Sam Winchester – A Video Anthology

 
So, here as promised is the anthology of Sam clips! 

I confess my collection of videos for the younger Winchester was not as extensive so I have recently been on a search for clips. I must apologise now as although I have found many, most are very sad and moving,  I have also found a few shallow ones  but remembering the reaction to the `workout scene` at the beginning of `The Third Man` I am guessing there will be few objections to me including  a couple of these here too.  
 
This first video is a very recent find. I have always been a big Springsteen Fan, especially of his early work.  I cannot believe I never thought of this track before in relation to Sam as it is so perfect. This is indeed one of the more heartbreaking ones on the list, the vidder is Reely and they use the track `Streets of Philadelphia`, the video is called `Unrecognizable to Myself.’

It will come as no surprise that I am going to include a Mumford and Sons track. I think after Loki`s wonderful `I gave you all` this is the best use of their music in relation to Supernatural. Their track `Little Lion Man` works so well with Sam`s story, in fact I always think of it as `The Sam Song`. There are a few videos using this track but this one by BurntOutYesterdays is still my favourite.

Talking about Loki, here is the first of 2 of her videos I want to include, as always her editing is stunning. She has set this clip to a lovely piece of music called `Lost Song` by Olafur Arnalds .  She has entitled the video `I Promise’.

I did say there would have to be some shallowness included to relieve all this angst and I think this one qualifies.  The video is made by debstersky and if nothing else it is a good sing-a-long version of  `Can`t take me eyes off you`  by Morten Harket, the clip is called `You`re just too good to be true, Sam Winchester!!!`

This was one of the first `Sam` clips I ever saw and it is still one of my favourites. It uses images from the first 4 seasons but predominantly early pictures. There is no doubt both Winchesters have changed greatly since we first met them, when I hear the title of this clip I always want to add – `He still is!!!`.  The video was made by nikkisg1 and uses a beautiful song by Keane `He used to be a lovely boy`.

This next clip is a new find but I am so glad I discovered it! The vidder is 1semar and it features a track by `Poets of the Fall`. I only became familiar with their work through SPN videos on You Tube and they will feature in future collections I am sure. One of their tracks, `Where do we draw the line`, has been used a few times, I also love one I discovered recently called `Given and denied`. This track is called `War` and in their description of their work they say it is about Souless Sams` memories of his life with his brother. I just think these lyrics are so well suited to our show –

With the next track I intend to break one of my own rules and use more than one video to illustrate it. It is Skillets `The thirst is taking over`, a great track and one very suitable for Sam`s journey. The first example uses just part of the song but the editing is so good I could not bring myself to omit it, it is by CamCazzy and is called `The Thirst’.

The only fault with this next video is that it is far too short! It`s another very recent one using images from `The Man Who Knew Too Much` and is a moving tribute to the brothers dedication to each other. The lyric of the track `I Will Be` by Stanfour is perfect for this episode.

All non UK residents might need subtitles for this one! It features a track called `Mardy Bum` by The Arctic Monkeys, a band from a few miles away from where I live (actually some people outside Yorkshire might need subtitles too) . The video is really a tribute to the `Mighty Bitchface` although there are quite a few of the various patented `Winchester Faces` included. `It is called `Ode to a Bitchface`,  it`s by monkiedude. I think this is hilarious, I just love Dean`s expression `I`m in trouble again, aren`t I`? How many times have we seen that face.

Another short clip but, a powerful one, featuring beautiful images set to a beautiful song, `Human` by Civil Twilight the vidder is thewinchestergospel.

This video is a tribute to Jared`s tour de force, `When the levee breaks. It`s a really moving one featuring a great track by Snow Patrol `What if the storm ends` it is another video by Reely and probably warrants a tissue warning.

With this one I am again breaking my own rules. For the first minute of this clip it has words in the middle of the screen, BUT I just love this version of this song and video so much I wanted to include it in the anthology. The song is Johnny Cash`s `Ring Of Fire`, which until I heard this, I never actually liked, this version is by Adam Lambert. The clip is edited by nat11223344 and the clip is called `Sam Winchesterbloodlust.’

These next couple of clips feature Season Four Sam. 

The first one demonstrates his frustration and reluctance to return to the role of `little brother` on Dean`s return from Hell.  It was created by littlecountrygirl1003 using a track by 3 Doors Down called `Let me be Myself`, maybe in hindsight this was not such a good idea!!!

I was a huge ER fan and this video features a track by Scott Grimes who played Dr. Archie Morris. I love this song. It fits both Winchester Brothers so well. There is another video using it,  well worth checking out, which is about both of them but this version by MlleSnOb concentrates on Sam, the song is called `Young and Wise` and the title of the clip is `Don`t forget who you are`.

To borrow a phrase from a well known TV ad, this one `does what it says on the tin`. It is called Sam`s Story` and uses images from all seasons though mainly focusing on the later ones to illustrate Sam`s   journey. It`s a new song and band for me too, `Don`t fight it ` by The Panics, the vidder is CharliMill.

This is the second video by Loki in this collection and once again, like her others, it is just beautiful. It is called `Voices on the wind` and uses  music by the same musician as in the previous video, Olafur Arnalds, this piece is entitled `Raein`. Her editing is amazing.

I am including this one under duress against my better judgement,  but I did promise some gratuitous shallowness, think this qualifies! It`s a video called `If you seek Sammy` made by pearvodka using the track `If You Seek Amy` by Britany Spears, (I cannot believe I just typed that!!  I need to pray to the Gods of Rock for forgiveness) Anyway I hope all you Sam Girls appreciate my sacrifice- Enjoy!

This is rapidly becoming a favourite mainly because of the track,  a wonderful song about innocence lost, it is `Seed` by Smeer, it uses a quote from St. Paul`s letter to the Corinthians and is just beautiful, but also very sad. The video is made by julz314 and I love the images she has chosen, perfect for illustrating this track. This makes me feel all maternal. I just want to wrap our little Sammy up, give him a hug and tell him it`s all going to be ok!  The video is called `When Sam became a man’.

The last video is a wonderful tribute to Sam, using images  mainly from `The Man Who Knew Too Much`, it features the track, `Without You` by Breaking Benjamin and the lyrics focus on the theme of light running through the episode. The vidder is MulkEntertainment.
