As promised, here are the detailed transcripts from the panels held on Sunday at Creations Salute to Supernatural in Parsippany, NJ. The panelists in order were Katherine Boecher (Lilith), Samantha Smith (Mary Winchester), Misha Collins (Castiel) and Rob Benedict (Chuck).
Katherine Boecher
– She started off talking about acting in the aura of Jared’s muscles. On filming that scene, “It was painstaking, long, brutal…” she joked. She then got amused by all the cameras going off while she was up there. Every first timer says that!
– The first question was that since Lilith was played by a lot of little girls, what was her thought process in transforming the persona? She joked she was seven when she they called her for the part and went to a hormone doctor to grow for the part. Seriously, she did watch what the little girl did and used her own imagination on it. She doesn’t want to be Lilith in real life. She doesn’t have a lot of friends and she likes people. Life would be boring, the baby diet and all.
– She was asked how Lilith’s entire motivation was to die. The person asking the question called it the “Happiest death scene ever.” She was thankful that Eric Kripke was directing that episode and he was there to coach her through that scene and tell her that was a good thing. “Yay, I’m dying!” She attributed a lot of that scene to Eric.
– How much fun was it being evil to Jensen and Jared? “What do you think?” was the answer. She found Jensen intimidating. Jared was really sweet. He was running lines with her, his dogs came in, he said, “Hi, you’re from Texas, we’re cool.” Her reaction to all that? “Yow, muscles.” Jensen didn’t come in until halfway through and she introduced herself and he said, “Hey.” She was intimidated, but then felt protected by Jared’s body.
– She was never pranked and joked that she would bring it up with the network. She then proposed that she fly up to Vancouver, sneak into the set, and paint Jared and Jensen’s dogs pink. Yes, that got a good laugh from everyone.
– If she could be any other character on Supernatural, who would she be and why?” Castiel. Because his job is so fun. He’s so conflicted all the time.
– If she could have dinner with anyone living, dead, or fictional, who would it be and why? Sting, because he’s sexy, Jesus, Mya Angelou. “And then we would get up and do Karaoke.”
– She was asked if any moment frustrated her on “Supernatural.” She talked about the scene where Lilith in “Lucifer Rising” took a bowl of blood from a minion and assured everything would be alright, they were going to save the world. She could not deliver the line the way Eric Kripke (the director of the episode) wanted it. They did that scene over and over and over again. Most directors give up after a while and take what’s best, but Eric will do it forever until they get it right. It was really frustrating but it was all good in the end. “We got through it and I still like the guy.”
– Someone asked her what she was a big fan of, and Dr. Who came up. This fan, knowing a lot about Dr. Who, wanted to know which doctor. She wasn’t that into the show, so she covered. “I am a fan girl for Jensen.”
– Where did she get her shoes? “These are the shoes that I booked the role of Lilith in. They’re my lucky demon shoes. Designer Shoe Warehouse, on sale, 30% off.”
– Which role was her favorite in terms of role and environment? Heroes. The director she worked with was absolutely amazing. The role was great and the people were awesome.
– How did she prepare for seducing Sam Winchester? “That was hard. I just want you to know how hard that was for me. I had to mentally prepare for that for days,” she joked. Then her real answer. “I was really scared. Because of his muscles. They have their own aura.” Did they take a lot of takes? “Not enough.”
– What is she is afraid of? (considers a while). Other than Jensen and Jared’s muscles? (I still admire her one track mind.) “Flying. I’m really afraid of flying and that’s a fact. You should be really glad I’m here right now.”
– Her ideal karaoke song? She hates karaoke. Somehow though, “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks was mentioned.
– “Is it hard to see with the white contacts?” They used Computer graphics for the white eyes. She saw that happen for the first time the same way everyone else did. It was the first time she ever saw her eyes roll back into her head.
– How did she land the role? She got the sides and she read it and she seemed like she had some serious emotional issues. She created some bad childhood memories and lived in those for 45 minutes. She went into the audition and said (in a sultry voice) “Hello, Sam.” That’s how she got the role.
– Any show she wants to be on? “The Riches.” She must be friends with Todd Stashwick (Count Dracula in Monster Movie), because she mentioned him a few times.
– I actually liked this story. Someone asked what was it like working with Jackie Chan? (The Spy Next Door) “He’s the only Chinese guy that she’s worked with but he’s the coolest.” She learned a lot through him about hard work and how it can pay off. He’s the hardest working person she knows. There was another person in that movie, Mangus Scheving, and the questioner asked if she knew he did the children’s show “Lazy Town.” She didn’t know and learned that he directs it all, writes it all, and he even owns the studio there in Iceland. He is a great acrobat and does his own stunts. She told the story about the Producer’s kids coming to the set and upon seeing Mangus they couldn’t speak. They were in awe. He ended up standing on his hands and talking to them for ten minutes.
– Which roles does she prefer? All the roles are fun. “It’s hard to be an actor. There’s a lot of people in LA competing for roles.” The bad, supernaturally roles are fun.
– Someone asked if she knew about Crowley? She hadn’t heard about the Crowley being revealed as Lilith’s lover in season five. She wouldn’t have those problems doing those scenes with him. “What are his muscles like?”
– When did she decide she wanted to act for a living?” She’s always been singing, and dancing, and performing since she was a kid. She did high school theatre. That was enough.
– This was a fun question. Someone asked about her earlier statements about how she was both scared of Jensen and was a fan girl. Where did the transition take place between intimidation and fan girl? She stammered on that a while and couldn’t answer in a funny way. Oh yeah, she want all fan girly. Finally, she revealed he wasn’t nice the first time she was there. When she came back to die, he was nice. (More fangirly noises).
– She got another question about Jared’s muscles. She brought up the scene where she had to seduce Sam, the whole stretching it out on the bed and patting it thing. She had to run her hand up his leg. “This is no joke. It’s all muscle. Like the whole thing…I was afraid his leg was going to eat my hand.”
Thus Katherine’s panel ended. Yes, she obviously figured out sharing experiences about Jared’s grand physique would win over an audience of fan girls. She was envied by all.
I swear, you chicks are so shallow. 😎
Hopefully we’ll get a Mary cameo (flashback, more likely) in season six.
So, is everyone hungry? How about burgers! I still think Misha, more than any human I can think of, needs his own TV show. Moral of the story, stick to porn, don’t do movies about Canadian serial killers.
Hi Alice
Thanks for the transcripts. Looks like you had a good time.
I hope they can bring Samantha(Mary) and Rob(Chuck) back for at least one episode each.
Thanks for the transcripts, Alice. Sounds like a good day of panels.
It is an amazing answer for me and help me so much. I’d like to be the practitioner of this blog and as a honest fan about it. Welcome to share and reprint.
