Wednesday’s Watching Supernatural “The Bad Place” 13.09

Serious truths and Bad Places. Hilarious cliff-hanger. A Sumptuous production featuring marvellous VFX for us.
***Adam Williams, VFX Coordinator for Supernatural, added a few comments!

THE SCRIPT

However, Jack renewed our faith in him and in the underlying theme of Supernatural’s family bonds.

But that was not what made this script significant.
Robert Berens gave us a glimpse of something seldom seen in the media: Native American Culture.
Except for a few early episodes, Indigenous’ cultures and mythologies were rarely tapped for Supernatural inspiration.

With the demise of Derek Swan, the story turned to Kaia, a Dreamwalker,
a young woman of colour, perhaps of Native American ancestry.
Berens illuminated an important issue in our society, and a particularly hot issue in Canada.

“Get in the damn car! We’re going to South Dakota!”
(Dean ~doing a very bad thing. Scary! I think I peed a little.)

What more can you ask of a mid season finale? Oh, why yes…one could ask for excellence in the production category…

Editor’s Note: The SPNFamily has mixed and deep feelings about the Wayward storyline. As this review covers many topics, from the inclusion of indigenous people’s symbolism, culture and challenges to the amazing work of the Supernatural production team, we ask that comments on this review pertain to the questions posed or the new episodic information presented here. Opinions about the wayward plotline should be shared and discussed on the “Let’s Discuss” pages – both positive and negative – offered for that purpose.
