo, life’s the same, it’s all inside of you…It’s so easy to blow up your problems, it’s so easy to pay up your breakdown, it’s so easy to fly through a window, it’s so easy to fool with the sound…It’s so tough to get up, it’s so tough, it’s so tough to live up, it’s so tough on you.”
“Life in the Fast Lane” by The Eagles
The title kind of says it all, doesn’t it?
“Gimmie Shelter” by The Rolling Stones
Can’t you picture Sam and Dean going off to some battle in dramatic fashion to this song? My favorite Stones tune from my favorite Stones album.
“The Famous Final Scene” by Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band
I’ve made no secret about this one in articles before, especially after the season six opener. It would be so perfect for this show. So sad and would definitely get some fan water works going.
“Love, Reign O’er Me” by The Who
A brotherly anthem for sure, especially when Roger Daltrey belts out the title during the chorus. So desperate, so angsty, so perfect.
Okay, your turn everyone. What’s your list?
Voodoo Child – the Stevie Ray Vaughn version – perfect for chasing down some hoodoo in New Orleans! Got to be some mojo there for Bobby!
I do like/love “blaze of glory” by Bon Jovi
I am thinking “I need a Hero” from original Footloose
I am a major Guns N Roses fan, so “welcome to the Jungle” have to be on my list. Maybe “Paradise City” and “Live and Let Die”
Maybe “dude look like a Lady” by Aerosmith
“18 and a Life” by Skid Row
“Im coming Home” by Ozzy Osbourne
“Doctor Feel Good” by Montley Crue for the many bikini inspectors that boys go undercover for.
And last but not the least …. “Pour some Sugar on Me” by Def Leopard
all classic Heavy Metal 80’s
8) nice way to go with the guns ‘n roses ones & def leopard
Of those already mentioned, I put at the top of my list: Gimme Shelter, Dream On, Life in the Fast Lane, and Comfortably Numb.
In addition:
“Wish You Were Here” – Pink Floyd
One of the most beautiful acoustic rock songs ever, and the lyrics fit the show perfectly
“Adam Raised a Cain,” “Badlands,” or “Thunder Road” – Bruce Springsteen
something, anything, by John Cougar Mellencamp
moar Rush please!
GNR,KISS,MOTLEY CREW,CCR,ZZ TOP,HOW ABOUT SOME MOLLY HATCHET AND LYNYRD SKYNYRD
I am from India and i have not heard any..i am not sure. but now i am going to go to youtube and hear to these.I don’t know whether it will fit but at present i am hearing mind without fear by imogen heap and vishal and apocalyptica angel
The apocalyptica one was used in buffy it seems..
1. I do agree with Dream On by Aerosmith.
2. I’d also like to hear a Gary Moore song. I don’t think it’d be too hard to throw in a bluesy song for, say, a bar scene.
3. We all know about Dean’s love of Led Zepp. For that reason, I’d like to see a scene where Dean and Sam walk into a bar to a LZ song playing (not fussy on which song), and to see Dean smirk and either smile or lipsync a line.
4. The only other I can think of at the moment is one I have mentioned on this site before: Foreigner’s At War With The World. It’s fitting and rocky.
At war with the world, awesome choice
I’m loving Ardeospina’s list, especially “Ramble On”. My greatest hope is that when the series finale rolls around (hopefully a long, long time from now), they’ll splurge and include a Zeppelin song. It would make me really happy.
A few suggestions of my own:
1. “Light of Day” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts – Because I totally agree that we need some more rocking girls up in here (even if Springsteen actually wrote the song)
2. “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding – One of the world-weariest songs ever.
3. “Diamond Dogs” by David Bowie – This strikes me as a very Crowley sort of song :).
4. “Wild Horses” by The Stones – Yes, it’s technically a love song, but I think it also really speaks to the way Sam and Dean can’t ever really take themselves out of the fight, no matter how much they think they want to.
5. “I Wanna Be Sedated” by The Ramones – I just think it would be funny
Oh, and also, “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix.
I’d love to hear “the passenger” by iggy pop. It’s a personal favorite and I think the tone and feel would be perfect. Also “its a mans mans man’s world” by MC5. Again the tone is outstanding.
I know these aren’t oldies but I think the my chemical romances “the black parade” would be great in the show and to me “so cold” by breaking Benjamin feels practically written for the show. To me that song while not classic rock encompasses everything the brothers have gone through.
oh boy, of favorite SPN subject of all! Alice, you had me at “Blaze of Glory” & on the way down ur list i was just nodding along with a wide smile! Highway Star, My My, Hey Hey, Moving In Stereo 2 thumbs up @ The Famous Final Scene!
here are some thriller scary themed SPN songs ive been thinking of:
“Ghosts” & “Is It Scary” by Michael Jackson (rock tunes) & this one I just heard last night & was like Awww! Yes!
Jakob Dylan – Evil Is Alive & Well
Well, each of you hit one of the ones on my list, “Ramble On” and “Blaze of Glory” (which does rock).
I love redheadedali’s suggestion of “Light of Day” and must second that.
I’ve said some of these before but I would like to hear one or two of these:
“Midnight” by William Elliot Whitmore
“All Apologies” by Nirvana
“Fear No Evil” by Grim Reaper
“Traveling Riverside Blues” by Led Zeppelin
“When the Levy Breaks” by Led Zeppelin
“Midnight Rambler” by The Rolling Stones
“The Razor’s Edge” by AC/DC
Some version of “Helter Skelter”
Also, I know the Beatles are definitely not Dean’s type of rock, but if they were to have just one song from them, “Blackbird”, it would be good for some sad, quiet moment.
Well, I know its really recent but I like Daughtry’s Renegade (not a remake, original song)
and almost any Breaking Benjamin song works including Dance With The Devil and I Will Not Bow.
I would also love to see Bryan Adams’ In The Heat of The Night.
I also like Van Halen’s Poundcake, Linkin Park’s Crawling and/or Numb and finally Eagles’ Desperado
Its eclectic but these are my picks!

Excellent as well as everyone elses! I believe there was a fan made SPN montage floating around you tube with BB’s dance with the devil. Its true that any of their songs would work.
Another song id love to see in the show is “this calling” by all that remains. Quite heavy but I think it would be great. Maybe modern rock songs would be more affordable for the show.
Hi Ladies,
Merry Christmas & Happy Boxing Day!
I’m loving all these choices. I second all of Alice & Ardeospina’s picks. And if I’d been quicker I would have also chosen Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” and “All Along the Watchtower”, the classic Jimi Hendrix.
Sadly, I was pre-occupied with shortbread, and turkey innards, so I’m only getting my picks in now. But, here they go…
1. Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell”.. It’s an appropriate bit of advice I think.
2. Van Halen & “Jump.. I know it’s oddly upbeat for Supernatural, but it is just so damn fun. They could easily use it in a goofy, light-hearted episode. Or, another flashback episode to the Weechester years!
3. Bob Dylan & The Band “I Shall Be Released”… It’s a beautiful, mournful, haunting song. I can see Dean listening to it (or thinking these sentiments) as he drives around in the Impala, trying to come to grips with what happened to Bobby. (I still believe Bobby will somehow be fine. Christmas does that to me.)
4. The Band + The Staple Singers and “The Weight”.. See notation for #3. This song has it all. Rock, roll, blues and so much soul.
5. Led Zeppelin and “Stairway to Heaven”. Need I say more? It could be a whole episode plot line!
6. The Guess Who and “No Time” or “American Woman”. They rock!
And although they’re not old, old rockers I’d pick something from the Tragically Hip as well. (One of the best Canadian rock bands ever, but most people outside the country have never heard of them. They’re awesome) I’d pick “Blow at High Dough” or “50 Mission Cap”.
That was fun!
Thanks & Happy New Year!
Pragmatic Dreamer 8)
I know it’s not rock but being the season it is – “Mary, did you know?” Reba sings a good version of it – I heard the song two years ago and immediately “Winchester”ed it. I can not hear that song now without thinking about Supernatural.
Carry on my way ward son
Dust in the wind
Hells bells
FOrchinant. /son
Dance with the devil
O death
It’s funny that you bring song choice up. I had a dream that I won a ton of money and I paid for SPN to buy any rock song they wanted on the show to thank them for the many years of enjoyment! Oh the brain does some weird things sometimes.
Anyway, here goes: Hell’s Bells, ACDC, for obvious reasons; Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits, such a beautiful song, just check out this sample:
“Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I’ve witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms”. Dean and Sam have always been soldiers fighting the good fight. I wouldn’t mind hearing Radar Love my Golden Earring. And I’ve always thought Blaze of Glory would be an awesome song choice. And let’s not forget, anything by Led Zeppelin would make my millenium.
Gee, thanks Alice, that was fun.
I really really would love to hear Elton John’s Where to Now St Peter. Its very haunting and amazing, and I always think of Supernatural when I hear it.
love the who reign on me love it but P- jam one is awesome.
